Jim Harold's Campfire - A Ghost Pushed My Boyfriend Out of Our Bed - Jim Harold's Campfire 775

Episode Date: August 24, 2026

A creepy New Orleans hotel stay takes a very strange turn. Elsewhere, a silent triangular craft glides low over the rooftops in an encounter that becomes even more unsettling once the witness realizes... other people have reported seeing almost the exact same thing. We also hear about a fog-shrouded drive where the clock simply does not seem to add up, and two brothers who may have shared the same dream from different points of view. It’s the kind of episode that moves from eerie to deeply puzzling, with stories that leave just enough unanswered to keep you thinking long after the Campfire goes out. Starting point is 00:00:00 Was her boyfriend pushed out of bed by a ghost? We'll find out on this edition of Jim Harold's Campfire. Sit back, relax, and warm yourself by Jim Harold's Campfire. Haunted Hotels. I love hearing those stories, and that's a good thing because Sarah is here from Tennessee, and she's relatively new to the show. We thank her very much for that. Sarah, tell us about this haunted hotel and what happened.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Okay, so me and my boyfriend at the... the time, we were driving from South Florida to Houston, Texas to visit some friends. And on the way back, since it was such a long drive, we decided to stop in New Orleans and check it out. So he had grabbed a hotel travel guide from one of the truck stops and booked us a room for, I think, three, maybe four nights. So we went and went and did the town and had something to eat and hung out on Bourbon Street for a little bit and came back and I went to bed before him and I guess he had come to bed later of course and I was rudely awakened to him on the floor like crawling back up into bed and tell fussing at me that I had pushed him off the bed
Starting point is 00:01:32 and it was kind of comical you know because he was like a big big dude, you know, I mean, he was crawling back up on the bed. I didn't think a whole lot of it, and I just went back to sleep. But the next morning when we were up having coffee, I asked him about it. I was like, what's up with you rolling off the bed, you know? And he swore that I pushed him off. But I was on my side of the bed. So there's no way it could have been me. And if something pushed him off the bed, it wasn't me, then I don't know what it was. Hmm. So do you think, I mean, Did you know of that hotel? Where was the hotel again?
Starting point is 00:02:10 Maybe you mentioned it. In New Orleans. Yeah. It was a real different kind of hotel, almost like a townhouse. It had three different like staircases and each room was done in a different color. So I'd never stayed anywhere like that in my life and still to this day. Yeah, that sounds pretty unique. It was a creepy place.
Starting point is 00:02:32 I wish I could remember exactly where, but that was before Katrina. because I am wondering if it's a haunted hotel situation because, I mean, there's a lot of hotels in New Orleans, I believe, that are supposedly haunted. And we've even had, I think we had a call years ago, and you're in the Plus Club. Thank you for that. You'd be able to access it. But there was someone in New Orleans that stayed at a hotel. And it was like, I don't know, it was one of these ones with an operator, one of the old school elevators, you needed an operator. operator and somehow the elevator had a ghost operator or something. I can't remember exactly, but there was something along that line. And that's the first thing. And it was that kind of ornate, probably rot iron kind of place. I'm guessing it's not the same place, but it reminded me of it. So you think that a ghost pushed your boyfriend out of bed?
Starting point is 00:03:27 Yeah, it wasn't me. That I know. Well, I don't want to say too much, but since he's an ex-boyfriend, maybe maybe the ghost had good judgment. We're actually still together, 26 years later. Oh, I thought you said ex-pro boyfriend. I thought you said ex-boyfriend, your boyfriend at the time. Now, oh, I got you. I got you.
Starting point is 00:03:49 All right, well, then I stand corrected. Now, watch Jim insert foot into mouth. Well, Sarah, thank you so much for being on the show. If you want to, you can give your significant other a shout up by first name. If you want to, that's up to you. Okay, Chris.
Starting point is 00:04:10 I did it. There you go. Chris, I'm sorry, dude. I'm sorry. But stay spooky anyway. Stay spooky. You stay spooky too, Sarah. Thanks for being on the show.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Thank you. Welcome. I'm Jim Harold. And this is the campfire. So glad to have you with us. This is the show where we have real folks come on and tell their true stories of supernatural paranormal encounters could be head scratchers, ghost encounters, UFO encounters,
Starting point is 00:04:41 cryptic creatures, time slips, whatever it is, it's absolutely amazing. And they're absolutely true. And we're so glad to have you with us today. I appreciate a couple pieces of housekeeping before we get to the big show today. First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone who has signed up to share their campfire story. and I double thank you to everybody who has followed through and followed up with Dar to set up a time. But we have about, I think it's at least 10 people who have signed up, they sign up, we get the message, Dar responds to them, and then we're ghosted.
Starting point is 00:05:19 And not in the supernatural way, but we don't hear back. I think there's about 10 people outstanding. So please, please, please, please. if you are in that group who said, yeah, I want to be on, and Dar sent you an email and you haven't responded. And she gets back to everybody almost immediately. She's very fast about this. Please check your email, check your spam, and get back to her because it's not fair to all the other people who want to sign up. It's not fair to us, really.
Starting point is 00:05:50 We're expecting to hear a story, or at least if you've changed your mind, we'd appreciate you letting us know. But if you signed up and you haven't heard back, double check because chances are you have heard back. Again, even I tell Dar, you know, she's out of somebody sign up for the campfire. I get back to them. I'm like, yeah, but you go wait till tomorrow. She's like, no, I got to do it right now. So she gets right back to folks. I know that for a fact.
Starting point is 00:06:16 So if you haven't gotten something, something's wrong. And chances are most people have and then keep saying, I'll do that tomorrow. We'll do it today. It helps us out a lot. Another thing it helps us out a lot, and another group we'd like to thank for all of our great Plus Club members. And if you love this show and want to get the whole back catalog plus a ton of other content, including our spooky studio nets that we do, all the fun things that we do with the Plus Club, all the extra content, go to Jimherald.com slash plus. Jimherald.com slash plus. That's really what makes it possible for us to continue to produce the free version of this show.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Yes, there are ads, but I can tell you right now that the Plus Club kind of carries the water force. That's what really makes it possible these days for us to do the shows. Now, there was a time when advertising carried most of the weight, but those days are over. You know, advertising is not what it used to be for independent podcasters. Now, all the money, the big money goes to the big celebrity podcasts. So if you want to see this show continue and you want to get access to the whole back catalog, jimherald.com slash plus. Thank you so much. And now, on to another great campfire story. I love the idea of international callers. And I was telling Lisa, she may be, she may be our first caller from Switzerland. I can't say that with certainty. We've
Starting point is 00:07:43 been doing this show since 2009. But I know we don't get many callers from Switzerland. I can say that. So we're so glad she's with us. She's going to start us out with, well, the story that happened back here in the States back around 2010. Lisa, welcome to the show. Thank you for joining us. Hi, Jim. I'm a little starstruck finally talking to you. Believe me, as you saw, I had a garbage truck outside. I cut myself. I mean, it's not that glamorous, so nothing to be starstruck about. But nice to meet you and thank you for coming on the show. So this story happened in Providence, Rhode Island around, I think, 2010 or 11. I, my husband. My husband. My husband. My husband used to, I would go to bed at a normal time and my husband used to stay up super, super
Starting point is 00:08:29 late at night just because he was a night owl. And one time in the morning, just very, very nonplussed, he said to me, oh, I saw something weird last night when I was letting the dog out. And first of all, my husband is not at all interested in the paranormal, like he's not into anything weird. He's Not like me. Like, I love a good, weird story. Right. He's not at all interested in any of the stuff. Doesn't care.
