Charming snakes, listening to stand-up and finding out what's in that kilt.
All this and more on today's.
How did this get made Last Looks?
Hit the theme!
Salutations to all my sexy, slithering snakes.
I'm your ancient snake god Paul Sheeran.
Welcome to How Did This Get Made Last Looks?
No, I will not be doing that the entire show, but I kind of want to.
Anyway, this is the podcast where you, the listener, get to voice your issues on the layer of the white worm.
A movie that Discord user Android Lauren Hotel thinks should have been called the Great British Snake Off.
I like it.
Thank you, Android Lauren Hotel for killing it with that alt movie title.
And a huge shout out to hominim for today.
opening theme song. Wow. So much to get in today. This movie made you all feel a lot of things.
But you know what? I got to go back to hominem for one second because they made me feel something with
that awesome theme. Why? Because it was great and it was short. And if you want to be like hominem,
all you need to do to submit a song is go to hdtgm.com and just click the submit a song button
and you're done. It's just that easy.
Remember, use our Discord at Discord.g.g.m.
To submit an alt-movie tagline to comment on the films, you know how this works.
Now, coming up in today's episode, we will be responding to all of your corrections and omissions on the layer of the white worm.
Then Jason will pop by to talk a little bit about Halloween, right?
We're going to talk about how we are celebrating our spooky season.
We're also going to look back on the league because right now it is football season.
And that show still has a major.
effect on our lives, especially during this time of year. Plus, we're going to recommend some A-plus
comedy specials and a whole lot more. Plus, as always, at the end of the show, I will reveal the movie
that we'll be covering on next week's episode. All right. Now, I've mentioned this a few times.
June and I are doing a brand new improvised multicam. We are doing it in front of a live studio audience
here in Los Angeles. And we have already shot our first few shows.
but if you want to be in the audience to see one of these shows,
there is still time October 7th, 10th, 16th, 21st, and 24th.
All you have to do is RSVP to Dinks, that's D-I-N-K-S, Dinks-R-SvP at Gmail.com.
That's Dinks, R-SvP at Gmail.com.
Just say, hey, I want to go see the show on the 7th, the 10th, the 16th, the 21st, or the 24th,
whatever you want to do.
And we would love to have you.
Oh, we've got great guest stars in the show.
show, it is going to be a blast.
Now, if you like scary stuff, the movie that I did many years ago called Slice with Chance
the Rapper is now on Netflix.
Yeah, it's a really fun, weird vampire ghost film with Zazi Beats, me, Chance the Rapper.
It's a lot of fun.
Check it out.
It's on Netflix.
And another movie on Netflix that stars June.
And I also have a brief cameo is Stop That Train, the Rupal film that I,
I can only describe as airplane on a train.
I mean, it is so funny, so unique, so well-acted.
I really am a huge fan.
I'll stop that train.
Both of them on Netflix, so get at it.
And by the way, I know I can't talk about it here, but Unspooled has started a brand new
YouTube channel, and you should definitely check it out.
Our first video has a ton of views already.
We talked about weapons.
Why don't you check it out and see what you think.
Now, enough about all that stuff.
because we have a big, big issue in front of us.
And that issue is the layer of the white worm.
Things that we might have gotten wrong, things that we didn't put together.
We had questions and you seemingly have a lot of answers and also more questions and also things that we definitely missed.
Anyway, this is a chance for all of us to set the record straight.
It is now time for corrections and omissions.
favorite thing about a movie we watched and we didn't mention it.
So you're real pissed off.
We fucked up.
We suck.
So now you're here to tell us everything.
Corrections.
Corrections.
Homonym.
Once again for that theme song.
Wow.
Coming in hot.
All right.
Let's go to the Discord.
Johnny Unusual, writes,
I know the focus of the catering at the party was on the earthworms in Aspec, but the entire meal
looks absolutely bonkers.
It feels like it belongs.
in a Tim Burton movie with everything being slime green, raw dead octopi.
I mean, there's even a fishhead prominently displayed in the middle.
And it's funny to me that Capaldi is only grossed out by the earthworms and enjoys
the rest of the food.
The entire meal is stomach churning from the get-go.
You know, Johnny, great call out there.
You can take a look at the picture of the disgusting display of food on our Discord.
It's gross.
It reminds me of Indiana Jones, the Temple of Doom, right?
But then, every now and then, like we said in the show, they might just be that they are.
They're from the UK.
I don't know.
Tell me, people, is this what we're eating or is this pushing the limits?
I know that you're going to say, Paul, you eat it.
And then I have to say to you, I'm joking.
I'm joking, people.
And that's the best thing to say after a joke.
I'm joking.
Anyway, money not made says Paul said that Bram Stoker's Dracula was an influence on
Ken Russell, but didn't mention that the layer of the white worm is actually a Bram Stoker novel.
This explains why everything seems old-fashioned in the movie because it's a contemporary mashup
and take on the novel's elements.
