Let's go.
We check in with Cyndra Kampoff again, and we're talking about going for the gold.
Cyndra, start us off with a quote today. I love this quote by Jack Canfield. He said,
once you make 100% commitment to something, there are no exceptions. It's a done deal,
non-negotiable, case closed. Case closed. What are we exactly talking about today then?
Well, I thought I'd start with a story about someone that you might not have heard of.
His name is Joseph Schooling.
And when he was 13 years old, he's from Singapore.
He met Michael Phelps, who's a U.S. swimmer,
just before he won his eighth gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.
And Joseph said, I want to be just like him.
So what's amazing is eight years later, Joseph was racing Michael Phelps in Michael Phelps'
second-to-last career race.
And, you know, the race Phelps won in three previous Olympics.
So Joseph actually led at the half, and Phelps tried to turn, tried to push to get him, but he couldn't.
And so he just finished behind Joseph by three fourths of a second. And, uh, so it's pretty
cool. It was Joseph's first ever gold medal, the first gold medal for Singapore and a new Olympic
record. And after the race, um, Joseph said, you know, it's crazy to think of what happens in eight
years. A lot of it is because of Michael and he's the reason I wanted to be a better swimmer. So I want to share the story because I think Joseph was 100%
committed. And I think to be world class and really great at anything, you know, we have to be
100% committed to what we want. And so how does this relate to you and me? Because we're not
Olympic swimmers. I think it relates to you and I because when we're 100% committed, we don't make any excuses and we don't let excuses get in the way.
And 100% commitment means that we stay focused. And when we're 100% committed, we're, you know,
it frees up our energy so we don't have to decide in the moment. Your decision is already made no
matter what. And you reduce the excuses. You don't play mind games, you're all in and don't just go halfway in.
Can you give us some examples about this?
Sure. I would say like, you know, 100% commitment could mean, you know, trying to get a gold medal
at a major Olympics, like schooling. But it could be like maybe buying the home of your dreams or
losing 20 pounds or getting the job you always wanted or exercising every day. And the difference between 99% committed, you know, when we're just 99% committed,
it kind of opens the door to kind of wavering on our decision.
You know, before we know it, 1% becomes 2% or 4% or 10%, and we're not really committed.
And so when we're 100% committed to something, we're going to do it regardless of how we feel.
And, like, for example, working out,
you work out even when you went to bed late or you have lots of other things to do.
And how do you recommend we do things like that?
Well, so I would say the first step is to think about what do you want to be 100% committed to
doing? And today's, you know, it's called Go for the Gold because I think of this 100% commitment
kind of like a gold medal goal, right? You have to be 100% committed to it. So just ask yourself
what's worthy of your 100% committed commitment and then write it down. And then second thing is
you could make a list of habits or disciplines necessary for you to really, you know, achieve
that 100% committed gold medal goal. What do you need to do? So it might mean, you know, achieve that 100% committed gold medal goal? What do you need to do?
So it might mean, you know, calling two new potential clients every day or meditating every
day or shooting 100 free throws, right? What is it that you need to do to be committed? And sometimes
people will write something like a start, stop and continue list when they're thinking about
what do they need to do to be, you know, committed. For example, they might say, well, I need to start. What do I need to start doing? What habits
do I need to start? What do I need to stop to avoid the 99% commitment? And then what do I
need to keep doing that I'm already doing? And what final message do you have for us today?
Yeah, my final message is at some point, even if you're 100% committed, you're going to wake up
and you're not going to necessarily want to take the steps to reach your, you know, your 100%
committed gold medal goal. And so that's where we have to fight to have that daily discipline.
And it's easy to get in our own way. And so when you do, I think the key is to focus less on how
you feel in a moment and more about how you're going to feel when you accomplish that goal.
Cinder, what's the power phrase you're going to use for us this week?
I like this one. It says, I'm 100% committed and all in, and the next level is calling me,
and I hear it today.
