Let's go.
Time to check in with Cinder Kampoff this morning. We talk about how to talk to ourselves and how to
talk to ourselves more powerfully. Cinder, start us off with a quote. I like this quote by Harvey
McKay, author and speaker, and he said, positive thinking is more than just a tagline. It changes
the way we behave. So what inspired your topic for today?
Well, today we're talking about how to talk to ourselves even more powerfully. And I think it's so easy, Lisa, to listen to our own negativity in our own mind, because we actually have a
negativity bias, which means negative events get stored more quickly into our memory and they
linger longer. So we need to make a choice every day to talk to ourselves powerfully and really
to train our mind each day.
And that's what we're going to be talking about today.
All right. So first, let's talk about the power of our thoughts.
What do you have to say about that?
Well, there's so much research to show, you know, over many decades that the world's best athletes and business people really think differently.
And the key is if we don't train our mind, we're just letting our thoughts happen by chance.
And chance thinking doesn't really lead to success.
So we wanted to think like the world's best and be really intentional and purposeful with our self-talk,
because, you know, our own thinking is one of the most important factors of our success.
And we're really not typically taught to learn how to think, and so that's what we're going to be talking about today. So we're talking about using the three P's today. And the first P stands for powerful.
What do you mean by that?
Well, powerful thoughts lead to powerful body language and positive action and really enthusiasm
for your day and your team and your life. And so we want to choose more powerful thoughts over
weak thoughts that kind of lead us to feeling unworthy or defeated or tired. And these,
you know, weak thoughts kind of tend to grow and multiply. So an example of a powerful thought
are things like, you know, I can do anything I put my mind to, or I'm ready and excited for my day
or my practice or this meeting, whatever that might be today.
Okay, so the second P stands for possibility oriented. What about the power of that? Can you
share with us a little bit? Absolutely. So we want to choose really a dream in the future and that we
want to happen. So we want to think about all the possibilities for us and visualize what we think
could happen in the future. We want to keep our mind just to, you know, pushing ourselves past
the status quo and thinking big and not settling for average. So we want to really strive for what's
possible for us and greatness. So some examples of possibility-oriented thoughts might be,
you know, my future is going to be outstanding or the possibilities in my life and, you know,
what I can do are really endless. All right. So, Cinder, the last P stands for positive.
And what does that mean to you? That means that the world's best are really
purposeful and intentional and positive about their thinking. So for example, you know, if
someone said to you, stop thinking about a pink striped zebra, you know, you can't really stop
thinking about a pink striped zebra. Do we want to focus on what we want to happen instead of what
we want to avoid? And I think of an example of a positive thought would be a statement that starts with an I
will statement.
Like, I will crush everything I have today, meaning like I will, you know, be really focused
on everything in my schedule today, or I will play my best or be at my best today.
And those are some examples of more positive oriented thoughts.
And why is that so important for us?
Well, the key is to experiencing these types of thoughts.
We'll call them P3 thoughts today.
And we can even plan our thinking.
The research shows that when we have kind of pre-planned specific thoughts to address our negative thinking,
we do a better job at just eliminating the negativity and just trying not to think negatively.
So I'm going to encourage everyone to write down three statements that they can use today to believe about themselves.
And that's going to really help you be at your best. Three positive things about yourself today.
Okay, so how would you summarize today for us? Well, Lisa, I'd say we want to have pre-planned
specific thoughts that we write down to address our negative thinking. And we can do this with
the three P's that we talked about today, you know, powerful thoughts, possibility-oriented
thoughts, and positive thoughts to really give ourselves the best chance of being our best today.
And this over time leads to you reaching your potential and reaching to, you know, success,
whatever that might look like to you. It sounds like, you know, you think it and then you say it
and then you become it. Absolutely. I like that. All right. Sandra, if people want to follow along