Okay, well, look, I am only as good as my research, and I think something got, uh, I don't know,
messed up along the way because you are 100% right.
The Lair of the White Worm is a 1911 Gothic horror novel. It is the final work published by Bram Stoker, and it is, I mean, shockingly similar, right? It's about Adam Salt and a young man from Australia who moves to England to connect with his wealthy great-uncle Richard. Adam discovers the area is terrorized by a predatory, shape-shifting ancient creature known as the white worm. And the monster takes a human form of a local aristocrat named Lady Arabella March, and Adam and his
must battle Lady Arabella alongside an eccentric memorist named Edgar Caswell before the creature consumes
to the local community. Now, that actually sounds way better. I mean, look, I'm not going to
diss Ken Russell, but that actually, that plot makes sense. Anyway, thank you, Money Not Made for making
me smarter, and me, I'm going to just have to ratchet down my research people. Oh, you're going to,
see, I'm going to just rip them to shreds. And I'm going to say, Money Not Made, maybe do this.
Stop crying. Money not made, made me do this.
Nestorix wrote, The Hosts were wondering, the hosts.
Why are you so formal, Nestorix?
The hosts.
It seems like you're asking a question at some sort of like town hall.
The hosts were wondering about the payoff involving the tactical mongoose.
It happens quickly, but the dead-blooded mongoose is thrown into Angus's face just as he tries to peek behind the curtain in the finale.
He also loses his glasses at that moment.
only for them to be perfectly positioned in the next shot.
I believe the mongoose comes from Bram Stoker's original novel
in which the main character keeps a pet mongoose to deal with the local snakes.
The white worm disguises a woman, eventually rips it in half when it attacks her.
Now, I knew I saw that mongoose in action,
and just to point out, we did talk about that mongoose being carried around in his kilt.
That was a live mongoose in his kilt while he was plumbus in his kilt.
while he was playing the bagpipes.
It definitely had a lot of questions there.
How do you keep it?
But Smoggy Bubble wrote in to say,
dudes, you didn't even mention the hand grenade
that he pulls out of the kilt.
And I guess my thought is, yeah, didn't think about it.
Didn't think about, I thought that there's some kind of tactical underwear there,
you know, like some sort of garter belt where he could hang grenades off of there.
But you're right, that makes no sense.
But once you see a man pull,
A live mongoose out of a kilt?
You stop asking questions.
At least that's what I do.
Let's go to the phones.
Scott from Maine.
Hey, Paul, you briefly talked about the weird sexy flight attendant dream, but what you might not know is that this isn't the first time Ken Russell has sexualized members of that profession on film.
His 1984 movie Crimes of Passion stars Kathleen Turner as a sex worker who dresses up as a flight attendant as a fantasy for one of her clients.
In the commentary track for that movie, Ken Russell talks about having a thing for.
for flight attendants. You also briefly alluded to my favorite scene in the layer of the white worm,
which is when Hugh Grant stumbles over a drum kit. I was hoping Jason could weigh on this a bit.
Does one typically set up one's drum kit in the bedroom right next to the bed? That's weird,
right? House like that probably has a music room, but he keeps his drums in the bedroom in case what?
He wants to thrash out some paradiddles in the middle of the night. I've probably thought about
this way too much, but is Hugh Grant's drumming what woke up the worm in the first place?
Anyway, love the show.
Hope you guys come back to Maine someday.
Thanks.
Well, Scott, we're going to be back in Maine.
I don't know if we're going to be doing shows,
but June and I go back to Maine every November.
We have some family there.
We love Maine.
We pass by that theater.
Maybe we should do a show there because I think Jason has some family in Maine.
Maybe, Scott, this phone call has put in motion a tour.
Oh, wait.
It's already October.
Probably not.
All right.
Hey, can Russell having a thing for flight attendants?
Yeah.
checks out. Glad that we got some confirmation on that. Look, about Hugh Grant having his drum kit next to his bed.
If, you know, I don't think he's doing two things at once. I think that you're either drumming or you're sleeping.
It's not like he lives with his girlfriend. He's waking her up. I feel like that is a single man thing.
You put your drum kit next to your bed, just like stepbrothers. You know, it's like it's just there for you to just go to town on.
but I like your point.
I believe he did wake her up.
That horrible drumming,
that bass drumming, that bass drum did the deed.
Scott, you've cracked the case.
Next up, John Steele.
Hi, Paul.
I wanted to say thank you for bringing this incredible movie into my life.
My wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly,
and we'll be watching it every spooky season from now on.
I know you guys had some comments about the white granny panties.
That was another scene where the actor was supposed to be naked.
And last minute, she felt uncomfortable.
So they clothed her, assuming in whatever they had handy.
I'm sure if they had more time, maybe they would have given her something better.
But I just wanted to share that little tidbit.
Thank you.