Starting point is 00:09:00 And he was like, oh, I saw something weird last night. So, of course, my interest is peaked, and I'm like, tell me more. And he said, well, I was letting the dog out around three in the morning. And he was just standing in the back door. The dog was doing its business. And he said he sensed something above him. Like, I guess he could sort of hear the sound echoing. off. You know how, like, you can hear sound echoing off things? So he just sort of, like, felt
Starting point is 00:09:29 like there was something there. So he looked up and he said, there was a craft of some kind, like something flying extremely slowly, very low, like right over the rooftops and the trees, some sort of, just something, something flying, making no noise and moving incredibly slowly. And he was, I mean, he was so nonchalant about this that I thought it was weird. And I was like, okay, well, that's interesting. Describe it to me. And he kind of described it, but not very well. So it was like, draw me a picture.
Starting point is 00:10:05 So he drew a triangle with a light in each corner. Sort of like an elongated triangle, like the concord shape. Remember what concord the plane was shaped? Yeah, like sort of like a drawn-out triangle with a light in each of the corners. And I was like, that's weird. What else? And he was like, nothing. Then I just went in and went to bed.
Starting point is 00:10:25 And I was like, okay, that's not interesting. So I, of course, listening to your show and being interested in a good weird story, I went to Google and I googled it. I didn't know what a triangle UFO was. I'd never heard of a triangle UFO. Yeah. And it was exactly what he had drawn and described, making no noise, moving very slowly and flying very low. And this is an urban air. It's not like we lived out in the woods.
Starting point is 00:10:51 This is an urban area. So I just thought that was really, it's weird that he drew something that lots and lots of other people have seen. That's right. We've had a couple on campfire lately who have seen these trangler. Yeah. You had one last week, which just made me call in. Yeah. And also, and I think I mentioned on the other calls, there was a big flap, I think in Belgium.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Yes. Of trangler UFOs. And there was actually an author that I've interviewed for one of. my shows. I don't know if it was Plus Club or Paranormal Podcast. David Marler was his name, or is his name, M-A-R-L-E-R. And I believe he did a book on triangular UFOs. Okay. I think that thing in Belgium was like in the 80s or the early 90s. Sounds right. And that's what came up when I googled it. And funny because my husband was not from the United States, he wasn't from Belgium, but he was from a country bordering Belgium. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:11:44 ooh, is he an abd-d-d-w? Were they after him? I don't know. Yeah, and it's where there always seem to be low. They seem to be quiet. They seem to be big and also a lot of times slow moving. All those things. And check in all those boxes. Yep. And it doesn't, I mean, even a drone, like, it sounds way too big to be a drone,
Starting point is 00:12:03 but even a drone makes a little whirring noise. Yeah, but the thing is, is that these older stories, I mean, drones weren't. Yeah. I mean, now I can look out my window. I see something in the sky. It's like, oh, there's a decent, because there were a few weeks here. I would go outside and there would be drone flying around the same time. And I'm like, ooh, I think it was a kid or someone who had just gotten a drone or something.
Starting point is 00:12:24 But you could tell the user was a distance away. They weren't close. But the thing is, is that, you know, now it's like, well, but first of all, drones typically aren't massive. There's even regulations on how they can be and so forth. And in 2010, I mean, people, I don't think people were casually flying around drones. I don't think. So I don't. I also thought it was weird.
Starting point is 00:12:47 His utter lack of curiosity was just weird. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think maybe that plays into being the skeptical thing because maybe we kind of went against his, I'm not saying a negative, but maybe it just went so much against his worldview that he's just kind of put it on a shelf and said, well, it's just weird things happen. Yeah. Yeah. You had a second story for us. You said this one was brief.
Starting point is 00:13:15 You had a quick second one for us. So please go ahead. This, I think, I believe in the world of the paranormal is called a Verdarger's story. That's some sort of Scandinavian word for this phenomena. This happened in the 80s. I was home alone. I don't know where my parents and my siblings were out somewhere. I was home alone and I was grounded.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I remember that because I was not supposed to go over to my friend's house or whatever because I was being punished for something. I don't know what. I was a teenager. So I was playing really loud music as you do when your parents are not home and you're a teenager in the 80s. I was playing my records really loud, probably dancing in front of the mirror. And I heard my family come home. I heard the front door open. I was on the second floor.
Starting point is 00:14:02 I heard the front door open. I heard the familiar sort of stomping noises of people in the hallway and the closet door open. And I was like, oh, crap, I busted. I turned my music down. and I ran over to the stairs to I look down and say hi, and there was nobody there. And they had not come home. So I got super freaked out because I'm like a 16-year-old girl home alone. Sure.
Starting point is 00:14:27 And so I went over to my friend's house. I was so freaked out, even though I was grounded, I ran over to my friend's house. Risking, it was worth getting in trouble for leaving because I was so scared. I don't know what that is, but since then I've heard that this is a thing that people experience somebody coming home, the familiar noise of the garage door going up, whatever, and then they're not there. And then a few minutes later, the family comes home. And, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Yeah, you wonder if it's time slip or if it's some kind of sinister paranormal thing. And the thing that I always find interesting, and we all know this, people have a sound. You wouldn't think so, but it's almost like a fingerprint when they move around. Like, for example, I almost invariably wake up before my way. wife. And when she's up and about, she has a specific sound, which is different than the sound that one of my daughters has when they're upstairs. You can tell the difference, just the rhythm that they walk, their habits, what they do, and that sound. Or we've even had cases where somebody said hello or something, and the voice sounded the same. So it does make you wonder, I kind of had to chuckle. You were worried
Starting point is 00:15:37 about playing your records too loud. Yeah, I was worried. I was like busted. You got busted. I'm thinking about, You know, these days, you know, that would be pretty light behavior to worry about getting... Yeah, I'd have headphones on, have my earbuds in. But in those days, no, I just... But most people now, if all their kids did that was a little bit off was play their music a little too loud, they'd be pretty happy, I think. But yeah. That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:16:01 It's a weird world, Lisa, as you know, from your experiences, the experiences of your husband. These things happen. Do we have any answers? Unfortunately, I don't. But I believe it's good when people tell stories. like you just did, because other folks out there like you did with that triangular UFO story say, I'm not alone. Other people are experiencing these things.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Thanks for joining us today all the way from Switzerland. Stay spooky. Thanks, Jim. Stay spooky. I love when we get interesting stories that are a little bit different, maybe not our typical story. And there's something out there, you know, a few years back called The Secret. If you remember that, it was this idea. and the idea's been around for probably centuries, I'm guessing, at least many decades.
Starting point is 00:16:47 The idea that you can think towards something and manifest it. Well, Chantal is back. She's been on previously. We're so glad all the way from France. And she's going to tell her story of where maybe the secret came into play. Chantal, welcome to the show. Tell us what happened. Thank you, Jim.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Okay, this is about 41 years. ago. It's been a long time. I was a single mom in college with the daughter, and she was five. I had art classes. I have an art degree. And we were heading just before Thanksgiving break to pick up some supplies for a class that I had. And I didn't have a car, so we always took the bus. And this is in Milwaukee and the area around Milwaukee, and it was easy to get everywhere by bus. So we were on our second bus to get to our third bus to get to our destination because our supplies were kind of out of town. And a couple of girls got on the bus and were a little bit on the rougher side. And so when Noel and I had a chance to move forward on the bus we did, well, they decided they wanted to move forward and get behind us. and that made us feel a little uncomfortable. So we caught the next bus, and they got on the next bus and sat right behind us again. And we're saying some things that weren't very kind and making us both feel very uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:18:30 So I scooted to the front of the bus with Noel, and I said to her, when the bus stops, we're not going to get off. right away, we'll wait. And then as soon as it's about ready to go, we'll just slip out the front door. And we did. And those two girls saw that we did that, and they stopped the bus, and they got off. Oh, boy. And yeah, it wasn't, it was scary. And the one girl told my daughter, if you try to help your mom, you know, I'm going to kill you, though. I don't think she would have actually done that, but she threatened my daughter and the other girl just beat me up right out in the middle of the street. I broke my glasses right off my face. And I was just out of nowhere right in the middle of an intersection.
