Let's go.
We're checking in with Cinder Kampoff today and we talk a little bit about changing our
perception. How to change your perception. Cinder, start us off with one of your quotes.
This is my favorite quote by Wayne Dyer. He said, if you change the way you look at things,
the things you look at change. Okay, so you've got an example to start with.
Um, Lisa, I just finished a Netflix documentary about David Beckham. Did you see it? I've not seen it
yet, no. Oh, it's so great. And you know, he's an English soccer star. It was just fascinating.
It provides really this inside look at the mindset of an elite athlete. And a couple of things stood
out to me. His father was actually really hard on him which pushed him to be more
confident and just deal with criticism throughout his career at the beginning of his career um
england hated him because he got a red card in the world cup yet to steal him and you know what i was
most impressed with it's like his ability to not back down from his beliefs in himself to fight
all the negativity and controversy and he really embraces the uniqueness. Didn't try to be like anyone else. And I think it's a great example of just intentionally choosing your perception
interpretation. I'd highly recommend people watching it. All right. So the David Beckham
documentary on Netflix. Now, how to change your perception. What exactly are we talking about
today when we talk about changing our perception? Well, we're talking about intentionally choosing
to see any circumstance or challenge
through a different lens.
You know, the world is what we make of it,
so we can change our lens at any time.
And the statistic tool we're gonna talk about
in psychology is called reframing.
And when we reframe, we change our viewpoint.
You know, we intentionally choose our lens
or our perception, even if it's a difficult situation.
So for example, let's say you have some kind of
disappointment at work or in your life right now. So you can choose a mindset to see the situation
that somebody can grow from and that you can learn from. And why is it so important that we learn how
to reframe things? Well, ultimately, it keeps us going, Lisa. You know, it also helps us overcome
obstacles that get in our way. And it can be really big things like a job loss or
just a poor performance. Or maybe there's some kind of loss to the client for income or even
in sport, right? A missed shot or a seizing any injury. And when we reframe, we don't ignore the
difficulty, but we just intentionally choose to see the situation differently than maybe it appears
on the surface. Well, can you give us some examples of when we can use reframing in our everyday lives?
Absolutely.
So I would say almost any sort of negative situation
or thought can be reframed as something
that you can bring a positive outlook
instead of a negative one.
So let's say you receive difficult feedback
from a coach or a bot,
or you lose a big client or sale,
or let's say the market just
negatively impacts your bottom line in your business well you are facing some kind of
difficulty in your relationship where you have a bad race or bad game or let's just say you're in
a cranky mood so what reframing does is really helps you see any pieces of strengths and any
setback is a comeback any difficulty as opportunity. So how do we go about actually doing the actual reframing of things?
Yeah, great question. So I would say, you know, the key is to take a step back and consider the
frame or your lens. You know, how can you intentionally change your interpretation or
the story or the perception? You know, you're telling yourself about the situation. And again,
it doesn't mean you ignore the difficulty
or obstacle, but you just choose a different perspective.
So, you know, by asking yourself,
is there another way of viewing this?
Or, you know, this is a perception or story
I really want to tell.
And the key to this is shift your perspective
and view any difficulty as an opportunity
that you think you're growing and learning from.
Well, Cinder, can you summarize today for us?
Sure. I think high performers and youth reframing every day, you know, they don't ignore the difficulty, but instead see a different perspective and how the obstacle can help you. And this just
helps you stay more positive and motivated to keep going. And you can intentionally choose
the perception or interpretation that you tell yourself. All right. We've got a power phrase that you give out. What is that power phrase this week?
Short and sweet here. I see a setback as a comeback.
