Hello, Villajeros and Villageras.
Bienvenito to this episode of Emersive Spanish.
You're joining me back at my Airbnb.
Hang on.
Let me turn that down.
And this is, sadly, my final day in La Ciudadena.
Barcelona.
It's been an incredible trip.
One experience
incredible.
But, it's time for my
journey through the Hispanic world
to continue.
Where's next?
I hear you ask.
Well, that's a secret
I'll have to reveal later.
Primero, I need to pack.
Necessito
empacar.
Necessito
Empackar.
So, of course, I'll need my suitcase.
The word for suitcase is...
Maleta.
Maleta.
The suitcase...
Well, do you think it would be El Maleta or La Maleta?
It's La Maleta.
La Maleta.
If you are ever in doubt as to whether the word
word is feminine or masculine, you should look at the last letter. If it ends in an A, there's a good
chance it's a feminine word. If it ends in an O, then there's a good chance it's a masculine word.
To remember this word, Maleta, I think of it sounding quite similar to male eta. It's as if
you're mailing your things as you send them on a trip of yourself. Here it is. This is
suitcase is very handy as it has wheels.
Wheels in Spanish are
Ruedas
Las Ruedas
The wheels
Las Ruedas
To remember this,
I think of a car with some big wheels that are rude
the word las ruas
okay
esora de empacar my
ropa it's time to pack my clothes
is hora
de empacar my ropa
cloves in Spanish
is
ropa
the clothes in Spanish
are
la ropa
it's a singular noun
hence why we say
la ropa
to remember the word
ropa
just imagine a
long brown rope used to hang all your wet clothes.
Ropa.
Next, we have the toothbrush.
El sepio deientes.
El sepio de dientes.
The brush of teeth is how this translates word for word.
Although we don't say dientes in English,
did you know that the word dental and dentees share the same Latin
roots. Next, we have sunscreen, which in Spanish is called Protector Solar. Protector. Solar.
To remember the word Solar, think of solar-powered energy. You know those big panels you see above homes?
Well, think of how much sun they get and how us humans need a protector from all that sun.
Protector Solar.
Next, we have the swimsuit.
The traje de baño.
Traje
P.
Baño.
To me,
Baño kind of sounds like banned.
So I always imagine how in some countries the swimsuit is banned in public.
Trage de baño.
Passport.
Passaporte.
El passaporte.
To remember this, visualize your passport as the key that allows you to pass into different countries.
Pasa boarde.
Next, we have some shoes which I need to pack.
Shoes in Spanish are...
Zapatoz.
Los Zapatos.
Ah, look, I have my 4K camera.
I use this to take some stunning photos.
Can't forget this one.
To say camera in Spanish is
Camara
La camera
This is spelled almost exactly the same in Spanish
But there is no E
Instead there are three A's in the word camera
One more time
La camera
What's this? I've got my map of the city
Not that I've had to use it much
I can thank my phone for that
Anyhow
To say map in Spanish
Just add an A at the end of map
Mapa
Mapa
Easy enough, right
What is a little bit more confusing
though
Is that Mapa is not a feminine word
Despite it ending in an A
I know earlier I told you that words
Ending in an A are usually feminine
But there are some
exceptions and this is one of them so to say the map we say el mapa
Necessi to the map for example. Ah yes I've also got some books to read on the plane
I've only recently started getting into reading but now I find it's a great way to
unwind and improve my memory. A book in Spanish is a
An Libro.
To say the book, you would say El Libro.
To remember the word Libro, you should think about where you find them in abundance.
Just repeat this to yourself.
Libraries are full of libros.
Libraries are full of libros.
Libro library.
Never forget, you can find many libros in the library.
Okay, that's about everything.
Right, I better head to the airport because I don't want to miss my flight.
Ah, I'm going to miss these beautiful streets of the Gothic Quarter.
This may be the last time I see them for a while, but I'll definitely be back.
I do need to take a taxi, and here's one right here.
Uh, hello,
Hola, hello signor.
Ista occupied?
Si?
Ah,
okay, no,
no problem.
The taxi driver just told me
he's currently waiting
for someone else
and he's occupied.
Or as we say in Spanish,
occupied.
But here's another.
Hello,
hola, hola.
Ista occupied?
No, perfect.
Grazie, signor.
Me,
for favor.
Muchis-gracias.
Airport in Spanish is Aeropoerto.
It's very similar to the English way of saying airport, but there are slight differences.
We add an O to the end of both air and port.
So instead of saying air, we say aero.
of saying port we say
puerto
aeropuerto
right
let me test you on some of the things
I taught you earlier whilst packing
how do you say
the clothes
la ropa
la
ropa
remember
think of a long rope
used to hang your clothes on
rope
rope ropa
how do you say
the toothbrush
el sepio
How do you say?
Sunscreen.
Protector solar.
Protector solar.
How would you say?
Swim suit.
Trage de baño.
Trage.
De.
Baño.
How do you say?
Passport.
Passaporte.
El.
Passaporte.
How would you then say shoes?
Zapato's.
How would you say?
Camera.
Camera.
La.
Camera.
How do you say map?
Mapa.
Finally, how do you say book?
Libro.
El Libro.
Ja.
We've arrived.
We've arrived.
We've
We've
We've got
Thank you,
Sir
How much
How cost?
How
cost?
Thirty-six
euros?
Woof
Um,
uh,
uh,
but I don't have sufficient
effective
I'm
Can't pay with
a
Targeta?
Yes.
Well,

Okay,

Ciao.
