Starting point is 00:00:00 Don't die if you don't want to live. Or maybe just don't climb up a freaking tower. We saw fall. So you know what that means. Now it's time for how did this campaign? We're going to have a good time. Celebrates a failure. Not just be a hater because you know you wonder.
Starting point is 00:00:18 How did this campaign? Let's follow in the mediocrity of subpar art. Perhaps we'll find the answer to the question. How did this get made? Hello, people of Earth and welcome to how did this get made. The year is 2022. The movie is fall. What do you need to know?
Starting point is 00:00:37 Well, basically, this is a survival thriller. We are continuing our summer of extreme by focusing on two best friends who are also rock climbing buddies, Becky and Hunter, who climb up a 2,000 foot tall TV tower in the middle of the desert. Now, the climb, that was supposed to help. Becky come to terms with the death of her husband, Dan, who dies in the opening scene very similarly to a movie that we just watched a few weeks ago in the opening scene. But after a series of mishaps, Becky and Hunter are stranded on top of the tower for the entire movie. And boy, oh boy, we have a lot to talk about. I am Paul Shear and I am joined by my two co-host, Jason Manzukas and June, Diane Rayfield.
Starting point is 00:01:23 How are you both? Wow. You know, I really thought in this opening scene that this was going to be a movie about rock climbers. And like the first opening sequence is beautiful. Rock climbing on a mountain and blah, blah, blah. And I was like, oh, this is what we're doing. Cool, fun. And then the entirety of the movie takes place climbing a metal tower in the desert.
Starting point is 00:01:45 And I was like, what on earth is this now? By the way, Jason, let me just correct you here. Not climbing a metal tower at the top of it. The climbing happens very quickly. You're absolutely right. Over. Yes. Yeah. And that tower is so rusty. Yeah. I mean, I have so many questions about their choice of structure, but I guess we'll get into it. Yeah, I agree. Jason, the first few minutes, well, first of all, I love the movie.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Actually, I want to say that too. I mean, this movie is trashy, but I kind of loved everything about it. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Here's what I'll say. Really, there are, and we'll get to them, but there are a number of things that happen in the last 20 minutes of the movie that made me like the movie quite a bit more than, like up until then I would, I'm going to just say it. When she kills and eats the vulture, I was like, oh, okay, now this is the movie that I wish it had been the whole time. It is a very good tension-filled thriller. Amen. But it really gets bananas when she traps, kills, and eats a raw vulture. in the wild. They're trying to do so much in this movie.
Starting point is 00:02:59 And look, I get it. Clearly, this is a low-budget movie and a great way to do a low-budget movie. I've seen many people stuck at sea, the producers of this movie, I believe, did a film with two girls stuck in a shark cage in the middle of the ocean before this. Wasn't there one that was about people stuck on a chairlift at some point? Oh, that's a great one with the wolves. Then there's the Blake Lively one where she's like on a, like, a little. Yeah, the sharks. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:27 She's on a buoy. And what about that? And I think Baldoni comes and saves her. What about the other one? Is that the wrong? Is that a different move? No, that's it. He was cut out of it, though.
Starting point is 00:03:38 He was cut out of it for being a little weird. Now, I'll tell you this much. And this is a, I actually really like the actresses in this Virginia Gardner. We know her from beautiful disaster and beautiful wedding. That little series. By the way, I didn't put that together, though. I didn't either. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I was like, how do I know her? I think she is fantastic. Terrific. I was watching this and I was like, okay, this is so crazy that the other one is following her into this. And then I was like, she's so cute. She's so convincing. She got this pig tells.
Starting point is 00:04:10 I was like, I think I might do the same thing. If Virginia Gardner was looking at you and delivering those lines, Paul, I would climb a tower. That's what I'm saying. I bet you would both climb a tower. I'm in that push-up bra and said, let's go. We're climbing. And I will say this is definitely something as a young person I would have thought I can do that.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Like climbing things was something I felt very like, yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. I'll climb that ladder over. You know, like, that seemed to me. You know what I wished though, Jason? Because I felt the same thing. Like I could do. There's nothing I, that they did that I don't feel I'm capable of. But, wow, really, both of you.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Okay. Oh, yeah. I mean, I hate heights, but I also felt like there wasn't any. You really hate heights. I really hate heights. So I wouldn't like it, but I would do. But I also felt like there's no, we never got to see any skill. No.
Starting point is 00:05:10 No, because they're climbing a ladder. The majority of this movie is climbing a ladder. I mean, the opening sequence, I have no faith in them as climbers. Because like when Becky is stuck on the rock face, her husband's like just jump into my arms. And I'm like, that's not safe. We're not doing that. That would not work at all.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And by the way, though, but he, I'm not saying he deserved to die. Well, first of all, you sound like Jeffrey Dean Morgan now. But you know what? Anyone who goes up there to do this type of thing, it's very hard to have that much sympathy for. Yes. Yes. You know, this whole thing of like, you've got to face your fears. Do not let fear.
Starting point is 00:05:52 win, punch fear in the dick, all this stuff. I'm like, but fear keeps us alive. Fear keeps us on the ground. There's no reason other than Virginia Gardner asking you to that you have to do any of this stuff. Agreed. And not only that, but like what I never quite understood was not Virginia Gardner, but Becky. Becky, our main character who loses everything and everyone for the most part. I mean. Becky, though, Becky's, Becky doesn't really seem, like, I'll be honest. I think that Virginia Gardner and Dan belong together.
Starting point is 00:06:31 I agree. I feel like Becky. Becky and Dan are a bad match because I don't think Becky wants to be there. I think that Becky is not a climber. Yeah, she doesn't seem to have the same passion and drive, even prior to Dan's death. I mean, obviously post-Dan's. death. She's reeling and she's questioning everything and so forth. But even beforehand, on the mountain face, she seems nervous and anxious and all
Starting point is 00:06:59 the things you can't be if you're a climber at that level, you know? Yeah. It feels to me like Dan, her dead husband, kind of like met her on a weekend trip. And then he's like, oh, that's my love. And, you know, and that's why I feel like
Starting point is 00:07:15 Becky was okay kind of having this affair because everyone knew it. I mean, even the dad knows it. It's pretty harsh in the movie when you cut to 51 weeks later, not 52, but 51 weeks later. And Becky is in a downward alcohol spiral. And her husband's like, he's not a martyr. I'm like, Jesus, man. Like, her husband did die. Like, he didn't seem like an asshole. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan, like, really. You don't think he knew, though, that. You think he knew? I think he had a clue. Yeah. I don't know that he knew that they were cheating, but what's definitely clear, and the movie tells us, because every single picture that Becky looks at on her phone, someone is in the background of that picture revealing their true feelings. By the way, look alive when a camera comes out.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Look alive. You never know. You never know what people are going to catch. Zoom, zoom, zoom, enhance, enhance, enhance. You know, Becky's looking at the camera at a wedding. video and there's Hunter in the background just like looking so
Starting point is 00:08:23 lovingly at Dan and then in like an hour later she's looking at pictures and her dad is in the background at the wedding looking staring daggers at Dan you know live as an audience member
Starting point is 00:08:37 as an audience member we are we are like we are having I had a hard time digesting that Mason Gooding who is Dan was a bad guy Because we have no, nothing to lead us to believe that before he dies. And it's a harsh way to introduce these characters.
