Starting point is 00:00:25 go. It's time to check in with Cinder Campoff and today we talk about how to harness the power of positivity. Now, Cinder, you always start us off with a good quote. What's the quote for today? I like this quote by Abraham Hicks. Abraham said, when you focus on the good, the good gets better. Okay. So what exactly are we talking about today when we talk about harnessing the power of positivity?
Starting point is 00:00:47 Well, today we're talking about, you know, this idea by cultivating positive energy. Any team or organization or individual can create a significant psychological advantage. And this could be, you know, a business team, a sports team, or even a family because ultimately positive energy enhances performance, it fosters resilience, and it strengthens relationships. All right. So why is this so important for us to remember today? Well, it's actually really important. Research from the Harvard Business Review shows that people, employees who create positive emotions are more engaged, they're more productive,
Starting point is 00:01:21 they're more likely to innovate. Even studies by a woman named Barbara Fredrickson show that positive emotion expands our thinking and our problem solving and creates upward spirals for success. So I think why it's so important, Lisa, is that positive emotions just don't make us feel good, but they improve our thinking, our creativity, and just help us to manage challenges even more effectively. And Cinder, can you give us an example of the power of choosing to be positive or choosing positivity? Absolutely. So here's some real research to show the power of positivity. There's a psychologist named Lusato, that's his last name, and he found that high performing
Starting point is 00:02:00 teens had a positivity ratio of six to one. So what this means is like six positive interactions to everyone negative. Even research by John Gottman shows kind of relationships have a similar trend. Couples who had a five to one ratio, so again kind of five positive to one and negative, showed like more sustained happiness and success in their relationships. And even in business, Gala did a study where they showed that employees who received frequent recognition and positive reinforcement were more engaged and less likely to leave. So that's all the reasons we want to really choose more of a positive perspective.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Okay. So what can we actually do to choose more positive emotions? I think number one thing that we can do is to focus on our strengths and what's going well instead of what's going wrong. And I think the power of this is, you know, our brain has what's called a negativity bias, which means that we're naturally more focused on our deficiencies, kind of the threats in our environment. And so research from positive psychology shows that just by shifting to focus more on our strengths and our successes, this rewires our brain for more like optimism and resilience. So I think why this is important is just to
Starting point is 00:03:17 train yourself and your team to practice gratitude and to focus on those strengths can really help you reframe challenges into opportunities and to shift our mind to growth. I love this, give me another one. Another way that we can choose more positive energy is really about building a culture of positivity, kind of think about it from the top down. So the study I just mentioned by Gallup showed
Starting point is 00:03:39 that 50% of employees leave jobs because of poor leadership rather than kind of salary. And so leaders who really prioritize positive reinforcement, they create environments where employees feel valued and motivated, you know, that's the key for keeping people around. And so, you know, people who in organizations who create more of a positive energy and culture, they have higher retention rates, you know, more productivity and stronger collaboration. So just I think the key Lisa is if you're in a leadership role, just have these simple habits like daily praise and constructive feedback and recognition can
Starting point is 00:04:16 really make a big difference. Yeah, it's got to be I think, genuine too. It can't be just something that you really go through. Like, here's a positive, you know, it has to feel genuine to people, right? Yeah, or they're not going to really listen or it's not going to make the impact. So yeah, you want to be, you want to be genuine and you want to be real and not, you know, just make it up, but be honest. Right. And what's the third way that we can discuss today? I think the third way is to prime yourself for positivity. And kind of what I mean by
Starting point is 00:04:43 that is just starting your day with intentional positivity can shape your mindset for the entire day. And so research on priming shows that just by beginning with empowering habits like visualization or gratitude, or powerful phrases in the morning can enhance your focus and your resilience. I have a great morning routine that I like to use called the grit priming exercise. And people can find this on a website called beyondgrit.com slash warning. And this is where I guide you through kind of four steps. First step of
Starting point is 00:05:16 gratitude, then remembering your purpose and your why, setting some intentions and then a powerful self talk. And this can really can really you know fuel your day with purpose. Okay, Cinder what's our power phrase for this week? I like this one it goes like this I'm a source of positive energy and I inspire uplift and bring out the best and others around me. My mindset fuels my success and the possibilities. Cinder if people want to find out more about this maybe do some reading on it or listen to a podcast or even check out your possibilities.
