Starting point is 00:00:00 On July 16th, the Hawk lands on Netflix. From the mind of Will Ferrell. Oh, mama. I'm back. Come in love! Comes a new original series. Get ready. Get ready. That's it.
Starting point is 00:00:11 Did I stutter? When an iconic pro golfer. Lonnie? Hockey! Takes one last swing at greatness. You were a big shot golfer. I still am a big shot golfer. No one.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Dad, I'm the Hawk now. Will stand in his way. That's how it's done. The Hawk, only on Netflix, July 16th. Stories of growing up in a haunted house from people who lived it. Up next on Jim Harold's Campfire. Sit back, relax, and warm yourself by Jim Harold's Campfire. You know, I've always wondered what it would be like to live in a haunted house. And I'm going to ask Rebecca that because she's had that experience.
Starting point is 00:00:59 She has the answer, yes. And she's been listening since 2019. We appreciate it. We're just talking how our lives are kind of split. into two sections before COVID and after COVID. And she said she came in right before that pandemic. She started listening. Well, Rebecca, thank you for joining us. I appreciate it. And please tell us about living in the haunted house.
Starting point is 00:01:25 So this story is one that involves my family. And I am the only one left that is included in this. So I thought it was kind of important to tell. So that anyone else in my family didn't lose the story. And we lived in a house. It was a small little house kind of on the other side of a bay. So there was a bay on the other side of the street next door to my grandparents. And my brother and I had rooms upstairs.
Starting point is 00:01:59 And every night my mom would come upstairs and tuck us in and read a story. I usually got a story that I got to pick and we were reading Heidi. I'm not sure why I remember that, but my mom tucked my brother in and something to know kind of silly. But our house was so old that it had no insulation. So we had just had some neighbors put a mobile home in the lot next to us and they had a basset hound named Brandy. and when we would go to bed at night, when we got to the top of the stairs, upstairs in the house,
Starting point is 00:02:40 if we looked down, they never closed their blinds. We ended up being great friends, and they knew that we were doing this. We didn't know that they knew, but we would stand and we would kind of like wave and get the dog's attention and the dog would stand and, you know, bark at us.
Starting point is 00:02:58 And that was kind of a nightly thing. But so my mom put my brother to bed And then she came to my room Which was right next door I was at the end he was in the middle And then the stairway was at the other end And he was put to bed And then she came to my room and we were reading
Starting point is 00:03:22 And we were not very far in And we hear my brother get out of bed And the first The floor is kind of creaked because, again, it was an old house. And we heard him kind of pitter-pattered down to the end of the hall. And then we could still hear, we heard the dog bark at him, like he was doing what we always did. And my mom, get back in bed. And we hear him kind of head back to bed.
Starting point is 00:03:54 And then instead of going to bed, we hear him walk over. he had a closet because it was kind of in an addict type second story. Sometimes the walls slope in. And us kids were, we were short or we were tall enough to reach the smoke alarm that was in his closet. I'm not sure why it was in his closet, but anyways, we were tall enough to reach that. And every once in a while, we would do that just to make our mom yell at us, just for fun. So the smoke alarm starts going off. And my mom is just like kind of livid by that point.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Like get back in bed. Get back in bed. And like I said, I think she may have added a damn it to the last one. And finally she just bolted, jumped up, ran into his room. And then I hear her scream, Becky, get in here. And my mom was, she was like, and it's hard to. explain, but when she said to do something, you normally did it. Right.
Starting point is 00:05:01 She said jump, you said how high? Exactly. She worked in a middle school. She had to be that way. So I jumped up and ran into his room, and the smoke alarm is still going off. And my brother is fast asleep. And he's not the asleep where he is like faking it. He is asleep.
Starting point is 00:05:25 And he is out. And my brother had a rare form of epilepsy. And at night, he had basically just a huge amount. I think he took something like 22 pills a day. And his medication made him really tired. And so we knew he was not faking it. Smoke alarm's still going off. My mom's looking at me.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I'm looking at her because we heard him walk up and down the hall. And she grabs the top off of the smoke detector. and pulls it down and plops that battery out, and it still kept going for just not very long, but it kept going. Enough for us to just have to stand there and process. Like, I think I was seven or eight. I was not very old.
Starting point is 00:06:19 And so it was just one of those things that makes you go, hmm, you know, like, what really was that, you know? It wasn't my brother. That's all we knew for sure. But we did go back to reading my book. And two things. It's incredible how, and I understand why, because you got to get on life. Like remarkable things happen and people say, well, I turned back over.
Starting point is 00:06:45 I went to bed. You guys continue reading the book. I mean, you got to live. What are you going to do? And then the other thing is that what you described is very much like audio doppelganger, but in this case it manipulated physical objects and he had the weirdness with the smoke alarm. So, I mean, that seems like it was some kind of trickster spirit or something like that. What did you guys chalk it up to?
Starting point is 00:07:09 I mean, again, you... Go ahead. Sorry, it wasn't just that incident, though. It wasn't, I think I was about 12 and we moved to the other side of the state. We were living on the coast at that time and we moved to the other side of the state. And when we moved, we packed up and moved my grandparents helped us move. But within about a month, like within the first month that we moved, it was almost like our house was kind of saying, like, we don't want them gone or something's not right.
Starting point is 00:07:46 My grandparents that live next door woke up in the middle of the night and all of the smoke alarms in the house because the house was empty. It was for sale. Right. All of the smoke alarms were going off at once. Huh. Wow. So my grandpa got out of bed and went over.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Again, it was an old house, so it wasn't the kind that were wired together. Right. It's just your basic smoke detector. Right. Each one is their own entity. And so he took all of the batteries out and was going to just replace all the batteries, figured that they must have been all put in at the same time and they were all going bad at the same time. However, the smoke alarms continued to go off. Wow. Without that, he ended up buying
Starting point is 00:08:36 new ones and putting them in. And I don't remember exactly how many times they went off before he bought new ones, but it was before he actually had the chance to put the new batteries in because they were waking up on a pretty regular basis. Now, you were just a child, but was there ever later any discussion of who was haunting it or why they were haunting it or any thoughts like that? There was always discussion about that in our house. It wasn't, because again, that wasn't an isolated incident. And talking to my sister the other day, she said, Beck, I think that we in our family have a different threshold of like what's weird or what's spooky.
Starting point is 00:09:19 whereas like someone who that may happen to, it's like, oh my gosh, what was that? We're like, okay, what's next? Like, that wasn't a big deal. Move on. But I think probably we, the thing that we had talked about the most with that house is that there were caves in the bay that ran underneath the property into the city center. And a long time ago, Chinese. Chinese people would use those caves to get to the city center because they were not allowed above ground.