Starting point is 00:08:53 But I guess maybe everyone was right. Yeah, you never know. Can I just say? I mean, listen, go ahead. Well, and this has nothing to do with her acting because I like Grace Carolyn Curry, who plays Becky. Very good. But the entire time, I was like, why do I know her? Why do I know her?
Starting point is 00:09:09 And I'm like, oh, she looks like Tilly Norwood, the face of like the most beautiful AI actress. actress and I looked at it and I was like oh my and not not does not performance this is just based on looks and I was like she the perfect face because I mean they look when you look at them together there's a there is a similarity there and I was like maybe maybe we've been accepted this is a buzzfeed movie is this the first testing of Tilly Norwood this is a buzzfeed oh first first credit that came up buzzfeed oh yeah well I thought that some of the photography in the beginning especially was beautiful. You know, it's hard, though.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Again, I go back to the skill of rock climbing because, now, first of all, I don't know what ran out of that little hole that Dan. A little owl. A little owl? A baby owl? Oh, terrified. Scott, our producer, saying bats. I thought it had fur. Bats.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I thought it had fur, too. I thought it was like a gremlin. Yeah. Feathers around. So I thought it was a nest. I thought it was a ghouly. Guys, remember the ghouly? You thought it was a ghouly?
Starting point is 00:10:15 I think they come out of toilets, don't they? Well, let me ask this. That's the toilet of the mountain, that hole. No, let me ask this. I don't know, again, I'm not blaming this on his death on it. Well, am I? He didn't seem to put the stake in correctly. June, this, the stick.
Starting point is 00:10:34 If he could fall so easily. It didn't even like. He was playing fast and loose with those placements. It didn't even hold for a second. First of all, thank God that they weren't attached to each. They're always attached to each other, though, in this movie. And when they're climbing up the tower, they're attached to each other. But I mean, but I feel like you're right.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Like, she asks him, like, give me more slack. And she cuts out his slack to give him more room to kind of attach himself to the rock face. But it seems like, I don't know. They seem to her. I don't know what happened there. Because she didn't fall. Yeah, I guess you're right. So maybe there is good rock climbing here.
Starting point is 00:11:10 I didn't like the rock climbing on the tower because it just seemed like the rope was attached to the one of the bottom. above them. Like, it just seemed that that is what it was. So they were just two people attached by one rope. Yes. They were never attached to the structure. I don't think.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Yes. They were never clipping into the tower, which made no sense. No sense to me. No sense to me. You know, like, even when they were sleeping and stuff, I was like, anybody want to clip in? Exactly. Exactly. Tie yourself down.
Starting point is 00:11:38 We know that she's an active sleeper. Very. Becky. Like, anyone want to clip it. blood in her bed. Her nightmare was like that her husband's with her. And then, and she looks like, is it like his dead body fell into the bed? Like it's like you don't picture him as bloody. I don't think. Yeah. And the blood seemed to be on her. And I was like, wait, is she, when was she bleeding like this? I couldn't figure that out either. Or was that just the blood of her. Oh,
Starting point is 00:12:06 because had she had the leg injury by then? I don't know. No, she didn't have the leg injury by then. I don't know. No, she didn't have the leg. She didn't. Okay. And maybe she felt blood was on her hands. Oh, but then it would have been on her hands. I like that, though. I would have liked blood on her hands, but not on her sheets. I've never heard you have blood on your sheets. Here's, here was our, here was our. Not for the same reasons.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Paul. Here's where I think we had a major red flag about Dan. Why couldn't he say I love you? They're married. He said it in the nautical way, which is more romantic. They're married. The nautical way is much more romantic. Have you ever said I love you?
Starting point is 00:12:46 I would never say. Do it nautically? That's harder. And also, there's just a thing. And I guess this is just getting older. I guess it is getting older, you know. But I looked at them. I'm like, but they're so young.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Why are they married? Did anyone else think that? Am I just getting older? I'm like, why these children are married? They're so young. People being afraid to say, I love you, feels like it's from the 1950s. Right. It feels like men.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Men being afraid to admit not a. I'm going to say 25-year-old man in 2022. Who's married? Who's married? You know, like, I don't feel as though that is, that reeks to me of the middle-aged man who wrote this script, you know? Right. And it's also like, to me, a moment.
Starting point is 00:13:30 All of the people saying the word hashtag out loud also reeked to me of somebody older writing this script. Or a BuzzFeed executive being like, we need more hashtags in this movie. Put more hashtags in there. Put a list of the best things to bring on your camping trip. Well, here's my thought. And maybe this is just the way that I think. But if this guy is cheating on her, I would be saying, I love you all the time.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Because you've got to cover your tracks a little bit. I wouldn't be, I wouldn't be. Interesting. But I wouldn't be like being coy about it because that would open up questions. Right. But also, like, what this guy? What this fucking dick? He's having an affair on his wife.
Starting point is 00:14:10 And he brings, like, with her best friend. And the three of them alone go and climb some incredibly difficult, challenging mountain face? Like, I was like, what is this about? This guy is absolutely. I mean, I guess they were trying to kill her? An adrenaline junk. There was one point, though, where I did think Hunter's going to murder Becky up there. Wait, on the tower?
Starting point is 00:14:36 Yes. I was like, she's brought her up there and we're going to find out that she also murdered Dan. I felt we were close to that at one point. I have one little thing I want to bring up here too. This is, you know, as we're talking about the opening of the movie, there's a couple questions I had about Becky. And I feel like she's made a bunch of bad decisions, right? Not just only to climb this tower with a stranger, all this sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:15:04 That's not a stranger. I mean, it's her best friend. Is it her best friend? Because in my mind, I would say that Dan and Shil, should have been best friends and then Becky came into it. But it seems like Shiloh and Becky are best friends and Dan came into their relationship. Is that what we're trying to believe? I mean, I'm just...
Starting point is 00:15:21 Unclear. It did seem like... I'd like to call her Hunter, Paul. Okay. I'm going to... I'm sorry, I'm going to call her Danger D. I mean, just because I'm an OG subscriber to her channel. I'm just going to call her cherry pie because she is...
Starting point is 00:15:38 Cherry pie! I'm going to call her cherry pie because she's my cherry pie. Again, another thing that reminded me that a middle-aged person wrote this script is that the recurring song is Warrant Cherry Bye. Here's what I wanted to know about Dan. The lingering question for me is when Becky says something where they're sort of memorializing him up there, hunters crying after they threw off the ashes. And then Becky says something like, yeah, Dan. And he's always telling those shit jokes.
Starting point is 00:16:15 And I was like, are they saying that he was telling shitty jokes? Yes. Oh, I don't know. I thought she was saying shit jokes. Like shit jokes. Like, shit jokes. Like he does like poop jokes.