Starting point is 00:19:21 So I'm asking for people to help and finally people came and they tried to pull her off. And I got into a building with my daughter and all I wanted was to get home. I mean, in hindsight, I should have called the police, but, you know, I was young. I just wanted to get home. So we did. Got a taxi, got home. It was extremely traumatic. So then, you know, now our still, our transportation was the bus.
Starting point is 00:19:49 And to get on the bus, both of us were really nervous because we didn't know if we were going to run into girls again. And my daughter was really afraid. And I just heard this voice and, you know, call it the secret. Call it what you will. But I just heard this voice. and I'm very grounded in my face, and it's very important to me. You will get a car by the end of the year. And I thought, okay, I'm going to take that.
Starting point is 00:20:18 And so this is right at Thanksgiving. And I thought, well, okay, let me figure out how I'm going to do that. I heard the voice, but, you know, I want to take over and make it happen. So I call my dad and I said, you know, can you give me some money for a car? And he wasn't able to do that. And my mom wasn't able to do that. And there was a contest to win a Jeep. And I thought, well, maybe this is my way to get the car.
Starting point is 00:20:45 And so I tried that. And I told everybody, you know, God told me I'm going to get a car by the end of the year. And I know what's going to happen. And the year is getting closer and closer to the end. And I don't have a car yet. And it's December. It's 15th. And it's the 20th.
Starting point is 00:21:05 And it's after Christmas. and I still don't have a car and pretty much I pretty much gave up on that whole idea and felt pretty foolish to have told all these people I was going to get this car, you know. And it's New Year's Eve and I'm with a whole group of friends that college age that are from our church and we're all having like a New Year's party and celebrating the New Year coming in. and I'm talking with this young woman who I really didn't know, personally that well, but knew of her. And we're visiting, and she was telling me about her experience with becoming a missionary in Hawaii, which doesn't sound really hard to do if you had to go somewhere, you know.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Oh, the sacrifice. What a sacrifice. And she said, you know, I just really felt that I was, supposed to be able to go and become a missionary in Hawaii, and I'd shared this with all these people, and then everything fell through, and then at the last minute, it all came together, and I said, wow, I get what you're saying, because, and then I shared my story. Right. And she looked at me, and she said, Chantal, I have your car.
Starting point is 00:22:30 And it's like quarter to midnight. And I said, what? She said, I have your car. I said, yeah, but I don't have any money. I couldn't even pay you for a car. She said, you can just give me payments. She said, there's two things that I could not sell. And I'm leaving next week, and they are my car and my dresser.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Wow. And the car is yours. And so by midnight, I had a car. Wow. Now, it was a Buickless Sabre, you know, white hard top. blue, it was pretty snazzy, and, you know, an older car. But my roommate, Kathy, she had a brand new Toyota, and all winter her car had trouble starting. And my old LeSaber was faithful and true. And I really made it a point to use that car to give other people rides, because that
Starting point is 00:23:28 really was a gift for me and my daughter. And so I wanted to in return, help others when they needed a ride as well. Wow. And that's one of the stories where it starts off. And it's like, oh, this is a horrible thing. And some not so nice people did some bad things. But that, at the end of the story, really kind of gives you back your faith in humanity and a higher power and things all working out. And yeah, things show up when you need them. Things show up when you need them. That's a great story.
Starting point is 00:24:02 And I do believe that. I think that things are put into our lives for a reason. And sometimes they're very unexpected, very unexpected. Chantel, thank you so much for joining us today on the campfire. I love that story. Stay spooky. My pleasure. Thanks, Jim.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Well, I'll not spoil it, but this is a good... I love these particular kind of stories because it kind of hints at how strange our universe really is. And Seeley is going to tell us about her experience. And she's been listening for about 10 years. So we appreciate it very much. Seeley, welcome to the show and tell us what happened. Thanks, Jim. Yeah, well, we're going to go back in time, no pun intended.
Starting point is 00:24:47 But it's one of those things that happen and you can never forget it. And I've shared it a few times along the years with some friends and recently someone at work. And they said, you know, that's really cool. You should do something about it. And I'm like, okay, well, we're going to go back in time into the 90s when I was in college. And so my home base was in Ventura. And I was going to college in San Diego. So weekends, holidays, all those special things, missing home, drive up the coast, visit family.
Starting point is 00:25:21 for the weekend. And sometimes it was always harder to leave than, you know, you're independent, you're young, but you still have those attachments. And it was a later on a Sunday night. And I remember, because I had to get on the road, like if you're going to make it in a few hours, you got to leave by a certain time. Everybody knows this drives those freeways in Southern California. And I'm like, I got to be At school at 5 a.m. I got to go to work after that. So I left the house about 9 p.m. And my mom said, just call us when you get there. So at the time, I was like, you know what, I'm not even going to mess with the 405. So I just jumped on to the 126 by the Magic Mountain because I had to go inland just a little bit, hit 126 going south. And then I'm like, you know what,
Starting point is 00:26:17 I think I'll take the 101, just, you know, straight, straight down the middle. So I'm, I don't know what time it was at that point, but this fog rolled in. And I'm, I know I don't drive fast. When you're young, you drive fast. But when this fog hits, anybody that's been in that area, it's like those canyons, those hills and canyons, certain times a year, there's just this fog. Right. And so I slowed down and I'm like, not going to be a casualty here.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Took my time when I finally made it home. And it's kind of all fuzzy too because it almost seemed like maybe I fell asleep at the wheel. And I was wide awake. Regardless, when I got home, I looked at the clock and I'm like, I better tell my mom I made it home. it was like an hour and a half, an hour and 40 minutes that it took me to get home. And I was like, what's going on here? Like, did the clock stop working? Right.
Starting point is 00:27:28 This isn't possible. So I called my mom. And I'm like, Mom, I made it home. And she said, you're joking me. You stopped to get gas somewhere, right? And you're checking in. I'm like, no, Mom. I made it home.
Starting point is 00:27:43 And she couldn't believe. it. She said, well, I'm glad we prayed before you left, because you must have been driving like a bad at hell. No. So that's it. I mean, and to this day, I still can't put two and two together because, you know, if you look on the map, any of your listeners, they know how long it takes. Do you think on some level, somebody or something moved you along that path more quickly or basically picked you up and dropped you back down in some way you didn't perceive to maybe have you avoid something? Well, that's quite interesting that you would ask me that question. My grandfather, he passed in a car accident right along that same freeway about 12 years prior to.
Starting point is 00:28:41 to that right by magic not and um i never even thought of that jim but i think i always thought it had something to do with the fog i don't know i really don't i don't know i have an explanation it's funny you mentioned the fog because um one of our very early episodes maybe 2005 2006 of the paranormal podcast which by the way folks is still running if you want to check out interviews with people on these topics we cover on these shows, The Paranormal Podcast. It was so early that I got that name. But one of the early interviews that we did, and then we did interview them years later, but I think the first interview was better, was a guy by the name of Bruce Gernan.
Starting point is 00:29:28 And he wrote a book called The Fog. And it talked about flying into the Bermuda Triangle. and he had a very strange experience over the Bermuda Triangle. He was a private pilot. And he felt that a lot of the stuff attributed to the Bermuda Triangle was because of this fog that did play with time, that all did all these things. I don't even know if the book is in print anymore, but I did interview him a few years ago. So maybe it is. His name is Bruce Kernan, G-E-R-N-O-N-O-N, I think.