Okay.
creepy well not creepy look here's the thing here's the victory uh an actress was uncomfortable
and she wasn't made to be more uncomfortable so he gave her white granny panties and oddly made us
more uncomfortable anyway way to go ken russell somebody who uh seemingly is very uh beto sexual in
his imagery but willing to say i respect an actor's choice put on those fruit of a looms um
I appreciate that, and it also does make sense because that final image is kind of jarring.
It just feels so weird.
But you know what, Scott also wants to chime in and say that on the topic of underwear,
Ken Russell later said, being of royal lineage, Catherine opted for Herod's Silk.
But as we were a low-budget movie, she had to be content with Marks and Spencer's Cotton.
And very fetching she was, too.
Okay, well, you didn't have to go creepy there.
again, Russell.
But I like that idea that you should add silk on.
That would have been great.
But if you can't afford, all right, hold on.
How much is Herod's underwear?
Now, again, let's see how much that would be.
Herod's silk underwear goes for looks like.
And this is like, let me, I'm going to make sure it's a women's underwear.
Thanks for bearing with me as I'm just typing away here.
I mean, like 200 bucks?
Not crazy.
And that's with inflation.
I mean, all right, we'll see.
I can't get on for the underwear.
It's for the final scene.
All right, enough about underwear here.
Let's go to our next caller.
Who is this?
Oh, Jake.
Hey, guys, not really a correction,
more of a context thing that I thought was really interesting.
I am actually in the midst of directing the production of Dracula
at my local community theater,
and I had been doing a ton of research into Bram Stoker,
and you still kind of like a mysterious figure even today,
but a lot of scholars of his really believe that sexual anxiety is a theme prevalent through most of his books.
And obviously, Dracula being the most famous one,
but there's a lot of different homoerotic relationships there or the way that the attacks are depicted
are meant to resemble very sexual acts or evoke that kind of imagery.
and that layer of the white worm seemed to be of all of his other books,
the next one that really speaks to that, of course, the worm itself being this very phallic symbol.
So I think in a weird way, as surreal as the imagery in Ken Russell's adaptation is,
I think it's actually very faithful to the themes that Stoker was trying to convey,
obviously just in a very, very different way.
So that was all.
I hope you guys are doing great.
I love the show.
Well, Jake, I hope you have break a leg in this production.
And I love that you're doing a production around spooky season.
I love this.
And I have nothing to add more than, wow, interesting.
I've never really heard that sexual anxiety.
And I feel like this movie is full of that.
And I imagine the book probably a lot more.
Maybe in many respects, Ken Russell is the perfect person to kind of pull it all together
because he actually really leans into that.
Whereas I feel like most, you know, Bram's,
stoker things lean into the sex, but not that anxiety part.
I feel like that, this movie does definitely have elements of that too.
Anyway, way to go, Jake, break a leg.
And finally, Marlene from Mexico City.
Hi, guys, I just wanted to talk about the scene where her ladyship wears this
earplux to avoid being hypnotized, rather suited by the backpack.
June mentions that this is like a snake's charmer scenario.
The flute that June mentions, it's actually called a pangy.
But the thing is that rather are deaf to airborne instruments.
So music shouldn't be affecting her ladyship at all.
Anyways, thank you for bringing this movie.
It's absolutely bonkers.
I loved it.
I love how psychedelic it is, how fun.
Thank you very much, guys.
I love that you'd call her Lady Sylvia like that.
Now, this is interesting.
The way that you, first of all, I love the new phone system.
Everyone sounds so crystal clear.
We were trying to figure out exactly what is true about this.
You are saying that Lady Sylvia shouldn't have had earplugs because snakes can't hear music.
But then Scott, he did research and he said that, yes, you are correct.
Snakes don't have external.
ears so they can't hear music played by a snake charmer's flute. Snake charming works through the visual
tracking and defensive reactions rather than musical hypnosis. Snakes follow the swaying movement
of the charmer's instrument and sense the ground vibrations caused by the charmer's physical
movements. Holy shit. People, we learned a lot here from Herod's underwear to snake charming and
sexual imagery and anxiety.
This is the greatest crop of corrections and emissions we've gotten in a long time.
Now, back to the Discord for a couple more, a little pieces of snake info.
Corgi Herder writes, I'm pretty sure Lady Sylvia uses a tanning bed, not to tan,
but because she is, like other snakes, cold-blooded, and benefits from UV lighting.
You know what?
I met somebody today who pulled me aside to tell me this.
and if anyone walked by our conversation, it must have sounded insane.
I love this.
I love all of this.
And I have to say that there are so many great ones here,
so many perfect little details that make this movie so worth it.
But I have to say the thing that I'm walking away with,
and I know that she's only half of the equation here,
but I believe today's winner is Marlene from Mexico City because she taught me something I never knew.
I mean, Scott taught me the second part, but she set him up.
So I feel like, Marlene, you can win.
And you know, a lot of listeners wrote to us asking how Peter Capaldi fit so many strange items in his kilt.
