Starting point is 00:00:01 Hi friends. My name is Dr. Cindera Campoff, a national leader in the field of sport and performance psychology. Get ready for a jammed, packed episode, focus on practical tips to help you get after your goals and step out of your comfort zone. Let's go. It's time to check in with Cinder Campoff, and today we talk about stopping the overwhelmed. Cindra, start us off with a quote. I love this quote by Jim Rohn. He said either you run the day or the day runs you.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Oh, isn't that the truth? What exactly are we talking about? Well, Lisa, today we're talking about something that every high performer struggles with at some point, and that is prioritizing and balancing. And when we're unclear on what truly matters to us, we end up reacting instead of leading our day. And so today we're going to share with you just the mental skills and a new mindset and some practical tools to help you identify what matters most. to stay focused and to create more balance and energy in your life and work.
Starting point is 00:01:05 So why is prioritization so hard for most of us? I think that's a great question. I would say that, you know, this overwhelmed and busyness tends to be the new norm. And I think it's easy for people to confuse busy with productive. I think also, Lisa, we avoid prioritizing because that would mean we have to say no to something and that's really hard. You know, even just distractions as an urgency culture. and just pressure to react-insitive plan. And so when everything feels important to us,
Starting point is 00:01:37 what can happen is we feel behind, and that's when our confidence is. And so why do we need to be prioritizing things intentionally? I think because it protects your energy and focus to what truly matters most to you, and it builds confidence in yourself because you're falling through and you're completing the tasks that you've committed.
Starting point is 00:01:55 And in general, it can just create more work-life harmony and sustainability because we've reduced overwhelmed and anxiety. Sandra, you always have some good tools for us to use. What's the first tool that you'd share with us about how we can be more intentional with our time? Yes. Okay. The first tool that we're going to talk about today is the one thing asked question.
Starting point is 00:02:15 And this is asking yourself the question today. What's the one thing that, if I did today, would make the biggest impact. And what that does least, it cuts through the noise and it clarifies what absolutely matters to us to you. it can reduce decision fatigue. And so it's also tied to our confidence because finishing what we say don't trust.
Starting point is 00:02:35 So what's the one thing that if you did today would make the biggest impact? All right. What's a second tool that we can use? A second tool is a not-to-do list. And I want you to think about things that you do that really you shouldn't be doing and are time-wasters or our distractions.
Starting point is 00:02:52 For example, maybe even checking your email first thing in the morning is a distraction. or you may be saying yes to when you should really be saying no is on your not-to-do list or multitasking because it's actually impossible to multitask. So what's on your not-to-do list because high performers protect their time as much as they protect their goals? All right. So what's the mindset that we need to have for more balance in our lives?
Starting point is 00:03:16 I think the mindset you need, kind of the old mindset would be, you know, I must do it all, whereas the new high-performance mindset would be, I do what matters the most. The old mindset would be busy is productive, whereas the new high performance mindset would be focused equal productive. Or the old mindset would be like, I need more time instead of the new high performance that would be I need more clarity. And then I think the last one is the old mindset would be like, all the done, right? Which I hear all the time instead of like actually, you know, high performers rest because we have to rest to fuel our performance. Okay. So, and to close this out, you have some coaching questions for us to think about. What are those?
Starting point is 00:04:00 Yes. Here's a few. I would just say, you know, what is, again, the one thing that matters most to you this week or today? And just another question would be like, what can I remove or delegate or say no to this month? And what's maybe one boundary I can put into place to protect my time? Those are all some things to think about when you're working to stop the overwhelm. Because when you prioritize with clarity and intention, you feel more in control. we're confident and you're more aligned with who you want to be. And I would say, Lisa, you know, eye performers don't do more. They do what matters most. All right. So do you have a power phrase that's going to help us get through this day with this in mind? Yes. Today's powerphrase is today, I will do the work that truly moves me forward.
Starting point is 00:04:43 All right. If people want to read more about stopping the overwhelm and maybe talking about prioritizing intentionally, where do we go? You can head over to the mentally stung. And there's more information on there at our coaching and how we help people stop the overwhelm because it's so easy to get stuck in that cycle.
