The Hatman returns up next on Jim Harold's Campfire.
Sit back, relax, and warm yourself by Jim Harold's Campfire.
Taylor is on the line from Colorado, and she's been listening.
She said for eight or nine years.
She looks too young to be listening for eight or nine years.
Well, we're so glad to have her with us.
Taylor, I appreciate it.
And you have a story about something haunted.
I'll let you tell people about it, my goodness.
Tell us what happened.
Thanks, Jim.
I'm really excited to be on the show.
I've listened for a long time and honestly always wish I had something to call in about,
but it just, you know, happens when you least expect it.
Yeah.
But so this happened about a few years ago.
My boyfriend and I were looking for an apartment to live in here and done.
We hadn't lived with each other yet before, so it was our first apartment together.
And a friend of mine notified me about somebody in her apartment building moving out.
And it was a older Victorian-style home built in about the 1890s, somewhere in there.
I've always been drawn to history and character.
And even though I'm always been interested in paranormal, I actually have to say going into looking at the apartment, I had no, it really didn't cross my mind.
I didn't have that sense going in it, touring it.
I just, it never really crossed my mind.
But living in the apartment for about almost about a month at that point, my boyfriend and I experienced.
like one of our first paranormal or kind of weird experiences.
Leading up to that point, not a single thing had happened, but we were watching a movie
and the movie finished and we were sitting in our living room and it was got a little bit
dark because we had all the lights off, the movie finished, but we just were talking about
the movie and then just ended up talking about all sorts of stuff and we just were having a fun
time being in their new apartment. And we also were enjoying the fact that the top of the living
room, because of this old Victorian home, it went really high ceilings with skylights.
So we were enjoying like the moon coming through. And again, it was just a positive experience until all
of the sudden, I experienced something that I've never had happened to me before, which was
just this overwhelming feeling of fear came over me in the moment. And I just had this overall
sense that there was something else with us in the room. And I just got really scared and
didn't really know how to describe the feeling to my boyfriend at the time. But I was so scared
to open my eyes. I ended up closing my eyes because I knew that if I were to open my eyes again,
I might see something that was there, the presence that I felt. I was so nervous of seeing it.
So I kept my eyes closed and I made my boyfriend go turn the lights on. I said,
please just go turn him on, turn them on. So he goes and turn the lights on and I said,
I'm sorry, I just have a weird feeling, but let's just go to bed.
So it wasn't until the next day that I felt comfortable explaining to him the feeling I was having because in that moment I was too scared to talk about it.
So I ended up explaining to him that I actually felt in my mind I could visualize the presence that I felt that I felt.
and it sounds so crazy, but it was in the form of like a gargoyle.
Oh, man. Ooh. You're giving me chills. I know.
Yeah. And it sounds, it's hard to say that because I didn't actually see it with my own eyes,
but it was so strong in my mind. And it was so, I felt so confident that it was there.
something I didn't mention was because those really high ceilings that we had,
and there was like a brick that went all the way up,
that was like the old fireplace that ran through the whole house,
multi-level elements.
And above that was like a little ledge,
which we ended up putting a bunch of books up there.
And partially because that empty shelf,
that's where in my mind this present,
was or
Oh my goodness.
Kind of what seemed like in my mind and I don't know where I would have gotten this
imagery from and it was all of the sudden.
But the craziest part about it is my boyfriend said he felt the same way and he didn't
want to tell me in the moment because he didn't want to make us even more scared.
Right.
But he also felt exactly what I was.
what I had experienced.
Wow.
So that was the first experience.
And then a few more things happened while we live there.
So it was just a constant feeling like there one moment you're just living your life.
You're not thinking about anything.
And then it's just all of a sudden you have the sense that you're not alone.
And I've never felt that way until I lived in that apartment.
My boyfriend experienced that all the time as well.
One other thing that happened to me personally was one night we're laying in bed,
getting ready to go to bed, and my cat always comes and lays on me every night before I go to sleep.
And she's laying on my chest, and I just felt like, well, she was acting a little weird.
She kept looking in different areas.
And I just assumed it was like a bug that she's.
saw or something.
But it kind of freaked me out a little bit just because it felt like she did it a bunch of
times, but I tried to just brush it off.
So I'm petting her and I'm also simultaneously looking on my phone.
And while I'm petting her, Jim, I swear I felt something touch my hand.
And it spooked me enough that I just, you know, it felt it just didn't feel.
like I was making it up. So I tried to, I even told my boyfriend in the moment, I'm like, I'm so
scared. And he's like, we're just on the verge of going to sleep. And he's like, just try to get
to some sleep. And I said, you're right. Let me go to bed. And I remember thinking, well,
if I go to bed, then I'll wake up and it'll be like nothing happened. But that was the night that
after I fell asleep, I ended up opening my eyes to something really scary sitting on my bed that night.
Wow.
The face was, yeah, and it was pretty quick because I ended up immediately going back into my covers and my pillow and closing my eyes again.
but it was a very, very uncomfortable face.
I've described it as like demon-like.
Wow.
And how it looked.
You know, I can't say for sure that what I saw wasn't something that I
maybe kind of almost dreamt because I was in the sleep state.
the feeling that I had was so, I haven't experienced fear like that, to be honest.
I was crying and I was just, I was panicking because I couldn't believe how scared I felt
in that moment.
And the only thing I could do and what I thought to do was I put my head back, you know,
I was under the covers.
and I just kept saying in my head, get out of my house, get out of my house.
I visualized going and opening the door and making it get out.
Wow.
Yeah.
And then just one last little, I guess, thing that stands out to me of experiences when we live there was, again, we always kind of felt here and there like someone walked into the room,
even though the other person was either out of the house or was in the other room and had it moved.
But little things like that happen all the time where you felt like you heard somebody come in the apartment or walk across or you felt like you saw something pass.
But it wasn't the other person.
But there was a night that I was sleeping and my boyfriend stayed up a little bit later than I did playing video games.
and he was in the dark and he had headphones on and was kind of just locked into the game he was playing.
And he said that he thought that I came up behind him and put my hand on his shoulder.
But I was fast asleep and he got really spooked by that because he came running in and said,
did you just come and try to say, you know, try to get my attention?
And I said, I just woke up.
I was like, no, I was starting to fall asleep.
I've been laying here the whole time.
And he said that it was just undoubtedly something put his hand, put their hand on his shoulder.
But it wasn't me.
Huh.
Well, let me ask you, this place, I mean, did you know anything about the, I mean, my goodness, all
the things that you just recounted amazing, even one of those would be amazing, along all these
series of them.
Yeah.
And terrifying.
Did you know anything about the place?
thing that would have like explained some of this?
So I definitely didn't at the time.
We honestly didn't do much research at the time while living there.