So for your prize, Marlene, we are gifting you the most versatile item in Scottish fashion.
I am, of course, talking about the Kapaldi cargo kilt.
That's right.
What's so special about this one?
Well, cue up the bagpipes, because I'll tell you.
The Capaldi cargo quilt has the largest hidden pockets of any kilt on the market.
Now, you can show up your Scottish pride without worrying where to store your common belongings like phones, keys, Wallace, hayrenades, or feral mongooses.
And no, the plural form of mongoose is not mongese.
Trust me, I looked it up, using the large print hardcover dictionary that fit discreetly in the pocket of my Capaldi cargo kilt.
And please know that while this kilt offers ample storage, it will not prevent getting your dick bit off by an immortal snake priestess.
So enjoy.
Well, Marlene, I hope you enjoy that, and I can't wait to hear about all the items that you store in your kilt, animals or just simply grenades or weapons, whatever you want.
Again, it can hold everything.
And for everybody else who didn't win that Koppel de cargo kilt, well, guess what?
There's always a chance to try next week.
That's right.
Every new episode, we have a brand new prize.
And you can leave us a voicemail at speakpipe.com slash hd-tgm.
I love that.
Speakpike.com slash HDTGM.
You can just do it right there on your computer or write us on our Discord.
Coming up after the break, Jason will stop by to chat with me about Halloween season
and recommend his favorite new stand-up special.
So stick around.
Welcome back, everybody.
Before Jason joins me, I must remind you to tune into.
our classic episodes that we release every Tuesday. This week's classic episode was the Kate
Beckinsale vampire flick Underworld Blood Wars. And next week, we will be re-releasing our episode on
Halloween 3 Season of the Witch, which, fun fact, was our first ever episode without a guest.
Oh, wow, look at that. Some of you love it. Some of you don't love it. And that's what I love
opinions. So keep on checking out all of our replays of classic episodes every Tuesday.
And now, without any further ado, it is time for Mr. Jason Manzoukis to join the show.
And of course, you might be asking yourself, why was Jason popping in?
Well, he's here to Just Chat.
Tom McWaters, hit the theme.
We're going to have ourselves a conversation.
Just chat.
No quarantine or vaccination.
Just chat.
Paul and Jason a couple of cats.
Just chat.
Just chat, just chat
Shubby do
Boo-p-p-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-boo.
Hey, here we go.
You know what?
Listen, we're coming up on spooky season.
We started doing spooky movies.
It's scaring the hell out of me.
Are you like God?
Is that a thing that you ever go to?
Like, will you go?
Like, I have been trying to get June to watch obsession,
which I think is such a fun.
I will watch stuff, but I don't love
horror, like as a genre,
horror is not one of my
go-to moves. But
when something is like
an incredible, like an obsession,
a hereditary,
something that really, you know,
burns up, I'll, I'll, of course,
see it, but I'm not out here, like,
just going through all the...
Right, you're not like, I have to get... No. Yeah, I'm
with you. I mean, I will tell you that
some of the most fun I've had,
I don't know if this is considered a horror
is like in Sam Ramey things, but like,
send help the new one that just came out i didn't see it yeah oh it's so fun it's like yeah because it's
like sam ramy like and i think that's why i like obsession too because it's like it's it's scary but in the
right way where i'm like i'm laughing it's good like it's there's a there's a little bit more than just
a cool premise and great kills yeah and it's not just like slasher or gory or what used to be kind of the
the the torture porny the like the hostels and it's not that kind of that never got into that same
That stuff I just couldn't deal with.
So I feel like it really takes something to kind of break through and feel like it has like a foot in some other genre.
Yeah.
That gets me kind of going on it.
So, yeah.
But boy, thank God in this spooky season, there's a lot of great other stuff to be tempering all this scary stuff with.
I mean, you got to.
We can't be just out here so scared, Paul.
No, we can't.
I mean, you can't do it.
Have you?
Have you?
put up, will you put up your big giant skeleton this year?
Okay. The answer is yes and yes. And I'll tell you this, which is really interesting.
And I thought one of the coolest things that's ever happened, our next door neighbor, they moved.
And they are lovely people, but when they moved, they put a clause in the selling of their house that the people who are living there must put up their giant skeleton as well, 12 foot skeleton.
Because people maybe don't know or maybe they do.
Yeah.
You, in conjunction with your neighbors, do a tableau of gigantic skeletons.
It is up to three.
We're hoping this year to get it up to four.
It is something that obviously I drive into my house every day or, you know, hopefully every day.
You're right into the house.
I drive straight into the house.
Just jackass style like a bull, just going right through the front window.
And but it scares me all the time.
Coming home at night.
Because it's like I turn the corner and I start to see the skeleton.
It is a shocking look to see them.
I love them.
But I love that our neighbors and our new neighbors who we haven't even met that much,
but they know that they have to.
That is so funny to me.
I love that.
They have to be a part of it.
Fantastic.
What a great thing.
