Let's go.
We check in with Cinder Kampoff today and we're talking about choosing courage daily. Cinder,
start us off with a quote. I love this quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt. He said,
courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more
important than the fear. And what inspired this topic? Well, I've been speaking a lot around the U.S., Lisa. So last week I was in Texas and Minneapolis, even Washington. And so I
talk about when I'm speaking my 10 practices of high performance. And the 10th one is called
choosing courage over comfort. And this is the one that people have both been really talking to me a
lot about after my talks. And I think it's because it's
really easy to give in to fear, frustration, or doubt. And today we're going to talk about how
choosing courage is really important to keep growing in your business, to staying passionate
about what you're doing, and maybe even embracing change in the world that is constantly changing.
So what do you exactly mean by courage over comfort?
Well, you think about
our activities every day in two different zones. One is called our courage zone. The other one is
called our comfort zone. And when we stay in our comfort zone, we don't really grow.
This is where we play small, we dream small, we might even let fear, doubt, or insecurity get the
best of us. And we don't move forward. Many people kind of live in their comfort zone, but not high performers, not intentional leaders, not people who want to make their dreams happen.
And your courage zone instead is really a place of self-discovery, of growth,
sometimes failure, right? Because we're really going for it. And I think what Franklin D.
Roosevelt said is that courage is not the absence of fear or discomfort. You know,
it's the ability to move towards your goals absence of fear or discomfort. You know, it's the ability to move towards your goals
despite the fear or discomfort.
So what exactly is important that we understand about comfort?
Well, I think what's important for us to understand
is that our brains are really wired for comfort.
You know, it feels really safe and good.
It's comfortable, you know, staying comfortable.
But I think what's, you know, what if I told you that
the more uncomfortable you get every day, the more quickly you reach your vision, and the more
quickly you reach your goals. And I think actually, that's the only way we can reach the people we're
intended to serve in this world is if we get uncomfortable. And you can't choose courage and
comfort, you know, it's either to courage or comfort. And so I think we can train our minds
every day to act more courageously. And that's what I talk about in that 10th practice of Beyond
Grit. So why is it important right now to get uncomfortable and choose courage? I think if we
want to be the leader that we can become and reach our goals and build the business that we want to,
you know, I think it takes courage and we have to get uncomfortable. I think discomfort is really the price that we pay to step into a meaningful life
and experience success. You've already, you know, people who are listening have already done things
that are uncomfortable. I just think it's important to keep doing that because it's really a prerequisite
for us to reach our goals quicker. And getting uncomfortable every day is what's going to allow
us to be our best self. And so how would you encourage us to be uncomfortable every day?
I think the way to do that is to ask ourselves each day, what do I need to do today that is
uncomfortable? And so for example, in business, maybe an uncomfortable thing is cold calling
a client you want to work with or pivoting
your business in a new direction maybe in sport it might be staying passionate even when there's
no season right or you're in between seasons or trying a new activity or sport maybe in life it's
getting to know someone new personally or applying for a new job maybe engaging in your own self-care
and so i'm going to encourage people to take what I call in the book the seven-day challenge. And that means, you know, for seven days this week, ask yourself,
what can I do today that's uncomfortable? And then once you do it every day, this week, start over
next week. And Sandra, how do you summarize this particular topic for us? Lisa, I would say the
world's best choose courage instead of comfort. They choose
courage over comfort and they consider, you know, what they can do today to be uncomfortable. And
think about courage like a muscle. The more you use it, the better you get at it. And I think
being uncomfortable is really the fastest way to reach our vision and to reach our goals and to,
you know, reach the people we're intended to serve.
Cinder, what's today's power phrase as we head through the week?