I don't know if I was worried about something I'd find out,
but I ended up doing research on it after and I still couldn't find anything unusual.
obviously being, you know, home built before 1900, it's definitely older.
So it has history.
But nothing stood out to me that would lead me to think that or have a reason for it to be
specifically haunted.
But doing my research, I saw that, you know, that the neighborhood that we were in in
general, there are haunted homes.
And we also were really close to.
like truly a block away from a hospital.
And I've heard a couple people talk about how we could have experienced some,
we could have been picking up on some spirits from there.
And that makes a little more sense to me just because of the fact that I felt like
it would always come and go, the presence.
And it never felt the same.
It felt like different types of presences.
And they would really come and go just as,
fast as they'd get there, they'd leave. Or I'd also ask them to leave.
Well, I got to tell you, that is, you've got a lot more courage than I have. You've got a
lot more courage than I here, because I could have never stood up to that. My goodness.
My goodness. I'm guessing you were kind of glad to get out of there. We were. Yeah.
I will say some of it died down a little bit towards the end of us living there.
I think that I really just tried to keep positive energy in the space that we lived in.
The woman who lived in the apartment before us, she lived there for about 10 years.
So there's also a part of me that feels like her leaving that apartment could have brought on some of, you know, some disruption.
Just they might have been, there could have been something so used to her presence for,
so long. But yeah, we were glad. We were glad to get out of there. Well, thank you for listening
all these years for sharing this amazing experience and stay spooky. Thanks, Jim. Stay spooky.

She's a pistol.
And I think you will enjoy her perspective.
She brings a fresh and different look at it than I do.
And sometimes we even argue a little bit.
But it's a lot of fun.
I think you'll enjoy it.
And I think you'll enjoy this next.
Can't Fire's story.
Julie is on the line from New York.
She listened for a while and she kind of got away and then she found her way back,
which is the important thing.
And it's very important that she's come on the show to share her story.
And, oh, this sounds like a frightening one, Julie.
Thank you so much for joining us from New York.
Tell us what happened.
Thank you so much for having me.
So I grew up in Portland, Oregon.
I spent my weekends going to my best friend's father's house.
He had a house in North Portland on Mohawk Street.
There was always lots of activity in this house.
We were told that it was haunted.
Her father and his husband would say, you know, oh, this happened, that happened.
But we had never seen anything personally over the years.
We believed them, but we never personally saw anything.
But mostly the activity was on the second floor of the house.
Now this was a pretty old house for Portland.
One of those houses that every room you go into has a door.
So very closed off.
We were downstairs in what they called the library.
I had a bunch of books and a small TV.
We were watching TV, stayed up late.
We both fell asleep, a hard, hard sleep,
woke up, went up to the second floor to her bedroom.
Now, her bedroom is shaped like an L. So the long part of the L was all these big windows on the whole wall that overlooked the backyard.
The short part of the L, a queen-sized bed fit in there with just enough room for someone to walk down each side.
So really, just so you could get into the bed and out.
So we're exhausted. We get upstairs, get in the bed, and then,
I'm thinking she's already back asleep, but I look at the end of the bed and there's a man
standing at the end of the bed on my side. And I'm trying to rationalize this. I'm like, okay,
it's a shadow coming in through the window. Then I start focusing on the windows and I'm like,
it's definitely not a shadow. A shadow can't cast back into the house like that from where the light is
downstairs and it's a very distinct figure. So I describe it. It was like it was like if somebody
took a cardboard cut out of someone and painted it just flat black. I couldn't see any features.
I definitely could not see through it. But it was a tall, just the feeling I got was a man.
It was a tall man in like a trench coat, the very squared shoulders and a hat, like a wide-brammed hat, not like a cowboy hat, and not a top hat, but just a wide-brammed hat.
You could see.
Like a fedora.
Like a fedora.
Very distinct, this figure.
Yes, yes, exactly.
So I watched it for as long as I could.
I was actually terrified to move.
I felt like if I closed my eyes, it would, if I opened my eyes.
as it would be in my face. I never saw it move. I stayed awake for as long as I could. I don't know.
Maybe it was like 20 minutes. I honestly don't know. But as soon as we woke up in the morning,
we woke up at the same time, my friend and I both like word by word. I was like, did you see that?
She was like, oh my God. I'm like at the end of the bed. She's like on your side. I'm like hat.
She said coat. We both booked it downstairs so fast. I have chills right now. Like reflecting back.
on this. I never saw that again, but it was definitely, we both saw it. We both had the same
overwhelming feeling of being afraid to move, being afraid to say anything. It wasn't,
I don't know if it was like a curiosity feeling that I was getting from it, but it wasn't the
most friendly, but I can't say that it was negative either. But it's an image I've
never left my mind. And then it's, as I got older and the internet came about, I remembered
the story and I looked it up. And what really chilled me to like the core is people have accounts
of the same thing from all over the place. And they call it the hat man. Yep. I was just about
to say the hat man. And it is interesting because it has this trench coat look. It's got the hat.
And it's just, and it's weird how it's the same thing.
You would think that it's slightly different, but they have, I mean, you gave pretty much the textbook description of the Hatman.
Do you have any, I mean, after looking all this stuff up and thinking about it, what do you, you said it wasn't particularly nasty, but it wasn't particularly friendly.
What do you think it was?
Do you have any idea, any speculation, any theories were, as Julie?
Well, around that time, it kind of became a tumultuous period for my friend. And I did see some reports that it would come when people are kind of at a crossroads. She unfortunately, you know, had some not so great things happen, some not so great choices. That was also kind of the ending of our friendship. I became actually closer with her older sister. So I was still with the family all the time. It was just, it was.
a major transition point in our life looking back. Other than that, I can't really say. The only
other thing that stands out is after that event for the next four weekends, we did experience
a lot of other things that we can't explain in the house. Like heavy breathing right behind us,
doors that we knew were shut being opened,
different things like that,
and not on the second floor, on the main floor.
And then it just abruptly stopped again for us.
Just weird stuff.
The thing is, is that I think sometimes, you know,
people feel they have to have a solution
if they tell their story.
But no, just knowing it exists
and other people, I'm sure, are listening and said,
I saw them too.
You know, just that I think is so helpful.
Yeah.
Julie, thank you so much for joining us today around the campfire and sharing your story.
We appreciate it.
And stay spooky.
Thank you.
Stay spooky.
Have a great day.
Bye-bye.
Well, we thank the algorithm because Brooke found us through the Spotify algorithm.
Our show kind of popped up.
She said, yeah, that looks good to me.
And here she is telling her story.
Now, I got to tell you something pretty cool.
You just heard Julie's story, right, about the Hatman?
And this was not prearranged.
Guess what Brooke story is about?
She's going to tell you, but I think you know already.
Brooke, welcome to the show.
So glad you found us on Spotify.
And tell us what happened.
Yes.
