Let's go.
We check in with Cendra Kampoff today and we're talking about how to bounce back. Cendra,
start us off with a quote. This is a quote by George S. Pately, the U.S. military general. He
said, success is how high you bounce when you hit rock bottom. So what inspired this topic today for
us? What inspired this topic is that, you know, everyone experiences difficulties and no matter what you're experiencing right now, just know that you can bounce back. And so today,
we're going to be talking about how to bounce back and how to be resilient and to keep going.
And what do you mean by resilient? Well, being resilient is actually our ability to bounce back.
Think about it as your bounce back factor. It's really your capacity to recover quickly
from difficulties. It's your
ability to adapt. And resilience is a quality that really allows some people to get knocked
down by life and other people to come back stronger. And so we need to experience adversity
to be resilient. You can't actually be resilient without some type of adversity.
Why is this important for us to apply right now?
I think it's really important because resilience is also something that we can learn.
You know, it's not something that we are born with.
And we all have resilience in our history, meaning we've done something difficult and we've done difficult things in the past and we've got through them and maybe even thrived because of them.
It sounds a little bit like a muscle to me, like use it and then build it up.
So how can we be resilient right now?
I think you're right, Lisa. It is like a muscle.
The more you use it, the better you get at it, right? And I think the best part about all
of this is that we can train our resilience day to day. And it's really about how we respond to
stress. And think about stress as just kind of hinting demands. You can determine if stress is
bad stress. That would be determined as like distress. And stress can actually be good stress too. That's called e-stress. But not all stress is bad. And one of the key parts about being resilient and seeing
stress as a good stress is to see the opportunities. And you're the queen of giving us tools to use.
What kind of tools do you have that we can use to be resilient? Okay, this is my tool for today. I
call it this three-op tool. And I wrote about it in my book, Beyond Grit.
And when faced with a difficulty, the key is to ask yourself, what's the opportunity?
And you want to ask it three times.
And the cool thing is this, you know, gets out kind of feeling sorry for yourself.
And I have found that the third answer is usually the one that sticks and the one that
you want to really adopt.
So for example, here's an example, Lisa, how I
just used this this week. So my family and I got a new puppy, really cute new puppy. But it spent a
tough few weeks, because we've had to get up at 430. And I know you get up at 430 in the morning
every morning, but I I'm, I'm like a night owl, right? And so he's going to the bathroom everywhere
in our house. And we came together as a family and we asked ourselves, what's the opportunity? And we found it was an
opportunity for us to come together as a family. It was an opportunity for us to kind of teach our
boys how to take responsibility and help out. And then the third opportunity we came and we talked
about was that it's a really opportunity to find joy in this puppy, even at 430 in the morning.
Absolutely.
That's the one we want to stick with.
Right. And the puppy's cute, right?
So what's another strategy that we could use for us to build our resilience?
I think when we're faced with challenges, just taking the belief that you love challenges and be aware of how you're framing in an event.
You know, how you're seeing the event is what I mean.
And if you're seeing the, you know,
whatever difficulty you're experiencing right now,
just if you're seeing it as an opportunity,
that's going to be key.
So just remember, you can do hard things.
You can like challenges or accept challenges.
And just, I want to encourage you to think about,
you know, what's something hard in your life right now?
And how can you be resilient and bounce back?
Because resilience is part of your history. It's really in your hard drive and you've been resilient before.
How do you summarize today for us?
I would summarize it by just saying that we're meant to adopt and adjust and we're meant to be
resilient and bounce back. And our life experiences have really led you to this. And you can get
through anything that you're experiencing right now. And we want to see stress as you stress and something that can help us grow and embrace challenges.
And we can frame events looking for the opportunity which helps us be resilient.
All right. So give us this week's Power Phrase.
All right. Here it is. I can bounce back. I can see the opportunity in every difficulty.
