Starting point is 00:00:49 After a few drinks, I spotted a beautiful girl sitting alone on the corner of the bar. I then decided to go over and talk to her. Vamos. To say excuse me in Spanish is, Disculpe Disculpe Excuse me in Spanish is Disculpe
Starting point is 00:01:19 Disculpe To ask someone what their name is You say Como te amas How Te You To ask someone what their name is
Starting point is 00:01:39 You say Howe Te Amas Howe Te Amas? Introducing oneself is one of the first things we supposedly learn in Spanish. Yet, this confuses many people, but only because they try to translate directly. Rather, here's how to understand it.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Como te amas? This literally translates to, how do you call yourself? Let's break that down. Como? How? Te is you or yourself, you call. You call. Notice that you don't need to use the word do in Spanish,
Starting point is 00:02:32 which when translated literally to English, sounds strange or even illiterate. Rest assured, this is normal practice. Te is a key pronoun here. Without it, we would be saying, how yamas, which would translate as how do you call? To ask, where are you from in Spanish is De Donde erres.
Starting point is 00:03:02 De, Donde Eres. This literally translates to From where are you? De from from Donde
Starting point is 00:03:17 where Eres. You are Or are you? De Donde erres. To help you remember, think of this as being backwards from English. Instead of asking in Spanish where you are from, it's instead, from where are you? To ask someone, how old they are in Spanish, you say,
Starting point is 00:03:45 Quantos Anos Dienes. Quantos Ayes. This literally translates to How many years do you have? Quantos. How many? Years? Dienes.
Starting point is 00:04:12 You have. Again, notice that you do not need to use the word do. Right. With introductions covered, it's getting a bit loud in here. I want to ask this, Signorita, if she's, you would like to go outside to talk. To say let's go outside, we will say, we will say, vamos afura, and to say to talk, in this case would be, to be, to be, to be, to, ah, let's go outweira, let's go outside to talk. Much calmer out here.
Starting point is 00:05:13 let's go and sit by the shore. To ask, what are you doing here in Barcelona? What is here in Barcelona? What asses here in Barcelona? In Barcelona. What? Aces. Do you do?
Starting point is 00:05:46 Aki. Here. What is here in Barcelona? To ask, where do you? live? Donde vives. Donde where
Starting point is 00:06:11 do you live? To ask, will you give me your number? Me da's your number? Me Dass Tu Numeru Again,
Starting point is 00:06:37 this may seem a bit direct, but But rest assured this is how we request for things in Spanish. We do not use the word will. But let's break this down. The first thing we say here is me, which is the pronoun that denotes who is receiving the action. To better understand this,
Starting point is 00:07:00 let's repeat this sentence without the pronoun. Das tu numero. Das This translates to you give your number. As you can see, the sentence is incomplete. We need the me at the beginning to make clear who is receiving the number. And finally, can I see you again? Puehvertay Otra Ves?
Starting point is 00:07:40 Puedo. Verte. This translates to, can I see you again? Puedo, can I? Verte see you, Otra, another, time. Puedo verte other
Starting point is 00:08:05 other way. Now, let's have a quick run through of everything we've learned tonight. How would you say, excuse me, Disculpe. Disculpe. How would you ask somebody what their name is? How do you ask? How do you ask?
Starting point is 00:08:40 Where are you from? De Donde are you? Donde Eres. How would you ask? How old are you? Quantos a year. How many years?
Starting point is 00:09:05 How would you ask? Shall we go outside to talk? Vamus afura to a blar, we're going, afura,
Starting point is 00:09:26 to how would you ask, what are you doing here in Barcelona? What is here in Barcelona? What is is here in Barcelona. How would you ask?
Starting point is 00:09:57 Where do you live? Donde vives? Donde vives. How would you ask? Will you give me your number? Me das
Starting point is 00:10:17 your number. Me das your number. Can I see you again? Pueverte Otre Otreau?
Starting point is 00:10:45 Verte Otre Otre Bess. How would you say? Excuse me. Disculpe. Disculpe.
Starting point is 00:11:03 How would you ask somebody what their name is? How do you ask? How? T. Yamas. How would you ask? Where are you from?
Starting point is 00:11:24 De Donde erres. De, Donde Eres. How would you ask? How old are you? Quantos a years Tienes?
Starting point is 00:11:42 Quantos a years Tienes. How would you ask? Shall we go outside to talk? Vamos Afwera to
Starting point is 00:11:58 Ablaar. We're. Afwera Abla How would you ask What are you doing here in Barcelona What do you do in Barcelona What is here
Starting point is 00:12:28 In Barcelona How would you ask Where do you live Donde vives Donde Vives How would you ask Will you ask?
Starting point is 00:12:52 Give me your number. Me Das Tu numero. Me Das Tu Numero.
Starting point is 00:13:11 How would you ask? Can I see you again? Pueh Otre Otre Pue Verte Otra