Starting point is 00:09:58 And so they would come in on ships and go through those to get to the center of town. And I think that my mom kind of was leaning towards that maybe that had something to do with it. Then maybe it was the spirits of these folks that had to suffer that indignity. Yeah. Wow. Right. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. Huh. Something like that. But, I mean, did you find that any of this stuff followed you to your subsequent houses,
Starting point is 00:10:28 or was it just basically that house mainly? It followed us. Yeah. We moved into our new house. My grandpa stayed with us the night that we moved. And he heard something in the middle of the night. And he said, who got up and went to the bathroom in the middle of the night? Because you were really loud. and there was, he said it was a woman and it was the only women that were there were myself and my mom and my cousin and it wasn't any of us.
Starting point is 00:10:55 And my dad said, I don't know what, because my mom got married. She got remarried and that's why we moved. And my stepdad, who I refer to as my dad, he said, I will accept delivery on your mother and you kids, but I will not accept delivery on a ghost.
Starting point is 00:11:16 And he started, started losing things, important things. Oh, so good ghosts. And they were found years and years later at the bottom of boxes that came out of our old garage. That had never been opened. Kind of like the ghost said, I'll show you who's boss here. Right. Wow.
Starting point is 00:11:37 Wow. Yeah. Well, I'm sure you have more stories. I hope you'll join us again to tell some more. And I thank you so much for listening and for contributing your story of living in a haunted house. us. Stay spooky. Stay spooky.

Jimherald.com slash campfire. Jimherald.com slash campfire. And now on to more great campfire stories. Next up, we have one of our greatest supporters.
Starting point is 00:13:20 She's very active over on the virtual campfire. She's a plus club member. I'm talking about Cynthia from North Carolina. And we're so glad to have her here. I love that background you have in like that old school refrigerator. You know, we had something like that in our house when I was a little kid. I remember they had to defrost it. Boy, do I feel old.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Anyway, but you used to live in a farmhouse, and a lot of weird stuff happened over there, and you're going to tell us about it. So thank you for joining us on the campfire. Thank you for your support. And tell us some stories from that haunted farmhouse, apparently. Yes. So this is upstate New York. This is not Rochelle. this is like, you know, two hours from the Canadian border.
Starting point is 00:14:14 We lived in an old farmhouse. It used to be the schoolhouse. Now, local legend is the schoolhouse burned down and there were children in it. And they perished because they couldn't get out. The teacher couldn't get them out. I never found historical records to prove that. I was even searching around right before the show this past weekend trying to find records. I didn't find anything.
Starting point is 00:14:50 So we would hear all sorts of noises. And a lot of the times it was like children laughing, children playing. my mom would be in the house and all of a sudden it would sound like there was school children right next door and they were playing in the yard. So you just have to just weird things happen. Like my brother got locked and I did too. We would get locked in the bathroom. The lock was on the inside of the door. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:23 So you unlock the door and you can't open the door. It was just weird things like that happened. So on this particular night, my mom heard noises down the stairs. And there was a little loft space upstairs. Old farmhouse, you can hear everything. So mom goes down to investigate and the cat went with her. And the cat started pacing between the dining room and the kitchen. And the kitchen area is kind of where the old schoolhouse used to be.
Starting point is 00:16:01 and the cat didn't let my mom go past that point, but mom could still hear the voices. And as she got closer, the cat actually like pushed her backwards. Like, you know, cats rub up on you and, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:19 there's a little bit of force, but, you know, they're just rubbing on you. The cat actually was like a board. Mom said she couldn't move past the cat. The cat would not move. So finally,
Starting point is 00:16:30 mom kind of shooed, the cat out of the way. And as she got into the kitchen passing that threshold, the door that led to the outside was closing. And so mom hurried up to see, like, it was somebody in the house. And by the time, and it was maybe two steps from the threshold where she was to the back door. And there was nobody there. Hmm. Well, maybe there was someone there, but you couldn't see them.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Well, that's it. Yeah. Yeah. So it ended on a question mark. Yeah. Well, that's the thing with a lot of good campfire stories. It ends with a question mark. Now, so the general sense was this place was weird and it was haunted.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Is that the general sense? Yeah. Yeah. And well, we've got a couple more minutes. Did you have something else? Another one you would like to share? Another little story from the, farmhouse? Yeah, so I was home, I was home alone because I was sick. And I'm not a cook. I never was a cook. But I, I needed
Starting point is 00:17:40 lunch and I had put the pan on the stove to heat the soup up. And I got distracted and just laying on the couch. Like when I said I wasn't fan, I was running a fever. I was home from school. I was a teenager. Who the Hell leaves a teenager home and says go put soup on the stove. I don't know. My mom thought she could trust me. And when I remembered I had left the stove on, I went back. Number one, the stove was off. Number two, the pan was not on the burner that I left it on.
Starting point is 00:18:18 And then you could see the actual, like the, I burned my mother's unburnable pan. But I'd never caught fire. Like, it should have done something as long as I left it on. And that was, it was just one of those things. They were very protective. Well, I was going to say that. I mean, I think that there's this feeling that ghosts are always negative or they're always sinister. But I was just going to use that word, protective.
Starting point is 00:18:53 It sounds like it was very protective in this case. Might have actually saved you. the whole place could have burnt down. Oh yeah. No, I mean, like it burned down to begin with. So yeah. So one other story, and this is just kind of an odd story. Like I said, it was not a very big spot.
Starting point is 00:19:14 So where the refrigerator was in the back door, so imagine a square and the door is here. and then the refrigerator was right next to her. You can't do this backwards for some reason, but that's okay. And we noticed, or my mom noticed, like, cereal was missing. And we're not talking like, you know, it was going down in the bag. We're talking about the bag was removed from the boxes. So somebody, something was coming into the house and taking cereal from the the boxes.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And my mom left a note and said, I'm happy to cook for you. I will make you dinner. Just tell me you need food. And after that, nothing happened. Like, we weren't missing cereal anymore. Yeah. Maybe the ghost was a Kellogg's fan or something. Well, while we ate were Cheerios.
Starting point is 00:20:22 Oh, well, they were General Mills. This goes brought to you. General Mills fans. Yeah. I know we're both Gen Xers, so I've got to show everybody. My Ewing oil shirt. Yes. And if you're a Gen Xer, you'll know what Ewing oil is. And if you're not, look it up. Look it up. That's a great question who killed J.R. Exactly. Exactly. That really captured the imagination, the whole country, the whole country, I mean. Well, Cynthia, it's always great to talk to you. Thank you for sharing these great stories.