What a great thing to have as a part of your like the buying a house.
Yes.
And you're like to tell your friends, well, the only thing is I've got to participate in this Halloween tradition.
You got to do it.
And like, what's your neighborhood like?
I don't think we've talked about your neighborhood.
My neighborhood is very, so my neighborhood does not have sidewalks.
Okay.
So it is not very much, it's not a pedestrian.
So there's not a lot of, there's very few people who decorate and do stuff.
It's not a neighborhood-y neighborhood in that regard.
You kind of have to go a ways away to get into those kind of streets.
So it's not very Halloween, I'll say.
So you're not getting kids knocking on your door.
No, never.
You know, now we, I will tell you that, unfortunately, for the first couple of years, I always would say to June, it's like, June, can we go to like a populated neighborhood?
We'll go get, the kids will like it.
And June's like, no, we're doing it here in our neighborhood.
Now, I will say, we have an area where there are sidewalks and then it stops.
Yeah.
And we were hitting up those houses with no sidewalks for candy on Halloween.
And it was not going well.
It was giving people a tremendous amount of guilt.
Yes.
They open the door.
They don't have anything.
and then they're just going in their cupboard and just grabbing things.
And it felt so bad.
So we finally got June off of that.
I'm like, June, we can't do this.
Well, in L.A. here, and this is, I mean, I'm sure this exists other places as well.
But there are whole neighborhoods in L.A. that are shut down so that they can be pedestrian walkways.
Yes.
And have no cars, no nothing to create safe environments for kids to.
So people will frequently drive to a neighborhood to trick or treat in that neighborhood because it's safe.
Only a couple blocks away from me is one of those neighborhoods.
And it has caused such anxiety with me because what I'm doing is I'm walking in to this area with like probably four to five kids because my sons are bringing their friends.
And there's a handful of adults.
But then you're releasing, it's like releasing four ants into an ant colony.
It's like keep your eyes on these ants.
It's like it is a constant distraction.
It's just kids.
Oh, and they're dressed up.
as different carry.
They don't look like they normally look.
And they're just,
and they're up in people's,
you know,
they're on staircases and down the thing.
And you can't find them
and everyone's looking at the same time.
And then some people will bump into you,
like that you know,
and then you're talking to them
and they take your eye off your kid.
It was way more stress-free knocking on people
that just were like rummaging through shelves
giving us extra candy bars.
But yeah,
it is a nightmare.
But my friends live in one of those houses,
as we both have a friend who lives in one of those houses
where they have to buy like,
like 100 pounds of candy because it's it's just hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people
come through because it's one of these designated neighborhoods that's just shut down for trick or
treating so hundreds of people show up.
Probably thousands by the end of the night.
Do you enjoy anything on Halloween?
Like I don't know you as a Halloween.
So you're just like you're not going.
I would rather.
I would I'll go out to dinner.
I'm not.
That does not count as a Halloween activity.
Not that I'm, I feel like, you know.
You're not a curmudgeon.
Like I, like you're not.
I'm a bit of a curmudgeon in that regard.
You know what I mean?
Like I,
I feel like I don't really participate in Halloween.
There have been years in the past where I've gone like with a group to someone,
to someone's house to do to give out gifts or not to give out candy and hang out as a group
activity.
I like that.
I like, but I don't do anything at my house.
Got it.
Okay.
No, no.
Yeah.
But I mean, but I don't know if you're like one of those people like, oh, I live to get dressed up on
Halloween or go to the party.
Yeah.
Not at all.
Not at all.
I feel like, and maybe this is, I've never been a Halloween person.
You know what I mean?
In terms of, now, I don't have kids because I feel like that's a big part of it.
A big part of it.
Even years ago, and it was like, and maybe it's because we get to dress up and be goofy in our normal lives a lot.
But, like, Halloween was never, Halloween and New Year's Eve are my least favorite, like, nights.
I couldn't agree with you more.
You and I have spent a few New Year's Eve's together, and I love that version of it, which is just.
a hangout.
That's what I want to do.
I don't need to go blow it out.
Oh, yeah.
And the same thing I want to like, I want to do like a game night or a dinner night.
I just want to be having measured evening.
Can I tell you something?
You know, I do like going to the theme parks.
That's, that's like the haunted nights.
And I've been to that in the past with you guys.
Yeah.
To universal horror nights.
And, and, you're like, now I will tell you that one of the things I used to love there was this,
Bill and Ted's, it was a very interesting thing.
It was a Bill and Ted's like a stage show.
A stage show, not even a stunt show, a stage show where they did pop culture material.
And it was canceled because it was so foul that it was racist, misogynist.
Oh, yeah, they, there are like some jokes.
We were talking about this the other day.
And I was like, I went online and looked, I shouldn't even repeat it in a public space,
but I went online and just repeated some of the jokes that were in there.
and you're like, oh, my God.
First of all, it doesn't make sense.
And it's like, it is, it's bad.
It's bad newsbears.