So in 2006, my dad and my sister and I moved into a house built in the 1960s.
And I had the bedroom up the hallway.
And it was a ranch house.
So my bedroom was on one side of the house and theirs was on the other side.
And I remember one night I was sleeping in my bedroom.
Well, I was laying in my bed going to sleep.
And I get this overwhelming sensation, like, panic attack, but I wasn't having a panic attack.
And I look up in the left-hand corner of where my door is, and I see this dark mass.
And it's, like, darker than dark, right?
Because it's, you know, all the lights are off.
And I sort of just ignored it and just shrugged it off because in my adolescent mind,
there was nothing, there was no information I didn't know what, what that was. So fast, so this is about 2006 era. So let's fast forward because nothing happened that I remember until about like 2012.
12, like, that's when I graduated high school, you know, kind of going into college.
I believe that was the time era.
And I started having sleep paralysis.
And when I first started having it, I would get really anxious because I would call out for my dad.
and, you know, like, nobody would hear me.
I couldn't move.
And it was pretty scary.
And I had it enough.
I had the sleep paralysis enough times to where I started recognizing what was happening.
Right.
And I actually started praying the Our Father, who art in heaven, that prayer.
The Lord's Prayer, yeah.
The Lord's Prayer.
yeah um and because um i i remember listening to a podcast one of the podcasts previously and
they they kind of mentally said show yourself and i never thought to do that um because i didn't
want to see anything um right i i just i didn't know if it was good or bad i just started praying
and every time after that, that I would have sleep paralysis, I would just immediately just start
praying.
And to go along with that, I not only had sleep paralysis, but I would have lucid dreams.
Right.
And the lucid dreams, they always seemed like I was running away from something.
Huh.
When I would come to in my dreams and I something, I just, the same feeling where I, where I was scared, I needed to get away.
And at first when I started lucid dreaming, I, yeah, it was weird.
Like I was like, oh, I'm dreaming.
I can just jump and fly away.
I can make up a car and, you know, get in that car and drive away.
it was, uh, it was, it was, it was bizarre. Um, and it, and Jim, it only, it only occurred to me
recently after I started listening to your podcast that, that these, that, that this dark mass and
these dreams could be related. Right. Um, but in the, these dreams, I never saw a hat man. Like,
I never, I don't remember, I remember seeing people, but I can't remember, you know, faces or I just remember feelings, emotions, and like knowing I needed to get away.
And so, and the thing of it is, is it was after I moved out of this house that I stopped lucid dreaming and I stopped.
having sleep paralysis.
So since I moved out, I haven't, I have not struggled with either of those things.
So, but the first time you did see a hat man type figure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm sorry.
I interrupted you.
Go ahead, finish your thought.
I'm sorry.
Oh, no, no.
That's okay.
But, but, yeah, it's only been recently that I, that, that.
that I kind of connected because, you know, in my dreams, I was always running away from something.
I was always scared until either I remembered I was dreaming and I could get to a safer place.
It was just a really weird experience.
I don't have an explanation for it, but it.
you know um just just kind of like a weird experience um and i guess i can add i was under a lot of
like stress and emotional stress right so at the time of my life so i think that made it more
uh i was more vulnerable um to you know to that to this dark figure um and
And he kind of, yeah, he kind of infiltrated my dreams in that way.
So you think that there was some connection to the stress, which, well, you tell me you feel there was a connection to the stress?
Absolutely, yeah.
I mean, I've heard that when things are stressful, particularly adolescents, that there tends to be more activity.
and it all kind of goes together.
So how would you describe the hat man in terms of his look again?
Can you give us that description again?
Well, you know, I only saw, like, okay, so he, the, an average door, doorframe, he was, like, bending over into my bedroom.
like in the crack of my door.
And so extremely tall, extremely dark.
I don't remember any other features.
So whether or not it was the Hatman or not,
it was this large towering dark figure.
And that's...
I don't really remember a face, but it happened so fast that, yeah, and it was such a long time ago.
Sure.
But, yeah, that's what I remember.
So now things have settled down since you left that place.
Things have settled down.
Yes, yeah.
I'm in a much better place, emotional.
and I live, yeah, I live in a different place.
And yeah, and I'm grateful that it's over with.
I hope not, you know, I hope talking about it doesn't bring on anything.
But, yeah, I've come, like I go to church and, you know, I have a relationship with Jesus.
So I feel like that's been life-changing.
emotionally, but also spiritually.
So, yeah, so I'm grateful for that.
And grateful that I don't have those anymore.
Well, we're grateful that you joined us today.
I appreciate.
Thank you for sharing your story.
That could be terrifying.
I mean, for anybody at any age, let alone somebody so young, that's one of the things.
And it seems to happen, I think, you know, it seems to happen a lot among young people.
You know, a lot of young people report this.
So so glad that that is past and everything is going well.
Brooke, thank you for joining us today and stay spooky.
Thank you, Jim.
Stay spooky.
Next up on the campfire, we have a long time listener.
Amanda's been with us with the campfire since 2009 from the very beginning.
And she has a story that happened to her surrounding the tragic.
events of September 11th, 2001. And we've had that many times on the shows. We've had many people
who had strange experiences following that horrible event. Amanda, thank you for listening for all these
years and tell us what happened. Thank you. So it was the Saturday night before September
11th. And I was about 19 years old, I think. I might have just turned 20. I can't. I'm not sure.
And I was in my first year of college, and I didn't go out that night, had a quiet night at home with my family, and I fell asleep.
I've always had weird dreams, but I never know what type of dream it's going to be.
Like, most of my premonition dreams just come across like regular dreams.
So I never know if they're premonitions or not.
So I fell asleep that night, and I started having a regular weird dream.
I was dreaming that I was taking kids on a field trip in a big city.
And we were all wearing Halloween costumes for whatever reason.
And we were walking down the city streets and we entered a big building.
I've never been to New York before.
So I was not recognizing what city I was in.
Right.
And we go into the building and we go into an elevator.
And at this point, the kids are gone and with other teachers.
We get into the elevator and we're going, we're planning to go up to the top of the building to like,
observe and sightsee. And we get into the elevator and once we get really high in the building,
the elevator starts falling. And we all start freaking out. Elevator stops. We get out. We're all okay,
right? And for whatever reason, we get back in the elevator and we go up to the top floor.
And again, I'd never been to New York or the Twin Tower. So it wasn't, even in my dream, I was like,
where am I? Like, I couldn't, I couldn't figure out where I was. So we get to the top of this building and we go out
where they have the observation deck
and they've got the binoculars and stuff
so we're out there
just observing looking around
again I'm trying to figure out where I am
but I'm like this is super cool we're on the top of a building
and while we're up there
we watch
a plane fly into the building right next to us
and it is so close
I can see the people on the plane
and I can see
like the logo
and like I couldn't read it because
and a lot of dreams I can't read.