Starting point is 00:30:06 think, and the book was the fog. So it was just interesting that he talked about going through what he called an electronic fog, which messed with his instruments. And I think there was also a time slip aspect to it that the timing didn't line up from when he took off and when he landed. So it reminded me of that. That's really cool. Yeah. Yeah, you know, again, these are, these are things that when you layer them, like you have said before, like, you know, all throughout civilization, different peoples and different areas of the globe and different tribes and types of people, they all, like, you know, you've got pictures and stories passed down and they all line up to the same thing. And so when you talk about that with the fog and that Bermuda triangle,
Starting point is 00:30:58 yeah, I'm wondering how many other people are listening right now that, that you, that listen to you that have had a fog experience. That is strange. That is strange. Also, one thing, it's not strange. Thank you. You're wearing a stay spooky t-shirt. We appreciate it. Stay spooky. Thank you. By the way, folks, you can get chores at jimherald.com's last merch if you have the good, and the mug. You can get the mug too. See, Lee, has excellent taste, and we really appreciate her support. And we appreciate her sharing this great story. And again, I think it's so important to share these stories. And also, So it makes you think.
Starting point is 00:31:33 And to your point, Seeley, all these different stories and, you know, the historical record and people talking about all these strange things over time, it all points to one direction that there's a lot more going on in our universe that we really understand. And when you think you know something for certain, question it. Because believe you, me, I found out in my life. Some things I thought I know, I don't know. So there you have it. Always expect the unexpected.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Seeley, welcome to the program. Thank you for joining us. I appreciate it. And of course, stay spooky. Thanks, Jim. Stay spooky. Visit BetMGM Casino and check out the newest exclusive. The Price is Right Fortune Pick.

Starting point is 00:32:44 I love to hear from our international callers, and I love to hear from our repeat callers, and luckily, I am in luck because Anna is both. She's been on the show before. I don't think on video, though, because I think we weren't doing video when we talked a couple of years back. And we've got her back all the way from Poland. It amazes me that we have listeners, great listeners, great viewers over all the way in Poland. I'm very, very honored by that. Anna, welcome back to the show. And this is a very, very curious story. Please tell us what happened. So, a long story short, as you can see, over my shoulder, there is a huge,
Starting point is 00:33:30 mirror on my wall and my bed is right underneath it so what I was always thinking that's the best placement for the huge heavy mirror ever because I used to joke that one day it will just fall and kill me in my sleep right and in March this year that's what happened I mean it didn't kill me obviously but it fell from the wall. And it was weird because I can kind of explain why this happened because we had a lot of construction works in the building. So workers were drilling in the walls, so there was a lot of vibrations and I can understand that this could affect the mirror and sort of it could lose its balance. Right. So let me let me just
Starting point is 00:34:30 divided into two sections because I think what happened can be told this way. So the first segment can be rationally explained. So the mirror fell first from the three hooks counting from the left. Then it swank on the surface of the wall. I could see the So I know that happened. And then the whole weight sort of hanged on the last hook. And it bent, it scratched the frame from the back. And the whole mirror should fall almost flat on me because I was sleeping. Right.
Starting point is 00:35:18 So it should have fallen on you, basically. Yes, yes, that's right. And just to give you some details. is it's quite a heavy thing. It's about three or four kilograms. That would be around six pounds. And it's quite long. It's almost two meters.
Starting point is 00:35:39 That would be around six feet. Right. So it's not a small thing. But when I woke up, it didn't touch me. Let me show you. If that's my, bed and I'm sleeping on it. Right. And Anna, so if you're listening, if you're listening, Anna is
Starting point is 00:36:04 holding up some sticky notes as an example with a pen, but she's showing your position. Go ahead, Anna. And basically what happened, I woke up because I started moving my legs around like we do when we wake up and I touched something really cold. So I opened my eyes and I saw this mirror just laying against the wall. But it was, I... high enough that it didn't touch me at all. I was under some sort of tent, I would say, when it comes to the shape. Wow.
Starting point is 00:36:38 So it was leaning with its bottom part of the frame. So it looked like if it fell flat, it would have to, I don't know, crawl back against the wall to achieve that shape. So that's the thing I cannot, explain. Because I don't know. It's not possible.
Starting point is 00:37:04 If it followed the known laws of physics, it should just fall and hit me on my head. Right. And for so and whatever. It was almost like something saved you. Somehow it fell
Starting point is 00:37:18 and it was caused to fall in such a way that it would not hurt you. Yes, but that's not all, Jim. Okay. So the other weird thing is that I usually sleep with my earplugs because I am a very light sleeper. But that night I didn't use them. I remember that very precisely. And I didn't hear a thing.
Starting point is 00:37:45 If I toss my dog's toys and sometimes I hit the mirror, it vibrates. It's noisy, okay? But I didn't hear anything. and one other thing is that I sleep with my dog and two cats in the same room. So they are very skittish, all three of them. And if anything happens, they just run for their life to the other place in the area. And I would hear that as well, because as I told you, I sleep like a bird. Anything can wake me up.
Starting point is 00:38:22 So that's why I think it's my first and hopefully last head scratcher in my life, because I just cannot explain this. It reminds me a little bit of a story, another story from Eastern Europe over there. Very early in the history of this show, it must have been 2009 or 2010. There was this lady who came on and told this story, and it was her and her husband. And they were Canadians, but they had been newly married, I think, and their family was from Hungary. So they took a trip to Hungary and they got to this hostel or wherever they were staying. And it was about 2 o'clock in the morning. And the wife, the woman, insisted that they moved the furniture.
Starting point is 00:39:14 And the people that ran the place thought she was crazy because they thought, you know, it's 2 o'clock in the morning. you know, we check these people in it, you know, very early time in the morning. We want to get to bed, you know, they should get to bed. Why does she want to move the whole furniture of the place and where the bed was and everything? And she insisted on it. So they moved it. And this wasn't like, you know, a lot of times in the U.S. these days, we have a lot of cheap, flimsy furniture.
Starting point is 00:39:45 This was heavy, heavy European furniture. Soviet-era furniture, not light. They ended up moving it, though. And about 4 o'clock in the morning, something like that, this is the gist of the story, she heard a tremendous crash, it woke her and her husband
Starting point is 00:40:04 up. And they couldn't figure out what happened. They thought a car hit the building. And they turned on the lights. Turns out there was a massive bookcase full of books that was on the wall. And it had fallen. it and where it fell, that's where the bed was before she insisted that they move it.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Did something tell her to have that bed moved? Anna, these things happen. These things happen. They're very strange indeed. Well, there you go. I'm not that clever, and I didn't move my bed. Yeah. And, well.
Starting point is 00:40:40 But you still were saved, so who knows what was behind that? Very interesting, very interesting. Now, I know you had a second story, so why don't we just try to get it and fit it in here? I mean, you're calling all the way from Poland. We want to make sure we respect your time. Tell us the other story. Thank you. So the other one is, I would say, lighter in the mood and actually very positive and short.
Starting point is 00:41:05 So it was about, I think, a year ago or something like that. And I was in a shopping mall with my husband, just, you know, strolling around. And we are heading to the exit, just finishing our... chores and there was a cafe in the last, let's say, junction on our way to the exit. And I saw a family of three. There was parents and a visibly disabled boy. I could see that he's probably, he was probably severely autistic. And I know that I was freshly after this one famous person.
Starting point is 00:41:49 podcast about autistic children. Oh yeah, the telepathy tapes. The telepathy tapes. Yeah, I wasn't sure if I can mention the name, but that's the one. So I remembered what stuck with me from that show that those kids were saying that they cannot block the incoming thoughts of other people and they can hear everything, especially those hurtful comments about the way they look and so on. So I was like, oh, I'm going to to be the nice one. I'm going to try to say something nice to that kid.