Starting point is 00:22:50 Well, we love to hear from our listeners and our viewers in Australia. It is so awesome. I mean, the technology, we just take it for granted these days, but it's awesome. But even more awesome than technology are people like Desley, who is joining us now from Australia. And she has a story about her grandparents. She's been listening for a couple of years. Heard about us on another podcast, and here she is. And we're so glad she is. Desley, welcome to the show and tell us what happened. Thank you so much. So my great grandfather, he was a sweet man. He had a big smile and he had those big square glasses frames that they had in the 90s. But the main thing I remember about him is a green velvet rocking chair that he would always sit in. And when he had passed away, that got handed down to my grandmother and then it sat in her living room in her house. So my cousin and I, we were typical little kids and we didn't live in the same town and whenever we would see each other in school holidays, it was never enough to just have a play. We always had to have a sleepover and that sleepover would always happen at our grandparents' house. So their kitchen had,
Starting point is 00:24:11 it was on one side of the house that it had long windows along one side and behind it was the living area where my great-grandfather's green and velvet rocking chair would sit and we were a little bit cheeky and one night we'd pushed for a sleep over and like we did on numerous occasions we would sneak out of the bedroom and try and find the lolly jar and it got moved quite a lot because I think they cottoned on to what we would do. So we would wait until they had gone to bed and then we would sneak out into the kitchen to find it. And this particular night,
Starting point is 00:24:50 we were up to our normal antics and had creeped out to the kitchen and found the lolly jar and put it up on the bench top of the kitchen. And for whatever reason, I don't know why, we both looked up and in the reflection of the window, we saw our great-grandfather in his green bun chair. Oh, wow. And it was full on like a movie moment, and we both just looked at each other and just bolted out of the kitchen. And I don't really recall whether we said much to each other when we got back into the bedroom. I feel like it was more just, wow, did you just see that?
Starting point is 00:25:31 Anyway, whatever happened and we went to bed. And then the next day we got up and went out for breakfast and we could hear our grandparents talking. And they said, my grandma said to my grandfather, oh, did you realize that yesterday was the anniversary of our great-grandfather's death? Oh, wow. Wow. Hmm. Yeah. Interesting. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:26:00 Interesting. Do you think it was, so do you more think like this was an active thing of him visiting? It wasn't like, you know, sometimes he'll talk about residual ghosts and replays and stuff like this. You think this was definitely him actively visiting or showing himself? Yeah, I've listened to a lot of your podcasts and I hear how people describe what they see. And I wouldn't say he was fully like we are, but I wouldn't say he was really clear either. or sort of in between for me, if that makes sense. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:31 But the funny thing is I actually don't talk to my cousin very often just because of life and whatever happens. But I actually reached out to her before I was going to be on here. And it was a bit random sending her a message going, I'm going to be on a podcast and I want to know if you remember this story. And the strange thing is that she replied and she said, I literally was telling someone this story last week. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:26:57 And then she's like, this is 100% how I remember it. However, she recalls turning and looking into the living room before we ran back to the room. And she thinks that the chair was actually rocking. She recalls the chair rocking. But I don't recall looking. I recall looking in the window, seeing the reflection and bolting. But she's obviously turned and looked and then ran to the room. You know, the nice thing about that is that, you know, it's one thing when you see something yourself.
Starting point is 00:27:27 because you would think, well, was I dozing off? Was I, you know, or was I imagining things or stuff like that? But when you've got someone there, you know, one of your contemporaries, and they can recall it years later and say, yeah, you're remembering this exactly right. Then you know it's something that really happened. And I know if I saw something, like if I were sitting here and I would see my mom appear, I would question myself. I would say, well, you know, is that wishful thinking?
Starting point is 00:27:55 Did I just imagine that? Was it something medical? You know, you never know. But with this, what is nice, you've got that 100% validation that it wasn't your imagination. You weren't particularly when people have these situations where they see things where they're going to sleep, for example. They're like, well, did I have a little dream there? This is so nice because you have that validation. I got to believe you feel that way.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Yeah, it blew my mind. Like, I remembered it very vividly. Like, I've always remembered it. But the fact that I contacted her, like, I think. this happened when we were probably 10. So I'm 40 now. And the fact that she still remembers and she just spoke about it, I was like, blew my mind. Great stuff, great stuff. Do you have anything else, Fars? I do have another little story that happened in that house. If you've got time. Sure, go ahead. Go ahead. Yeah, so I don't know if these were a thing in America, but touchlamps,
Starting point is 00:28:47 do you remember touchlamps? When they came out? Yeah, so I really, really want one of these. And I was given this, I'm going to say it might have been Easter. I don't remember what it was. But it was. But it was, but it was. was also at the same house and my mum wanted me to wait till we got back home to open it but I insisted that we opened it up and put it in the bedroom where I would have slept with my cousin and I'm probably about oh this is two years before that so maybe eightish I remember waking up and I was next to my mother in the bed and my touch lamp was on the left of me and I recall how people call up and say to you they see a shadow when it's like darker than dark it's like really really black this shadow came into the room and i remember sitting up in the bed and seeing this shadow
Starting point is 00:29:35 and as it sort of moved it sort of disappeared behind itself if that makes sense yeah and it went over to the side of the bed where the touch lamp was and tried to touch the lamp but it wouldn't turn on. And I was terrified and I was like sort of like frozen wondering whether I should wake my mother up or what I should do. And then it just walked out. And as it was walking out of the room, it just disappeared. Huh. And again, what do you think that was? What was going on there? Do you think? I don't know why, but I always have felt that was my great grandmother. I don't know why. I think she passed away just before that, and it didn't look anything like it. It just looked like a black shadow, but it had hair, I had long hair.
Starting point is 00:30:27 I don't know, but I just for some reason I felt it was her, but I don't know why. Well, there you haven't. Well, it is a very cool thing to think that our loved ones can come and say hi, even if it's just for a brief second. Desley, thank you so much. I realize I'm recording this at 10.10 a.m. here in Eastern Time, the United States, and where you're at, it's past midnight. So thank you.
Starting point is 00:30:50 Thank you for being here, being camera ready. And I appreciate it very much. You have a good night's rest and stay spooky. You're so welcome. Stay spooky. Next up on the campfire, we have Gregory from Mississippi. They have a thunderstorm going on right now. I told Gregory, hey, we can reschedule.
Starting point is 00:31:08 He said, I've got my iPad. I'm ready to go. So, okay, Gregory, we appreciate it. Just stay safe out there. But, you know, we talk about a lot of, kind of different haunted places. We've had a few stories about these particular kind of places being haunted. Not that many, though, especially from the perspective of an owner and interest to hear it. Gregory, welcome to the show. I know you're relatively new. Been listening for a few months,
Starting point is 00:31:33 several months. Tell us about this business and the haunting of it. Thank you, Jim, for inviting. Well, we had started off. We had, we'd going to a club, and the club had kind of changed hands. So four of us decided we were going to open our all-night club, and it was going to be called Emerald City. And we had found this building that had been vacant for several years. That kind of a long story short about the building, it had started off as the Macon Travel Lodge in Macon, Georgia. And it was where their banquet room, the kitchen, bar, and everything else was that. Years later, it became a nightclub, passed through several hands. So we finally got our hands on it.