Starting point is 00:16:28 It is. I agree. But wasn't there another instance where they were making fun of his like dad jokes? So you're just saying they were bad jokes. He wasn't actually telling jokes about shit. I don't think so. I would like him more as a character. if he did only like poopoo shit show.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Well, one of my big notes on the movie was because there's a huge chunk of the movie, Act 2 is kind of inert in a lot of ways. There's a lot of like either not much is happening or failed attempts at things that don't amount to much. And I was like, oh, I wish we were in here having more flashbacks, more flashbacks that give us more insight into. Because when the cheating was revealed, I was like, oh, I like this. This is an interesting thing to insert here. Now there's this mystery we're uncovering. Becky's unraveling this betrayal from Danger D and Dan, of course.
Starting point is 00:17:24 And I was like, oh, we see it in those, like I said, before pictures where you see, oh, hunters lurking in the background or whatever. But I would have loved flashbacks that fleshed out that story because so little was happening on the tower. Right, because you do feel like, you feel like, well, what else could possibly happen on a small platform? And they have to invent certain things because there's moments where, like, you know, where like Becky thinks, oh, is Hunter dead? But I'm like, you really have to suspend your disbelief. They are on a tower. It's like, it's like pretty much transparent.
Starting point is 00:17:59 You know, you can see through everything. And she's like, is she okay? Is she okay? It's like, well, just look. You can look. You would hear it. You would see it. You would.
Starting point is 00:18:06 It's all right. It's hallucinating now, babe. Well, yeah. Well, that's later. I'm just saying in the first kind of moments, which is like, oh, you know, she's, she's not, it's like, well, you can see what's going on. There's nothing. Here's my question about what they, I understand what you're saying, Jason. I actually really, I enjoyed the movie.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I thought like, oh, this is paste. Well, I didn't think it was paced perfectly, but there were things happening that I didn't expect necessarily. But my main question, well, first, the egg drop challenge. Now, Paul and I are both, both of our children have competed. They compete annually in the Egg Drop Challenge. Now, granted, they're not dropping from that height. Oh, no. Just about a thousand feet lower, just a thousand feet lower.
Starting point is 00:18:48 They're not climbing, 2,600 feet in the air. But I did, if I were them, what I would have fashioned is, first of all, that phone needed way more padding. But I would have taken one of our shirts and fashioned some sort of a parachute. How would you do a parachute? Well, I would try to attach it to both. Now we're talking about a lot of structural engineering here. Tightly enough to that shoe that it would catch air.
Starting point is 00:19:22 And so land a little bit more gentry. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Okay. Can I also ask why they didn't try this? Yeah. If I'm them and I'm facing certain death. Got it.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Okay. We've exhausted all other options. Let's say the drone has already happened. What I'm going to then do is I'm going to take that rope and I'm going to tie it around both of us, okay, around our bodies. And we are going to shimmy down that pole together with the rope. Wait. So you want to have your feet. We're going to hold our arms around the rope.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Okay. Okay. We're both holding the rope. Right. But we are using the tension of it to slowly shure. shimmy our way. We're not attached to anything. I'm not saying it's not dangerous. Wait. So you're, wait. So you, hold on. I, first of all, I hope we have some sort of a graphic designer out there who could draw these mockups here. So you're saying that you're creating like a life
Starting point is 00:20:20 like a life raft structure. Like your bodies are connected by the hands and the shirt and you are. Well, you just use the rope is 50 feet. Just use the rope to, well, you put it around our back, but you can also, we can hold onto the rope on each side. You're on the other side also holding onto the rope. And you're using back on the rope with your feet on the pole? Yes. And we're shaming down. I mean, that's a thousand feet.
Starting point is 00:20:47 So how do you not slip? I'm not saying it's perfect. I think it would be hard. Here's my first move. Here's my, I love, by the way, and I'd love for everybody to weigh in on how would you have dealt with this. Yeah. First move, unscrew the red light bulb. first move.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Well, I only need to talk about that light bulb in a second. Somebody's got to notice. I wrote that down. That's for airplanes. Yes. That's to protect airplanes. So somebody's going to notice that light is not working anymore. And so maybe, maybe somebody will attend to that.
Starting point is 00:21:17 And by the way, can I just say this as you're talking about that? That's a good thought, Jason. It's not. There's no way in hell that is a light bulb that was at the top of that. That is a fucking light bulb. And it's like a 60 watt. I've never seen anything. thing as dumb as that.
Starting point is 00:21:34 Like, I'm, I'm in on this movie, but when she unscrewed a regular fucking, like, three dim light bulb. I have heavier duty light bulbs in, like, the outside lighting at my home. No one, and no one's gone up there in such a long time. That thing is, that building is abandoned for years. So you tell me that light bulb? It looks like a light bulb that goes into a Christmas candle light that you put in the window of your house at the holidays. It is hilarious. That was so tiny.
Starting point is 00:22:03 But yeah, that's my first move. My first move is to cut that light and figure out if somebody will notice that. And I couldn't figure out. I really enjoyed the presence of the binoculars and the flare gun. Yes. Because that, but that assumes that people have said somebody's going to get stuck up here. Okay. That's what I actually, here's who I also want to hear from.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Anyone who does that level of like. Well, we've seen this recently. We've seen this recently. We've seen this recently. I'm sorry. You're right, Paul. Alex Honnold, Free Solo, just climbed a building, but also two people just scaled another building and got engaged to each other at the top of some. I know that that's happened.
Starting point is 00:22:51 I'm talking about, I know that that has happened. I am per state building. Yes, of course, Alex, what's his face? But I'm talking about your, there are ladders. Okay, there's these, we're talking about places that are not meant to be scaled. I'm talking about the flare gun and the binoculars. That's just for regular maintenance workers. I guess so, but why would they need binoculars?
Starting point is 00:23:13 I don't know. That's what I, that's who I want to hear from. Well, maybe the binoculars. I mean, look, I think it's like, it's a cat bird seat. It's at the top. You know, it's like, to me, I'm like, give as, there should be as many tools as you need up there. Like, I mean, truly, it's like if you're climbing all the way up there. Babe, a flare gun implies that.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Like, you need rescuing. Yeah. Well, there you go. I mean, but maybe the worker might need rescuing. I don't know. Is there a flare gun at the top of the Empire State Building? I want to figure it out. Also, who's coming, who's going to go do this big event with a, like, a not fully charged drone?
Starting point is 00:23:50 And can I ask, could they tell anyone they were going? Also, you know what it was also giving me? It was reminding me of 127 hours in a way that I was like, oh, I wish that this had been, even as a lie at the beginning, based on a true story. Me too. By the way, I'm going to also just say that these people don't make good choices. I already know that our hero, Becky doesn't make a good choice.
Starting point is 00:24:16 She hasn't canceled Dan's cell phone plan. It's been a year. Cancel that stuff. You're just paying all that extra money for a cell phone plan. I got that. That makes sense to me. I think I would do that forever. Oh, come on.