Starting point is 00:42:25 And just to be clear, he wasn't paying any attention to the people passing by. He was obviously visibly in his own thoughts, just looking the other way, not engaging in any contact with other people. So I felt very stupid, but I focused on this little. sorry, a young guy. And I said in my thoughts, hello, I really love your hairstyle. Because I don't know. I didn't have anything more clever to say. And what happened, you know, when we are deep in our thoughts and suddenly, for example,
Starting point is 00:43:08 someone calls our name, we do something like. Right. And that's what he did. Instantly, after I thought what I thought, he was like, he turned my direction with the biggest smile and then he raised his hand and waved Oh my Lord, oh my.
Starting point is 00:43:31 I did the same. Of course, my husband waved to him as well because he had no idea what was going on. He just thought that I was being nice to a child who, you know, waved to me. Then, of course, I told him what I did. I don't think he believed me, but
Starting point is 00:43:47 I know what happened we had a connection. I mean, I have no tabatic talent, but that was the, I think, one of the best moments of my life. It was great. Oh, that is awesome. And my heart goes out to anybody who, you know, has a situation where they're on the autism spectrum. My brother was autistic. My late brother was autistic. So that's, that's an amazing thing that you were able to reach out to him and give him a positive thought and the idea that registered with him. It's a great story. Anna, thank you for joining us all the way from Poland. I certainly appreciate it. Thank you for your time today. And stay spooky.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Thanks. Stay spooky, team. Bye. I love to hear from our callers up north. Thelma from Canada is on the line. And she's only been listening to us for three months, but she said that she's gone back and she's doing the full archive through the Plus Club. We appreciate that. Her and her husband, Randy, like to go in the yard and listen to the campfire. I think that is so cool. Thelma, thank you so much. And I understand you have a story about your grandma.
Starting point is 00:45:01 Thank you for joining us and tell us what happened. So it's a little bit of a convoluted story, but we'll get through it. In 1900, my family built twin houses, huge, huge houses on the Sydney Harbor. I'm originally a Cape Ratner. And in doing that, in 1900, they found cannonballs and tomahawks on the land. So, yeah. So I suspect there was some trauma fighting on the Sydney Harbor. and also unfortunately in that house there was a suicide.
Starting point is 00:45:45 My grandmother used to take in borders and one had mental illness and had a suicide. So what happened was in 1979, my parents decided to build a home on the same property as my grandmother's house. So we were living there. and in 1981 I was 17 and about to graduate from high school. After Mother's Day, my mom's mom passed away. And my grandmother had very difficult life. She had 10 children in the 30s and 40s. Money was short and she just had a very difficult life.
Starting point is 00:46:34 She was a very, very loving lady. she would ambush my sister and I whenever we went to visit. I mean, she had a lot of grandchildren, but she would ambush the two of us and give us a face full of smooches and tell us how much she loved us. So we would, you know, at that time, be mortified, but now I wish I could go back in time. But anyway, she did have a daughter
Starting point is 00:47:02 who passed away at the age of six of an appendix. rupture and her name was Thelma and so I was named after her. When my grandmother was in the final hours of her life, she was unconscious but she did, her last word was my name. And we're not sure, yeah, we're not sure what the context was. Was she seeing her daughter Thelma or was it me? but we never thought too much of it at the time. But before the funeral, a few days before the funeral, I was lying in bed.
Starting point is 00:47:46 It was about 11 o'clock at night and just I was wide awake but trying to go to sleep. When all of a sudden in my room I felt I wasn't alone anymore. I felt a very strong presence. And I couldn't actually verbally hear anything. It wasn't like somebody was talking to me. But in my mind, I was hearing, I need help. I need forgiveness. I need prayers.
Starting point is 00:48:14 I'm stuck. And, of course, I immediately knew who it was. As a few years before this happened, I developed a weird thing with my grandmother. whenever she would call the house, I knew with 100% certainty it was her. And this is back in the day when there was no call forwarding. And she would say to me, how did you know? Like she would laugh. She said, you know, she would kind of infer that this wasn't new to her,
Starting point is 00:48:56 that she knew this was something that went on in her family. So anyway, that night I pretty much figured it was her, but being 17 and being afraid, I mean, that was totally out of my wheelhouse. Why do I have somebody in my room? My grandmother is gone. Why is she talking to me? You know, I thought maybe something was wrong with me. Anyway, I did say the Lord's prayer.
Starting point is 00:49:31 I did look in my Bible. I did whatever I thought could be done, but I was alone in my room. I didn't want to say anything to anyone else. And I actually said, Graham, I don't know what I can do for you. Can you just leave? And I thought I could get help later or whatever. And I literally at that moment heard the word no. Oh.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Not, yes, no, I can't. So I was up and out of my bed and I ran into the bathroom. I thought, I just got to get out of this room. Like, this is more than I can handle. So I went into the bathroom and I thought I washed my face, sit for a second, gather my wits. But while looking in the mirror, I just felt an overwhelming, almost like a blanket of claustophobia.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Now, I know it sounds like an anxiety attack or whatever, but that's what it felt like to me was, she was desperate. She needed help. So I opened the door and I went right across the room where my mom was, and she was actually sitting up in bed reading. And I said, Mom, I said, Grandma's in my bedroom. And she is very upset.
Starting point is 00:50:55 She's asking for prayers. I have a feeling you know what she needs. And my mom looked at me and she was like, Thelma, grandma's gone. Like what? She was trying to rationalize this. Right. And I said, listen, Mom, I am so serious. She is in that room and I don't know what to do.
Starting point is 00:51:21 She wants, she's stuck. She doesn't know. she needs forgiveness. So I said, Mom, I'm serious. And so Mom says, listen, let me sit down and talk to you. And I said,
Starting point is 00:51:34 Mom, I'm not kidding. This is something serious. And at that moment, her light beside her bed started to flicker. Oh. Yeah. Grandma was saying, I am here. Phelma's right.
Starting point is 00:51:50 Yeah. In the meantime, she also had a tricolor collie in the basement that she had trained for obedience. My mom trained dogs and was a champion obedience trainer. That dog started to howl in the basement. And that's when my mom stood up and said, what does she need? And I said, she got it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:15 She got it. I said, mom, I don't know. I said, I have a feeling that there is something. that is in your family, that she is wanting forgiveness, that maybe she had done something that you guys know, that I don't know, but you need to, it's on you. I don't know, and she's not going to go away. So my mom immediately got up and started phoning her family,
Starting point is 00:52:46 and she went down first before I should say. She went down to try and get the dog to settle, but the dog would not settle. she brought the dog up and of course the dog had to get close to my room to get into her bedroom she thought she would settle the dog in there but that dog did not settle for the entire night so um this went on for quite some time i left two months later to go into training to be a nurse and um i refused to stay in the house alone when i was there for those last two months. The other twin house was sold to the Catholic diocese, and so the priests came over to the house and talked to me, tried to bless the house, try to give my grandmother some peace.
Starting point is 00:53:41 But I am 100% certain that my grandmother has never left that house. Wow. And yeah, that's another story, and I will tell you later another time. But she would come to me several times in the next couple of weeks asking for forgiveness. So my mom went to my grandfather and said, you know, what was going on? So he had given me her Bible, and he said, just take this Bible. And then when she does, come open it and read it. I did everything that it was asked of me, but as I said, I don't think she has gone.