Starting point is 00:32:13 And we had people that was coming in out of the building, and so we had started staying there. And we had got into one of the suites on the second floor. Well, you know how the sweets you go? You always got the bedroom. You got the kitchenette and the living room. Yeah, yeah. But there was some coolers that was left on the second floor behind the bar.
Starting point is 00:32:32 And so when you would go to the second floor, which was the actual club, is where the floor we were on. And anytime you got ready to open the door, how you get the feeling as if something, Somebody standing on the other side of the door. You always have that feeling in the back of your mind. Well, anytime you got ready to walk out the second door to end the club, to go into the club, you always had that feeling as if somebody was going to be on the other side of the night,
Starting point is 00:32:56 on the other side of the door. No matter who you were, you always had that feeling. And so you would always hesitate before you would open that door because you were like, okay, you know, build up confidence, okay, I'm going to get my dream. I had a friend of mine, God rest her soul, her name was Tavia, and she was big, she was big into spiritual. She could sense things left and right. And while within the kitchen area, we were going to have a full long kitchen along with the bar. And we were sitting in the dining room one night, which was downstairs on the first floor.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Her two-year-old granddaughter was with us. She was pointing to the top of the steps. She was like, bad man, bad man coming. Bad man coming, this little girl. Bad man coming. Bad man. Her name was Chloe, and she was two at the time, and she was back, bad man coming, bad man coming. And you would look up there and be nobody coming, but she up and down, she would run, scream to the top of her lungs.
Starting point is 00:33:53 Bad man coming. Bad man coming. So we got to where, you know, I would take pictures, you know, do recordings. And we, I had took a picture of the steps one time. And there was a little girl that was dressed in like 1890s dress. Granted, there was no kids. in this building whatsoever. So we had no idea who, no idea of who this little girl was at the top of the steps.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Huh. And come to find out, there was a guy that was murdered in the hotel next door. And his spirit resided in this building also. And we were downstairs one night and we were like, hey, Bobby, you know, if you hear, not three times. And we heard a slight knock. And I was like, you know, I'm like, did we hear what we just heard? I was like, Bobby, if that was you, you know, knock again harder.
Starting point is 00:34:43 And on the other end of the bar that was downstairs, the dining room was at, we heard three more knocks. Huh. And we would have EVPs. I had somebody tell me to get it. We were on the dance floor one night. And we had just opened up the voice recorder, and you could hear something like a deep demonic voice.
Starting point is 00:35:09 And I was like, that, that is not good. That, you know, that is, to this day, we still don't know what they said, but I mean, it was just a deep, evil, I mean, as demonic as you could possibly get. Yikes. And there was no, no, you know, chills straight from the top of your head to your toes. There was an ashtray that had got thrown. And one day, one of the previous club owners had stopped by to see what we were doing. And, you know, we were just walking around the building, talking. And I didn't want to come out and say, be like, you know, sounds stupid, be like, hey, is this building a haunted?
Starting point is 00:35:53 And so I was like, you know, I'm like, yeah. Go, you know, somebody comes out and you're like, okay, maybe this guy is crazy. So I was like, so, yeah, this building gets a little creepy around one or two o'clock in the morning. He's like, I would make a point to be out by 1.30 every day. morning. He's like, I wouldn't stay past 2 a.m. So you would just say there would be, you would see the things out of your peripheral.
Starting point is 00:36:18 On the second floor, there would be, there was two glass doors that was fire exits. And there was a long hallway, which that ran the length of the building, which had the main bathrooms. It would have been the two suites from the hotel was up there. And people like Randy Travis and. And Hank Williams is like Clay to just build him back in their prime. Oh, wow. And so there was that glass door.
Starting point is 00:36:46 The glass at the end of the hallway. There was night we had the lights that we'd keep on out at night just for security reasons. And I had walked out one night and just glanced down the hallway. And there was something that was completely blacked out the light coming through the door. You could not see through it. And we had several other friends if I was there. and when I was a skeptic, and I had took him up to the second floor where there was a door that had led to the long hallway. And I had walked into the dance floor area and the friend that was a skeptic, he just took off front him.
Starting point is 00:37:23 There's no reason why, no explanation. He was gone, Jim. I mean, gone. I mean, I don't believe in any of this stuff, but I'm getting out of here. I'm getting out of here. And so we catch up with him. and we're like, dude, you know, what happened? He's like, when you walked in that doorway, he said, I don't know what it was.
Starting point is 00:37:43 He said it was about 10 foot tall and it blacked out the whole entire doorway right behind you. Whoa. He's like, what is in this building? I said, I have no idea. It was 18,000 square foot. It was two and a half floors. There was like that stairway that led from the second floor to the third floor. Third floor was going to be our VIP area and it was just a back cut through.
Starting point is 00:38:04 but it had a it had a section that I wouldn't even go in between the second and third floor. Wow. When you go up there, it was just nothing, your body would tense up and it was just like something was in the darkness ready to get you. And I'm an ordained minister. And for me to say I wouldn't go up there, you know something was bad and something was evil. Yeah, yeah. So, I mean, just now what happened with the club? Did it open up?
Starting point is 00:38:40 What happened subsequently? Sounds like most of this was like in the prep to open it up. What happened next? We did. Well, we were getting ready to open then, you know, of course, you know, getting inspections and fire marshal and all that stuff. Well, Black had changed the laws in Georgia to where, you know, you weren't grandfathered in and certain buildings anymore. And so then it was getting every time we'd turn around. around it would get this price would be this because we had to go wind up putting fire sprinkler
Starting point is 00:39:09 system in and that was $200,000 and trying to deal with the owner of the building, you know, trying to work with him to see, you know, hey, either you'll pay for it, we'll pay for it back or you just give us the building in return. We put the fire suppression system in. And it was just, it was just getting to be a money pit. And then so it didn't happen. It didn't happen. No. And after we had got out of the building, and I mean, this building haunted me for years, for years. And it was, it was, it was tied to me. And I couldn't understand why it was tied. And there was something in that building.
Starting point is 00:39:48 And we had went back right before they had tore the building down just to check. And it was just as, it was just as evil. Do you think, was before? Do you think that, like, your idea for your nightclub was doomed from the start? It was just like one of those things, you know, the haunting, the kind of what seemed to be an evil presence. It was just basically saying, this is not going to be good. We're going to make Gregory's life a living hell, you know, while this is going on. Did you kind of get the sense of that?