Like, I can see the letters, but I can't read it.
So I don't know if it was United or American Airlines, but it was those colors.
And I was even saying like that looks like, you know, a plane, a commercial airplane.
And we see it crash into the building.
Everyone starts freaking out.
And so we all start, okay, let's go back inside so we can go next door to help.
And we all start running back inside.
And I start running.
And then the building shakes, like something.
crashes into our building. We didn't see it. The building shakes. We all fall. And we get back up. We all start running again. We're all screaming. And it was this nurse steps in front of me. And it was weird because it was not like a woman in scrubs like you would see in 2001, right? It was she was wearing like an old-timey nurse's uniform. And she grabbed me by both arms. And she stopped me. And she's like, Amanda, you've got to stop. You've got to stop. You can't keep running. And I was like, what do you mean?
like, why are you telling me to stop?
And she says, look down.
And I looked down and there was, it was a huge piece of shrapnel from the airplane, like a huge piece of metal.
And I just remember looking down and then everything went white.
And that's when I woke up.
And I woke up like in full tears.
Like I just thought it was the most horrible, it was, it was the most horrible nightmare I had ever, ever experienced.
And yeah, I woke up that night.
I remember I think even that night I told my mom like right away because I was just like,
what the heck?
That was such a messed up dream.
And then two days later when it actually happened, thank God I slept in that morning
because I think if I had been awake watching it live, I think I might have had like a mental breakdown.
Like I had PTSD for about six months after that.
I couldn't get to elevator.
I went to my campus, my university, uh, psychologist.
or whoever they have on staff and I talked to them and it was it was the worst like when I woke up that morning and I heard what had happened it was it was the worst the worst feeling in the world and I know listening to some of your past callers like they would like they wanted to call the FBI or call authorities right number one it didn't even register to me that that was going to happen that it was a genetic dream and if it had been like I'd watch me
medium. Like, I wasn't going to...
Right.
I was going to take you. Yeah, they're not going to take you seriously. Yeah.
Yeah. What I told our one caller and Mark with that, and I think that's the story you're
calling. He was felt very guilty. He didn't call somebody. He's like, A, they wouldn't have
believed you. There is no way they would have believed him. No way. They would have just said,
oh, this is just, and I'm going to use the phrase, because that's what they say. This is
just another nut. Although he was the most sane person, you know, but, but, but, but, but,
The other thing would be once it happened, they would have said, how did you know that?
And then when he says, well, I had this dream, they're like, yeah, right?
How did you really know?
You know, so.
How did you?
Yeah.
Yeah, I kind of know one situation.
Go ahead.
Yeah.
And I remember like right after that, Art Bell was calling for people to submit if they had any
dreams or premonitions.
And he put my, my dream up on his website.
I was like the first or second one he had posted up.
So that was cool.
But I mean, it was like a bummer thing to be right about.
So what do you think?
I mean, are you generally more sensitive to these things?
Was this one time happening?
Why do you think it happened?
What are your thoughts on?
It happens a lot to me now, especially.
I feel like I know it happened a couple times before that, but after that one, it was a lot more prominent.
Like open you up?
Yeah, but, and you know, I was even listening to another podcast recently, like, mysterious, is it mysterious radio?
There might be one by that.
There was a lot of podcasts.
Yeah.
There was a mysterious universe and.
Yeah, I might have been that one, but she was interviewing a gentleman who used to be FBI or CIA or something.
And he had even mentioned how a lot of people experienced like spiritual awakenings because of September 11th or around that time.
which I thought was really interesting.
But yeah, it's a prominent thing with me.
But that's the thing.
I never know when it's like prophetic dream
because it's always a weird,
there's always weird elements in it.
Right.
It's not like a one to one.
You know, there might be a flying squirrel or something in it.
Something like that.
Yeah.
Or it'll be like weird.
Like roles will be changed because I know like I dropped my grandpa died,
but in my dream he was alive and my sister had died.
And he told me like I was crying on his shoulder and he told me like,
I, you know, meha, it's me that died, not your sister.
And then I woke up and he died that night.
So that's the kind of stuff that's, it's pretty normal in my life.
Well, it seems like you have this ability to tune in.
Thank you so much for sharing the story with us.
Thank you for listening all these years.
Thank you.
Of course, stay spooky.
Stay spooky, Jim.
Thank you so much.
We've had many listeners talk about this particular event and things.
that surrounded this particular event. We just had one earlier tonight. And honestly, it's very
odd how these line up. Again, when people sign up to be, and we don't say tell your story
on this date or that date or those kind of things. It's just a generic story to tell short story.
Well, during this recording session that this was recorded during, we had two calls on the same
subject. And M is going to tell us about her experience. M. joining us from Washington State.
you so much. I appreciate it. Tell us what happened. Hi, Jim. Thanks for having me on the show.
So this story took place back in 2001 on September 10th and 11th. I was in New York City with a friend
the night before the tragedy, celebrating my birthday, which is actually on the 11th. We were walking
right under the towers when my friend asked, can you imagine if these fell? I dismissed him
thinking it was a random comment to make, and we continued on. The next morning, I was back at my
parents' house in New Jersey after hearing the news that the towers had fallen. My parents went to a
nearby service for those who had passed, so I was at the house alone at that point. I walked into my
bedroom and picked something off the floor while noticing a very large orb of light on a 16 by 20
photograph that I had taken years prior of the New York City skyline. The light quickly moved
from the wall across the ceiling and flew down to the opposite wall, making a
wishing sound, almost like a plane. And at that point, yeah, at that point, it became a three-dimensional
light, almost like a ball, and it got sucked into the socket where a lamp was plugged in
on that opposite side, on that opposite wall. And the bulb burned out. It was pretty intense.
It was pretty intense, pretty memorable. You know, I remember being completely
frozen for a moment, unable, you know, to figure out what was going on and kind of questioning
what I saw and heard. I've never seen anything like it. It's crazy. It's stuck with me since.
I've told several people about it. Yeah, it was a pretty, pretty amazing experience and kind of scary.
What do you make of it? What do you think happened?
So I wonder if it could have been people who have, who had passed, or someone, maybe a spirit.
of someone in the vicinity, maybe in the neighborhood,
I do know that there were some folks in that neighborhood who worked in Manhattan.
And so there were people nearby who had passed.
So I'm wondering maybe it was connected to something like that.
It was crazy.
I remember questioning myself just because I'm wondering,
did I really see that?
But I also heard it, and then the light turned out, burned out.
So I have multiple ways of confirming that it indeed happened.
It was, yeah, pretty crazy experience.
Now let me ask you this.
Yeah.
The actual statement when you said, whoa, wouldn't it be something if these fell down?
Oh, yes.
Do you think it was just a weird coincidence or do you think maybe on some level you were picking up on something and it just came out as that statement?
