Hello, going for goal listeners, I hope your week's going well.
I'm just sliding into your podcast app of choice to let you know what's coming up on the show this week.
On Thursday, we're unpicking the tricky topic of burnout.
What it is, what it isn't, and why it's really weird its head this year.
And, of course, how you can stop it sucking all the joy out of your life.
The full episode drops on Thursday, but until then, here's a little snippet in which one of the experts on the show,
Professor Josh Cohen, who is a psychoanalyst and professor at Goldsmiths in London,
shares his advice for how you can avoid getting in your own head about everything that needs to be done
when you're trying your very best to relax.
I think we all have the experience of sinking inersially into the sofa
and closing our eyes in exhaustion.
And then what happens to most of us these days is that we feel a kind of stab behind our temples
which says, oh my God, what do I have to do next?
Listen out for that voice, but instead of becoming its servant,
tune it out. Say, I understand, I understand you feel that there is something urgent that I need to do,
but actually this moment of shutting my eyes and withdrawing into myself is more important.
In a way, it's about training, about cultivating yourself, to recognise the claim of your own tiredness
and your own commitment to yourself.
Tune in on Thursday for the full interview.