Starting point is 00:24:28 It's an expense you don't need. But you know what? But you know what? I'm surprised at. What? I'm surprised that over these 51 weeks, Danger D. Hunter has not been calling Dan's phone to hear his voice talking. Well, this is what I was going to say.
Starting point is 00:24:48 What if she called and checked the messages? And one was from... Yes. And Becky saw it. Oh, oh. You're saying if Becky just checked his messages from Hunter. Absolutely. Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Like, you're telling me. Becky hasn't gone through that phone in the last 51 weeks? Oh, that's a really good point. Maybe the phone was on his body. Here's the saying that's possible. But here's the thing, the only question I had about Becky's grief was why was she keeping that box of cremated ashes on our kitchen table with her keys strewn over it? Yeah, the FedEx box with dust.
Starting point is 00:25:21 That felt disrespectful. Well, there's one line here that Hunter says. And I was like, even as a friend, I'm having a hard time swallowing this line. She goes, the only thing that drives me nuts is that box of ashes collecting dust. I'm like, it's a very specific thing to be driving you nuts, especially since you've never. There are lines. When Becky says to, when she notices a picture of her looking so happy, well, I think we'll find out later that it's because she was with Hunter was with Dan. But she says to her, she goes, oh, I wonder who that guy is.
Starting point is 00:25:55 He sure knows how to tickle your whistle. Ew. Wouldn't it be like whistle your what your whistle, but tickle your whistle? Tickle your whistle? I mean, is that like a fingering joke? Is it possible that this script was written by like. Tilly Norwood? Like a yes or a like a middle-aged foreign man.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Do you think Tilly Norwood both wrote it and cast it? Is this honest question? Is this a Tilly Norwood production? This could all be Tilly. We could all. Is this from Norwood Industries? I just, here's the question I have about Hunter. And this is why I do think Hunter's a psychopath.
Starting point is 00:26:32 And again, I would follow her onto this pole. Love it. Let's get a prequel. But she doesn't do a bit of research. I guess this is why they're both bad climbers, a bit of research about this structure. There's no plan. The integrity of this structure. Well, there's no absolute plan on any way of like, if we get stuck, if we get lost, if there's, like, that structure is rotten.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Or it just like, is. Rotted. Rotted to the bone. Yeah. It's bad. Oh, no. Like, screws are falling. Like, they also, once they're there, they have ample evidence as they begin
Starting point is 00:27:03 climbing that they should stop and turn back because this is, oh, wow, a cool idea structurally unsound. Yes. And I feel like, like, you would have been better, too, if, I mean, they did set up that the town knows that the thing is there and the light goes on because I don't, I guess even, yeah, I don't know. I mean, I guess it's set up as being dangerous. But I also... My assumption is people... I mean, if Hunter knows it's there and can be climbed, mustn't it just be a thing people do?
Starting point is 00:27:37 Well, no, she's Danger D. She's doing something real dangerous. She's doing something real dangerous. She's doing things that you wouldn't even think of. I mean, for the views. For the views, for the likes. I love Danger D. And by the way, the ultimate like was Dan's like.
Starting point is 00:27:49 I think I'm in love with Danger D. I love Danger D. Okay, what were the... This is the question I had about... Becky. And this maybe we may have answered this, but does she have a fear of climbing or is she trying to get over her grief? Because I couldn't quite tell like the way she approached it, it seemed that she was legitimately afraid of climbing. But it also felt like this trip was about her getting over her grief. I think that if I'm doing a little work on the movie's behalf,
Starting point is 00:28:20 I think the movie would like us to believe she loves climbing. Okay, that's what I was saying. She loves climbing, but her grief has kept her off of it and this is meant to be. And that Hunter is trying to get her back on the quote unquote mountain. You know what I mean? Here's what I will say, though. I don't know that Dan would have wanted this area to be his final resting place. Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:48 This is not beautiful at all. It's also like, I don't know Dan. I don't know Dan to be. climbing structures. I know Dan to be climbing mountains. Like, why? Why here? It's like at the middle of a fucking, no offense, but Podunk Town, which apparently has a lot of hotel businesses. There are an entire plan calculated around when people checked out of the shittiest hotel. I still not. That's an early checkout, by the way. 10 a.m. Can I tell you? Call down and ask for a later checkout. At this point, at this point, who's checking out, who in any hotel is checking out exactly at the checkout time? I'll be honest. If
Starting point is 00:29:25 If the checkout time is 10 a.m., I'm not staying in that hotel. I also want to know, you know, Paul and I, I hate to admit this, but we do have a history of pushing that checkout time. Yeah. Well, June has it. Well, there's a couple. Well, no. We always ask to push, but then even when we get, even when we get the actual, the new time, which is like, oh, it can't be 11. Well, like, this just happened where they said, I said, oh, can we later check out time?
Starting point is 00:29:53 Just a Sunday. And they said, absolutely, what works for you? Well, that's a hard question. What works for me is now I live here. Yeah. It's like, I don't like to stay the night. But I said, well, how about one? And then they said, we can do noon.
Starting point is 00:30:13 And I said, okay. So there was a little bit of a negotiation. Now, noon comes and goes. Well, let me, can I just put this into perspective? It's 1150. And June goes, let's go swimming. And I go, well, we're not packed. We're not packed.
Starting point is 00:30:29 We're not packed. And I go. And the pool was right outside. And, and, and, and June's like, well, you can go swimming. And to which she did. And did June swim for about an hour? Yeah. They did.
Starting point is 00:30:40 Oh, my God. I'm packing up, I'm packing up this room. I look out the window. And I, and I think I see June coming in to, you know, to help out the packing. But no, she's going into the hot tub with our boys. Just like, all right. And I'm like, it is. I was teaching them to dive.
Starting point is 00:30:56 It's very rare we have a pool deep enough to dive in. And that's critical, like, yeah, summer studies. So, yeah. So, I mean, so, and we have done this. We just recently, by the way, we had to check out of hotel on Saturday and Sunday this week, two different hotels. And both, we were aggressively late on both. But that's the thing. Nothing happens to us.
Starting point is 00:31:20 Right. I also feel if you have a bag open on the bed and housekeeping coming. in your bag. I'm doing it. I'm almost down. I'm in the process. And of course, I want them to have their time. Oh, it's only happened once that a housekeepers actually come in and I've said, I'm so sorry, we're literally walking out. And the bags really were just right there. It's like, I'm a guest also at other hotels. I want you to have your time to clean this room. I really, really do. Well, my question, my follow-up question was how would you feel about arriving at your hotel at three and the room is not clean. Well, I did that. The hotel that we were checking out of on Sunday, their check-in was,
Starting point is 00:31:56 get this, 4 p.m. What? And I was like, that's, yeah. I'm paying for a night that starts at 4? I was, angry. I was like, what are you talking about? 4 p.m.? And the other hotel we checked in, it was 3.30, right? Check-in was only after 3.30? I was like, this is not. Well, that's because people are not checking I know. I do think we're part of that problem, Paul. Well, but no, no, no, they didn't go like, let me tell you, the room's not ready. They're like, no, no, no, our check-in time. Like, the one on Sunday was like, our check-in time is at four. Compeller high water.