So that was my friend who had actually mentioned that at the time.
Yeah.
And he said, can you imagine if these fell?
And I just dismissed him thinking, you know, what the heck?
What kind of a comment is that?
Like, it just seems so random.
Right.
So, I mean, maybe he, you know, knew something.
I had it, like, just kind of felt it.
It was, yeah, at that moment, I just, we were having dinner.
So I thought, you know, whatever, that's a weird thing to say.
But, you know, looking back on it, it's, I don't know, maybe it was some kind of premonition on his part.
Right.
And we've had, and we just had that story earlier in this episode from Alara about her dream, about 9-11.
And it was, you know, I think it was the night before.
Total premonition.
I mean, it was strange elements wrapped into it that didn't fit.
But overall, it was basically being in a big city with two buildings crashing down.
And then we have Mark last year, I think it was, who had a really frightening story of a premonition than he had and how that stuck with him for years.
So it's amazing to me.
It seems like there was something, and I think it's Dr. Dean Radin who has done some work on this.
If you look at it, R-A-D-I-N, that right before a major worldwide event or a massive disaster happens,
that they've actually put out some type of meters.
I don't know what they are,
but some kind of recording devices,
and they've been able to pick up
if they go back after the fact and look,
they can see certain spikes.
And it's almost like there's a human consciousness
sometimes taps into these things
and know something is coming,
but they don't know what.
Or maybe they have premonitions or those kind of things.
So, yeah, it sounds like your friend tapped into something
and then you were shown something.
And again, it's like so many stories on this show.
It doesn't end with a period.
It ends with a question mark.
Oh, yeah, definitely.
And thank you for sharing your story tonight on the Campfire.
Thank you.
Thanks, Jim.
Next up on the Campfire, we have Jason from California.
Now, he's going to talk about a phenomena that we've talked about numerous times.
I find it super creepy.
and also very interesting, very interesting.
But first, there's a family connection, I understand.
Jason, welcome to the show.
Thank you for joining us.
I know you've been listening since COVID times.
But tell us about this family connection.
Yeah, hi, Jim.
I am Uncle Jason from Eliana's story.
She was on, I just heard her last week.
She talked about the lady in yellow.
I've always loved that story.
And Eliana is awesome.
And my story is not nearly as interesting, but we'll give it a go.
Well, I'm sure it is very interesting, but she was a very impressive young lady.
And again, I love when families listen.
Fathers and sons, fathers and daughters, uncles and nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters.
I just think it's so cool.
I love that.
So tell us your story, Jason.
So this happened when I was in high school.
I was living with my dad on the upper story of a house.
And we had a routine where I would be in my room doing homework,
and I would hear him, open the door down below, walk up his steps.
There was another door to open, and yet a third,
and then he would come into my room,
and we would talk about a day and go have dinner, make dinner together.
So I was in my room.
I was studying.
I heard the door open.
I heard the steps.
These creaky characteristics sounding steps.
Open the door.
He walked through the den, opened the door.
And I was waiting for my dad to come, say hi.
And nothing happened.
I waited a little bit.
Nothing happened.
I opened the door.
I said, Dad.
Dead silence.
So I closed my door.
and I'm thinking someone's in my house.
Like, do I call the police?
You know, this is way before cell phones.
And I'm sitting there pondering what to do.
And all of a sudden, once again, I heard the door open.
Footprint, footsteps up the stairs.
I heard the door through the den, open the door.
My dad came in and he said, hey, how was your day?
And I said, did you just, you didn't just come home a little earlier?
He was very confused and said, no.
and it was just one of those inexplicable head scratchers, as you say.
You know, you tell the story at a party and it's all right.
It's not a bad one, but it's just nobody can understand how inexplicable that is.
There's just no way to explain it.
And then come to find out, there's the word for it, the Norwegian word,
the Verdoga.
And it's just, for me, it was, it was very gratifying to find out that this is a common
phenomena.
And other people have had that happen before I've heard many stories on Campfire.
Well, I got to say, Jason, and thank you for sharing that, because it is amazing, is that,
you know, when I started this back in 2009, I thought we would have certain kinds of stories.
You know, signs from loved ones, people seeing ghosts and things.
This wasn't even on my radar.
I mean, I knew there were doppelgangers and things, but audio doppelgangers and, you know,
they come home and 20 minutes later, they really come home.
I didn't even know this was a thing.
It's one of those things that's caught me surprised.
And we might have, I don't know if it's as much as one a month, but it's pretty close.
It seems like, especially lately, I think people hearing the stories make them really,
Because as well as weird stories, I mean, if you say, well, I saw a ghost and you tell a ghost stories like, ooh, ghost story.
But people kind of to your point, I don't think they know what to do with this.
Yeah.
Because it doesn't fit in like a neat little box.
You know, it's not a visitation from a loved one or a haunting.
You know, if you move into a house and it has a history, you know, you see something.
People can kind of grasp that and figure, well, it could be residual.
It could be sentient, but it comes from the past maybe.
this one is like a glitch in the matrix that does it's it doesn't make sense yeah i think that the
the description when i looked up the word the premonitory return is just like the perfect
perfect description of it it's it's not a it's not a it's not a window to the past it's not a
a stone tape thing it's it seems like some sort of recording of something that's going to happen
in the future it's really strange and the first time i heard it's
stories was on campfire, and I remember being so surprised, like, wow, that happens to other people
too. And then I heard more, and it turns out it's common. And the thing it is, it's one of those
things I've said this on the show all the time. I think that our whole existence has so many
more layers than we understand. And some of these phenomena that we talk about on the shows and
stories that we share, they're little peaks into what's really going on, or little symptoms, I guess,
of what's really going on.
But we only get little peaks
and then the door shut on us.
And thank you for
sharing
your peek into
the supernatural and the strange, Jason.
Thank you for being on the show tonight.
Thank you, Jam. You're the first and the best.
Thank you. Stay spooky.
You too.
Next up on the campfire,
we have Ava from New York City
and her friend Ravina
told her about the show. So Ravina,
thank you.
spooky. And Ava has, you know, a very sensitive story. And anytime someone shares a story like this,
we really appreciate because we know it could be a difficult thing to talk about. But I think it's
valuable for people to hear. Eva, welcome to the show. Thank you for joining us and tell us what
happened. Thank you so much, Jim. It's so amazing. I'm very starstruck to be here. As you mentioned,
This is a sensitive story.
I lost my brother Alex to suicide in 2019.
He was my older brother by four years.
He was 23 when he passed and I was 19.
And of course, it was heartbreaking and difficult time.
It still is, as anyone dealing with grief and suicide grief would know.
It never goes away, but you live with it,
every day and find ways to honor them.
But this story, I think about all the time,
and it really gives me a lot of peace.
So very shortly after my brother passed,
we were going to have his funeral service.
