And today we're talking about focusing on the process. Cyndra, start us off with a quote. I like this quote by Joe Madden. He said, if you focus on the process and not the outcome, you'll have better results. So what exactly are we talking about today with focusing on the process? Well, you know, Lisa, I believe that we should each have really big dreams to really help us step into our potential.
Starting point is 00:00:49 And that when we're kind of building these big dreams and pushing forward towards our vision, it's really easy to spend a lot of time kind of planning for the future. And what I found is like this future based thinking can motivate us and excite us. But it also can lead to feelings like really a lot of heaviness and pressure and anxiety and fear. For example, I had a client that spent so much time thinking about his big vision and his gold vision that it created so much anxiety that he couldn't make progress. And so his vision just felt so far away that he could never reach it. And so today we're talking about how do we balance that big vision, but stay focused on the process. Well, you work with some of the best in best of sports and the business world. What do you see them doing? Well, I found that, you know, these world's best, like you describe it, are able to really focus on their vision and their future, but also stay
Starting point is 00:01:39 focused on the process and being strategic about that. And they're able to kind of tap into their motivation and their vision for their future, right, but for motivation and direction, but they're able to stay focused on the process, like the daily tasks to get there while they're building their, you know, their own career or their own, you know, sport career. Can you give us a little more about the process part of things? Yeah, so I would say what the process really means is, you know, the small steps that you need to reach your vision for your life or your business or your sport. And the process is what you do day in and day out to be successful. And so to get clear on your process, what you have to do is break down your goal and focus then on what to get there, right? And this is what requires, you know, daily discipline, focusing on the fundamentals, and it's easy to kind of lose sight of that. Do you have an example for us? Sure. So here's an example. Let's say you're a salesperson and you have a big goal at the end of the year. Let's say you get a cool trip to Hawaii, you know, funded by corporate, right? If you add, let's say, 75 clients this year. And so the 75 clients and the trip is the outcome because you can't fully control that outcome.
Starting point is 00:02:49 That's a future-based goal. But the daily tasks are what you need to implement to reach that goal. That's what today we're calling it the process or what we would refer to as the process. And what's important, Lisa, is that you pay attention to what gives you energy and what you should focus on. So to focus and get motivation, you want to focus on winning that trip to Hawaii. But if you focus too much on it, that's what creates more anxiety and you might get frustrated because it feels so far away. So what's important is to focus on the right thing at the right time to give you that motivation and discipline you need. So give us some examples about how we can apply this to our lives.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Okay, sure. So the habit of focusing on the process can be applied to any goal. So let's say, for example, you want to go after a big sports goal, or you want to increase your revenue, or you want to improve employee retention, or, you know, launch a new product, let's say, in your business. So to consider the process, what you want to do is first write down your goal for the year. And I'm encouraging you to write it down, right? What is it that you really want? And then choose one to three goals to write down. And then next, what you want to do is outline the steps that are in your control to get there and that's important because typically the outcome is out of your control so you know what process do you need to follow to
Starting point is 00:04:09 achieve you know your results and what are the daily tasks you need to get there and then what we want to do is focus on you know what's the what's going to give you most energy um in that process and why is this important for us to do? Because really focusing on that big vision is going to give you energy and motivation. But day to day, you want to assess and this allows you to stay in the present. You know, Lisa, I was just reading this one study that showed only we spend only 47% of our time in the present moment. Okay. So most of the time, we're so focused on the future or the past. And that's what creates, you what creates anxiety for us. So it's important to stay focused on the daily process in the present moment because this ultimately reduces pressure and stress and anxiety. And so when you stay focused on the process, you're more likely to persist.
Starting point is 00:04:57 You'll stay passionate about your work and also have a higher sense of satisfaction and motivation. And you'll think less about failure and you will be more likely to try new things. So you can be courageous to reach that vision. What's the power phrase this week for us to remember? This is a good one. It is this, I take my goals one step at a time focused on the process. All right. We'll be present for that this week.
