I'm finally ready to find a more permanent place to live.

Think about how El Piso is a piece of a building.
An apartment.
El Piso.
Alternatively, you can say,
El Apartamento.
El apartment.
Again, we just add a no to the word apartment.

Note that El Piso is a more common term in Spain, perhaps less so in other Spanish-speaking countries.
But panic not, you will be understood.
Number three, we have the rent, something we have to pay, every month.

Learn these apartment features in Spanish
so you can describe your ideal place.
If you want something furnished,
you want it.
Amwebado.
Amwebado.
So, for example,
an apartment
or a piece
amueblado.
If you want it unfurnished, you would say
Sin amoeblar.
Sin amoeblar.
The bedroom is
La Bidacian.
La abitacion.
Remember to think of
La Bitacion as a habitat
somewhere humans inhabit.
La abitacion.

An alternative way to say the bedroom is
El dormitorio.

Think of a dormitory.

The living room is

One question.

And also
it would be important
to know if

The veranos

Here are some
comfort features
you might want
to know about.
The heating.

Something I would very much like, knowing how hot it gets in Madrid.
And that is...
El Aire Aconditionado.
El.
The...
Aire.
Air...
A conditioned.
Conditioning.
Next, we have the hot water.
El Agua Caliente.

Caliente.
Of course, in 2025, we need an internet connection.
The connection to internet.
The connection to internet.
And natural light.

crucial
here's
what you
might

You also heard me ask about the

Los

Finally, and one thing to look out for,
something that's not always clear,
is the agency fee.
La Commission de la Agency.
La Commission
De,
de la Agencia.
What do you see if we're on these two pieces
today? I'm getting excited
thinking about having our own space when Anna arrives.
From the Colombian jungle to an apartment in Madrid.
What an adventure we're on together.
Um, in what plant this, the apartment.
The agent tells me it's on the fourth floor
with an elevator.
That's good.
I don't want to climb so many stairs every day.
When describing where your apartment is located,
you'll use these terms.
Ground floor.
La planta
Baja. La
planta,
Baja.
Think about how plants grow
on the ground floor.
La Planta Baja.
The first
second and third floor would be
El
First, Second
and Tercer Piso.
The first floor,

I can
already imagine
Anna and
me having

each morning
when she
arrives.
When
viewing apartments,
learn to
express
your
opinion with
these
phrases.
Me
Gusta.
I like it.
No
me
Gusta.
I don't like it.
Sometimes it's
better to be direct. To say it's perfect for us, you could say,
is perfecto for us. Is perfecto for nosotros. To say it's in good condition, you could say,
is
in
good
conditions
is
in
good
conditions
conversely
if you're not
convinced
but you think
that it
has
potential
you could
say
hmm
has
potential
has

There are much
tiendas
and cafes
and
I
like the
location
matters.
Here's how
to talk
about
neighborhoods
and areas.
The
neighborhood is
El
Barrio
El

You're going
to have
to try
and roll
your
a R's
for this
one.
El

The area
is
La Sona.
La

Just think of
a zone
in which your house is located
La Sona
If something is central
You would say it is
Centrico

And if your home is well connected
In terms of transportation
You could say
It is
Bien Communicado

Which literally
translates to well communicated.
The location is

La

The second piece.
What are the
next steps?
What documents
need for the contract?
I've
my passport and
documents bankarios.
Found the perfect place.
Now comes the paperwork.
Learn these essential terms.
The rental application.
La solicitude de alquiler.
La solicitude
de alquiler.
The requirements.
Los requisitos.
Los requisitos.
To sign the contract is to
firmar the contract.
If you would want to ask about the duration of the contract, a pretty good idea,
you would say,
la duration of the contract.
La duration del contract.
So,
how time during the contract?
And,
special that I should know before you sign on the dotted line, understand these important
legal terms.
The clause.
La clausula.
La clausula.
The renewal.
La renovation.
La renovation.
And finally, the landlord.
El propitario.
The proprietario.
So, if
all right with the solicitude,
I'll firm the contract
the next
month. Perfect.
I'll finally have our space ready
for when Anna arrives.
This will be our first home together in Spain.
So here are some
renting tips you'll want to know if you're in Spain.
Number one.
Standard contracts
typically last five to seven years.
But you can usually
leave earlier with notice.
Number two, expect to pay a deposit of one to two months' rent.
Number three, agency fees typically equal around one month's rent.
And finally, utilities are usually paid separately from rent.
So, with that being said, it's time to put your apartment hunting skills to the test.
How would you say
I'm looking for a two-bedroom apartment?
The answer is
I'm looking
a piece of two-abitations.
Alternatively, you could say
I'm looking
an apartment
of two abitations.
Next.
What does the following mean?
are included
those
suministas
are included
those
submistros
are

are utilities

or discovered a few areas to revisit
you've taken another
important step in your Spanish journey.
Felicidad is

And in our next episode, we'll be getting the keys to our new place.
