Let's go.
Time to check in with Sindra Kampoff today. And today's topic is ways to lead with positive
energy. Sindra, start us off with a quote. I like this quote by a Dalai Lama who said,
just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.
So what exactly are we talking about today with positive energy?
So we're talking about building positive energy with any group or team or even with you as a person
and how that can create really a psychological edge.
And I think positive energy makes other people better.
And think about that you lead yourself, but you also lead your team.
And so we're going to be talking today about leading with positive energy.
Why is this an important topic? Well, we actually know that our performance and our happiness is higher
when we feel more empowering emotions throughout our day.
And today we're going to talk about how positive emotions do more than just help us feel good.
They actually help us be more innovative and creative.
We're more productive.
We experience more success in general.
We're less likely to quit when we choose to feel
in a more empowering way. And can you give us any examples of the power of choosing positivity?
Well, one really classic study that's pretty powerful is a study by Marshall Lusata. And he
looked at high performing leadership teams, and then low performing leadership teams, and he was
looking at what the difference was between them. And he found that the high-performing leadership teams
had a five-to-one ratio. So that meant like five empowering comments to each other to one
negative. And the lowest-performing team had a ratio of like 0.363 to one, which they had almost
three negative comments, like this will never work to everyone
positive comment like that, you know, I agree with that, or that's a great idea. And so the bottom
line is that, you know, positive positivity with others does make a difference. And this ratio is
actually pretty similar to even thriving marriages, those that thrive tend to have more positive
comments than negative comments. So what can we do to have more positive comments than negative comments.
So what can we do to choose more positive emotions?
I think the first thing that we can do when we lead ourselves and we lead others
is to focus on what we have instead of what we're missing.
And our brain tends to have this negativity bias where it focuses on what's missing
rather than what we have.
So the key is to really direct our mind to our strengths, our team's great qualities.
Focus on the key is to kind of think about what you have in your life instead of what you're missing.
What's the second thing we can do to choose more positive energies?
I think the second thing that we can do as we lead, especially in the workplace,
is to think about how can we intentionally bring more positive comments.
So there was a study done by Gallup that said about 50% of employees leave their job because
they wanted to get away from their manager, which isn't good, right?
So thinking about, you know, how can you, as you leave others, make positivity part
of the workplace?
Maybe you set a small goal that every day you're going to, you know,
give five comments, five positive comments to others to try to improve that engagement and
culture. And what's the third way we're discussing today? I think the third way is to really prime
our own self with powerful emotions. And by priming, I just mean starting your day with a
powerful, powerful focus. And what you could do is just choose, you know, gratitude,
choose to focus on things right away in the morning that you're grateful for.
Talk to yourself powerfully.
And I think in that case, you'll prime yourself with more powerful emotions
to help you kind of thrive throughout your day.
Could you summarize today for us?
Sure. I would say that, you know, high performers, they choose positive energy
because it makes them and others better.
And they focus on what they have, not what's on missing, what they're missing.
And they choose to develop more of a positive culture within their group or team.
They prime themselves with really powerful emotions to start their day.
What's the power phrase this week, Sandra?
I generate energy and positivity, and I'm full of enthusiasm, energy, and purpose.