Starting point is 00:32:31 The room could be sitting there. I looked at them with it. Maybe they're trying to drive you into the restaurant or drive you into spending more money. I think quarantine, they've all trimmed down on their housekeeping staff. That's why they all have those stupid signs. Like, let's not make up the room. they have pulled back and we are suffering on the check-ins and the checkouts. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:54 It call comes back to us. We are the victims. We are the victims. Not the people cleaning the rooms. But going back to that motel. I can't imagine. I want a full 24 hours in there. Check in a 4 or check out of 4.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Why am I fucking getting just a little chunk? Why are we getting 16 hours? Why are we paying for the day? You're right. That is a little weird. I get a full 24 out. Give me four to four. But then what is the next person supposed to do?
Starting point is 00:33:20 They have to figure that fucking shit out. Like, I need 24 hours. They're on 7 to 7. Yeah. Figure it out. People get on your fucking schedule. I'm like, I'm like to get full day. It's like a production hour.
Starting point is 00:33:32 It's just like the week gets later and later and later. You're telling me four is checking and check out as noon. Ooh, I get to Hawaii tonight. I'm excited. I check in at 3 a.m. Here's my question. By the way, can I just tell you one? One quick thing, sorry.
Starting point is 00:33:49 The most passive-aggressive thing I ever did was I was going to New York. I was on like an overnight flight. And I said, oh, we can help accommodate an early check-in. Now, did I get there very early? Yeah, I got there around six in the morning to this hotel. And I was like, can I check? Well, then you got to pay for the night. Well, I said, yeah, well, I said, can I check in?
Starting point is 00:34:09 I said, no, room's not ready till 10 a.m. To which I said, fine. And then I took myself and I laid down. on the couch in the lobby like a bed. And I, and I, and I, What hotel was this? There was some hotel in Midtown Manhattan. And I, it was tired.
Starting point is 00:34:30 You were not upset to never go back to it. Yeah, there was definitely an energy of, there's definitely an energy that I'm never coming back. I know a note associated with your name on that hotel's, uh, uh, yeah. It's the Hilton or Luigi, you know, famously. Oh, no. Shoes off.
Starting point is 00:34:46 couch. I laid down. I made myself, I made myself a menace to that place. I was like, I pad out. I've never heard of such a thing. Yeah, I think I lost my mind. I think it was. I didn't sleep on that flight. I was really tired. I had a big day coming up and I wanted to check in and everyone had told me and assured me, don't worry about it. You'll be able to check in early. And I couldn't. And I, and I set up 10 is still early. I'm amazed you got 10 a.m. What I would have done... I think that was a normal check-in time. What I would have done, especially at a not-great hotel, if it's reasonable.
Starting point is 00:35:25 By the way, it was a nice one. Oh, my God. But I would have just bought the night before. Well, I tried to do that, too. I tried to do it. I tried a couple things. They said, no, no, no, no. So I apologize if anyone saw me sleeping in a hotel lobby, like a vagrant.
Starting point is 00:35:38 You don't have to apologize to them. All of this can be. All of this is to say, what I'm just going to go back to is the motel that's near this structure, this rusted out fucking dank, like old TV tower. That motel, the checkout is at 10 a.m. Yeah. Which means they must, I can't imagine check-ins before three. They must- Wait a second. No, no. In that town, they're coming in a check-in at three? All right.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Well, I don't know. That's what I'm asking. That's where most check-ins are. All right. I think that's pretty standard for any hotel. I think this is like a roadside motel. I think this is first come first serve. Okay. Well, that makes more sense because I'm like, wow, they're giving maybe there's one housekeeper, but like that's a lot of time to clean them.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Yeah, I agree, but I think this is even lower stakes than any of that. The average check in time for hotels is 3 p.m. With an industry standard ranging from 3 to 4, checkout windows are from 10 to 11. And that four-hour gap is... Ten is crazy. Ten is crazy stuff. Anyway... Sorry, I guess four is normal.
Starting point is 00:36:52 This is... Three to four. Who are the guys that steal the car? The methods. Oh, yeah. What's their deal? Well, that's the thing. I wanted to establish them more as, like, a Breaking Bad duo.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Like, I think that they were alluded to as being, like, meth-y weirdos. but I feel like they should be, oh, fucking cops, they're going to fucking bust us or do something suspect because for them to see a flare and go, oh, great idea,
Starting point is 00:37:20 let's go steal the car. Like I was like, oh, this is such a leap. Did they see them up there? Genuine question. Did they see them? Yes, they have a telescope. They have a telescope like they're pirates.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Yeah, they're, they're, they're, they saw two young women who are too young to be married up there alone. In push up bras.
Starting point is 00:37:39 In push up bras. And VS. By the way, I've never heard Victoria's Secret referred to his VS. In VS, pushup bras. No. And they, that was bizarre.
Starting point is 00:37:50 And they steal their car and leave them to a certain death? I mean, I couldn't make heads or tails out of that. Those guys are sketchballs, absolutely. But I think I needed more sketchiness from them to buy, like, or if you know what had been fun is if they had like an interaction
Starting point is 00:38:06 where those guys came over to their diner table and was like, hey, ladies, you like to party. and they're like, get away from us, you fucking skank meth heads. And then they saw them and they're like, let's kill them. That's exactly what should have happened is we should have met like five townspeople. We met the woman, the waitress at the diner who pointed out where the tower is. In the diner, we should have met like four or five people that throughout the movie we could have cut to to see that like when the truck hits the drone.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Right. You know what I mean? Like we never get. And I get it because it would maybe. let some of the tension out or something like that if we weren't just with the girls the whole time. But there's an element of like, oh, it would have helped me understand, ooh, somebody could, if somebody picked up the drone, you know, engaged with it more and then it's still amounted to nothing.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Those kind of like, oh, are they going to get rest? Like this moment of the guys being like, oh, they see us, they see us. And then they're stealing my car happens in one and a half minutes. So quickly. That's why I missed some of it. Now, I don't really know how far binoculars your average binocular can see, but I found it pretty unbelievable that those binoculars could watch that man outside of his truck look over and see the drone with the note in it, but not pick it up. Yeah. That note in it, like, that was such a, look, if I see a drone, I'm like, oh, I guess they want to talk to me.
Starting point is 00:39:35 It would be like, get the fuck away. Like, I would just leave it there on the road, too. It didn't seem to me like, I don't know. Let me go investigate. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of things that I feel like they could have done. But what I think was very smart was, oh, and you know what?