Starting point is 00:40:22 Years later, yes, because there had been six previous nightclubs in there before we got a hope to the building. And the building set empty for about seven before we got it. And none of the clubs made it. That's interesting. It was kind of like a, like, they used to have that commercial, not that this place was like that, but the Roach Motel, you go in and you don't come out. It was just kind of doomed to failure. It was kind of like the Hope Diamond. You know, the Hope Diamond. People get the Hope Diamond and then they die. I'm not saying that the owners died or anything, but you just had a terrible run of bad luck associated with the place, it sounds like. Yes, exactly, exactly. And what's odd is before it became the first nightclub, I think like 2005, 2004, you couldn't find any information on the building. Whatsoever. And it was torn down.
Starting point is 00:41:16 So obviously it wasn't you guys. Nobody can make a good go of this place. So it's just torn down. Nobody made it go of it. Yeah, the city wind up taking control of it and the city of making Georgia actually tore down. I wonder, and I don't want to out whatever is there now, but I wonder how whatever is there now will fare or has fared. It'll be interesting. I'm not sure unless it went to.
Starting point is 00:41:42 But since the building's tore down, it felt like a relief for me. Like it had a hold on me. It's kind of like it was exercised by being torn down. Well, Gregory, you know, again, I believe this. I think that they're haunted objects, cursed objects. and sometimes they're cursed places. Sounds like you got your hands on one of those. Glad that you, glad that you escaped.
Starting point is 00:42:04 Gregory, thank you for being on the show. I appreciate it and stay spooky. Thank you, Jamming. You stay spooky also. You know, some of my favorite campfire stories revolve around these stories of childhood because there are stories that stick with us. Very strange things that have happened.
Starting point is 00:42:22 And Megan has just such a story. Megan, welcome to the show. I know you've been listening for a few years. appreciate it and tell us what happened. Yeah, okay, thanks, Jim. So this story, I was probably like 12 or 13 at the time. I was staying with my dad's girlfriend at the time for the weekend. She had two daughters around my age.
Starting point is 00:42:43 And then in their neighborhood, there was a lot of other kids our age. So we had a lot of people to play with. But this was a particular weekend. I went over on a Friday night, and we decided to have like a get-together, a little dance party. and I am super shy, so I was not out dancing, but I was standing on the patio, like, watching everybody. And I happened to, I don't know what made me look over there, but I looked over at her garage, which was detached from her house, and I saw the shadow of a little girl standing
Starting point is 00:43:15 on the side of the garage underneath the window. So I was like, well, that's weird because everybody's dancing, so I, like, looked out. There was nobody standing still. So then I was like, well, maybe it's me because I'm the only one standing still. So I started moving and the shadow did not move. So I was like, oh, this might be paranormal. It might be, might be. So I looked around. Nobody else seemed to have seen this.
Starting point is 00:43:42 So I kind of brushed it off. I was like, maybe I'm just like I'm seeing things. This is fine. So we ended up going to bed that night. We woke up the next morning. And I kind of told my dad's girlfriend's daughters about it. and they were like, why don't we go see if we can, like, see her, like, we can find her, whatever. So we went outside and into the garage, and I saw her standing in the back of the garage.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Again, from the neck down, I never saw a head. But we were standing in the garage for a second, and I was just overcome with, like, intense sadness. So I just started, like, a full body sobbing. And the daughters, they were like, oh, my gosh. God, so they took me outside because they were like, what's going on? And I was like, I don't know. Like, this just all came on. So we walked away from the garage and I was fine. The sadness lifted. I, like, stopped crying. Nothing was wrong. But any time we got within three to five feet of the garage, I would start crying again. So it was very scary because at 12, I was like, what is going on? I don't know what's
Starting point is 00:44:50 happening. So we ended up going back inside and talking to my dad's girlfriend about it because we were like, what is this? And she was like, I think something's trying to communicate with you. Why don't we have a seance tonight with everybody? At 12 years old, I did not realize just how dangerous it is to do stuff that you're just not sure of what you're communicating with, but went with it anyway. So that night, it was me, dad's girlfriend, the daughters, and a few other of the neighborhood girls went into the garage. And I remember my dad's girlfriend telling me, like, I needed to keep my emotions under control because she didn't know if this thing was, like, trying to latch on to me. She felt with the intense emotions that it might be.
Starting point is 00:45:40 So she was like, I need you to, like, kind of keep it together. I was like, that's a little easier said than done, but I will try. And it was the dead of summer. So that plays into, well, talk about in a second, but we had set candles up in the garage, two by the garage door on either side, and then two in the back of the garage, away from the windows so that if we needed to, like, debunk anything we could. So we all joined hands and lit the candle in front of us, and we just asked if anything was there, if it would give us a sign. And then soon after, one of the candles by the front of the garage blew out. So I froze, like my whole body was cold. And my dad's girlfriend was like, okay, like, thank you. If that was really you, can you prove it and blow out one of the candles
Starting point is 00:46:33 in the back of the garage? And no sooner than she finished the question, one of the candles in the back blew out. Yeah. So at that point, I am petrified because I'm like, oh my God, I really have been, like channeling something possibly. And I remember we were kind of just like asking general questions like, how can we help you? Like, what do you need? And my dad's girlfriend's daughter squeezed my hand really tight. We were all sitting on a couch. And I looked over at her and she looked petrified.
Starting point is 00:47:08 And I at that moment felt the couch cushion behind me depressed like somebody had stepped on it behind me. behind me and my back went ice cold and it lasted for about two three seconds and then the couch cushion you know undecressed like the foot was no longer on it um and went to the other side of the couch but the window behind me the curtains never blew so it wasn't a breeze or anything and like i said dead of summer so it was really hot that night um and i i was just so scared but i remember my dad's girlfriend was like, well, clearly you need something, you need attention. So she actually ended up inviting this thing into her house. She said, if you need a place to stay, you can stay in my house.
