Let's go.
Time to check in with Cinder Kampoff today, and we talk about dreaming about your future. Why
you need to dream about your future. Cinder, start us off with a quote.
I love this quote by Chris Reeve, who is an actor, and he said,
so many of our dreams at first seem impossible, but then they seem improbable,
and then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.
What inspired the quote today? What inspired the message?
Yeah, well, you know, one of my favorite quotes besides this one by Christopher Reeve
is this quote by Ellen Johnson Thurliff. And she said,
if your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough.
And, you know, why I think this is really important, Lisa,
is because when we reach our
potential, we have to do things that are a little bit scary. And when you think about just reaching
your potential in general, you know, when you people who do that work to do that know that
fear means that they're doing something important and meaningful. So you can just be a little bit
scared because that means that you're really stepping into your potential and you're going
to experience more success. All right. So why should our dreams be scary specifically? Okay, good question. Well, you know, our goals and our
dreams are inside us to help us really step into all that we can become. And, you know, they're
less like less about checking off a box about, you know, what we did, but more about who we can
become pushing towards our big dreams and our vision. And when we dream just a little, you know,
big outside our comfort zone,
we're more likely to reach our potential because ultimately we're growing every day and expanding ourselves.
And in my book, Beyond Grit, we talk about this concept called dream for a living.
And it just means that we continually push ourselves to dream big and, you know, try to do that every day.
And so what would you tell us to do with our goals and our dreams?
I would say first ask yourself, you know, what are your scary dreams? And could you kind of level up
the scariness of your dreams just one notch? You know, and I think just considering, you know,
what your scary dreams are, we want to write them down so we have a record of them. And, you know,
when you write them down, your brain just works at a subconscious level to make it happen.
And then just check in with them regularly.
And when you look at them, just take a deep breath because they might feel a little scary.
You know, just remind yourself that you're going into that.
And, Cinder, what else can we do?
What else we can do is you could pick a date, let's say 5, 10, or 20 years from now.
And you could just write, you know, write that date down and just think about, you know, what does your future look like on that date? Think about, you know, who you're with?
What are you doing? What have you accomplished? How are your relationships? And how do you feel?
And when people write a vision like that, they can think of their career or their sport or their finances or their health or their relationships, or, you know, maybe even how you contribute to
your community. But the key is to not hold back and that could help you just dream a little bigger. Well, speaking of dreaming
bigger, do most people dream big or not big enough? I say most people don't dream big enough.
You know, most people dream too small and they let, you know, their limiting beliefs get in the
way. And I think as we age, we kind of lose the ability to dream. You know, we often hear that,
you know, our dreams are too big and we
can't accomplish them. And so just remember when you're pushing yourself to dream one more notch,
that's when you grow. And you want to keep, you know, dreaming outside your comfort zone,
because that's ultimately how you're at your best.
Cinder, how would you summarize today for us?
Your goals and dreams can be a little scary, meaning a little outside your comfort zone,
because when you dream big, that's when you grow into who you can become. So most people dream too small or lose the ability
to dream. It's because of our own limiting beliefs. They're the voice inside our head,
right? But goals today are less about checking off the box, but more who you can become. And
we want to, Lisa, make dreaming for a living a daily mindset practice.
All right, daily mindset practice. So what is this week's power phrase to keep it in the top of our mind? I dream big to help me reach my potential and my
best. And I have everything inside me to make my dreams happen. All right, Cinder, if people want
