My name is Mike Bro, and whether you're taking a walk or working out or sitting on your back deck or driving in crazy traffic or sipping coffee like me, honor we get to hang out for a few minutes together today. And we've been talking about how God leads us through life, how he speaks, how he guides, how he molds you and me, and the right kind of people. Let me ask you, anybody been on a road trip this summer? Well, well, if you have, you know that most of the fun doesn't come so much from reaching your destination. Most of the fun revolves around who you're making the trip with. And we left off last time talking about how God's greatest passion is to road trip with us.
Starting point is 00:01:05 And when our greatest passion is the road trip with him, we began to feel his leadership, and the deepest desires of our heart begin to surface, and we start to find deep fulfillment. We've been hanging in these verses from Psalm 37. Let me read them again today. Trust in the Lord, and do good. Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord.
Starting point is 00:01:29 trust also in him and he will do it rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him I love those reminders and I love the fact that we've been reading them over and over I've been trying to memorize them and stick them in my heart and I would encourage you to do the same because those seven verbs trust dwell cultivate delight commit rest and wait are great verbs to stick in our lives and to apply every day yeah I read a story years ago about a guy named Stephen Trotter. He's kind of a daredevil dude who done a bunch of crazy stuff, but he wanted to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Now, I don't know how many of y'all I've ever been to Niagara, but man, it is, it's amazingly powerful. I mean, they're just
Starting point is 00:02:12 millions of gallons of water pouring over those falls. And a handful of people have kind of done the barrel thing and survived it, but he had a girl named Lori Martin wanted to be the first couple to do it. Now, that's a creative date idea, right? If you make it over in a barrel, you might be meant for each other. But they got this, like state-of-the-art barrel. It was Kevlar wrapped and had oxygen on the inside. So it was a really good barrel. But I'm reading a story thinking,
Starting point is 00:02:36 okay, so this is crazy, man. I don't think I would do this, but, man, it's a, once you get inside the barrel, like, how do you get in the river? You just get rocking and roll down the hill. How do you do this? Well, the article said this, very simply, once inside the barrel, Trotter's brother and friends pushed them into the river.
Starting point is 00:02:58 And 16 seconds later, they were safely at the bottom of the falls below in one of the overlooks. And I'm reading that thinking, who what a rush that would be! But the line that jumped out at me? 16 seconds later. For 16 seconds, they had absolutely no control of their lives.
Starting point is 00:03:19 They were completely yielded to the flow of that river. And I thought, you know what? That's the way I want to live. Not in some crazy go-over-the-falls-in-a-barrel kind of way, but I simply want to dive into the river of God's will and wherever the flow of His wisdom wants to take me. Let it be so. So how about it?
Starting point is 00:03:41 Why not throw your life into the river of God's loving wisdom today and just see where the flow might take you today. It might surprise you. Maybe pray as soon as you shut this podcast down. God, I surrender this day to you. Put somebody in my path today that needs a touch from you. And when you do it, help me notice and respond. And, gang, if you do that, you'll be right where he wants you to be,
Starting point is 00:04:06 living in the center of his will. Hey, listen, you don't need a barrel. But I hope today is an absolute rush as you do life with him. See you next time.
