Starting point is 00:00:40 Welcome back to immersive Spanish. As you know from the last episode, I went to watch Barcelona Football Club play a home game at the Camp No. It was an exciting game, and in the end they won three goals to one. Now, join me as I walk through the busy streets of Barcelona. The word for street in Spanish is
Starting point is 00:01:04 Kalle. Kalle. So, streets are Kalles. Kaya is spelt with two L's. In Spanish, we pronounce two L's as a Y sound. But this actually varies. In Argentina, they pronounce two L's as J. In Colombia, it's pronounced like a... like a ja. So Kaya would be Kajee. Have this in mind as I tend to pronounce the
Starting point is 00:01:40 double L like Jha. Kajee. Anyway, Khage is a feminine word so we say la Kaje or las kajis. Today let's dive into the heart of this beautiful city and discover some lesser-known treasures. I'm strolling through the charming streets of El El Raval, an eclectic neighborhood in Barcelona. El Raval is famous for its vibrant street art, colorful murals and unique blend of cultures. In Spanish, to say street art, Callejero. With that being said, how do you think we say street food?
Starting point is 00:02:31 Comida Cagherera. Art is a masculine noun, so we say, Arte Callejero. ending in an O. Comida, food, is a feminine noun. So we say, Comida, Cajeera, ending in an A. Anyway, ah, this is a narrow alley.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Wow, there's a hidden courtyard filled with blooming vines. It's a tranquil oasis amidst this bustling city. In Spanish, we'd call it One oasis tranquilo. That's basically the same as the English, so it's easy to remember. Let's keep walking. I've just spotted a quaint cafe. It's called A Rincon de los Savores.
Starting point is 00:03:29 The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods fills the air. It's a perfect spot to practice some Spanish phrases and order a delicious treat. Buenos Dias. What recommendes today? This means, good morning. What do you recommend today? Let me say that once more. Buenos days.
Starting point is 00:03:56 What recommendas? She just told me this. Te recommendo our coffee with churros. Are the best of Barcelona. Do you know what she just said? I'll repeat. Repito. She said, I recommend our coffee with churros.
Starting point is 00:04:19 She said, I recommend you our coffee with churros. They are the best in Barcelona. Ah, okay, perfecto, Grazieira, quesiera, a coffee with some churros, for favor. Quisiera is another way of ordering something. It means I would like. You can also say,
Starting point is 00:04:46 I want both are fine but this is just another way of asking Quanto costa 6 euros Grazie I'm going to go sit down
Starting point is 00:05:00 To say this in Spanish You would say I'm going to Sentarm me I'm going to seat myself There are some locals in here To be honest It's great to get away from native
Starting point is 00:05:20 English speakers for a bit I'm going to go over to the locals at the bar and strike up a conversation. I'll ask them where they recommend me to visit in Barcelona, but where the locals would go. Remember, people in Spain and Latin America are, I would say, much warmer and accommodating to people learning their native language. A bit of effort goes a long way over here. You need to get over your fears of making mistakes and just go for it. Ready? Pardon, my

Starting point is 00:08:46 Mountain in Spanish is Montagna. La Montaña. To remember this, think of the state of Montana in America, which was named, for its mountains. Montaña.

Starting point is 00:09:50 Air is Aire. This one is also very easy. Just add an E on the end. Or think of the very famous city of Buenos Aires, meaning the good airs. Sky is... Cielo. The sielo. Think of the ceiling being high in the sky.