Starting point is 00:54:30 At the same time, I had noticed my dad was kind of withdrawn towards me. Like I thought, oh, my dad thinks I'm nuts, you know? And I had said to my mom, I said, what's with dad? He looks at me kind of funny, and she said, your father's having his own issues. I guess dad would be walking along in the house and he would get a really cold feeling like a blanket would come over him. And he knew that I was suspecting he thought it was me, but I guess he was getting his own confirmation that this was actually something that was going on. Wow, wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:15 So that's how it went. until I left in August to go into training. And even though I would go back and visit my home, I'm in Alberta now, yeah, I know that she is still there. We have since sold to home, and I don't know what's going on since then. But, yeah, so that is my story. Yeah, and that's, you know, and we can talk about it next time, but that's got to be somewhat distressing the thought that she's still there. Do you think, and I'll just leave it with this and you can fill in the blanks next time.
Starting point is 00:56:04 Do you feel that she's still there because she's not at peace or she just wants to be there? Oh, I don't think she wants to be there. but all of her children have passed except for one. And I'm just wondering, there was a lot of trauma in her life, and I'm wondering if once that one passes, that she'll finally feel at rest. I don't know. I've had other, I want to say, I don't know, abilities.
Starting point is 00:56:38 I've had, like I said, with this phone call. I do have issues sometimes. where I know things before they happen. And, you know, I don't know why. I've had bizarre things happen in my own home. And so I don't know if it's, but it's usually during times of stress. So I don't know if it's got something to do with that.
Starting point is 00:57:11 But as I say, I can follow up with more stories about this house. Well, go in. In 2021, my mom became very, very sick. And my sister and I had to go home. And we weren't expecting her to pass or live. She was going to pass away. But when we were home, we were there for 36 hours, and my dad passed away.
Starting point is 00:57:43 Oh, my. Yeah. Well, I've got to say it seems like some family, some people and some families, I believe, are more spiritually tuned in or more spiritually aware, and more things seem to happen to them. I certainly think that's a real thing. Yeah. In that time, we were home for five weeks because we had a lot to deal with. My sister and I, my mom did actually do very well.
Starting point is 00:58:14 for a while. And then one day my sister looked at me. She was sitting very quietly and she said, my dad passed away so suddenly that mom was not supposed to live. And I think my dad felt she is leaving. I'm going to go with her. Wow. Wow. I think that's a very real thing as well. Well, Falma, we'll wait to hear more next time. But thank you and thank Randy and thank you for sharing your story tonight on the campfire. I look forward to the next time. Thank you. He's been listening for a few years and now he's going to share his story. It's one of those childhood stories, which I always think are some of the most interesting ones
Starting point is 00:59:04 because they have lasted for decades and yet people still remember them. Like George remembers this story. George, welcome to the show. Thanks for joining us. Tell us what happened. Yeah, thanks for having me, Jim. The story happened about when I was like 11 to 12 years old. We grew up with four children,
Starting point is 00:59:26 so me and my brothers were always packed into the same room a lot of the times. So at this point, me and my little brother were sleeping in the same room and the same bed. And he's only two years younger than me, so he's 10, I'm 12. he's up me and my older siblings we sleepwalk and um my little brother he's had night terrors since he was the little kid so i've seen my mom deal with them um so this one night he was having a night terror you know he's uh talking out loud kind of moving kind of twitching you know it's before he truly got up and started like walking around like he normally does um so i was trying to calm him down and get him to wake up like I'd seen my mom do before.
Starting point is 01:00:19 But when I grabbed his shoulders and started like, hey, wake up, you know, I got to say that like two, three times. And then next thing I know, I was dreaming. And in the dream, we, I was running in the forest. And I look over and I see my little brother next time. to me running in the forest as well. And I don't know it's chasing us, but I just keep running. You know, I just know something's there.
Starting point is 01:00:51 Something's chasing us. And I just keep running. Keep him in my line of sight and just keep running. We're running for maybe a couple of minutes in the dream, maybe longer. You know, it's dream time. So then at some point, we come to a clearing. And in that clearing, There's like a big monolithic, like building.
Starting point is 01:01:16 Huh. There's less of a building more of like a stone structure in the middle of this clearing. And yeah, we're being surrounded by these guys in suits. I didn't really hear what happened. But next thing I know I'm on top of the building looking down at my brother being like grabbed by the guys. and, you know, I don't know what was said, but then I get pushed off the building. And as I'm falling, I wake up. You know, I wake up normally.
Starting point is 01:01:54 It wasn't like a horror movie where you're just like, like. Right. So I just open my eyes, you know, I go and eat breakfast. When my little brother woke up probably 10 minutes later, he came into the kitchen. and came into the living room. I was like, hey, I had this really weird dream. And you were in it.
Starting point is 01:02:14 I was like, okay, what was this dream about? So he tells me how he's being chased by these guys in suits, and they're chasing him. Then they're chasing them through the forest. And at some point, I appear in the dream.
Starting point is 01:02:30 And then he basically tells me the dream I had, but from his perspective. And it was one of the, when he got to the end of it that I really realized I entered his dream somehow. It wasn't my dream that I was having. I was still on the floor when I woke up because I got off the bed to try to wake him up. So, yeah, somehow I entered his dream and continued his dream with him. You know, it's one of those things, dreams, you know, there's obviously a biological and a physiological part to dream.
Starting point is 01:03:09 dreams, you know, certainly, and I've read that it's a way that our mind kind of declutters itself. And I always use this example. You go shop for produce and the next night you're having a dream where you're flying on a head of cabbage. But I also think there's something supernatural about dreams sometimes. I think there's something about the mode that our mind enters into that we are more receptive to the other side. We've had people on who have had these remarkable shared dreams where both people say, I had exactly the same dream.
Starting point is 01:03:47 You entered my dream and they described the same thing. Sometimes, what did they call that in a movie? And they used to do it in all the old sitcoms. They'll show the same story but from different points of view of Rashomon, I believe they call it. And people were report, we were in the same dream, but we were seeing it from our own individual point of view. And I really think there's something to that.
Starting point is 01:04:10 I think there is something supernatural about dreams sometimes, sometimes. What do you think? Yeah, I'm a big believer of that. I've always been a lucid dreamer even when I was a kid. I've stopped trying to control my dreams as I grew up because, you know, it's like, okay, just let it happen. Whatever happens happens. But yeah, I also think since me and my siblings have all had like weird or apparently.
Starting point is 01:04:38 normal happens that maybe there's a link between the people who are like sleepwalk and have night terrors and stuff and this other shared, you know, like dream happening. So to speak. Yeah. Very interesting indeed, George. Very interesting indeed. I think there's something to it. Dreams are not always what they seem.
Starting point is 01:05:05 Thanks for being on the campfire and for sharing your story today. You stay spooky. Thank you for having me, Jim. You stay spooky. One of the scariest things when we talk about these paranormal campfire experiences is shadow people. I don't know if I could get by with seeing just one. But Sarah has seen more than one, and she's going to tell us all about it. Sarah, welcome to the program.
Starting point is 01:05:31 How are you today? Thank you, Jim. I'm good. How are you? Fine. I know you wanted to do a quick shout. out before we got started. So have at it. Yeah, I want to shout out to my husband, Aaron. He is always listening to all my stories and
Starting point is 01:05:49 always been a part of most of them too. Very good. Very good. Well, Aaron, thank you for listening to Sarah's stories and stay spooky. So, Sarah, tell us this story about the shadow people. I'm curious, two of them. Yeah. So, okay, so it was back in about 2011. And my husband now, boyfriend, then we were living in an apartment. It was just a one-bedroom apartment. But basically, where the bathroom was, you could go right and you could go into our bedroom or you could go straight into the bathroom. And there was like a little square hallway area. And well, one night, I happened to wake up. It was. was probably between three and four a.m. And I just needed to go to the restroom. So I get up. And where I laid at in the bed, you would get up.