And I was away from my parents at the time,
studying away.
I was 19.
I was, I think, a college sophomore.
And trying to keep up with my friends,
But obviously it was an incredibly difficult time before I had to go home for his service.
And, yeah, you could see him even getting, it's hard to even think about that time.
Of course.
Yeah.
But shortly before I had to fly home to be with my parents and my family, I was pretty distraught.
I was up alone one night, sort of just walking around my dorm.
and I started talking out loud to my brother.
We were so close.
And I sort of prayed out loud.
I said to him, like, Alex, like, you know, I don't know if this can reach you, if you can hear me.
But if you can, I know I can't sleep tonight because I was so honestly, it can be scary.
I was scared to fly home.
I was scared for the service just to face what had happened and this huge change in my life.
And I said, you know, I won't be able to sleep tonight, but visit one of your friends in a dream and then let them know you're okay.
And then have your friend tell me about it.
So go to a friend's dream and then let them know you're okay and somehow let me know.
So it's a little bit convoluted instructions for my brother for a spirit of praying out loud.
But, you know, I wasn't really thinking of it that way.
I was thinking probably not much.
I was just coming out of my mouth.
It's definitely anyone will know in grief.
You just are kind of living through the moment to moment.
So I ended up staying up most of the night.
But I guess I fell asleep probably around, I don't know, the witching hours, like 3 or 4 a.m.
And I woke up probably around like 6.37, again, not very restful times.
and I woke up early and I saw my phone a message from friends and family, but then one caught my eye from his friend, his really good friend, Cole, who is an artist and a film director.
And Cole texted me. I should have pulled up the text, but I kind of remember it by heart. He said, hi, Eva, this is weird. I just woke up from a crystal clear dream of Alex. He was at the train station in our town, and he,
looked like he was going on a journey on the train, and he looked at me and said,
Hi, Cole, don't worry, I'm okay. I love you and I'll see you soon.
Wow.
And then Cole just said, I just felt like I had to tell you.
It was like many people say dreams of their loved ones that feel different,
feel very crystal clear, like a lucid dream, or almost like they're waking, right?
And I just was sort of like blown away because Cole had no, I had no communication with him.
This was just something I said out loud at night.
Like, let me know, go to a friend's dream.
I won't be able to sleep.
Let them know you're okay.
And then, you know, have this person reach out to me, which he might not have done.
Right.
Right.
He might have been like, whoa, you know, I don't want to reach out.
It's too soon.
You know, people can be, it can be hard to reach out or not to say.
Sure, of course.
but it was almost like to the, you know, line by line.
To the letter.
To the letter.
And maybe it was something you couldn't handle that at that time or those kind of things
and something that that could provide you a way to access it.
But it happened.
It's definitely, to me, it's in that category of too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence, right?
The fact that you had asked, you know, it would have been remarkable if he would have just called you or texted you out of blue and said,
I experience this, but to have it follow chapter and verse of what you ask for, that makes it
even the more amazing. Now, of course, of course, nothing will, you know, ease that pain
completely of what's happened here. And again, I'm so sorry. But I've got to believe it did
provide you some comfort. It definitely did. After the initial shock, and every time I
really think about it, it really did provide me comfort, because aside from it, just follow
the letter of what happened. It was so, Alex, it was so my brother. He was like a very, he was
serious but funny. Like, this is the kind of thing he would have loved. And, like, this kind of
story or this kind of coincidence. And he was just so special. And yeah, it just really sounded
like him, too, just the phrasing of the sentences. So it's, I believe they, I believe they
stick around. I believe they get those messages to us. He got a very important one to you. And
since we're on this topic, I want to get an important message out. And I'm actually just going to
read it from their website because I want to make sure I get it right. We talk about this when the topic
of suicide does come up. 988 lifeline.org, everybody, at the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline,
they understand that life's challenges can sometimes be difficult. So whether you're facing
mental health struggles, emotional distress, alcohol or drug use concerns, or
just need someone to talk to.
Their caring counselors are there for you.
You are not alone.
You can call, text, chat, and they do have facilities for the deaf and heart of hearing.
And it is 988 and 988 Lifeline.org.
And I always think it's important to bring that up, even if just one person, Ava, hears that.
Who needs it?
Please reach out to them.
Please reach out to them folks out there if you need those resources.
Thank you.
Ava, thank you again.
You know, it's one thing to say,
ooh, I saw this spooky thing in my house.
And you know, I appreciate that.
Don't get me wrong.
But when somebody, me too.
But when somebody tells a story like this,
it's so close to home and so poignant.
I really do appreciate it.
Thank you for being a part of the campfire.
Thank you so much, Jim.
Stay spooky.
Next up, we have a repeat campfire storyteller.
We're so glad to have Sophia on the line.
And she has one of my favorite kind of stories.
It's one of those head scratchers.
Sophia, welcome to the show.
Thank you for joining us.
Tell us what happened.
Thanks for having me back, Jim.
So I've been trying to make this make sense for weeks, and I can't.
So I need to give you just a little bit of context here.
This story happened in the neighborhood where I grew up.
but just a couple weeks ago.
So it's a recent event.
But in that neighborhood, there was a gentleman who lived in the neighborhood who was schizophrenic.
Oh, my.
And I mentioned that because I think it really impacted the way he engaged with the world.
And he was very particular in his routines.
So he would go for a walk every day at the same time, at the same route.
for like 30 years, like this, like the same route instantly. And I grew up knowing that,
I'll call him Gary, that Gary was going to be coming by at the same time every day.
And nothing was going to interrupt his walk, right? It was rain or shine. And he was always kind of in his own world.
So with that background in place, a couple weeks ago I was having coffee on my mother's porch with her.
And she has quite a big property.
So the front sidewalk is pretty long.
And I'm sitting on her porch with her in a rocking chair.
So it takes a while to walk across her property.
And I'm in the rocking chair and I look up and I see.
Gary on one of his walks.
Same way he's been doing it forever, right?
Walking down the sidewalk and where I was sitting in the rocking chair, full disclosure,
there was a beam on the porch kind of blocking my peripheral vision.
But if I leaned back in the rocking chair, I could see around it just fine.
So I've thought of the ways to explain this.
So he walks past and I leaned back in the rocking chair and was kind of waiting for Gary to pop up around the beam and he just wasn't there.
Oh.
He wasn't there.
And so I leaned forward again in the rocking chair and I didn't see him.
And I leaned back again.
And I mean, this is a man who's been walking for miles and miles every day, at least as
long as I've been familiar with the area, he now walks with quite a pronounced limp, right? I mean,
he's getting older. Sure. He shouldn't have been able to just sprint away or something, right?
Like, it's like he was just gone. So as I was leaning forward and starting to kind of, the bells were kind of starting to go off that something odd was happening. My mom goes, where did he go?
