Though guided meditation can be used by anyone, it is more frequently used by those new to meditation, as the added assistance and support of a teacher can be helpful when first embarking upon the practice.Guided meditations generally teach participants the basics of meditation techniques as well as offer instruction and insight into how the mind and thoughts work, how to understand better and relate to your thoughts and emotions, how to use meditation techniques in daily life, and how to settle the mind and body for meditation. There are various types of guided meditation practice, each with a specific focus or technique it promotes. Mantra-guided meditations focus on the repetition of a word, phrase, sentence, or affirmation to yourself or out loud as a means of helping to find focus, develop calm, and increase positive emotions. Focused attention-guided meditations encourage participants to focus on a single object (i.e. sensation, breath, or body part). As thoughts wander, focus is to be redirected to the object. Starting point is 00:00:00 We appreciate your interest in today's meditation life skills podcast. We sincerely grateful for your support. Welcome to this guided meditation for beginners. This meditation is ideal for those who are new to the practice and for those who are returning to meditation. In a few moments, we're going to delve into the practice of meditation with me as a your guide. Meditation is your own personal practice of being still and enjoying quiet, peaceful moments, and in time you will develop your very own way of practice. So as we move into this guided
Starting point is 00:01:03 meditation, simply release any existing ideas or thoughts of what and how it should be. and suspend any judgments that you may have about meditation as we begin. So find yourself a comfortable position in a location where you will not be disturbed and where you can have the time and privacy to completely explore meditation without the external pressures of everyday life, invading your time and space and now once you're comfortable, seated, spine straight
Starting point is 00:01:55 and bare feet placed firmly on the ground I'd like you to pay attention to your breath inhaling and exhaling through the nose or the mouth whichever is best for you and always filling your lungs with the clean, fresh air as you inhale and releasing tension and negative energy
Starting point is 00:02:35 on every exhale. And continuing to focus on your breath and as you do so, just notice how your body is feeling. Are you experiencing any tension in your body perhaps in your neck or shoulders, your back or your jaw. Just continue to focus on your breathing. Allow your breath to move into these places of tension,
Starting point is 00:03:40 releasing all of the tension as you exhale. Bring in your attention to your breathing. is the easiest and quickest way to bring your awareness to the present moment. And feel your body relaxing as you continue to observe your breathing. Feel the tension leaving your body, leaving your hands and feet, your jaw and eyes, your neck and shoulders are all relaxing now.
Starting point is 00:06:07 And still observing your breathing your breathing your breathing, and feeling more relaxed now. You notice the occasional thoughts coming into focus in your mind. Try and just observe the thought. Is it an image, a feeling, a task? Do not participate. Just let it go by and return to listening to my voice and focusing on your breath now.
Starting point is 00:08:06 There's no need to hold onto any thought or follow it. Whatever you have to do once this meditation is over, you'll remember. And so it's fine to release every thought and memory just for now. And as you focus on your breath, you may be aware of the rise and fall of your chest. just feel the relaxed, almost limp-like state of your body and you're enjoying this relaxing, formless time
Starting point is 00:09:33 that allows you complete freedom in time and space. And now, as you have your eyes closed and your body relaxed, enjoy the sensation of deep rest. Continue to observe your breathing. letting go of everything that holds you to your everyday life. Our daily lives are hectic, demanding and stressful. It's fine to take a moment to withdraw from the busy daily life, the demands and expectations of others.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Just for right now, take a moment to focus on you and your needs. Breathe in, keeping your focus on your breath. It's okay if your mind wanders. This is perfectly natural. When you notice your thoughts drifting off, simply bring your attention back to your breath and release those thoughts. Being still allows you to connect more easily to your feelings and your inner desires. Meditation is all about your inner connection, your inner peace,
Starting point is 00:14:39 and your ability to focus on you. Allow this to happen now. You may experience a floating sensation or the complete opposite, an overactive mind. Both are fine. This is your personal meditation journey and your practice will deliver
Starting point is 00:15:11 what is best for you as you progress and expand your practice. Just allow your thoughts to slow down a little. Use your breath to help you. I'm going to take you into a visualization now. Just for a few moments, follow my lead. I'm here with you all the way. Bring your awareness to the space just above your head.
Starting point is 00:17:22 Do you notice the vast openness all around you. This is your space, your universal space. It is open and unrestricted. Feel free to float around in your space. Enjoy the freedom to just drift in any direction, any which way you please. Allow your awareness to remain
Starting point is 00:18:14 in this space. Just floating, drifting easily, smoothly with no effort on your part and you sense the space all around the vastness
Starting point is 00:19:03 of universal infinity is where your awareness is right now. Bring your awareness back to your body now. That was just a brief visualization, allowing you to experience the infinite possibilities of meditation. Now notice how your body feels. Calm and refresh. Congratulations, you've taken the first step on your journey of meditation.
