Starting point is 00:00:00 Season 4, Episode 13, El Dilema. Hello, Villereros. Today, Anna and I are getting ready to head out for some lunch. It's a little bit cloudy here in Madrid, but there's a nice breeze. As soon as Anna gets off the phone, we'll be ready to go. Ah, here she is. Hello, Anna. Ooh, you look a bit nervous.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Kat, Zabbez, you know who was? No. Who? Who? It was the Dr. Ortega, of American Museum of Natural History in New York. Me has offered a work as Visiting Scholar. They're constructing a new cell on the Americas Antigues.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Oh, Anna, that is incredible. Yes, he said that he saw the article about the artifact that we We're we're we're in the laguna of Guatavita and... ...me want to contractar! ...ademas, if I can't start in two two semans,
Starting point is 00:01:06 me pay the visado and the wheloelowl. I've been with living in New York. That's genial, Anna. But... ...in two semanas? ...appenas we've been ...theonest we've been
Starting point is 00:01:22 ...instolars here in Madrid. And we've only various months of contract of this piece.
Starting point is 00:01:29 We have to have to talk well. Yes, you have
Starting point is 00:01:35 right, but New York, the American Museum of Natural History.
Starting point is 00:01:41 We have to go. Vendr with me with me right? No
Starting point is 00:01:46 I see could get a American Anna, and less in
Starting point is 00:01:51 too time but Cap, for favor, busquem the
Starting point is 00:01:55 way From a little, I've I've seened in New York But Anna, a me I'm a manca to live here
Starting point is 00:02:04 in Madrid with you. We have to think it. Well, well then, if you didn't get all of that, Anna has just told me
Starting point is 00:02:15 that on the phone was Dr. Ortega from the American Museum of Natural History in New York. So it turns out, after seeing the news article about the artifact
Starting point is 00:02:26 we found at Lake Guatavita, he's actually offered Anna a job as a visiting scholar to help build a new exhibition on the ancient Americas They even said that if she can get there within the next two weeks they'll pay for her visa and flights I mean I'm really happy for Anna But we've only just set up our new life here in Madrid, you know And I don't want it to end so suddenly and well Honestly I don't
Starting point is 00:02:57 I don't think I'll be able to get an American visa so quickly. We're going to think about it before giving them an answer. I mean, this is crazy. What a quaker, oh, cricky then. Let me, uh, I don't even know. That conversation we just had is running from my head and repeat. Can we, you and I, go over it together? Let me run you through some of the Spanish from this episode.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Anna said, my dream job. which is in Spanish El Travajo de my suenos El Travajo
Starting point is 00:03:41 de my suenos the job of my dreams and then she asked me Do you know who that was? Do you know who it was?
Starting point is 00:03:54 Zabes who who was? Saves Kien Fue To which I responded who was it Kien
Starting point is 00:04:06 Fue? And Anna then said, he offered me a job. Me has offered a job. Me has offered a job. To say the artifact we found would be, The artifact that we found, we'll be, the artifacto that we've found, and I quote, if I can start in two weeks,
Starting point is 00:04:50 which in Spanish would be If I puo Empezae in dos semanas Those words will hold me Si Puedo Empez in
Starting point is 00:05:05 two semanas And to be fair She told me Sienpre I've always dreamed of Sienpre E Soñado
Starting point is 00:05:22 con Well, here's a quick grammar note. In Spanish, we don't dream of things like we do in English. We dream with them. So it's soniard con, not soniard de. So in this example, Anna said, Siamre I soniado con vivir in New York, which means I have always dreamed with living in New York,
Starting point is 00:05:53 which in English would be, I have always dreamed of living in New York. In Spanish, they use the preposition con when dreaming. Whereas in English, we use the preposition of. So again, they would say, Sweno con Vivir instead of Sueño de Vivir. Does that make sense? That's why Anna said, Sienpre, I soniado con vivir in New York.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I have always dreamed with living in New York. Anyway, to end our conversation, I told Anna, we need to think about it. We need to think about it. We have to. Pensacallo. Think about it. We need to think about it. So I mean, hang on.
Starting point is 00:06:54 The reality is really dawning on me now. This might be it. So, let's review everything we learned today anyway. I'll ask you in English. You tried to say it in Spanish. How would you say, the job of my dreams? El Travajo de misseigneos. El.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Travajo De, my, Sueños. And how would you ask, do you know who it was? Saives who was? And how would you ask, who was it?
Starting point is 00:07:49 Quien was it? Quien How would you say he offered me a job? You could say, Me has offered a job. More slowly, Me ah, Offresido
Starting point is 00:08:28 Un... ...a job I've offered a job. How would you say, I can start in two weeks. Puedo to start in two weeks. Puello start in two semanas?
Starting point is 00:09:03 I'll start in two months. Next, how would you say I've always dreamed of? Remember to think of the right preposition. And And that's correct I soniado with And
Starting point is 00:09:33 I soniado con And that's correct The right preposition is con
Starting point is 00:09:42 In Spanish we dream with not of And finally How would you tell somebody We have to think
Starting point is 00:09:52 about it We have to think To Penzallo Tenemos To
Starting point is 00:10:07 Penzalo All right All right Let's listen to this interaction with Anna one more time. Now that we've broken it down in English, see how much more you can catch this time. Starting point is 00:12:02 Since a Niña, I've sonied in New York. Well, Viajeros, now you reviewed
Starting point is 00:12:11 all the Spanish from today's episode, or should I say, from our heavy-hearted conversation, Anna and I
Starting point is 00:12:20 have a lot to discuss. Will she take this job in New York? I mean, I want to be supportive, of course. But will a long-distance relationship work