Starting point is 00:39:53 Wow, we really have not. We've gotten this far into the podcast without revealing that in that almost all of Act 3 is a fight club situation, a Tyler Dern. Oh, yes. Where our two girls. Did it surprise me? No, it didn't, although I thought they effectively camouflaged it. Right. I thought so too. You know, so there's a moment where a hunter is going to descend the 50 feet of rope that they have in order to pick up the backpack so that they can get the drone and blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:40:27 And there's all this mechanics of her going down. It's super dangerous. She gets the backpack. And then she gets, Becky, rather, pulls her up. pulls her up and then they're up there and they get the drone and everything we've talked about with the drone and everything happens after that. And then at the end of the movie, it's revealed that in fact, Becky has been doing this all alone because in that sequence at the end of Act 2, Hunter has fallen to her death. She was unsuccessful in, she was successful in getting the backpack, but she
Starting point is 00:41:00 fell to her death afterwards and that every conversation that they've been having, Becky's been having with herself in a fight club kind of a way, right? Is that a good news right now? Yeah, right? So everything that she's like, like when she's charging the, like, by the way, that was the funniest thing when she's holding the drone to her chest, she plugs it in, which is something that I still don't believe is a functional way to charge. I don't think you can do a charger and all that sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:41:26 The wedding band is the conduit. Loved that. Loved it. Again. But she's not tied onto the pole at all. She's simply holding her entire. body weight up. That was just core work.
Starting point is 00:41:38 But for how long would it take to charge four bars of a drone? That was the thing. I'm going to say like three hours? I don't know. Right, because it's like that to me is the funny thing. She's holding on and she goes, what does the one bar mean? And I'm like, all right. So you don't even understand that technology?
Starting point is 00:41:53 Like we all understand that the bars, one bar is. But by the way, you watch Survivor and you look at some of the survivor challenges where it's always the tiny little women that are winning the poll challenges where they just have to sort of. koala bear around the poles. It's not the big buff guys. And they stay on for hours. Oh, yeah. And just like Hunter says, it's just like pole dancing. It is just like pole dancing.
Starting point is 00:42:18 And then she sings cherry pie. And the way that she sings it, it doesn't feel like it's a pole dance. She's like, she's like, she's my cherry pie. I'm like, oh no. Now, I have to say, I thought that they did a great job. Well, I, you know,
Starting point is 00:42:36 You know, again, I really enjoyed this movie. I thought they did a great job with the makeup and showing them sort of the sun damage, the chapped lips, day to day, looking so dehydrated. But my question was this. And I think this is only something the women are going to relate to. You are up there. By the way, moment one, just seeing the structure, I'm putting my hair up in a fucking bun. Yep. The fact, done.
Starting point is 00:43:04 That's literally the first thing that's happening. I mean, I would do it too, but I have a couple of issues. Now, I understand, okay, we've used one hairband to secure the phone into the shoe. But it turns out, as we'll find out later on in the end sequence, she had another hairband the whole time. The fact that that hair was down. Also, they never do an inventory of the backpack. What else? There mustn't there be so much stuff in a in a adrenaline junkies gear-based backpack? Well, anything to help you survive?
Starting point is 00:43:42 Where were the snacks? Where were they? Well, my favorite moment was when they finally get the water and she starts drinking it. And she's like, you want some? She's like, actually, we should save it. I'm like, that's the worst thing you could possibly say to somebody who just took a big, like, we should ration it now. It's like, no, no, say that before she takes a giant gulp of it here. People, come on. People are the dumbest. Cancel that cell phone plan. It definitely felt to me like, oh, they're too young.
Starting point is 00:44:05 They're not prepared. When they start to go down and the ladder collapses, they seem so shocked later on that the ladder's not there. Yes. Well, because I think it was done in CGI and they weren't there for the actual ladder collapse. They are like, when they get to the top of the platform, they're laughing. They're like, we did it. And then they look and are like, wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:44:29 And I'm like, you, this all just. fell from like under your feet. What did you think? Well, the ladder collapse to me really hit home because it felt like when I'm building Legos, like when you're trying to put a real ladder together and like I was building the Daily Bugle and it's, it fell apart in such a way that it was almost like paper. Like I didn't even understood how it could have held them because it crumbled, it crumbled into dust.
Starting point is 00:44:54 And it feels like, why don't you do that, like have them lose a rung in the middle of it or something? It just seems like they. And then, you know what? really pissed me off, though, Paul. Then, because there's a little bit of that ladder, there's probably like five feet that's remained there. Yes. That's attached to the platform.
Starting point is 00:45:12 When they get back on that to go get the, to sort of hang off of it to try to get service, she doesn't check that ladder to see if it's secure. They jump right back on it. Yeah. And this thing is crumbling. And when one of the screws falls out and falls near her and makes a metallic cling, She just goes, what was that?
Starting point is 00:45:32 What was that? What was that? That was, let's start going back down. Get out of there. Get out of there. I didn't appreciate. And again, I really enjoyed this movie, but I did not appreciate that they didn't show us the rescue. That was crazy.
Starting point is 00:45:47 How did they get up there? How did they get up there? Here's the thing. This is where the low budget comes into. This is all money. Yeah. And my guess is a helicopter. Oh, and then they just lowered her right at the base.
Starting point is 00:45:58 They didn't bring it to a hospital. There was a helicopter. circling. But again, they lowered her instead of bringing her to a hospitalist woman who's bleeding out. Yes. I imagine. And again, Jason, you may know more about this than I do about because you love alone and the survival elements of this stuff. But here's a woman who just ate a raw vulture. Yeah. Like ripped into its chest and started eating its organs. She is puking and shitting. Like I understand like we need energy.
Starting point is 00:46:25 But it's not like that goes down smooth and gives you energy. That is going to make you completely. fucking barf. I thought could she try to cook it? Are we going to make fire up there? Or just cook it on the hot thing. Yeah. It must have been roasting hot in the daytime. Just wait.
Starting point is 00:46:42 You're basically on a grill top. Yes. Just like maybe like salt. Maybe a little bit of salt on each side. A good seer. Just take some of your sweat. Use the salt from that. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:46:56 You know what I also was like they really didn't seem to have much basic just for state training either because when she says about her leg, oh, you know, it doesn't hurt anymore. It's just starting to smell. I thought, oh, well, we are. We're done. Oh, honey. We're in a bad way, sweetie. Like, she announces that, like, it's all good.
Starting point is 00:47:19 It's just smelling now. And now, are vultures similar to Borg where they have one collective mind because- It's a hive mind? It's a hive mind because that one, that one vulture understood like, oh, got it. You killed my friend. By the way, best vulture fight since Spider-Man Homecoming here. Oh my God. She fucking fights. That was an amazing
Starting point is 00:47:39 sequence. It made me laugh so hard when she fought. And let me be clear. Vultures are big. This is a bird that has a good fight. So big that at a certain point I was like, should they try to get on the back of a vulture and just ride it home? I thought that you were going to put the
Starting point is 00:47:54 wings on her shoulders. Like the Eagles that rescue Gandalf when he's at the top of ministeria. I thought it was going to be a little bit like an Icarus story. Get those wings on. Fly. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:48:07 Oh, my lord. Oh, wow. God, that made me laugh. Yeah, her fighting the vulture. These were the beats that I was like, yes. Her, the reveal that it's a Tyler Durden fight club scenario. Her fighting the vulture, getting the energy going down. And then what we're forgetting.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Her cramming the Converse All-Star into Hunter's body cavity. The most beautiful egg dream. Crop scenario. I'm sorry. That was incredible. And when she says, I gotta make sure this gets a sick. Now, what was the point? It went in real smooth. It went in so smooth.
