Episode number 17.
Explorando los Rinkones of Barcelona.
Welcome back to immersive Spanish.
As you know from the last episode,
I went to watch Barcelona Football Club
play a home game at the Camp No.
It was an exciting game,
and in the end they won three goals to one.
Now, join me as I walk through the busy streets of Barcelona.
The word for street in Spanish is
Kalle. Kalle.
So, streets are
Kalles. Kaya is spelt with two L's.
In Spanish, we pronounce two L's as a Y sound.
But this actually varies.
In Argentina, they pronounce two L's as J.
In Colombia, it's pronounced like a...
like a ja. So Kaya would be Kajee. Have this in mind as I tend to pronounce the
double L like Jha. Kajee. Anyway, Khage is a feminine word so we say la Kaje or las
kajis. Today let's dive into the heart of this beautiful city and discover
some lesser-known treasures. I'm strolling through the charming streets of El
El Raval, an eclectic neighborhood in Barcelona.
El Raval is famous for its vibrant street art, colorful murals and unique blend of cultures.
In Spanish, to say street art,
Callejero.
With that being said, how do you think we say street food?
Comida Cagherera.
Art is a masculine noun, so we say, Arte Callejero.
ending in an O.
Comida, food, is a feminine noun.
So we say,
Comida,
Cajeera, ending in an A.
Anyway, ah, this is a narrow alley.
Wow, there's a hidden courtyard filled with blooming vines.
It's a tranquil oasis amidst this bustling city.
In Spanish, we'd call it
One oasis tranquilo.
That's basically the same as the English, so it's easy to remember.
Let's keep walking.
I've just spotted a quaint cafe.
It's called A Rincon de los Savores.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods fills the air.
It's a perfect spot to practice some Spanish phrases and order a delicious treat.
Buenos Dias.
What recommendes today?
This means, good morning.
What do you recommend today?
Let me say that once more.
Buenos days.
What recommendas?
She just told me this.
Te recommendo our coffee with churros.
Are the best of Barcelona.
Do you know what she just said?
I'll repeat.
Repito.
She said, I recommend our coffee with churros.
She said,
I recommend you our coffee with churros.
They are the best in Barcelona.
Ah, okay, perfecto,
Grazieira, quesiera, a coffee with some churros, for favor.
Quisiera is another way of ordering something.
It means I would like.
You can also say,
I want
both are fine
but this is just another way of asking
Quanto
costa
6 euros
Grazie
I'm going to go sit down
To say this in Spanish
You would say
I'm going to
Sentarm me
I'm going to seat myself
There are some locals in here
To be honest
It's great to get away from native
English speakers for a bit
I'm going to go over to the locals at the bar and strike up a conversation.
I'll ask them where they recommend me to visit in Barcelona, but where the locals would go.
Remember, people in Spain and Latin America are, I would say, much warmer and accommodating to people learning their native language.
A bit of effort goes a long way over here.
You need to get over your fears of making mistakes and just go for it.
Ready?
Pardon, my
name is Kav
and I am
from
Englander
I'm here
in Barcelona
of vacations
can
recommend me
some places
to visit
in Barcelona
from the
point of

my name is
Kav
and I'm from
England
my
name is Kav
and I'm here
I'm here in Barcelona on vacation.
I'm here in Barcelona
de vacations. Can you recommend me some places to visit
in Barcelona from the point of view of a local?
Can you recommender me
some places to visit in Barcelona
from the point of view of a local?
Let me say that again, but a bit slower.

from the

they are more
than happy
to share their
recommendations
for exploring
Barcelona like a local
Here are some of their
tips
They told me
to visit the Barrio Gautico. But this is the Gothic quarter that I already know very well.
I'm there every day as it's where I've been staying. Where else?
Visita a Montserrat. Ah, they told me that a day trip to Montserrat is a must. I can take a train
from Plaza de Espania and enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain range. Here they have lots
of hiking and walking in the mountains. I actually
I actually love the sound of that.
I think I'll go there later today.
I mean, I've got nothing else planned.
Whilst we're on the topic of nature,
I may as well teach you some useful words to do of nature.
I think I've taught you this one already,
but nature in Spanish is
Natraleza.
This is a feminine word, so we say
La,
Naturaleza.
It's called the word natural,
so just add an eza.
and Eza, easy A.
Naturalesa.
Flower is
flor.
To remember this, think of a florist.
La flor.
One more time.
La
Flore.
Mountain in Spanish is
Montagna.
La Montaña.
To remember this, think of the state of Montana
in America,
which was named,
for its mountains.
Montaña.
River is Rio.
This is a masculine word,
El Rio.
Think of Rio de Janeiro,
the river of genero.
Sea is
Mar.
El Mar.
We've already learned that the word
marisco is seafood.
So just take the first part of that word
to get mar.
The mar.
Star is Estrella.
La Estrella.
Think of the Spanish beer Estrella, which is very popular in England at least.
Air is Aire.
This one is also very easy.
Just add an E on the end.
Or think of the very famous city of Buenos Aires, meaning the good airs.
Sky is...
Cielo.
The sielo.
Think of the ceiling being high in the sky.
El Scello.
I'm now going to test you on these words.
How do you say the nature?
La Natraleza.
La Naturaleza.
How do you say the flower?
La flor.
La flor.
So how would you say the flowers?
Las flores.
Las flores.
How would you say mountain?
La Montaña.
Remember, think of the state of Montana.
How would you say river?
El Rio.
How would you say?
The sea.
El Mar.
How would you say the star?
La Estrella.
How would you say?
Air.
So how would you say the sky?
El Cielo.
Good work!

thanks to their advice.
Much gracias for the

Now I'm going to
a caminata
at aeus.
Here I said
Muches
for the consejo
A consejo
in Spanish
means a tip
or advice.
It's very commonly
used in Spain
or any Spanish
speaking country.
Ready?
Un consejo.
Un consejo.
Right.
Now it's time for me to head home to prepare some supplies for my hike.
Then I'll head off to Montserrat.
Grazie for escutero.