But now they cancel it because it's Universal Studios.
They couldn't do it.
But the one place that continues to have this is not scary farm.
Yes.
Right?
So this year, and I took a picture of this, it really killed me.
Their show is called noose maxing.
So noose maxing is the name of the show.
No.
Guys.
And in big letters, it says, not for everyone.
And then they include a letter.
And this is what they say on the bottom of it.
That was dumb.
That was so dumb.
It was like, here's a pop culture reference.
Pop culture reference.
It was like they were trying to do SNL, but it was written for two-year-olds.
It wasn't offensive.
It was nothing.
It was just a nothing burger.
It was memorember berries.
It was a nothing burger.
All the people there, their town,
but it wasn't dumb.
It was bad.
That's the review that they put on the sign for noose maxing.
So they're leaning in.
They're quoting.
It says, idiot on YouTube.
Now, I know this idiot on YouTube.
This is our friend Peter, or not our friend,
but somebody we like from Slash Film, formerly from Slash Film,
Peter Satera, not the musician.
But, like, so they took his review of noose maxing and put it on their signs.
Oh, my God.
And I have a feeling that people are leaving so angrily because it's like it is so bad that they now are advertising that it is, it is not good.
It's so bad that you will want to like, you know, troll it.
And it's like, it's not even like, it's so offensive.
I could stand it's like it's basically saying it's not even, it's not even very funny.
And I just love that these are like I remember like the joke that I think I can repeat here is just stuff like somebody farts real bad.
And it's like, oh no, Kung Fu Panda, he must eat Kong Pow chicken.
Like that was the level of like jokes that you're getting in.
That's very good, though.
So I, uh, wow.
But now what has been fun is, because it's harder for me to like organize those bigger groups.
I'm bringing my kids to them.
And now I'm going to be the adult in the group.
I kind of need like an adult with me, but I'm just like adult supervising kids.
And it is really, really fun because most.
of them are afraid to go into the haunted mansion.
So now I'm just, or the mazes, and now I'm just hanging outside with a 12-year-old,
just shooting the shit for 45 minutes.
What a riot.
Oh, that's fun as hell, though.
I get that.
It is a fun, new, like, stage of, will you guys do a family costume?
No.
Or every, it's everybody for themselves.
My one son is Oliver Tree.
Okay.
My other son is Bob Ross.
Okay.
And that's...
Both strong hair choices.
Yes.
that's that is what we have got and my son is not even a fan of Oliver tree but he
oddly gets obsessed with people who die tragically so I think that he is like he is he is a fan
of Oliver tree and he so now he knows a lot about Oliver tree because he's like researched it and
and is passionate about it and he feels so bad about and then he also and this is what I see that
gets me so worried is every now and then he'll say like do you think he faked his death and I'm
like he did not he's like well there's something I read online I was like Gus
You can't.
We're not doing that.
Like there's a little bit.
I was like, I'm starting to see the scene to the internet sneak in.
And I'm like, I got to nip this in the butt.
But I'll talk it out.
I won't make him feel dumb.
Sure, sure, sure.
Let's discuss this.
Yeah.
It'll be the reason.
Of course.
Oh, my God.
That is crazy.
Now you have been, your football season for you.
So you're just fully.
Oh, man.
You know what I'm going to say is crazy?
is, so I just was in New York City for a couple of days
and had a couple of beautiful,
it's starting to be fall in New York.
Oh, the best.
So I was walking around, walked like 20,000 steps one day.
And the still frequency with which people scream
Rafi or Rafi bomb at me on the street
for a show that we were in together called The League
some 15 plus years ago.
That show still has such,
and these were young,
people. These weren't people our age who watched it 15 years ago. These were like 25 year olds.
No. No. I mean, Raffybom. I was like, wow. Especially during this time. Yeah.
You know, yeah, my gosh. So we ended that show 11 years ago. Oh my God. That's wild to me.
So it started 16, 17 years ago. Yeah. Started 2009. Holy cow. Yeah. So it is 84 episodes. But people
watch it, especially around this time. This is the time where I feel like it is hot.
The streets are ready. And I'm assuming it's because it's the lead up to football season.
Yeah. People still doing, is fantasy football still as big as it was? Because I feel like when
we were doing that show, fantasy football was exploding. Oh, well, now it is not only it, it's,
it exploded. It is out there. But now Polly Market has made it. Right. So now it's like bedding and
sleeper app and all this. I'm in four leagues currently. You are. Oh, wow.
I'm still in leagues and much to my chagrin on some of them.
I just like to have one.
But I'm in a great one, which is a hilarious league that involves Adam Pally, Scott Armstrong, Matt Bessor, Jerry O'Connell, and oddly Ron Livingston, Chris Kula, and a handful of other people, and Matt Walsh.
And that's a fun one because it's a lot of shit talking and every single person and it also gets very upset about the shit talking.