Starting point is 00:48:42 She shoved it in there like you're just putting a sneaker in a box. Like it was like her body was built a whole sneakers. Hunter has no ribs whatsoever. I was like, this is, you know, gave me a whole new idea about packing cubes. Now, when I saw her and do this. You need like a C to summit waterproof packing cube to get that phone. By the way, that's going to be a hard thing to explain too. Yes.
Starting point is 00:49:08 You know? The other question is this. Was the plan that by the time it got to the ground, the egg drop got, it would send something like, like a, because sometimes when I try to send a text that says not sent, it doesn't just automatically keep on running it through. I agree. It just doesn't send. And that's part of the problem for like why we didn't get to see the rescue is was what happened. and the phone dropped inside of Hunter's body. And then the text went through to Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Starting point is 00:49:36 And then he called the authorities. But then he was the last to arrive. But he also didn't think that she was alive because he sees that body on the ground. He's like, oh, my God. I think that he just finds out. Right. The other question is, was she live streaming? And did the live stream start inside the converse inside Hunter's body?
Starting point is 00:49:56 That's quite a way for an influencer to go. But it looked like she. She texted her dad was what it looked like. I think she did. I think she did. Phones, of course, don't work that way. And again, like, the movie just needs to be over at that point. So even though earlier in the movie itself, they were like, oh, we can't just send a text because it might not go through.
Starting point is 00:50:17 We have to do an update to my channel. Well, I mean, by the way, I hope that she takes over her channel. Oh, that would be beautiful. I mean, that would be the beautiful, like, twist of fate. Are we all willing to say that if we are in some sort of catastrophic life-threatening situation, we will upload a message to the how did this get made channels? Is that the safest route? The Discord will kind of give us a bunch of corrections and omissions of how we should have saved ourselves.
Starting point is 00:50:47 Okay. You definitely correct any spelling errors or punctuation or grammar. That don't do. If we're in a bad situation, we will update the Discord or maybe just. just Reddit. Right. Well, yes.
Starting point is 00:51:01 Reddit could work too. Stuck at the top of a tower, AMA. Now, I will tell you this all. And, you know, we would, I would love for us to...
Starting point is 00:51:10 A lot of people would be like, actually, that tower is not in Nevada. It's in this one. Well, you're actually mispronouncing Nevada. No,
Starting point is 00:51:18 I actually know what Nevada is. The towers aren't as good as they used to be. I would love to have seen us in this movie. Unfortunately, we were not cast in the sequel, fall two, deadpoint,
Starting point is 00:51:35 which comes out this September. Wait, no. Is it Becky again? Well, this is two women find themselves in a desperate fight for survival when a mountain rock side leaves them stranded on a fragile plank more than 3,000 feet in the air.
Starting point is 00:51:51 It's Danger D's sister. Is in it? Yes. I mean, these... It's just... Jack's Hunter. And they're on a beam. Jacks Hunter?
Starting point is 00:52:04 Yeah, that's her name. Fuck yeah. And Jacks Hunter is played by Harriet Slater. But if you want to look at the poster for it, it's pretty amazing. It's like the Indiana Jones rope bridge from Temple of Doom, but it's just a plank. And there's one person falling off that plank. And the other person just on the plank. So they're stuck on a rope bridge for the whole movie?
Starting point is 00:52:24 I mean, they say. I love it. If that's what it is, I love it. It's like, it says, yeah, they're trapped very high. There's a trailer out for it right now. Great. But it is coming out September 2nd. I feel like, we gotta go.
Starting point is 00:52:37 I'm ready. Again, I enjoyed this movie. I did too. I really did. Like this, of all the things that we watch, it went down smooth. It was fun. I think these two actresses did an amazing job. I do, too.
Starting point is 00:52:47 It would have been insufferable if they weren't very watchable. Yes. Do we think that Hunter and Dan had to die because they cheated? Is this a moral tale? Oh, that's a moral, yeah. Is this a story about, this is paid by a Catholic church? Yeah, is this a story about like, hey, you cheat, you die.
Starting point is 00:53:07 I don't know, because again, I'm like, they're too young to be married. They don't have any children. So I'm like, go do whatever the fuck you. What are we talking about here? A good chance to get started over. It's a great. There's no children involved. Like, who cares?
Starting point is 00:53:23 Yeah. No, I agree. I agree. And in so much so that I was like at a certain. point, I really wanted Becky on top. Once Becky knows that Ben and Hunter were cheating and that she knows that her dad didn't like Ben and all this stuff, I wouldn't have minded once she's up there and she realizes she's alone, maybe before she fights the vulture or something like that, if she just like opened a Tinder profile.
Starting point is 00:53:51 And then the swiping and then she starts a Tinder profile when the shoe hits the ground, All of a sudden, guys are like, swipe right, swipe right. And then, uh, and that's how they? Here's a question. Why did Jeffrey Dean Morgan do this movie? I was, I had the same question. I've got to assume he knows somebody in this movie. Like, there's a connection.
Starting point is 00:54:11 He's great. He's always amazing. Can I tell you? I'm going to tell you, uh, it probably has something to do with like a hundred thousand dollars for a day and a half of work. Maybe. Like I, like I feel like, I've, I've, I've a feeling that they threw a bunch of money at him. He's great.
Starting point is 00:54:26 But he only has, he really only has, one scene outside the bar and then later in the movie, he's still in that same dark alley outside the bar. So he's, I want to know what he's up to in the meantime. And then he just kind of pulls up and he's like, are you okay? And that's it. Like he, a day, a day at the most, a day at the most, I would think. And by the way, he checked out at 10 a.m. And he checked in at 4 p.m. Yeah. Here's what I'll tell you. We will wrapping it up here, but I think we have to revisit fall two. I'm looking at the trailer right now. Definitely. The plank is very tiny. But this movie, people love this movie. It is now time for a second opinion.
Starting point is 00:55:06 We need a second opinion. We need a second opinion. We need a second opinion. There are, give me a second, we need a second opinion. There are, and this is kind of a record in a way, because, well, this movie's only been out for a short period of time, a couple years, 1,041 reviews for this, which is very high for a new film. 78% are five-star reviews. And Barbara Klotz writes, anyone who has a fear of heights definitely needs to wear an adult diet. The Aspucker meter broke during this movie. This movie rates five stars for suspense and sheer entertainment value, a rare treat for a very original and creative storyline.
Starting point is 00:56:15 All of that is in caps. The title, Wow. Ready to get the scare of your life? Five stars. Wow. All right. She's ready for it. And then Joe writes, we have a home theater.
Starting point is 00:56:26 So we watch a lot of movies. It's been quite a while since a movie has made me. sit on the edge of my seat with my hand over my eyes, peeking through my fingers, and occasionally just about nearly almost soiling myself. For two hours, this movie turned me into a sissy, wanting my mommy. Ew. Five stars. This is everyone's, why is everyone dealing with ass issues on this movie?
