Right, so today I'm back at my Airbnb.
I've walked thousands of steps and eaten a huge amount of amazing food.
So now I'm just chilling in my Airbnb and ready for an early night.
So I'm ready for another full day tomorrow of exploring.
Now, I want to tell you about another really useful word in Spanish.
This word is poedo.
Pueido.
and it means I can.
And just like the other words I've taught this season,
it can be changed slightly to mean a multitude of different things.
I want you to first repeat after me.
I can.
Puehedo.
Okay, cool.
So, to say I can eat, you would say,
Puedo comer.
Puedo, comeer.
Following the same style as,
before, how do you think you would change it to say you can eat?
Puide comeer.
Puede.
Comeer.
As you can see, you just changed the ending from
Puido with an O to Puede, with an E.
The O becomes an E.
It's just the same as how you change
Necessito to Necessita.
Puedo becomes
Puede
So, okay
how do you think you'd say
They can eat
Pueden
Comer
Pueden
Commer
Puedo
loses the O
and gets an E-N
instead
to become they can
Imagine you finish your dinner in a restaurant
and you want to pay
How would you say
I can pay
I can pay.
Puedo Pagar.
Puedo
Pagar.
Now, how do you think you would ask?
Can I pay?
Puedo Pagar?
See, it's exactly the same.
Again, with that upward
intonation and question mark.
Now, do you remember
how to say, I want to sit down?
Quiro sentarme.
I want
SENTARME
Sentarmie
Meaning
Sit myself down
To sit myself down
is
Sentarme
So
Imagine you've walked
Into a restaurant
How would you ask
Can I sit down?
Puedo sentarme?
How would you ask
Can I eat here?
Puehomere here?
Puehomere here?
How would you say you can't speak?
You can't speak.
No Pue dee
No Pue deebleer.
No Pue dee
How about they can't drink?
They can't drink.
No Pueben Bebeer.
No.
Pueben
How about?
I can't eat here.
I can't eat here.
No.
How about why can't you eat here?
No, I can't you eat here?
Why can't you eat here?
Why can't you come here?
Why can't they drink there?
Why can't they drink there?
Why can't they drink there?
Why can no they be there?
How would you say she can't pay?
pay. No, Pue de Pagar. How about he can't pay? It's the same. No, Pue de Pagar. Now listen up.
He in Spanish is El. El. And she in Spanish is Eia. Eia.
So, if you want to specify who you're talking about, whether it's a boy or a girl, a man or a woman, you can add el or ella at the start of the sentence.
So, for example, he can eat.
El puade comeer.
He can eat.
Conversely, she can talk.
To say she can talk,
Ella
Pue de
Abla
Ella
Pue
Ablaar
Now remember
The only time
people usually
add this in Spanish
is when they're
specifying
something
to avoid confusion
Let's say
you're at a restaurant
with a couple of friends
A mate and a female
If the female
friend is allergic to cheese
You would tell your server
Shea no
Pueh
Kese
Ella
No
you do this because if you just said no puerto can't eat the cheese it's correct Spanish but you're not
actually saying which person can't eat the cheese if your male friend was going to pay the bill
you could tell the waiter el puade pagar see el
Pue Pagar.
This means, of course, he can pay.
While specifying genders, how would you say she can eat and he can pay?
He can eat and he can pay.
Once more.
Eya can comeer and he can pay.
How about I'm going to eat and you can pay?
I'm going to come and you can pay.
I'm going to come and I am going to.
So how about can you pay?
you pay, please?
Pue
Pagar, for
favor.
Pue Pagar,
for favor.
Pue.
Pagar.
For
favor.
Well,
Viehereros,
quick test.
I'll say it
in English,
you say it
in Spanish.
And remember,
say it out loud.
How would you say?
I can eat.
Puehomere.
Puedo
come.
How about
you,
formal, can eat.
Pue can eat.
Puehre.
They can eat.
Pue can eat.
Pueden.
Puehden.
Comear.
Now, make it a question.
Can I pay?
Puedo Pagar.
How about?
Can I sit down?
I can't
I can't sitar me
I can I eat here
I can come here?
Can I come here?
Now make it negative
You can't speak
No, can't talk
No
Pueh
They can't drink
They can't drink is
No
Pueben Bebeer
No
Pue can't eat here.
No, I can't eat here.
No, I can't, come here.
How about, why can't you eat here?
Why can't you eat here?
Why can't they drink there?
Why can't they drink there?
Why can no put them there?
Why?
Why not
they can't
be there?
Huh?
Why not
they're
there?
Now, let's be
specific.
She can't
eat cheese.
She
no
can't
eat cheese.
She
no
can
eat
to
eat
cheese.
She
no
can
eat
to come
that
he
can.
He can.
He can.
Can.
pay.
Pue Pagar.
El.
Pue de
Pagar.
Okay.
And one last one.
I'm going to eat
and you can pay.
I'm going to
eat and you
pay.
Okay?
I'm going to
come and
Pue de Pagar.
So, how did you do?
