Hey everyone, just sliding into your podcast app of choice to let you know what's coming up on the show this week.
This week, we're talking about women's health's new campaign, the loneliness remedy,
and explaining why we're asking all of you to make sure you get your other five a day.
Ahead of the full thing dropping on Thursday, here's Jeffrey Hall,
Professor of Communication Studies at Kansas University,
explaining why, if you are struggling with loneliness,
it's probably not a good idea to spend too long scrolling on social media.
First, it's not more is better.
You're not looking to have every day have deep meaningful talks with everyone, right?
It's not possible and it's probably not, you know, really in your best interest.
And there is research that says is when we have that motivation to interact,
decreased because of our social media use,
we're less likely to turn to the more in-depth conversation
because we've already used up all our energy on scrolling through Instagram for an hour and a half.
And I think that if you think about this idea, even though it's really efficient to look at Instagram and get information from it, it doesn't require the kind of depth of connection that allows people to really feel socially nourished.
Catch the full thing on Thursday.