Starting point is 00:47:56 And right after she said that, all of the sadness lifted from my body. It was like it never happened. And I remember looking at her and saying, I think that worked because I don't feel it anymore. So we ended the seance shortly after that. and just ended up going back home or going back in the house and going to bed. But I remember over the next few weekends of staying there, we did have a few occurrences in the house. I don't know if they were connected, but they seemed to be only happening when I was there. So it felt like the little girl or whoever it was was trying to let me know that she was in the house.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Did you have any sense of the history of the place? What might it cause this? I could sense it felt like that girl had been killed and that is all that I could get. And I didn't know how. I didn't know if it was on the property at some point before, you know, all the houses went in or if it had been, you know, this girl just found me and and latched on and decided that I was the person that was going to help her. Subsequently, in your adult years and so forth, and I guess your later teen years,
Starting point is 00:49:12 did you always feel that you had this sensitivity? Have you tapped into other spirits? Yes. Not as strong. I've had one other experience with the like intense emotion. But I think after that because it was so scary, I tried to not like play into it as much. But people laugh because I can go into pretty much any place,
Starting point is 00:49:35 like a house, a building or whatever. And I can tell you if it's haunted or not. Wow. Because something is trying. something. You know, it's interesting because I've asked psychics this. Now, I'm one of those people who totally believes that people have some psychic gifts. Yeah, I think there's some quote psychics that are put on that maybe you're trying to do it, you know, to make money or whatever. But everybody, I mean, I think everybody deserves to earn a living. But I mean, you know, maybe to an extreme kind of thing. But I do believe there are people who have real psychic gifts. I think there are some real psychics out there, definitely. And I've asked them many times over the years when I interviewed. them. Is this something that you can switch on and off? Because it would seem to me that it would get difficult sometimes if you couldn't switch it off. But it sounds like you've kind of developed that a little bit. Yes. I think I just learned a way to like ignore it to a certain point where it doesn't
Starting point is 00:50:31 bother me as much anymore. But yeah, I can, I know that my house is not haunted. I'm fine being there, but I've been to my other friend's houses and I'm like, there's definitely something here. So call Megan if you think you have a haunted house, but that doesn't sound like that. Megan, thank you for joining us, O-H-I-O and stay spooky. Stay spooky, Jim. I was just telling our next guest, Ben, from England, that I wish we got more UFO stories. Because I think, you know, as important and interesting as the idea of ghosts and spirits in the afterlife are, And the afterlife is probably my number one topic, but probably that's number one.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Number one A is that of UFOs. I wish we got more UFO stories. I think people are a little more reluctant to tell their UFO stories. So if you have one, make sure you sign up at Jimherald.com slash campfire. But Ben has one, and he's going to tell it to us right now. Ben, thanks for joining us. Tell us what happened. Hi, Jim.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Yeah, absolute pleasure. Do you figure me. I'm a little bit hoarse today. I stayed up for the Ingleing game. on Saturday. No problem. Hey, I know what it's like to be a sports fan. And boy, that World Cup, I think that's really a capture.
Starting point is 00:51:45 I know over in the States, I feel like there's more traction this year because we're always fascinated with American football. And there's really a fascination with it. I think everybody's excited. It's a lot of fun. I think everybody's enjoying it. It seems to be a going to a sports bar anywhere. It's right there front and center.
Starting point is 00:52:01 So I think it's great. So I'm glad you had a good time. Tell us your story. Yeah, so just a prelude to this, I've got a very close friend. We've been friends since what you call high school. He's 6'7, he's a serious guy. He's what you probably see in a Bond film. He's probably a Bond villain henchman, that type of.
Starting point is 00:52:28 Like Richard Keel. Absolutely. He's a good guy to have around. Crowds part. crowd's part of him. Anyway, he's a very serious guy, but he does like a laugh and a joke. We, big movie fans,
Starting point is 00:52:43 we went to see the film Disclosure Day. Great film, loved it. I thought they gave a little bit much away at the end, but I'm not going to, obviously, if no one's seen it. Sure. On the end of that film, how do I do this without spoiling it,
Starting point is 00:53:03 you've seen the film. Yes. I'm just going to say there's a fleet of images, isn't there? Yes, I think that's fair to say. A fleet of images on a screen, and on one of the images, it jogged my friend's memory more than it didn't mind. This UFO encounter happened to both of us, but I have such a busy life that I'd forgotten about it more than my friend had.
Starting point is 00:53:32 and on the image in the film it's one of those UFOs where it's just it's like a triangle with lights all around it but the middle hollowed out so it's just like a black it's just like a black triangle but with the middle hollowed out and it's got lights all around it
Starting point is 00:53:54 and on the way back so where I used to live and where my friend lives it's about 10 or 15 minutes travel time in between our two houses. And when we were younger, we used to, I used to pick him up because he can't drive him. I used to bring him back to my, we used to have takeout, we used to watch films. And then I'd take him back and go roughly around midnight. We used to, I had a lad's night, basically. So one particular night, this was around 2010, I believe. It was summertime. It was windows were down, it was warm
Starting point is 00:54:28 and we were travelling back, we got to this crossroads and the lights were on red, they turned to green, I turned right and then out of nowhere my mate says, what the hell is that? I'm not kidding you, Jim.
Starting point is 00:54:46 His face went white. Now this is a serious dude, this is you know, he doesn't mince his words and he says it's a craft. There's a craft hovering on the road. And I heard this electrical humming, like a strange, like a whirring sound,
Starting point is 00:55:04 like a strange whirring sound. And I looked in my rearview mirror, and I saw the same object on that Disclosure Day film that I did. So as we traveled down the road, I saw going back up the road that we'd just come down, this craft was inches off the ground. Huh. And I mean at first I like to discount things and I like to say oh
Starting point is 00:55:30 Was it an Arctic? Was it? Because it was big Jim. It was huge and it was traveling along the ground and my mate's fascinated on it. He's fixated on it and he's saying look look look and I turns around I see the same craft that was in that image on the film Huh. It's my one and only UFO encounter that I've had
Starting point is 00:55:55 but if it was just me on my own I'd be like oh it's just whatever it is but the fact that he saw it too it's just validation I mean I'm no stranger to high strangeness I've battled with negative forces in my home I've seen floating apparitions I've seen deceased people
Starting point is 00:56:17 family members in my mind's eye so I'm no stranger to the paranormal itself but for my friend a serious person to bring up this subject 16 years later for this film to trigger that memory of this craft that we both saw floating up and then it just vanished as soon as we saw it is gone
Starting point is 00:56:44 and I can remember the noise of it the mechanical were, like I had a silencer on it almost. But he said, my friend said how big it was. And he said it was no Arctic, it was no lorry, it was no car, because it took the space, the road was fairly big. Right. And it took the width of the road. And it was just traveling so smoothly, so, so smoothly.
Starting point is 00:57:14 And it just gone. And I caught, I saw, I remember him in my mind's eye now, I saw the lights on it. And it was just pure black, pure blackness, nothing else. But again, I'm going back to this fact that my friend saw it and remembered it. And again, he's a serious guy. You don't trifle with him at all. Well, I got to tell you, you know, those black triangles, there was a big guy.