So I hear her go, where did he go? And I at first said, he must have crossed the street,
but it would be kind of an odd place for him to choose to do that. He would have had to go over some tree routes and between parked cars.
And if there isn't anybody standing in his way, he never deviates from his path. Right. So I was like, I don't really know why he would have crossed the street.
And then I got really worried that maybe he fell and was hurt.
Like maybe he fell and I couldn't see him over the fence.
So I ran off the porch, went and looked at the sidewalk.
He's not there.
I go out into the street.
He's not there.
I walked up and down the street and he's just gone.
Like I, he was there and then he was gone.
And I can't explain that part of it.
It's like he just disappeared.
And I'm a believer, but I have my limits, and those limits are usually physics.
Right.
Right?
No, I get it.
How does a person just disappear?
Well, it gets a bit we're standing there trying to figure out where this man went.
And probably an hour later, while we're still discussing this because we're still flabbergasted,
here comes Gary walking back up the street the opposite way that he had come earlier,
and his shirt is a different color.
Oh, that's strange.
Super strange, right?
And we're just standing there kind of, I mean, flabbergasted is the right word for it.
I remember my mom grabbed my arm and she went, what is happening right now?
Like we just couldn't make sense of what we were seeing.
And then I had the brilliant idea.
It occurred to me that my mom has cameras on her property.
So I was like, this will solve the problem.
We'll check the cameras.
Right. Makes sense.
He's not on the camera.
So he's not on the cameras.
You can see me run off the porch and wandering around looking for him.
but he's not there.
And I still don't know how to explain it.
And the fact that both of you saw this,
or it didn't make sense to you,
I mean independently, and you saw that,
I think Gary just disappeared.
And then your mom says,
hey, where did he go?
You were having the same thought at the same time.
So you got that validation,
you got that confirmation that you saw what you saw,
and that's not a camera.
So what do you think?
Do you think it was some weird,
replay that only the human eye could see?
You know, I don't know.
Like I said, I've been thinking about this for weeks now.
Try.
It's like a logic problem.
I'm trying to unwind.
I just don't know.
I've thought of time slips that may, that could be an option.
I've heard it said that,
some people who suffer from mental illness walk with one foot in this world and one and another.
And I don't mean that to try to glorify his experience. I'm sure it's been very difficult.
But I don't know. I wonder if maybe there is something special and extra about him.
And maybe that's what happened. I really could not tell you that if I didn't have the backup that there was another person there,
with me and then him not being on the cameras, I would think that I had imagined it.
Yet another one of those campfire stories that ends with a question mark and not a period.
Sophia, thank you so much for being on the show again.
I really appreciate our repeat callers who come back time after time and share these great
stories.
Thank you so much and stay spooky.
Thank you.
Stay spooky, Jim.
We have a return caller.
Richard from Oregon is back, and we're so glad to have him.
You know, Richard's been on a show many times over the years.
He was just done a few weeks ago telling us that interesting Bigfoot story.
And he said, I've got another one for you, Jim.
And this one is Jesus in the Nightlight.
And I have no idea what that's about, but must be about Jesus in a nightlight.
I'm interested.
Richard, welcome to the show.
Tell us what happened.
Okay.
Thanks, Jim. Thanks for having me on again. So I love your show. Thank you. I was going to, oh, so this one took place.
Years ago on your show, I told some stories about the house I grew up in in Kansas, very, very haunted, lots of activity. Over 16 years, I think we were there for more and had lots, lots of activity.
So this is just one of the many stories from that house. And I don't think I told it on that segment.
where I first told about my haunted house.
So I was, so this house obviously had lots of paranormal activity.
I mean, you know, the whole gamut of things you hear, footsteps, doors closing,
presence, you know, cold spots, voices, saw apparitions a few times,
was touched one time by a ghost, which is, yeah, I think I told that story on your show before.
So it was a lot of things.
So, pretty, at times the spirits could be kind of malevolent, felt that way.
Sometimes they could be kind of almost funny.
They would kind of do things to drinks and stuff.
Right.
And so it was kind of strange.
I think there was more than one, actually.
I think there was several.
But in the house had a history that even other people that I'd found lived there before
that my brother actually came in contact with.
It was a place we bought, but it had been rented years before.
Right.
And they actually had their whole family had paranormal experiences and they still called it the creepy house.
So it was kind of validation like you talk about, you know.
And so it was a very, you know, just like I said, lots of, lots of bad, you know, just a whole mix of things.
And so in this particular instance, I was pretty creeped out.
Our bedroom, my brother and I shared a bedroom when I was growing up.
But that had a lot of activity in it.
I think it was mostly these children that happened to be there.
So we weren't quite sure.
Someone a long time ago had said there was an accident in the house.
A neighbor had told us that there was an accident.
And he had told his prior family, one of the neighbors,
that there had been a death in the house.
There had been an accident in the house with someone that died.
So, you know, who knows?
if that was a source.
It was also an old well underneath the house.
Right.
So it was a really old place, you know, the, and we had found burned timbers where things
have been, like it looked like a foundation had been there, another foundation, maybe a house
had burned, and they just built up over it.
Right.
And it was a railroad town, so it was very quick, you know, the building.
So, like, somewhere to burn down, they just build up, you know, real fast over it.
And so anyway, so we're at the bedroom where I shared my brother.
A lot of activity, very scary place, you know.
And at night I couldn't sleep very well.
Sometimes I'd just sleep downstairs on this kind of hide-a-bed that my mom would put out for me, you know.
And so I would sleep downstairs.
I would sleep downstairs.
And I had this night light.
And the night light was kind of like a cord, and I had the little light on the kind of the middle of cord.
And one night, I was just kind of looking at it.
And I thought I saw this image in it.
And it started to kind of swirl and kind of take this, just kept swirling and swirling and it started to materialize in this form.
And it was, it looked like the representation that we see, you know, most of us in Western cultures, see of Jesus.
This kind of representation that looked, you know, the robe, the blue robe, I don't know what you call it, the thing that came across the robe and the white, the white robes, the blue kind of swath.
Maybe a sash?
Shash, yeah, sash, yeah.
And his hair, you know, the long hair, the beard.
And it was just like this, sort of like this, you know?
It was small, you know.
They're talking about a night.
It's probably this big, you know.
At the time, I can't remember exactly how big the nightlight was, but it was small.
And I was just, you know, some people would say, I mean,
and I'm not a very particularly religious person.
I'm not very pious and even after experience like that, you know, that it was just, it was more scary than anything.
It was very, very frightening.
And a lot of people would say, oh, well, it's comforting, you know, you see this.
But it's very, very frightening.
And I just remember being very, very scared.
And I just, again, as a kid, put the covers over my head and tried to hide, you know.
And to this day, you know, there was so much activity in the house.
