Sindra in studio with us again today. Good morning to you, Sindra. Good morning. It's great to be here. You're fun to follow on Twitter because she's here on Monday and then I'm like, all of a sudden she's in LA. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Just zipping around the country, checking things out. Did you know I was in LA from Twitter? I didn't. Well, from Twitter, I knew you were at Tony Robbins this weekend. Yeah, that is so cool. I was wanting to talk to you about that because I just finished the, I think it's a Netflix special on Tony Robbins. Yeah. Yeah. About his life and how he prepares for things. Was it called... I forgot what it was called. Something about your guru? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Yeah, it was pretty amazing. So three things that you learned from Tony Robbins while you were out in Los Angeles and had a pretty fun weekend. It sounds like you're pretty fired up and charged about it. Yeah, it was nice. How about we start with a quote? And I'll start with a quote by Tony Robbins. So he said, if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.
Starting point is 00:01:27 And so just the details. I went to a Tony Robbins event called Unleash the Power Within. And if you're not sure who Tony Robbins is, he has worked with U.S. President Serena Williams. He was in a movie called Shallow Hal. Yes. Yeah. And then I'm Not Your Guru just recently. And so the stars that were there is really interesting.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Kate Hudson, Mark Cuban, Carmen Electra, Charisse Throne, Kanye West. So it was kind of fun just seeing like obviously stars at this event. And 9,000 people in the Galen Center by USC campus. So it was actually really fun. Every single morning I would go before the event and run and I got to explore LA. I'd never been there before. Awesome. I went just from like sport event venue. I saw like the Staples Center. Then I ran to the Dodger Stadium. Then my favorite part was I ran around the USC track where Allison Felix has run.
Starting point is 00:02:16 So I was like, just pretending I was Allison Felix. Right. Like a lap. That's cool. So he's one of those people where if you, I understand if you listen to him and even watching the show, you come away feeling better and more empowered. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And that's actually why I went. Because, you know, I thought a little bit about J.F. Maynard, who was on our podcast before, a sports psychologist from Canada. And he said, you know, the key is to keep educating yourself. And so I just wanted to continue to learn. But also, I knew that I had this big goal that I wanted to just charge forward towards. And that's the launch of the book, my book coming up. And so I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything holding me back. And it was a really awesome event.
Starting point is 00:02:54 I feel like kind of definitely more charged. So that's kind of what you were looking for when you went. And it's nice to hear that, too. I think people that tune into this program every Monday think, you know, I'm tuning in to get some words of wisdom from Sindra. But you've got to get them from somewhere, too. You've got to learn a process in which to deliver that to people. So picking up all the things you can from everybody else that's working in the business has got to be pretty motivating.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Yeah. Find some new things and new ways to deliver that. New ways to deliver, just new thoughts and also experiencing it myself. And that's actually why I win. It's because I wanted to just feel a little bit more fueled. Right. And so I thought I would share today just some tips that I learned, some strategies I learned, some takeaways just so that we can all learn from my experience in L.A. this weekend.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Perfect. It's much cheaper for us to learn. Yeah, no doubt. You'll get it from you. What's the first takeaway? OK, so my first takeaway is actually from the first day. So it's a three-day event. And the first day, he talked a lot about how our energy comes from our psychology.
Starting point is 00:03:53 And one thing that he said that I have not heard anybody else say is he said, you know, we have a two-million-year brain. And so we're the only species that can have a thought and feel terrible in a second and then feel amazing in another second. But he said, you know, these are our thoughts. They're not our thoughts, but our mind's thoughts. And so your mind is not designed to make you happy. It's really to keep you alive. So he talked about how, you know, obviously life is too short to suffer. It's only our thoughts that we believe that can make us suffer. So really the key the first day was really about our psychology, which obviously is something that I study. When he said, you know, a complete focus on mastering yourself, mastering your thoughts, and then mastering your emotions is really important.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Because you can condition yourself to feel happier or less worried or less angry. My key takeaway from that, like my aha moment was like, yeah, we have a brain that is not designed to make us happy. And the thing that I talk about related to that is you shouldn't believe everything in your mind. You shouldn't believe everything in your mind because it's not designed to keep you at peak performance or lead you to the highest level. All right. What's your second takeaway?