Starting point is 00:57:42 I don't know if you remember, there was a big flap. I don't know if it was in the 80s or the 90s in Belgium with people's. seeing black triangle UFOs. And then there's been cases law enforcement has said seeing them very large. I've heard reports that they were as large as a football field, American football field. So I guess what I'm saying is that to me that's one of the most interesting ones. I'll just say this about Disclosure Day. This is kind of my theory. I got to watch how I'm saying it so I don't spoil it. I appreciate you doing that, Ben. But you said there was a fleet of images, a lot of images.
Starting point is 00:58:19 And I kind of wonder if Spielberg has seen some things and if this movie is his way of communicating the things that he is seen without, you know, breaking any confidence or, you know,
Starting point is 00:58:37 kind of putting it under the guise of, oh, this is entertainment. But I'm wondering if some of those images are actually things that he has actually seen images of, if you know what I'm saying. I'll leave it there.
Starting point is 00:58:48 I don't want to spoil it, but that was my theory. When I walked down, I'm like, this man has seen some things. This man has seen some things. I agree with that. And I also, sorry to interrupt him, I also think maybe I go one step third.
Starting point is 00:59:01 I mean, I'm a bit of a conspiracy not myself. And I'm just wondering, has Spielberg been contacted by the government to drip feed this out through mainstream media? I could be clutching its straws, but it seems quite convenient at a time
Starting point is 00:59:19 when disclosure is hot topic. I mean, who else to do it than the main man of film? It's a good point. It's a good point. And again, very down-to-earth people have reported very similar things,
Starting point is 00:59:35 Ben. When I hear the black triangle reports, those are ones that really resonate with me and I'm like, yeah, there's something else. Plus, I think about something like the Phoenix Lights, which was almost like a boomer rang shape. And that's one that fascinates me. It doesn't get nearly enough coverage, I don't think. You know, thousands of people saw it, including celebrities like Kurt Russell, I think, saw it. You know, unfortunately, it happened maybe 10 or 15 years too early because that happened in the 90s. And, you know, at that point, we still had the old VHS camcorders and stuff. And now it would have been so much more interesting to see that happened. All the different angles that people would have gotten with their cell phone.
Starting point is 01:00:15 and things. Yeah, definitely. But that one always made me thinking, that's almost, it's not quite a triangle because it didn't close the third side, but it was like a boomerang kind of shape, and then they said it was flares. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 01:00:27 I don't believe that. And coincidentally, my sister was traveling with my, with my grandma down the motorway. And she saw an orb like UFO in the late 90s, I believe. and she's convinced
Starting point is 01:00:47 and she's a serious person as well we're all quite a serious we like a laughing a joke we're not boring people right no but I know what you're saying but she says to this day she's got children now and she says to this day
Starting point is 01:01:02 and I just thought that we were both siblings and we've both seen craft that's I'm just if there's a connection to that, which I thought was quite interesting. It is quite, it is interesting. And it seems like there's a whole other dimension to UFOs than just the idea of craft. Maybe it's
Starting point is 01:01:26 something spiritual. Maybe it's something, you know, maybe there's a familial connection like you're, you're kind of suggesting. It is a fascinating topic. Hope we can cover it more on the campfire. Ben, thank you for sharing your story. Keep your eye to this guy and stay spooky. Stay spooky, Jim. Pleasure. It's all up to the family. Just a quick word before we get back to the campfire. You know, people say, Jim, I'm new to the show, but where are all the old shows? How do I get those? Well, I have an easy answer.

Sometimes in life you just have these experiences that stick with you. And this is just such an experience for Liz. And it sounds very interesting. Can't wait to hear it. Liz, welcome to the show, oh, H-I-O, and tell us what happened. Awesome.
Starting point is 01:04:44 Well, thanks so much for having me, Jim. I'm a huge fan of the show. I've been listening for years now. And, yeah, I just love hearing people's experiences because I think most people you know have some kind of story that's paranormal or a head scratcher. And, you know, so it's nice to hear all these people's stories. But anyway, so 2017 and September, me and my husband, did a trip to Iceland and it is just so,
Starting point is 01:05:13 it's just a very different place. It's volcanic and so, and there's like not a lot of forested areas, so it's very, you've got all these sweeping landscapes that are really open and beautiful and it's like a lot of nature. There's only a few hundred thousand people that live there and two thirds of them are in the city. Anyways, so, so fun, so beautiful.
Starting point is 01:05:34 So we visited this park. It was called, um, I mean, I'm just going to do my best with the Icelandic names, but it's called Thingvalier Park. And it's in this area that's a rift valley. So it's where the North American and the Eurasian tectonic plates hit each other. And there's all these canyons and like, you know, kind of rocky spaces that you can walk through on paths, which is super cool. So my husband was just kind of done with the park and he just wanted to hang out in the car. And so I was like, okay, well, I want to go walk. So I go down this path. And so it's getting to be dusk. It's kind of chilly. And I go down into one of these paths that goes through the canyons. And there's nobody there. It's, you know, maybe a handful of people, but it's just really quiet. And it's got kind of these tall, rocky sides. And I just start feeling kind of uneasy and kind of creeped out. And, you know,
Starting point is 01:06:38 Which I'm not really like, I'm not really a supernaturally sensitive person generally. I have friends that are and I've never had really, you know, a lot of over weird experiences. And so I start feeling creeped out and I'm looking around and I feel like I like I'm being watched or something, which is kind of interesting because in Iceland they have a lot of folklore around the little people. And so I could just imagine, you know, these little people peeking out of me. around the crevices or hiding in the little holes and I was like, oh, this is kind of creepy. So I walked down the path
Starting point is 01:07:16 and then at the end of the path there's this pool of water, this kind of dark pool and it's kind of got grass and these sharp rocks all around it and there's a little plaque. And so I go over to the plaque and I look at it and it says the pool has a name
Starting point is 01:07:32 and it's Drekeinarvalur or something like that. however you say that but it's called the drowning pool so essentially yeah so from i ended up researching from 16 to 1618 to 1749 18 at least 18 women were drowned in the pool for various crimes yeah so and it was anything from kind of perjury and kind of immoral grisly crimes um so in the pool the women were drowned they would you know It's gruesome, but they had stick them in the pool.
Starting point is 01:08:10 They would hold them down with a pole until they had died. But then in that canyon as well, they executed the men hanging them from the rocky canyons, like the side of the canyons. So there was even more people who had been executed in that area. So it was just, it just felt so eerie that I just felt a dark sense in that place. And usually I love solitude in nature and I like to be a little. in nature and it just had this dark feeling. And then it was confirmed by, you know, the history of that space. So it was really wild. You know, I really do believe places hold energy. I really do. And if something, bad things happened in a place, I'm not saying it's 100%, but I'm
Starting point is 01:08:58 saying in some cases I think that that energy can persevere, it can permeate a place, and it can literally come back and give a bad vibe hundreds of years later. Everything you're describing to me, I feel, is absolutely plausible, the sense that that place still has an eerie feeling to it. Now, is it someplace that you would go back or did it strike you so intensely? He said, I'm not saying Iceland in general, but that particular spot, would you kind of stay away from it? I would go back to Iceland 100%.