Starting point is 01:06:48 You'd walk around the foot and you'd come out the door and then turn to go to the bathroom. Well, as I'm going around the bed and I mean, you know, you're groggy. You're just kind of half awake. And I happened to look up. And when I did, standing, like, in the doorway of the bedroom, there were two shadow figures. And all you could see, really? Yeah, it was, as soon as I saw him, I was like, like, it really took my breath away. It really scared me.
Starting point is 01:07:22 And all you could really see, though, was basically, like, your shoulders and the head and then shoulders. And it looked like one was a little bit taller than the other. I immediately ran back in bed like a little kid and I'm laying there under the covers, petrified, thinking whatever this is I saw, it's going to come in the room. And it's, who knows? I mean, all the things are running through your head. I laid there for, I don't know, how many hours waiting for Aaron to actually wake up. And when he did, and I tell him this story, he's like, well, why didn't you wake me up sooner?
Starting point is 01:07:57 And I'm like, I honestly didn't know what you would think, you know. You probably think I'm a little losing it, or maybe I just didn't see anything, and I'm just half awake. So we laid there, and we just kind of were like thinking, okay, well, what could have maybe cast the shadow if, you know, trying to rule out all the things? And, Jim, there was nothing that would have caused this type of an image, the shoulders, the head. Like I said, it looked like two of them that were staying there. And it honestly gave you that feeling, like, as soon as I saw him, that they were just staring at me. So that happened on it would have been an early Sunday morning, like I said, 3 and 4 a.m. Well, this week that we were going into, my husband was actually going to be going out of town for his college trip.
Starting point is 01:08:42 So I was going to be home alone. And instantly I'm like, okay, it's fine, whatever. A little scared being alone just with what I just saw. And I want to say it was like the second night. I just kept having that feeling that somebody's watching me, somebody's watching me. And it got to the point that week of I was having one of my girlfriends come over and stay either the night with me or stay late with me. During this week, I actually had lunch with one of my sisters. And I'm telling my sister about it.
Starting point is 01:09:15 And my sister is very, very big on, like, angels and demons. And she's very much so like if you feel like there's something in your house or whatnot, you know, you need to tell it to leave. That's not welcome. Right. etc. And so one night, girlfriend is over and she stayed, I want to stay till like 12, 30, 1 in the morning. And Jim, just so you know, this whole week, I'm literally sleeping on the couch with the lights on. This is how scared I was. This is how much I felt like somebody was watching me. So she stays there till that late. I know she had to leave because she had something going
Starting point is 01:09:54 on the early the next morning is why. So she left and I'm laying on the couch and my head is that one. And you know the feeling you get when somebody is back her head and they're just kind of like looking down at you and you just have that feeling that somebody is watching you from above? Right. Right. Right. So totally felt that 100% felt like might sound like it might sound like two people constantly just staring at me. So finally, Jim, I just said out loud, I was like, you're not welcome here. You need to leave. I'm not just not welcome here. And I kid you not that I've never had this feeling really before where it felt like I could breathe.
Starting point is 01:10:41 It felt like just this weight lifted off of me. And the feeling of somebody watching completely vanished. Like so much so, I ended up getting up. off the light and then went to sleep that night. Never had any issues in that apartment again, but the funny thing is probably a year after this, one of our friends actually moved into that apartment building in the exact same apartment. And she just happened to be talking to me one day. And I had not told her this story. But she had be, she was just talking to me one day. She's like, did you guys ever have anything weird happen in your apartment? And I'm like,
Starting point is 01:11:21 like what and she's like well like maybe cupboards opening just constantly feeling like somebody is there and so then i tell her this story he's like i've been having that same feeling like somebody's watching me so i don't know what it was about maybe it was the interability maybe it was that specific apartment but clearly there was something there and it wasn't just me experiencing it but i mean to this day i can still envision exactly what i saw those two figures like i said one tall and the I mean, it was petrifying. It scared me. Like I said, I was like, so.
Starting point is 01:11:55 But yeah, that's my short little story about that shadow figure incident. Well, but I, I, I, I, pretty, pretty well. Yeah, I can tell you, that is pretty well. Do you have any sense of who it was? Do you think you know who or what it was? I mean, it was there, you know, the, the, the, the things progressed as they did. It went away. but any thought of who it was?
Starting point is 01:12:23 Honestly, no. I mean, because I know I've talked with you before on a few other episodes, and I've had experiences where, like, I feel like it could be the dad or a grandpa like that. But this time, it just, I did not have any of those feelings. I just felt scared, and I just felt like it's watching me. Yeah, that is scary. That is scary. And it's like, that's the thing.
Starting point is 01:12:50 I think some of the most terrifying stories we have are from nighttime because you think about it, that's when you let your guard down. You know, you're in bed, you're likely exhausted, you're tired, and you're just like, ah, this is finally the place I can relax. And then for something to intrude on that. That's one of the most terrifying things. Yeah. Well, I don't know what they are, but they certainly exist. Enough people tell us about them. Sarah, thank you so much for joining us today.
Starting point is 01:13:19 I appreciate it. You have a great day and stay spooky. Thanks so much, Jim. Stay spooky. Oh, I love to hear from Return Callers. James is just such a person from Canada. And he's going to talk to us about a spirit. James, welcome to the show.
Starting point is 01:13:42 Tell us what happened. Oh, thanks, Jim. Thanks for having me again. And yeah, this was probably when I was in my early 20s. I was taking a break from college, you know, summer break. And I decided not to move back with my parents at that time. Instead, I actually moved in with one of my cousins. And he was actually built, just finishing building his own house, believe it or not.
Starting point is 01:14:14 And so parts of the house was unfinished. And, but anyways, so, you know, I was coming home late one night from my work. You know, I put in a few hours over time. And when I got to my cousin's place, I noticed that, you know, he still had the lights on. And his car was in the driveway. And what I walked in, you know, I called out his name and got in. and got in a response. And, you know, I went up to, went up to the stairs to the bedrooms.
Starting point is 01:14:50 Of course, he had the master bedroom and I knocked down the door there and and called out his name. And then I opened the door and he wasn't there. So I assumed that he probably went to visit one of our family members down the road. And so he probably walked there. And then so I rushed, or I didn't rush. I went back downstairs to the kitchen. you know, to grab my dinner that he left out from me.
Starting point is 01:15:15 And then my mom happened to phone. You know, my mom's no longer with us, but when she was alive, she actually phoned me around that time. And I don't know if you remember, but I guess this was probably like in the 80s, late 80s, when we had the cordless phones. Yes, the big ones, the big honking cordless phones. Yeah, I remember those well.
Starting point is 01:15:38 My cousin had one of those phones. It's all I answered. and was my mom just checking in on me, wondering know how it was doing and all that. And then in the middle of our conversation, all of a sudden I started hearing footsteps in my cousin's bedroom. And I said, oh, that's strange. And my mom was asking me what's going on.
Starting point is 01:15:59 And I said, well, our cousin's not home. And I hear footsteps in his bedroom. And then I walked from the kitchen towards the bottom. I'm on the stairs to the bedrooms. And I said hello. And then I called out my cousin's name again and no answer. And then the freakiest part was all of a sudden I could hear the footsteps walking towards the bedroom door.
Starting point is 01:16:26 And then all of a sudden the steps were outside of the door at the top of the steps. And then slowly the footsteps started happening down the stairs. And I kind of freaked out and ran into the kitchen. and almost jumped, what do you call it, those kitchen aisles in the kitchen. And I almost wanted to jump over there, jump over that to protect myself from this. And my mom was like, she was saying, stay calm, stay calm. You know, she was walking me through this at that time when I still had her on the phone. And then all of a sudden I kept hearing the steps, put steps coming down the stairs.
