Hi, Dr. Cinder Campoff here.
Myself and my team just conducted this national research study on confidence that you have to check out.
The report which you can download at Confidencestudy.com shows research-backed ways you can grow your confidence.
What leaders do to both kill and grow confidence and how confidence is not just a personal issue, but an organizational issue.
I'm telling you, you've got to check this out.
It's a game changer.
You can find our full report at Confidencestudy.com.
We're checking in with Cinder Campoff, and today the topic of discussion is designing a life you want.
Now, Cinder, start us off with one of your quotes.
I'm going to start with the quote by Mel Robbins.
He said, let them judge, let them misunderstand, let them doubt you.
Your job is to keep showing up as your authentic self.
And so what inspired this topic today?
Well, Saturday, I went to actually see Mel Robbins live in Minneapolis,
and I was there with our director of operations, turning as Heidi for our mentally strong institute.
And to be honestly, so I'm like, I was wowed.
She was hilarious.
She was real, just really authentic.
And also as a fellow speaker, I found myself just like watching not just what she said, but how she said it.
And I think her vulnerability, her timing, her connection just was really powerful.
And what really stuck with me was these three questions she left us with.
And honestly, these questions make you pause and really reflect on your life in a deeper way.
So I thought we could share with them and talk about them today.
Sure.
What were those questions?
All right, so they're simple, but they're profound.
So question one was, what does your life look like if nothing changes in five years?
Question two, if you are forced to change what you do, what is your plan B?
And then number three, if money doesn't matter and you didn't care what people thought, what would you do?
Wow.
All right, let's break those down and tell me a little bit about what makes each so powerful.
Well, I love the questions because I think it really cuts through the noise.
And let's take the first one.
What does your life look like if nothing changes?
I think that's a wake-of call.
It forces you to really look honestly at your current path.
And are you growing?
Are you just staying comfortable?
And I think the second question, what's your plan B?
That really builds adaptability.
You know, and we know high performers don't rely on just one identity
or one path.
They stay flexible, curious, and really ready.
And the third question is, I think, the most powerful.
That's the one I found was most powerful when she's
it. You know, if money didn't matter and you didn't care what other people thought, what would you
do? And, you know, because there's fear that often holds us back to the fear of judgment.
And what was your answer to the third question? Well, good question. Mine was to really
share my message even more, like on social media and on the podcast and just to be even more
authentic and to not overthink it, to not worry, you know, how it's received or what people
might say or how they might judge, you know, just to really show up and serve and just to just
stay focused on my purpose. I like that. Now, why do you think so many people struggle to answer that
third question in an honest way? I think because we're conditioned to think about what's realistic
or what other people expect of us instead of what we truly want. And we often filter our dreams
through fear, like fear of judgment, fear of failure, fear of getting things wrong. But that question
removes those filters and it just asks like, who are you without the noise? And when you can answer
that honestly, even just a little, you know, there's clarity and confidence, and that's what
starts to build. Now, Sinder, there is some research behind the idea of letting go of others'
opinions? Yes. And so these three questions connects to some research out of Stanford
University. And there's a well-known course called Designing Your Life. It's taught by professors
Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. And their work is all about intentionally designing a meaningful
life, you know, not one based on sphere or default path. And so these three questions are based on
that course called designing your life. And the one thing I think that is key about their ideas is to
not let limiting beliefs to other people's expectations design a life for you. Okay. So how can we
apply this today in our everyday lives? I would say start with one of the questions, you know,
just one, and give yourself permission to answer it honestly without filtering through what other people
might think because confidence isn't about having it all figured out. It's about having the courage
to be honest with yourself and then take one step forward. All right. Can you wrap this up for us today?
Absolutely. I think I'd wrap it up by just saying you don't need to control what everyone else thinks. You can
just control how you show up. And a power phrase for today. Let them think what they want. I'm focused on
being my best that I can be today and who I'm meant to be. Oh, I like that one. Good reminder.
for us and questions to answer for today.