Like I've seen Riggle get upset
I've seen Jerry get upset
I've seen Scott get upset
They're all like
What do they mean it?
Like it's like
It gets past a point
Oh
Like I want time
It's like shit talking to best
And he's like
Oh I'm trying to do the best I can
I'm like
Oh my God
I'm not I'm not
I'm not
I was like I can't do this
I can't
I can't
Too sensitive
We're too sensitive
We're too sensitive
Of a group of guys
Oh that's funny
But the only person
Who does not ever comment
is Rob Cordry, who is in there and wins all the time.
Oh, really?
Winning all the time to say...
But doesn't participate in any of the nonsense.
Baird of draft doesn't...
Funny.
The texts are coming all the time.
Never weighs in on a text.
Never see him poppy.
It's one of my favorite.
A ghost guy.
For a while, it was Ron.
Ron's like, oh, I'm kind of the odd man out in this group.
And no, Ron is full...
Ron's making videos.
Oh, yeah, he's doing the whole thing.
Funny.
But yeah, it is kind of a crazy thing.
thing. I think it's just grown and grown. I think it would be funny to do that show now in the
sense that the betting market of it is so wild. Like it's like, yeah, that really seems like that's
much more the forward facing element of this stuff is that you can bet on all these things.
Did you see what LeBron has been doing? LeBron has signed on to Polly Market, right? And, and now, I guess,
whatever that deal was. I think it's like a, wait, you mean as a to advertise it or as a,
Yeah.
Right?
So, like, they're saying that he will basically make four times more from
Polymarket than playing for the 76ers, right?
So he is...
As a spokesman?
Yes.
Or, like, actually making bets?
Well, no, as a spokesman.
Okay, okay.
So he basically got a $15 million deal.
And it's crazy because what he has to do.
And this is the thing that's kind of, look, $15 million dollars on this sneeze at.
LeBron's got to pay, you know, gas, electricity bills.
He's got a lot of stuff.
He got to, you know, he's got to pay those car insurance.
Oh, absolutely.
So, but I guess it probably sounded really good in theory.
He's got to make videos every week where he gives his picks.
So he is on a couch and they CGI out his background.
They give him like a computer-generated background.
I'm like, okay, so I'm thinking Kansas City Chiefs and I'm thinking this.
Oh, no.
And he's got to go through the whole thing.
And it is, it is cringe-worthy to watch a superstar athlete.
who is still an amazing player to watch,
not past his prime at all,
to sit on a couch and be like,
all right,
so I'm like...
I mean,
that's crazy to me
that someone at that level
would be doing,
would be stuck doing weekly ads.
That's shocking.
$15 million.
It's like,
okay,
for every week of the football season,
you have to give us your picks.
And I guess at a certain point
there's a guy,
who cares?
But it was shocking
because I thought it was AI.
I was like watching it.
I was like,
this can't be him.
This is not him.
Right.
It can't be him.
What a bummer.
It is, yeah.
So that is, I mean.
Everybody's doing everything.
Yeah, it does.
And I don't think that there's any, I mean, look, I think there's a little bit of negativity that he's, he's a professional athlete who is, is, is coming out and doing professional.
It's really nuts.
I mean, the, the amount of people who are doing ads for betting or crypto or all this stuff, I'm just like, what, what is this?
You know?
It really feels like the.
Our friend Owen calls it the smash and grab era of humanity.
It's like, I don't know if Hollywood's going to be here anytime long,
I got to take this money and go.
I got to, I got to get these mucinex bucks.
I got, I was very happy to report that, speaking of sports,
I went on Pablo Torres show last week where I got to,
Pablo Tori brought down the clippers.
I don't know if you've been following this story.
Oh, yeah, wait.
Are you still writing checks to Kauai?
I was feeding him a little bit of money on the side, a little bit of how to just get made money.
Aren't you impressed that I knew even those specifics?
Do you know how long I've been holding onto that to say some version of that joke to you on Mike?
Oh, I am so happy that you did.
I had to have the whole Clippers thing explained to me.
This has been a real dark period of time.
And so I was questioning of Pablo's report.
I just wanted to say, let's, like, I don't want to cast aspersions until the final verdict is in.
Let's let the chips fall whether they may.
And turns out he was 100% right.
And, uh, and probably didn't even touch upon a lot of the darker things that we're hearing each day.
So, um, but yeah, so we went on there.
And if, if you are interested in my take on the Clippers, uh, with the reporter who brought
down the Clippers, uh, definitely check out me on Pablo Tori for now.
We had a great time.
He's a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist.
And I felt like I was going into the Lions Den to face a man who I never said anything negative about him.
But I did have some opinions about his reporting.
But I tried to man it up and get in there.
Great.
I like it.
Jason.
Oh, I'll mention just you're mentioning stuff that you were on that show.
You and I were both recently on the 10th anniversary, Chris Geppard.
Dumpster episode.
Yes.
Dumpster episode reunion that is now a.
available on YouTube for people to watch.