Starting point is 01:17:07 and I kind of had a flashback when I was telling this story about, do you remember that movie, Parano Activity? Yeah. There was that scene when they had those, you know, when that couple had the footsteps walking down their hallway towards their bedroom. Right. And that's what it reminded me of, right? But, of course, the, you know, the steps weren't that heavy, you know, like in the movie.
Starting point is 01:17:33 And so this was actually a lighter person, I think. And then my mom just, you know, for some reason, my mom says, don't be afraid, don't be afraid. And then she says, talk to it, you know, and I go, talk to it. Why would I want to talk to it? And then so I just said, hello. And then all of a sudden the footsteps, you know, stopped. And I guess it was at the bottom of the stairs at the time. And then I said, who's there? and then my, you know, my mom's, you know, asks, says, ask another question. I said, are you looking for someone? I said, asked. And then, and then all of a sudden the steps, the footsteps continue down these small set of steps there to the front entrance
Starting point is 01:18:24 of my cousin's house. And then, and then all of a sudden it stopped. And so I think, the spirit that was walking down the stairs left my cousin's house. And of course, I'm a bit freaked out still, right? Sure. And then my mom was calming me down again. And then later that evening, I couldn't go back upstairs, right? I ended up sleeping on the couch in my cousin's living room. And then my cousin rolled in around 1 o'clock.
Starting point is 01:18:57 And he noticed that I was there. He goes, oh, because why are you sleeping in the couch? And I said, oh, man, I don't know if I should tell you this, but I got spooked by something. I told him, right? And then my cousin had this weird, or not weird, he had a little grin on his face. And he looked at him and he goes, so I'm not the only one. Oh. That even freaked me out even more, right?
Starting point is 01:19:27 And, but I told him that, you know, I told him the whole story again about it. And, and he, he said to me, he goes, oh, my God, he goes, you had more of a close encounter than I did. Oh, boy. And he's, he was telling me a little story about, you know, that he would hear footsteps, you know, when he was sleeping. Like, he would hear footsteps downstairs. He would hear footsteps in his rec room that he was finishing. And, but he never said he. never had that much of a close encounter. He would, he said he just wouldn't hear footsteps
Starting point is 01:20:00 around, you know, throughout the house. And I think the other thing he told me to is that he used to always hear the dishes or cups, you know, clinking in the cup cup. And so that was his experience. But he said that I had, I tended to have more of a close encounter experience than he did. So yeah. So that, you know, that was by, encounter with the spirit in my cousin's house. Do you think you're, I mean, I know you had that story a few years ago about your uncle and imaginary friend and so forth. Do you think you're a little more tuned in to this kind of thing than most people?
Starting point is 01:20:45 Yeah, I guess I think I am. A lot of my family members are as well. You know, we would share stories about, you know, certain encounters throughout our lives. And, yeah. James, thank you for being on the show. Stay spooky. All right, you too. Stay spooky, Jim. Thanks for having me again. You know I love head scratchers and we've got one for us today. Leslie Joe is calling us from Washington State. You know, when I saw this, I'm like, ooh, this is my kind of story. I got to know what's going on here. So Leslie Joe is going to tell us all about it.
Starting point is 01:21:22 She is a relatively new listener, just been listening several months and a plus club member. So we thank her, she's really come to bat. She's a plus club member and she is a storyteller. And by the way, we need your stories. Jimherald.com slash campfire to sign up for them like Leslie Joe did. And we're going to hear this head scratcher. Leslie Joe, you know I love those head scratchers. Lay it on us.
Starting point is 01:21:47 Tell us what happened. All right. Well, I was in college in Colorado going to community college and had a really interesting professor who, he was sociology and he taught some history classes. And I took history of Western religion from him, but he was super into aliens. And so it really had a lot of really good, like biblical references that he's like, these are aliens coming, stuff like that. but I heard that he took a group of students to the Southwest to do archaeological mapping and that sort of thing. And then he would show you all these things in Chaco Canyon and that kind of thing.
Starting point is 01:22:30 And so I signed up for that class to go on this trip. And we were in northern Colorado. And so we all drove down to Gallup, New Mexico, and met there. And the first night, I didn't know most of the people on the trip, but we all got together and we're going to go to dinner. and there was one person missing. And so, you know, people were talking about him and whatever. But, you know, he wasn't there and they weren't sure that he was coming or whatever.
Starting point is 01:22:59 And so we packed into a couple vehicles and we're going to dinner. And on the way there, I saw this really interesting building. It was like the Indian Mission. 50 is really cool. And I thought, you know, I'm going to get up really early tomorrow morning and come see how the light. is when it's coming up and get some pictures of this building. And so we got back next morning, got up really early, went over and parked across. It was like the highway in town from this building and sat and waited for the sun to come up, watch the light and all that, and snapped a
Starting point is 01:23:39 couple pictures. And then this guy, this like homeless looking guy with a big duffel bag started walking up the hill toward the mission. I thought, oh, this is great. So I got a couple pictures of him. And then before he actually got to the mission, he saw me, and he turned around and started crossing the highway toward me. And I thought, oh, I'm not sure. This is good.
Starting point is 01:24:04 So I just stood there and was waiting. But he walked up to me, and he definitely looked homeless and bedraggled and came right up to me and said, hi. I said, hi. He said, I'm looking for some people.
Starting point is 01:24:26 And I said, well, I know some people. They said, yeah, there's this group with Bill Hosey, and that was the professor that I was waiting to meet, or, you know, that we were on this trip with. And I said,
Starting point is 01:24:43 I can take you there. And he totally freaked out. And he said, yeah, I was supposed to meet them. I don't know where they are. And he was this guy, his name's Johnny, who was going to ride his motorcycle down. And then he and his girlfriend got in a fight. She took his motorcycle.
Starting point is 01:25:02 So he had hitchhiked from Northern Colorado down to Gallup, New Mexico. And it's just, it's one of those, like, coincidence things that you like as well. Because there's, you know, why would I see this building and think, I'm going to go take a picture of it and then be waiting at the exact moment that he just wanders up. And it took him a long time because what used to be the highway that ran north-south in New Mexico to Gallup was Highway 666, by the way. And so like nobody picked him up. And they've since changed the name. But yeah, so I said, yeah, I take you there.
Starting point is 01:25:46 And he just was totally freaked out. Oh, wow. And Bill says really weird stuff always happens on these trips. And I say, yeah, he told me that too. So that was my first one. So I put him in my car and we drove him back to the hotel that we were at. And everybody was having breakfast in the hotel. And you're like, oh, my God, you found Johnny.
Starting point is 01:26:07 How did that happen? I don't know. You know, so that was just the beginning of that trip, but that was that was a definite too much of a coincidence for sure. Now, was there something where he, is this where he didn't know where he was or he didn't know where he was in Gallup? Well, he knew that we were meeting in Gallup, but I don't think he knew what hotel we were at or anything. And he had missed the time. Ah, I see. Which was the night before.
Starting point is 01:26:38 and had just been hitchhiking for a day and a half. Very strange. Very strange. And you just happen to find him. You just happen to find him. Yeah, that is weird how things kind of work out like that. Sometimes I think that we as humans have like pigeons. You know how carrier pigeons have like a homing device?
Starting point is 01:27:02 I do believe there's something to that. And I think we've all experienced something where maybe we've gotten something. separated in a crowd. Maybe it was before cell phones or, you know, cell phone isn't working. And yet you find your people. It's almost like you have like a homing sense. I do believe there's something to that with humans or you hear about dogs that will get lost thousands of miles away and then they'll somehow come back. I think there's something to it, Leslie. I really do. I think of it as like using the force. Yeah. That's what we used to do before cell phones. That's true. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:38 Well, may the force be with you and stay spooky, and thank you for sharing your story today on the campfire. Thanks, Jim. Stay spooky.
