Let's go. We're checking in with
Cinder Campoff. A little mental tip this morning, how to address your self-doubt. Cinder, start us
off with a quote. I like this quote by Brian Tracy. He said, fear and self-doubt have always
been the greatest enemies of human potential. And I completely agree. I do too. What inspired
this topic?
Well, this quote, I think is really powerful. You know, fear, self-doubt have always been the greatest enemies of human potential. And today we're going to talk about self-doubt. And the
interesting thing about it, Lisa, is that we all experience self-doubt. You know, I work with
professional athletes, business leaders, really successful entrepreneurs. And you might think at the highest
level, they don't experience self-doubt, but that's actually not true. And I found, especially
when you're really trying to push yourself courageously and get outside your comfort zone,
that this self-doubt can even just be so much louder. And so today we're going to talk about
just the key is to engage in daily mental conditioning. And there's going to be two ways we're going to talk about to completely, or not completely, but at least start addressing your self-doubt.
So why is it important for us to overcome this self-doubt?
Well, we all experience self-doubt.
And when we do, when we really give into it, we can feel stuck, not moving forward with our goals and not even really dreaming big.
And the important thing is that when we level up our
thoughts, that really does level up our life. And there's two things we're going to talk about today,
how the, you know, one of the single most important factors is really how we talk to ourselves. And
that's one way we can address our self-doubt. And then the second way is to really watch how
we interpret events in our lives, because we interpret each event and that happens around us.
Sometimes it's out even noticing it.
We really want to watch the words we use to describe events, both externally to other people, but internally to ourselves, because that can contribute to our self-doubt.
And what do you think is the first step to addressing it?
I think the first step is really not believing everything you think. You know, what I mean by that is your brain's real purpose is to keep you safe,
kind of watching out for things you should be fearful of and negativity.
So first, we just want to notice our automatic negative thoughts.
I call these ANTS based on a concept by Daniel Amen.
That's really the first step is just awareness, just noticing what you're thinking about and just listening to your mind non-judgmentally, meaning not judge your thoughts.
Everyone has automatic negative thoughts and deciding, you know, just noticing that is really the first step.
What's one way that we can address the self-doubt?
The one way is to really pay attention to what meaning you give to things. You know, all day long we're meaning-making machines,
and we can really choose the meaning we give to both a future event and a past event
that might repeat in our mind, sometimes unconsciously.
And so one thing that we can do is really choose a meaning that,
a conscious meaning that really empowers us.
And so we can see any difficult situation that's happening kind of for us, not to us. And when we see it happening for us, we're learning from it, we're seeing the
opportunity to grow, and we're seeing the gift. And so just being really intentional with the
meaning we trade around events is really one way to address your self-doubt.
So you talk about shaping our identity to overcome self-doubt. What do you mean by that?
Well, what I mean by that is this phrase, I am,
I call these power phrases. That's really, you know, an I am statement is your identity and who
you are. And so this really has the ability to shape your own reality, what you become,
because what you think about, especially yourself, you become. And so we can level up our I am
statements and we can become and believe more of that.
So, for example, you just ask yourself, you know, what do I need to believe about myself?
Maybe my leadership, maybe my ability to reach my vision.
And you can intentionally, you know, use these I am statements to create what you want to become. So, for example, a few of mine are, you know, I know my value and the value I give to this world.
And, you know, I am strong.
I'm smart.
I'm powerful.
I'm happy.
I'm grateful.
Even statements like this could help you shape your identity and really address your self-doubt.
Asindra, is there a final point today?
I would say, you know, high performers don't hope their thinking works for them.
They really make their thinking work for them.
And they're intentional.
They're purposeful with their daily self-talk.
They condition their minds, you know, each and every day.
And two ways we talked about today is watching the meaning you create around events in your life
and using this I am statement to shape your own identity.
And what is our power phrase today?
I level up my thoughts to level up my life. All
right, let's all level up our thoughts today. Cinder, if we want to follow along with your work
or maybe read more about this in one of your books, where do we go? You bet. You can find
both of my books at beyondgrit.com. And I talk about this idea of mastering your thoughts in
both of them. Way to go for finishing another episode
of the High Performance Mindset.
I'm giving you a virtual fist pump.
Holy cow, did that go by way too fast for anyone else?
