It's time to check in with my friend, Cinder Campoff, today. And today we're talking all about grit. It's a thing she knows a thing or two about because she's written a couple books on them. Cinder, start us off with a quote. I like this quote by Angela Duckworth, and she's done a lot of research on grit. And she said, grit is about doing the hard work
Starting point is 00:00:43 day in and day out without immediate reward. And so what exactly are we talking about when we talk about grit? Well, grit is not grind. And what I mean by that is a lot of times people think it's me that's got to grind it out. But what grit is, is about having sustained excellence, energy, passion over time. And it's been described as the number one predictor of our success, because when we stay excited and passionate about our work, we are able to keep going to fight obstacles and negativity and setbacks. And our perseverance really allows us to be resilient and safe to the diversity. So when we're gritty, it means that we have an unwavering commitment
Starting point is 00:01:21 to continually grow and improve, and we can stick with ourselves and our vision for the future. And we all want to develop our grit, but how do we even go about doing that? Well, great question. It is something that we can develop, which is great. And today we're going to talk about five ways to develop your grit. And the first one I would say is, you know, really getting clear on what is it that you really want. So if grit is staying committed to your goals long term, I'm just going to encourage people to think about what is it that they really want, you know, short term and long term. A second way we can develop grit is by working towards those long term goals. You know, the ones that really take years to achieve. And that's one of the most rewarding things we can do is stick with things in the long term. So I'm going to encourage people to think about, you know, what are some of the big goals they're going after?
Starting point is 00:02:09 You know, the ones that really take years and years of hard work and dedication and sacrifice to build. All right. So that's one and two. What's like three and four? Well, the third way we can develop grit is really understanding our purpose. And I'm going to describe it as owning it every day. And owning your purpose means utilizing it to keep you excited and fueled and keep you going. And so I'm just gonna encourage people to think about, why do they do what they do?
Starting point is 00:02:34 And what's the purpose that drives these goals? And how do you serve others? So that's the third way. And the fourth way we can develop grit is by fueling empowering emotions and really, you know, utilizing those and focusing on more of the empowering emotions, like emotions like hope and optimism and confidence and especially gratitude. You know, those emotions keep us going and keep us, you know, fueled and powered towards our long-term goals. So I'm just going to encourage
Starting point is 00:03:01 people to think about, you know, how do they manage their focus and how do they, you know, choose some of those empowering emotions, even when things are hard. Often things we just don't think about. What's the last way we can develop grit that we're going to talk about today? Well, mid-floating is my favorite because it's probably not what you'd expect, but grit is powered also by compassion for yourself and forgiveness of yourself. And bouncing back quickly, being kind and compassionate to yourself is really neat when failure happens. And when you cultivate your grit every day, you know exactly where you're going, but you can also move on quickly. And so being kind and compassionate with yourself is going to actually help you get there quicker.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Cinder, do you have a final point for us today? Yeah, I would say, you know, grit is really an essential part and an essential ingredient to your success. And it's important to be, you know, continue to be open to change and growth. And it means, you know, staying passionate about what you do. It really is a game changer in your life and your business. There's also research to show that grit predicts work performance and performance is cool. So today just you know get some more clarity on what is that you really want and the
Starting point is 00:04:11 desire must come first before the house follows. And how about a summary for today? I would say you know grit high performers are really gritty they know what they really really want and they get clear on what they want and so they choose to feel good every day, which really helps us fuel our grit, but also being kind and compassionate and having grace with ourselves along the way is really good. You leave us with a power phrase every time, kind of like a mantra to carry forward. What is the power phrase for grit this week?