Starting point is 01:09:33 I don't know if I would go back to that park, because he's not. even when I was going back through my photos of the park, I got a bad feeling, even looking at the pictures. And I was like, oh, I'm just, this place just does not feel right. I just don't think I want to go back to that spot. I believe it's a thing when they talk about buildings. They talk about the stone tape theory. And I'm sure that that can happen in nature as well. I believe it's a real thing.
Starting point is 01:10:00 Yeah, there's some spooky places out there for sure. Liz, thank you for sharing our first, I think, Icelandic story ever on the campfire in what's it been 17 years. So thank you for that. And thank you for being on the show. Oh, HIO and stay spooky. Stay spooky, Jim. Thanks. Well, next up, we have a treat all the way from Australia.
Starting point is 01:10:24 We have Mike and Judy. And they're going to tell us about a strange encounter when they were, uh, out sailing. Mike and Judy, thank you for joining us all the way from Australia. I appreciate it. Tell us your story. I don't know who wants to start, but go ahead. Tell us what happened. Okay, I'll start.
Starting point is 01:10:47 We were sailing down the west coast of New Island in Papua New Guinea, returning home to our base in Rebell. after completing the 13th rebel Kavian yacht race in the year was 1984. We sailed our 42-foot catch inside of Dow Island about five nautical miles off the shore. There were two rainstorms either side of us, but we were sailing between them. So all the stars were bright and shiny and with rain either side of us.
Starting point is 01:11:26 I was on watch with the boat boy Henry who was sleeping under a sail on deck I checked the radar and there was a blip running parallel on our starboard beam when the blip reached 360 degrees the compass swung wildly the blip stayed four nautical miles
Starting point is 01:11:48 offshore and swung the compass 360 degrees the stars were still above us and the stars were full. When the blip reached 360 degrees on the compass, it stayed behind us. And we were sailing 180 degrees south going back to our port. Looking back, there was a white tube of light reaching from the sea to the sky. Now I'll hand you over to Judy.
Starting point is 01:12:19 Oh, at this point you punched me and woke me. I was asleep. And he just got, sorry, I've got a frog in my throat. That's okay. I was sleeping and he just gave me a lunch and said, hey, come and have a look at this. And I worked from a fairly deep sleep and I found it rather frightening. Not having taken the full details of our surroundings and what was happening,
Starting point is 01:12:49 it was frightening. And I was letting my mind. have a right spell. And thinking that aliens were about to take us, as you do when you're out in the dark with nothing much around you but water and sky. And I started to think and get frightened. And my first thought was,
Starting point is 01:13:21 I'm never going to see my children again. Wow. At this point, I might cry. I hope not. Anyway, sometime we approached the lights, after some time we approached the lights of Rabel. And what relief that was, the blip that was described as a column behind us had moved off to the side and had been pacing us on, and we're still there. And a little bit frightening, wasn't sure what it was, and yet we were still in our dimension,
Starting point is 01:13:56 so not a problem, hopefully. On shore, we met up with a friend and we started to tell him of our experience at which surprising enough, when we started to relate and then we told quickly, by him, don't tell me, I don't want to know, say nothing. And that has surprised me ever since why. I don't know the reason why, but we didn't talk about it. But it was some months later, quite some time later, we had a couple knock on our front door.
Starting point is 01:14:42 In Keynes. It was in Cairns where we lived at the time. And they looked, they were American. There was a lady and a man. And they each wanted to know what our experience was. and when we sit down and talk to them about it. Huh. Now, we have not spoken about it.
Starting point is 01:15:01 You tell me how did they know? That's interesting. And that made it even more scary. Now, maybe you said this, but again, explain how large they were. And they look like fluorescent light tubes, basically. Is that right? Yes, it looked like. about 20 foot across and it was straight up into the sky like a white fluorescent tube.
Starting point is 01:15:30 Wow. Just disappeared in heavens. Yeah. Yeah. And when it was the same on the side, wasn't it? Yeah. And that's interesting that that couple, that American couple came to you. After that night, you hadn't talked to anybody about it.
Starting point is 01:15:48 Anybody about it. This is a couple of years later when we got back to that. Oh, yes, quite some months later. A good year or two, I think, when they came to a knock on our front door. And we've never spoken it to anybody. So you, you're pretty... I mean, you do get strange happenings at sea in the quiet and... Sure.
Starting point is 01:16:09 And it's dark and, you know, it gets a bit eerie. And, of course, I don't know, if you have an imaginative mind, like, I've got... You can think of many, many things. things. So, you know, but we, we didn't, you know, we didn't say to anybody this is what we saw and we kept it dark. We just didn't say anything. So that has always been a problem for me anyway as to how did they know, why did they know, and where, you know, and what were they wanting from us other than the story? Right, right. Well, here's the thing that I'll say is that You know, there's a long history of people seeing strange things in the ocean.
Starting point is 01:16:56 Christopher Columbus, on his way to America, apparently saw lights coming from underwater. So this is, you know, this seems to be very common in the open sea. I have just having been out to see on a cruise, even on a large ship, you're right. At nighttime, it is extremely eerie. and I could imagine being out on a smaller boat and you're in this massive sea and you see these strange lights. Now, you said something about,
Starting point is 01:17:28 you thought at one point, Judy, that the aliens were going to come take you away. So you lean towards the idea that it was some kind of E.T. or something like that. Is that what you think it was? Well, I'm thinking of dimensions. Like you can move from one dimension to another.
Starting point is 01:17:44 And there have been over the years many people disappear and I never see you're found and all of these sort of things if you haven't managed in mind and I've got that so you think of things that are never going to happen but they've got them happening to you I think
Starting point is 01:18:08 I think of Flight 19 the Bermuda Triangle I think it was 1945 they were training and they had weird radio transmissions and they all just disappeared. And I don't think the wreckage was ever found. I don't know for sure on that. And it was multiple pilots, I think, is something like five.
Starting point is 01:18:27 I don't know the exact number off the top of my head. But some strange things happened in the ocean. You were saying, Mike, what were you saying? It is five. Okay, that's what I thought. That's what I thought. Any final thoughts on this experience before we let you go, and I appreciate you sharing it?
Starting point is 01:18:45 Yeah, it wasn't a... Small boat was 42 feet, which was huge for us. Oh, no, that's very impressive. That's very impressive. I was thinking in relation to like an ocean liner, but yeah, that's, that's awesome. That's awesome. Well, thank you both. I appreciate it.