It looks great and it's really fun to watch.
And if you have not watched it yet, but that one's a hard one to watch because you're not hard to watch, but you wouldn't have seen it unless you were in the room.
So definitely check that out.
That's a really fun episode.
People have been talking to me about it.
It's the, if you type in Chris Gethard, dumpster 2026, it pops up right there.
First one.
What's the dumpster 10 year anniversary show?
It's on YouTube.
Really, really fun.
And we'll have a link in the show notes as well.
I love Getherd.
So Getherd, we did a show.
You and I did the show last year at this.
Oh, yeah.
So, yes, in San Diego, we did it for mental health.
And Getherd got me on a book that I want to recommend to you.
Oh, yeah.
Jackie Collins's, Hollywood Wives, a book from the 80s.
And it is a, it's the dirtiest book I've ever read in my life.
I've been listening to it and also reading it.
And I'm blushing.
Is it fiction or nonfiction?
It is fiction.
Fiction.
And it is just a book where if you're not hearing the word, breast, erection, sex,
fuck blowjob on a page, then it's like, it's a rarity.
The book is so, like, there's a scene in maybe the first chapter, a woman makes herself
orgasm in a yoga class because the floor is so hard in the yoga class.
Oh my God.
It is so dirty.
It is so, so dirty.
So anyway, I love it.
I think you'll like it.
Anything else we should tell people to check out?
I'll shout out some comedy specials just because I feel like.
Like there's been a, there's, I will say in the past couple of years, I feel like both comedy movies and specials, I feel like there's been a little bit of a dearth of great stuff to recommend.
And already this year, I mean, we've been saying, shouting out so many great comedies this year that have come out.
Movies, I've mentioned in the past.
I thought one of the best movies of the year for me is Maddie's secret, the genre of the movie.
Yes. Yes.
There's some, the dink, I think, is.
Really fun.
Sean Clements is a friend of the show wrote The Dink, So Funny.
not to be confused with your TV show called The Dink.
No, Dinks, yeah.
Dinks.
But there's some great specials.
Nish Kumar, phenomenal British comedian.
That special is hilarious.
Nish Don't Kill My Vibe is available on YouTube as well.
Emmy Blotnick special.
What's Her Secret is also on YouTube, 800-pound gorilla.
Fantastic special.
Stavi's new special, Uncle Stavi.
Stavi.
Stavi Halkius is one of the absolute funniest special.
people in the game today.
I think his special is incredible, but he's also just on a spectacular run of podcast guesting
from the New York Times Popcast to, he was just on the King of Comedy episode of the Scorsese
season of Blank Check and did an incredible job.
He's on Pablo Corrie as well.
He's been, oh, nice.
Yeah, he did it right before me.
Great.
So funny.
And then last bit a really funny thing.
Just sorry.
He posted a really funny thing.
It's really funny thing that someone's like, I love the actor who plays Stoppy.
Like, it was like as if that is like a Borat.
And I was like, that is great.
That is perfect.
Stavi is next level.
And it makes me so happy to see Greeks out there.
But then our friend, Rory Scoville, has a new special out called The Show Must Go On and it is dynamite.
Oh, I can't wait to see it.
I didn't even know that came out yet.
Okay, that's great.
It just did.
It just did.
And it's fantastic.
All right.
That's great.
Those are like four specials that I think are all bulletproof.
I think. Emmy Blotnik, Nish Kumar, Rory Scoval, and Stavio Halkius. Incredible stuff.
I love it all. All right, Jason, we'll talk soon. Can't wait.
Thank you, Jason, for just chatting with me. And reminder, if you can't remember the name of something that Jason and I recommended, just check the show notes for a full list of everything we mentioned. It's right there in the show notes. Okay, people, it's the end of the show, which means it is now finally time to announce our next movie. Next week, we will be going from a worm-colored white to a birthday filled with.
fright. That's right next week. We are watching the
1981 teen-slash-er
movie Happy Birthday to Me starring
Melissa Sue Anderson and
Glenn Ford. Yep,
you heard me right. IMDB's breakdown
of the plot goes like this. At
the snobby Crawford Academy,
Virginia's group of friends start to go missing
years after horrible
events that happened to her as a child
around her birthday. Well, guess
what? Spoiler alert, because
that is not part of the plot
until the last two minutes.
Anyway, Rotten Tomatoes gives this film a 29% score on the tomato meter.
And Alan Jones from Starburst magazine says there's only one line on the poster of Happy Birthday to Me that you should take very seriously.
Pray you're not invited.
You know what?
Honestly, Alan is right.
But let's take a listen to the trailer.
Poor Virginia.
Just when the rich young snobs at Crawford High condescended to come to her birthday party.
They're all being murdered in the most bizarre ways imaginable.
No one will be seated during the last 10 minutes of happy birthday to me.
Pray you are not invited.
Rated R.
You can stream Happy Birthday to Me on Fubu TV and Sony Pictures Core.
