Seven ways to recharge is what we're talking about
Starting point is 00:00:31 today. And Cyndra, start us off with a quote. I love this quote. It's anonymous. And this person said, sometimes the best way to recharge our batteries is to unplug them. I like that. I just read something about that the other day about being able to unplug from the world until you're ready to plug back in. So tell us exactly what we're talking about today. Well, today we're talking about just the importance of recharging ourselves. And I think it's really important right now to recharge our own batteries because the increase actually of burnout is on the rise. One study I was just reading said that 79% of employees have experienced work-related stress in the month before the survey. And three out of five employees
Starting point is 00:01:11 say that there's negative impacts of work-related stress, like a lack of interest or lack of motivation or a lack of energy. So we need really like strategies to combat our burnout and recharge. So what are the various ways that we can combat our burnout and recharge. So what are the various ways that we can combat and combat that burnout and recharge ourselves? Well, I recently was reading this book, Lisa, that I really love, and I've been working to apply it in my own life. And it's a book by Dr. Sandra Dalton Smith, and it's called Sacred Rest. So Sacred Rest. And she talks about seven different types of rest. And she says that most people when they think about rest, they think about it as really one sided, they think about it
Starting point is 00:01:50 as just sort of like lounging around not doing anything. And then they retry that, right. And then we still feel rest deprived, and we think it doesn't work. So her seven types of rest are physical rest, emotional rest, mental rest, social rest, creative rest, sensory rest, and spiritual rest. And I think it's a great idea for us to all think about is how can we get these different types of rest in our own life? Well, let's talk about these. Give us the first example of rest. Okay. So the first type of rest would be like physical rest. And this could be either sort of passive rest where, you know, maybe this includes sleeping or taking a nap, but also really active rest where maybe you're doing some physical activity or yoga or stretching or massage. So that's an example of physical rest.
Starting point is 00:02:36 And how about mental rest? Mental rest, you know, I think that when we feel like our brain is mush would be a time where we really need some more mental rest, right? When maybe we're trying to read a book and we've been staring at it for 10 minutes and we can barely comprehend things, right? So think about it as mental rest, a time where you need to give yourself a mental break. Maybe when you start like turning into something more negative or you're judging everything you do and you could just take a few moments to get away from your screen. Maybe even try some breathing or some meditation to try to calm and just rest your mind. And so what's another type of rest that we would use? Well, I think the other type of rest that's really interesting is sensory rest.
Starting point is 00:03:22 And this is interesting, I think, right now because so many people are on computers and Zoom meetings and there's a lot of bright lights we're seeing every day on our phone. And so notice that when your senses feel really overwhelmed. And I'd encourage you to take a break from that. Maybe even if it's a two-minute or three-minute break, maybe you can close your eyes in the middle of the day. So you can really intentionally kind of unplug on those electronics. And what would be the fourth type that we could talk about today? Sure. So the fourth type is spiritual rest. And we won't have time to kind of talk about all of them,
Starting point is 00:03:55 but I think this one is really helpful too. And think about spirit as something that fuels your soul, like things that you can do to demonstrate your purpose, where you can get a deep sense of love and connection to other people around you. And this could include going to a ceremony or prayer or even getting involved in your community or spending time with people that you love. All right. Cinder, what's your final point for today?
Starting point is 00:04:23 So my final point is it's really easy to care for other people more than you care for yourself, right? So just today consider rest and which type of rest that you need more important, you know, that you need right now to implement so you can really be the best that you can be. Can you send off with a power phrase this week? Yes, it goes like this. I care for myself so I can thrive and be my best. I like it. I'm going to intentionally rest more in all those ways this week.
