Episode 8. Nuestro Barrio Nuevo.
It's an absolute pleasure to welcome you back to immersive Spanish.
It's our first full day in Madrid, and Anna and I are walking through our new neighborhood, Chambari.
She arrived just yesterday from Colombia, and after so many weeks apart, it feels amazing to be side by side again.
What a legria!
Today, taking a relaxed stroll with Anna by my side,
as she discovers the sights, sounds, and smells of her new barrio.
As we go along, you'll hopefully recognize a lot of the places that we covered
when I first explored the neighborhood myself.
Think of it as a recap.
Look, Anna, that is the kiosko del que te abelé.
Here we can buy revistas,
water,
even chigles.
And that's what is that is a panadier?
Yes, and wele a pan
Recien Echre.
We're going to
go over
a barred
this
time.
No,
I see the
hour.
As we walk,
we're spotting
all the essentials.
A pharmacy,
a fruteria,
and,
that's already
eyeing it.
She's a historian.
So you can imagine
how excited she is.
This is
the park
that I saw
a year.
Tien many
arboles,
bankos,
and even
an area
of games.
Remember how
banko,
not only means
bank, but
a bench.
And to remember
that, we
imagine ourselves
banking our
physical energy
when we sit on it.
What
beautiful,
we can
come to
learn here
or do
a picnic.
Yes,
and
look those
gardens,
perfect
for the
Mananas de domino.
Just a quick recap,
Viajeros.
How would you say,
The park?
If you said El Parque,
then you are correct.
How about the bench?
El Banco.
And what would be the garden?
The garden, in Spanish, is El Hardin.
And what about the playground?
Think about the playground as an area of games.
And that's because the playground is,
the area of games.
Guys, you know what?
I have to say that in Madrid,
green spaces are everywhere.
And where there are green spaces,
where there are parks,
there's community.
And I just love it.
And that edificio grande of ladrillo?
That Anna is the center cultural.
As in cinema,
classes of history,
flamenco,
Seguro that you will
encantar.
And just at
final of the
street,
there's
a church
an
old
also
we're
a office
of
a
office
and a
public
a
perfect
Here's
another
test to
see how
much
you've
remembered
from
episode
6
how
would you
say
the
post
office
the
office
of
Correos
La
Oficina
De
Correos
And how about
the cultural center
El Centro Cultural
Centro Cultural
And how about the church
La Iglesia
La
Iglesia
To remember La
Iglesia
Just think about how
Enrique Iglesias
Everyone's
favorite Latin pop star, regularly attends
La Eglacea. Everything is nearby, from cultural
centers to schools, churches and libraries.
Chambari is full of character, Anna's already
falling in love of it.
We're going to sitern us in this terrace?
A coffee with leech?
Yes, and maybe a toast with tomato.
Perfect.
Let me run you through some.
Spanish vocab for
cafe culture.
The outdoor terrace is
La Terraza.
La Terraza.
A coffee of milk is,
and I'm sure you already know this one,
a cafe con leche.
My favorite.
An
cafe
con leche
to order is
to
PEDIR
PEDIR
I'll
PEDIR
or
I'll pedir
a pere
a toastada
It's like to request
PEDir
to order
And finally
To chat
Is to
Charlar
Chat
Chat
Chat
This is the true rhythm of the Spanish capital.
People watching, charlando, soaking in the day.
I think this city is already starting to feel like home, and I mean that.
So, before we wrap this up, because I just want to take this all in,
how would you say, where is the fruit shop?
where is ta la fruteria
that was a bit quick
let me go again
where
ista
la
fruteria
and in case you're wondering
why it's
esta
and not es
well it's a little bit strange
I know
but in Spanish
when we're talking about locations
we use the verb
ester
because
the location
will vary depending on where we are
in relation to it
And that's temporary.
Anyhow.
How would you say, let's sit on that bench.
We're to sit on that bench.
We are going.
Ah, too.
Sentarnos.
Sit ourselves.
En on.
That.
Bank.
Bench.
Altogether.
Let's sendernos in that's a wrap for today.
We walked through our new neighborhood, Chambari,
discovered the essentials,
and picked up some Spanish for everyday places you'll find in any city.
So tomorrow, I think, Anna and I will go to stock up the apartment with food and supplies.
So join us as we explore the world of Spanish grocery shopping.
Until the
next