I don't know, but if it was, if it was, like I said, I'm not a particularly, I'm very spiritual person, but I'm not, you know, I've had backgrounds in Roman Catholicism and a lot of process and churches and a lot of Buddhism background too.
But I mean, I'm very spiritual person, but I wasn't, I'm not, you know, to this day, I'm not quite sure it's always been a mystery to what it actually really was, you know.
Right.
So.
Yeah, do you think it could be an imposter situation?
I wonder, yeah, that's why I wonder.
I mean, I wonder if that, again, if the spirits would do something like that.
Like I said, they could be different.
They were very frightening sometimes, dangerous kind of feeling, like they want to hurt you.
And other times they were just kind of funny.
And so I wonder, you know, I think, was it trying to trick me in some way, trying to get me to kind of gain my trust?
Right.
Or was this actually, you know, maybe a representation of, of, uh,
God or something. Yeah. And I think that's possible. I'm not saying that it's impossible that
was actually Jesus. On the other hand, I'm not saying it's impossible that it wasn't something
like a trickster element kind of thing, too. I think both things do exist. You know, many people,
you know, near-death experiences report seeing, you know, religious deity, Jesus and others. And I don't
doubt that they do see them. But I also think that sometimes, you know, particularly when
people are using Ouija boards and somebody, something comes through and says, well, I'm Aunt Mildred.
Well, it's like, how do you really know it's Aunt Mildred, you know?
Could it be like, you know, Joe Satan or something? But anyway, well, very interesting, very
interesting, Richard. We always appreciate your calls. We always appreciate you being on the show and
all of your support. And we thank you so much for sharing this story about Jesus in the nightlight.
Stay spooky.
Oh, thank you, Jim. Stay spooky.
Carrie has been listening for 15 years. 15 years, my goodness. As he said, that's a lot of shows.
And we appreciate it very much. And we're going to talk about something that goes even further back.
1901. It plays a big role in our story today. And Carrie, thank you for your long time listenership and tell us
what happened. Sure, sure will. So this story involves an historic event. That's important.
And then some coincidence or was it? So I could start with the event. And it turns out that in 1901, there was a woman near where I live.
who lived in a small village, and she murdered her six children.
The children were, yeah, they were age six months to nine years old.
Horrific story.
I didn't know about it until about four years ago, and it's sort of surprising that it wasn't a bigger deal.
Perhaps the first coincidence is that right now in the news, we're hearing a story about a mom who
killed her children.
So
anyhow,
you might have some sympathy
for this woman who killed her children.
Her husband was a drunk
and an adulterer
and he basically spent all his money
on alcohol.
And he basically abandoned
his family, his six children.
you know, staying out all night,
spending all the money they had to eat, what have you.
And so eventually the woman
got in touch with like a welfare program
to see if someone could help them out or something
that came to visit.
And they decided to put the kids in foster care.
So in a week, people were coming to take the kids and she lost it and she killed all the kids pretty gruesomely.
Yeah, they say like, catch it, like really nasty, nasty stuff.
So this happened in 1901 in March of 1901.
Right down the street for me practically.
I never knew about it.
So four years ago, my daughter, who's also into the spooky stuff, came with me.
We found out about this place.
It's, sorry, the place is the grave of the children who were killed.
So it was an unmarked grave until 2002.
They put a headstone up with a little story on it.
But it's deep in the woods.
you'd never just come across it.
You have to know about it.
So we went out there.
My daughter and I went out there and looked around, found the grave,
looked around the whole cemetery.
I did a little EVP hunting with a phone app,
asking for communication, you know, expressing my sympathy and everything.
And nothing came up of the EVPs.
But we spent about a half hour.
And then got up in the same.
You know, pretty neat place.
And so we get in the car and we're driving away and turn on the stereo.
We've got, you know, Sirius XMU and we're putting on the indie rock station.
And here comes the song.
We turn it mid-song.
The song is called 1901.
It's by Phoenix.
Wow.
So it's like an indie rock.
song from like 2009 and um so we go to this grave site uh with the date of 1901 of the murders of
six children we jump in the car turn the car on turn the stereo on and it's playing the song
1901 that so weird weird coincidence um my daughter was all into it is all into it thinks you know
that's amazing that's that's a message from the other side you know i'm
50-50. I'm a skeptic. So
in itself is just an interesting story.
Well, it turns out about two months ago, my wife and I were
hiking, and there's a big hiking area that is
just across the river from this cemetery.
And my wife wasn't aware of it, but
we happen to be walking right near it.
We walked down a trail right across the river from the cemetery,
and I pointed out, you know, hey, there's where that cemetery is.
And I had to remind her about the story, whatever it's been for years.
So we talk about it a little, and we jump in my truck when we're done the hike,
and turn on the radio.
and of course
the song
1901 is playing
pretty wild to me
you know
the one time it feels like
it feels like
a total could be a coincidence
it's a random song
at an appropriate time
but now it happened
twice
in the context
of
this is a gravesite.
Now, thirdly, I guess I would say, is the name of the woman who murdered her children is Elizabeth Ann Maramore.
And my wife heard about the story and she was kind of sympathetic.
And who knows what really happens in 1901.
We only know what may or may not be, you know, the full story.
But given the situation, who knows?
My wife's name is also Elizabeth Ann, and she was the one who seemed to have some sympathy in light of such a gruesome story.
So three coincidences, I think, that's got me, you know, scratching my head, I guess.
Yeah.
A head scratch.
Yeah, two things come to mind, head scratcher and too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence.
Who knows?
Maybe that was Elizabethan recognizing that you guys took interest and had sympathy.
I don't know.
So if you want to go there, then now, right?
What's who in 1901 would know about a song called 1901?
How did they get a DJ on a satellite FM radio station to play that song at just the right time?
Well, the weird thing, those things are probably programmed a week or weeks in advance and loaded into a computer.
I mean, but the thing is, is that they had to.
That makes it more kind of wild because somebody had, something had to go back and say,
make sure this song plays at such and such time, because that stuff is, it's not like the old days of radio when, you know, a DJ, well, I feel like playing this, I'm going to grab it off.
That stuff is pre-programmed down to the nth degree.
Pretty much.
I mean, I guess it depends on the show, but I'm guessing that this was programmed.
But Elizabeth had to know, not your wife, but the other Elizabeth Ann would have needed to know you were going to be at the graveyard.
that time. Okay, so let's tell
this serious program director to
put this. But who knows?
I mean, I've had
You had a guest on... Yeah, go ahead.
Yeah, you had a guest
on your other show recently
who brought up something I'd never
even thought of. Maybe somehow
it's me that
made it come to
fruition.
Yeah. It's just,
it's so hard to wrap my head around.
It really is more than a coincidence
since where in the world would that come from and how?
I don't know.
As I often say,
some of the best campfire stories end with a question mark,
not with a period.