Starting point is 00:56:56 Ass puckering, shitting themselves. Gross. Really, well, this one by Jay Vincent is titled, well, I'll just read it. Jay Vincent writes, excellent portrayal of female friendship, offering women characters who are fully rounded, capable, and intelligent, without being belligerently feminist in its presentation. Although it definitely does play the old trope of betrayal, five stars, excellent portrayal of female friendship without being belligerently feminist. I don't even, I don't understand. Yeah. And, I mean, people are really nervous during this movie.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Thomas Morgan writes, this is one of the most exciting, scary films I've ever seen this century. Because Das Boot was last century. What? What? The submarine movie? Yeah. Okay. I mean, Giggs writes, don't go climbing where you don't belong in the first place.
Starting point is 00:57:55 The tension was practically unbearable. We all identify with the characters. We feel what they feel. we see what they see. We're with them every step of the way. Okay, self-preservation shouts at us all with multiple voices and they're very loud. The terrifying part of falling to one's death is that you have time to think about it on the way down. How will I feel when I hit the ground? Will I feel it? Will my last sensation be agonizing pain? Why did I do this? I should have stayed home. No more getting drunk. No more getting laid. No more laughing. No more having good times with friends.
Starting point is 00:58:26 all these thoughts and more will pass through your mind like the fast forward on a tape player all while you're at terminal velocity feeling the wind rushing past you at 125 miles an hour and screaming the faithful we see this on television or in James Bond movies and aside from the occasional feelings of nausea and vertigo i got through the film okay hoping it would all turn out well in the end and at the very end of the film i felt exhausted and spent and i was glad it was over this film was extremely well written superbly acted. The filming was extraordinary, especially at the heights it appeared to be. And I can only think a large amount of funding was spent on the CGI, because there was one of those
Starting point is 00:59:04 adrenaline junkies holding the camera. Although I do doubt they pay actors to do their own climbing, lots of movie magic. I will add this to the other movies of my collection of mountain climbing films like K2, into thin air, Mission Impossible 2, Vertical Limit, Clifhanger, and the North face. That's as far as I'll ever get to being on some sheer cliff face or treasured mountainside, five stars. Don't look. down. Wow. Or a Paul Shear rock face. That was, that was so much information. So much. And by the way, I cut it down. I mean, the first line is I didn't watch this movie. I endured it. The person seems to feel as though they shot this movie at that height. Yes. Yes. That's exactly the problem. They just shot it on a tall mountain. They shot it on a tall mountain. And so it looked like they were high. They unfortunately built it on an an hill that shut down production. Oh, really? Yes.
Starting point is 00:59:57 And then they got caught in a windstorm, which almost knocked the whole thing over. And it was based on the real KXTV, KROV tower in Walnut Grove, California. Okay. The second stall structure in the United States. Jason June, any thoughts about this movie? Anything that we didn't mention? I don't, I mean, I think we covered pretty much everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:21 I mean, the one thing, like, I just, I think that if I am, If it comes to it and I have to fight a vulture, I think I'm jumping off saying my last. That's it. You're going to kill yourself. Wow. Okay. If you could wrangle a couple of vultures, you might be able to fly away with them.
Starting point is 01:00:42 You think so? No. Guys, I got to tell you. Guys, I just, I know we got to wrap it up here. I just, I want to tell you this. I just looked at Virginia Gardner because I'm like Virginia Gardner. I like her. I want to see what she's in next.
Starting point is 01:00:57 I like her. She is in a movie called Killer Whale about two best friends who find themselves trapped on a remote lagoon with a vengeful orca. So she's making some great places. She is doing it. By the way, Scott, put it on the list. Killer Whale. I mean, we're having a Virginia Gardner fall or summer. I'm ready for it all.
Starting point is 01:01:22 I mean, she's doing it. doing our summer gardening. She, oh my gosh. So June, we know that June would kill herself. Jason, you are a survivalist. In our group, you are the biggest survivalist. I would certainly try some stuff.
Starting point is 01:01:40 Of course I would, too. I'm just saying it ends. You know, it ends with us. Me and the wheelchair. No, I don't think I'm coming down. You know what I mean? Like, but I would try more stuff. For me, I would also be more prepared, if I'm honest.
Starting point is 01:01:55 I would hope so. Jason asked, is this movie about, you know, an indictment on people who cheat or like the people who cheat paid the ultimate price? What I would say is this is a movie about social media influencers who are fucking with nature. She took that picture with that dead donkey. She said, feeling peckish. And from that moment on, she has doomed herself to death. That to me felt like leave the world alone. It's not all about just getting your likes.
Starting point is 01:02:25 It's not all about getting the thing. You know what? We should all be sitting down talking about our favorite wrestlers, not climbing the top of the mountains. All right. That's what we should. That's what this movie is about. Let's take away the mountains and just talk about Stone Cold Steve Austin or mankind. Let's sit there.
Starting point is 01:02:40 She should just be hanging out with Jeffrey Dean Morgan in his candy shop in upstate New York that he owns and runs with Paul Rudd and having a nice life. And you know what? Great. You're rid of Dan. You know? Yeah. The cheater Dan. I like Mason Gooding, too.
Starting point is 01:02:57 And I think maybe that was my hard time with him because I have a positive association with him in those screen movies. I like him as an actor. So I feel like they needed more of a dick. And I think he should have been more of a dick in that first scene. Like, what are you afraid of? Just jump. Like, I would have liked a little bit of that.
Starting point is 01:03:11 Just give me a little bit. I don't know. I think I also would have liked it if in the beginning they had been climbing a non-mountain thing. So that it was. They're more adventure climbers. I wish this was on a mountain. Yeah, no, I hear that.
Starting point is 01:03:26 Well, the next one... I wish just for the visuals. This looked better than just them atop a rusty tower. Well, you're going to get it in fall, too. They're on a plank. Can't wait. They're on a literal plank. June L.
Starting point is 01:03:39 On Prime right now. Number one show in the world on Amazon for many, many weeks. Wow. And one of the most popular shows right now on Prime. It's great. I guess I just did the plug. Yeah, I've nothing more to say. Go watch it.
Starting point is 01:03:55 You're fantastic. It's really a sweet, fun show. It's fantastic. Jason, anything you'd like to plug? Oh, you know what? I would love to plug, actually. My new favorite relaxation show is the new season of fake or fortune has started. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 01:04:13 A spinoff of Antiques Road Show. Don't get twisted. And boy, is it dynamite. Fake or fortune. This is a show in which people, the experts, somebody comes to the experts and says, I think I have a Modigliani painting, and they have to go and try and forensically investigate this painting
Starting point is 01:04:33 and try and prove that it is in fact a fake or it's worth a fortune. Oh, I love this. All right. So is great. I just want to also say we didn't talk about a T-shirt, but I do feel like this would be great to make a I love you in Morris Code t-shirt, but it doesn't say a 14-3. Yeah, a 14-3.
Starting point is 01:04:51 I think we don't even have to say I love you on it. Just like Dan. We don't have to say, I don't. Dan could never say he loved you to either of the women that he loved. No, that's true. And he died. He died there. Thinking that thought on the way down.