Starting point is 00:04:58 My second takeaway is that fear is the only thing that stops you. And he talked about how achievers don't use the word fear, but they use the word stress. I was like, that's absolutely true. But we have fear because of our two million year brain. So the key is we can't fight it or pretend it's there. We have to use it. And so again, I think about what J.F. Maynard said on the podcast, you know, that world champions are not fearless, but they just fear less. Really, really great quote. So we all have fears, but the key is to move past them. And the key point that he made was that you can't feel fear and gratitude and appreciation at the same time. So you can't feel fear, something that you're afraid of or stress at the same time that you can feel love
Starting point is 00:05:40 and gratitude and appreciation. The key is to decide that life's too short to feel the fear and to choose to feel love and appreciation. And so the key is to find something that you can appreciate. Find something that you can love or show gratitude for. And the first day, by the way, you might have heard this. Maybe you saw this on the event or the movie you're watching. But the first night you actually walk across Kohl's on fire. Everybody does.
Starting point is 00:06:08 I've seen that. The fire walk. Yeah. Yeah. You did it? I did. You did. I totally did.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Are you freaking out at all? Like, what if I burn my feet? I'm training for a marathon. What am I going to do? All those thoughts have to go through your brain. They go through mine. And I'm standing in a studio in Mankato. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:20 And he builds it up. So for two hours, you're talking about, yeah, you have to embrace your fear and that you have to charge forward and look up and not think about what could happen. You know, the worst case. But the key is you get in the right state, the right state of mind, the right state in your body. And then you focus on three things you're grateful for and you charge forward on the firewalk. Actually, I didn't feel anything. Wow. So, but it's all about embracing your fear and, you know, and just moving forward regardless.
Starting point is 00:06:48 So that's the metaphor there. Cool. You know, that might sound a little crazy to walk on fire. What's the third takeaway that you brought? Okay. My third takeaway is from the last day. So we talked about how success leaves clues and he says how successful people leave clues on what works. So surround yourself with
Starting point is 00:07:05 the most outstanding people that do your work. And the key is to learn from them and get to know them. So find somebody who's playing at the level that you want to play at and then study them. But the key is to add value first because maybe they won't accept your mentorship right away. But the key is to add value. And my takeaway from that is, we've talked about how you're the average of the five people you spend time with on the radio here. But he talked about how to find somebody
Starting point is 00:07:35 that is outstanding at what you do. So it just kind of made me level up my thought about that and to really choose somebody who's already been successful, find what's working for them and then emulate them. And I think this is something that doesn't, I mean, obviously you just mentioned it. It doesn't only apply to sport. No. I mean, think about your business and your life and just where you want to go.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Well, I mean, even thinking about what if you're around, we've talked about this before. What if you're around somebody that you realize is not good for you, right? And it's somebody that even beyond like a friendship or something you can get away from, like maybe a family member that is negative or every time they say something, you feel like they're stepping on you. Well, one of the things that he said that it was kind of an aha moment for me is he said, you know, we have to accept our family, but choose our friends. And I was like, oh, man, that's good.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Because you, you know, you can't choose your family, but the key is to accept our family, but choose our friends. And I was like, oh, man, that's good. Because you can't choose your family, but the key is to accept them. And then choose wisely who you're spending your time with, because they can either help you up your game or not. And you're right, it's not just sports. It can be your work. It can be your relationships. It's everything. This is pretty good stuff. And I'm sure just cracking the surface of what you picked up this weekend in Los Angeles. But with these three tips and three takeaways from that weekend for you, how do we summarize this particular topic today? Two million year brain is interesting. Isn't it?
Starting point is 00:08:58 Yeah. Makes you really think about how, I guess for me, you know, how I do think and then how I really need to even condition myself to change that more. It's the conditioning part that's so hard. That's why we're doing it. It takes effort. It takes daily practice. So I would summarize this by saying high performers don't believe their two million year brain.
Starting point is 00:09:16 They choose to condition themselves to be happy and grateful. What is wrong is always there and so what is right? And they focus on love and gratitude and appreciation when they're fearful. They hang around with outstanding people to raise their game. Good stuff right there. And accepting your family. Yeah, that's good, isn't it? It is very good
Starting point is 00:09:36 actually. And we like to wrap up usually with a quote or an affirmation of some kind and then we'll point people towards following along with you social media wise and online. But what is the affirmation for today? I raise my game. I step up and I master myself to create the future that I want. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Now, if we want to get those affirmations, say, on Twitter or follow on Facebook or get a hold of you on the website and learn more, you've got a book coming up pretty soon.
