It's time to check in with Cinder Kampoff today. And today we are talking about our limiting
beliefs, those pesky limiting beliefs. How do we address them? Cinder, start us off with a quote.
I like this quote by Lewis Hayes. He said,
if you accept a limiting belief, then it will become a truth for you.
How do we want to start off today?
Well, I think we should start off just acknowledging that everyone experienced limiting beliefs, right?
And if we don't examine it, that's what can be detrimental to our own potential and our own success.
And Lisa, you know, underlying everyone's limiting beliefs is this feeling that we're not enough in some way, right?
So not smart enough, not successful enough, not good looking enough, not tall enough. That's mine. But the list goes on
and on, right? And I think what's helpful is just to acknowledge that you are enough just the way
that you are, right? Smart enough, talented enough, good enough. And what do we do? What should we be
doing when we have limiting beliefs? Well, I think the thing is, is really we need to address our limiting beliefs because that's what holds us back.
And when we do this, we can let go of our own baggage, right, and free ourselves to believe things that will really serve us.
And we have power to address the limiting beliefs that are holding us back.
So that's good news. And today what we're going to do is we're going to talk about three limiting beliefs that are common limiting beliefs and really how to address them.
Okay. Can you give us some more clear examples of limiting beliefs?
Sure. So I would say here are the three that I see pop up a lot for my clients and the people
that I work with. So number one, it's just, I'm not good enough, right? And when we believe that
this leads to us feeling inadequate or unworthy, It can impact our own self-esteem, and we experience a lot more self-doubt. And what
happens is we don't pursue, you know, and take on new challenges. The second one is I can't do that,
and this belief involves really underestimating our ability and our potential. And so, you know,
we put limitations on ourselves, and we miss opportunities. And the
last one that I see pop up a lot for people is just like, I'm defined by my past. And this belief
involves, you know, letting go of your past mistakes or failures, right? Not letting them
kind of define your identity. And so when we're consistently thinking about our past, it just
leads to some shame, regret, resentment. So, Cendra, what's the difference
between a belief and having a thought? Yeah, that's a great question because, you know,
there is a difference. And I think one of the things that's really helpful is just to recognize,
you know, none of your thoughts actually have power unless you give them power.
And a belief is a thought that you believe, that you make real, that you accept as true.
A belief is a thought that we repeat over time.
And so this idea is really powerful just to recognize that we have the power to not believe everything that you think.
And beliefs are created over a long period of time sometimes, right? Because it just becomes like a consistent way of thinking.
But beliefs that we hold for a shorter period of time are easier to break. We know where beliefs formed over many, many years just take a little
bit more work. So what's the first step that we should take when we want to address our limiting
beliefs? I think the first question is just to ask yourself, you know, what are my limiting beliefs
about myself or what I can do and the world. And the first step is to really just acknowledge your
limiting belief without judgment. You know, just realizing that, hey, everyone has limiting beliefs
that can help you realize you're not alone. And so when you notice these limiting beliefs pop
into your head, one of the most important things is to do is just to write it down,
because then you can really examine it. And many times when we write it down,
we realize they're not really true at all. And so what should we do next?
So next, once you become more aware of these limiting beliefs, just without judgment,
just take a moment to really explore it. You know, how true really is that belief?
And where did that belief come from? And, you know, what evidence do I actually have to support it?
And I think the power is that you can choose a different thought.
And just asking yourself, really, the truth is key.
So, Lisa, here's an example for me.
One of my limiting beliefs that can pop into my head is, like, I can't do that.
And sometimes it comes up for me when I'm thinking about building my business.
And then, you know, I take a step back
and I say, well, is that actually true? What evidence do I have to support that? It's not true.
And I've done difficult things in the past that I didn't know how to do before. And, you know,
my new belief is that I can take it one step at a time and I can find others who've done it before
me and ask for help and I'll figure it out. Right. And that's actually the truth. And I can find others who've done it before me and ask for help and I'll figure it
out. Right. And that's actually the truth. And so when I believe I can't do that, that just holds
me back and I don't take risks. So I really need to take a step back and examine that just like we
all need to. That's good advice. What's the power phrase that you're sending us off with this week?
Today, it is I choose powerful beliefs about my future.
