Season 6, episode 2.
Hola, Viejeros.
Today, I'm super excited to be in San Sebastian.
However, in this lesson, I'm not going to be going to a cafe.
Instead, I'm going to a restaurant.
One of the many incredible taverns they have here in this historic city by the sea.
Now, the thing to do here is go not to one restaurant, but multiple, having smaller plates
or tapas at each of them.
Wow, this one looks good.
It looks very old.
I'm going to go in and grab a table.
Cah, it's quite busy in here.
I'm going to sit at the bar and wait for them to take my order.
First and foremost, do you remember from the last episode how you'd say to eat?
To eat is,
Comer.
Comer.
Remember, not just eat.
In Spanish, it's.
to eat. To say I'm going to in Spanish is
Voie ah. Voie. Ah.
Voie is spelled V-O-Y.
But in Spanish, V sounds are pronounced more like a B.
So we say boy.
Just remember to be a bit softer on the lips.
Just imagine a boy going somewhere in your head.
So, voy means.
means I'm going and a means to.
Voa, I am going to.
This is a really useful phrase in Spanish and it's used in almost every conversation.
So how do you think you would say I'm going to eat?
Say it out loud.
Voya comer three words.
Voie a comer.
This is a really useful.
phrase in Spanish. Great. So you've just learned the future tense in Spanish. You're expressing an
action you're going to do in the future. Pretty cool, huh? So do you remember how to say to drink in
Spanish? Beber. Beber. So how do you think you'd say I'm going to drink?
Voy to bea vera. Boa bebeer. I'm going to drink. How do you say to pay?
in Spanish.
Pagar.
Pagar.
So can you guess what I'm going to pay will be?
Voya Pagar.
Voy a.
Pagar.
How do you say to talk or speak?
Ablar.
Ablar.
So, I'm sure you know how to say I'm going to speak.
Voa-ablar.
Wow.
This food looks good.
I'm eyeing up the Spanish potato omelet.
The omelet is called a tortilla de patatas.
But you can just say,
One Tortilla.
Ah, the waiters here.
Hola.
One tortilla, por favor.
Grazie.
The word for much or a lot in Spanish is very similar to the English word much.
You just actually add an O.
at the end. So much becomes much. Much. With that in mind, how would you say I'm going to
eat a lot? Voya to come much. Boy. Ah, comer much. Much. I'm going to eat is,
I'm going to comeer and much is a lot.
I'm going to comeer much.
Right, so how do you think you'd say I'm not going to eat much?
It follows the same rules as we learned in the last lesson.
No, voy to comeer much.
No, I, go to, comeer, much.
It really is that simple.
Just add a no at the start to make it negative.
So that being said, how do you think you'd say, I'm not going to drink?
No, I'm going to beaver.
No, I'm not going to drink much.
No, I'm going to drink much.
No, I'm going to bever much.
What about, I'm not going to speak?
No, voy to beaver.
No, boy, a, talk.
Now, I'm not going to speak much.
How would you say that?
No, I'm going to
talk much.
No,
voy,
a,
to,
talk much.
Now,
just out of interest,
how do you think you would say
today I'm not going to speak much?
The word today is
hoy.
How would you say
today I'm not going to speak much?
Oi,
no,
I'm going to talk much.
Oi, no,
I'm going to
A
Alar much
Good job
What's
I'm not going to drink milk
No voy
A Bever Leche
No
I'm going to
Bever Lece
It's my tortilla
Tortilla de
Patatas
Grazie Seor
Wow
This looks incredible
This looks incredible
It's incredible
It's soft
Fluffy
Warm
Oh yes
It's delicious.
Right, so now you know how to say I'm going to.
Voya.
But let me unlock another huge group of phrases for you with one simple word change.
To say you're going to, you change.
Voya to, va.
Now, I want you to know that it's actually two words.
Vá, ah.
But in Spanish this sounds like one word
and that's because when the same vowel appears at the end of one word
and at the start of the next they sort of merge into one sound
so the a from Vá flows directly into the a from A
creating one long Vaa sound
this linking is completely natural in Spanish
and that's why Spanish can often sound very quick
but it's not va-a-a but va-a so with that being said to say you're going to eat is
va-comer va-comer it's not va-a-comer but va-comer amazing how about you're going to drink in spanish how would you say that
va vever
Moving on
You're going to speak
How would you say that?
Va blar
You're going to pay
Va-pagar
Va-pagar
One more time
Va-pagar
Again
To change us from a statement
Into a question
All you do is change the intonation
So
You're going to eat
va-comer
becomes
va-comer
you also add a question mark
at the end when you write
and an upside-down question mark
at the beginning
so you know it's a question
right from the start
and can use that rising intonation
how about are you going to drink
in Spanish
va-e-e-be-be-er
are you going to speak
va-blau-blar
are you going to pay
va to pay
so taking it a step further
what do you think happens when you add a
no at the start and use that rising
intonation no va comeer
no va comeer
that becomes aren't you going to eat
say it with me
no va to comeer
no va comer how would you say aren't you going to pay not
will pay no to pay how would you say aren't you going to speak
no va blar no va blar how would you say aren't you going to drink
no vaverer no vaver so how would you say I'm going to eat are you going to eat
I'm going to come.
Va to eat?
I'm going to
come.
Va to come?
I'm going to come.
Vaugh a comer?
How about I'm going to drink?
Aren't you going to pay?
I'll bebever.
No,
not pay.
I'm going to bever.
No va'a pager.
How about?
I'm not going to talk.
Are you going to talk?
No, I'll be able.
Va'laar?
No voy
I'll be able to be able to.
You see, the possibilities are endless.
With these simple rules,
you can now say
so many different phrases
and ask countless questions.
Right, I'm going to finish my tortilla
and then head to the next restaurant.
