In this week's episodes, we will be hearing from our special guest.
Christine Kane. And now let's dive in to today's devotional.
Hey, Lake Point Church, my name is Christine Kane, and I am so fired up to be joining you this
week on the Daily Drive with Lake Point Church podcast. Okay, I hope you've made it with me
until Thursday and that you have learned the English that King Charles only wishes he could speak.
This is what happens when you become one of the colonies like we are in Australia. We refine
the English language, and this is how he wishes he could speak. So we're picking up. We're
the book of Joshua this whole week, we've talked about what it is to possess the spiritual
promises of God for your life. Of course, we've got to cut away those things that are hindering us
from living on mission for Jesus. And then, of course, we've got to take some time to heal
and to grow to where we need to go, to allow God to do a deep work in us so he can do a great
work through us. Then we fill ourselves with Jesus because this whole deal is about Jesus,
and it's all for Jesus. And today, we're going to pick up in chapter 5, verse 11. It says,
The day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate of the produce of the land,
unleavened cakes and parched grain.
And the manor ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land.
And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel.
But they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
Okay, so you go, what has this got to do with anything?
It says that the manor ceased.
I just want you to figure this.
For 40 years, God had done.
dropped food out of the sky. For 40 years, God had provided miraculously. I mean, the children of
Israel would wake up and it's like, there is today's matter. Now, of course, it was only enough for that
day, but that's all they needed it. They needed it for that day. So for 40 years, God had done something
a certain way. God had dropped it out of the sky. You know, by the end, they didn't even need faith.
God was going to do it because God had always done it that way. But then, as they're going to go into the
promised land, the Lord's like, I'm not doing it that way anymore. I know for 40 years I've done it a certain
way, but it says the manner ceased. A lot of us, we're not good when God stops doing something the way
he's always done it. And so the famous seven last words of the church are, we've never done it that way
before. And then we all like freak out with anything change. But in Christ, things that he never changes.
He's the same yesterday, today, today and forever. But can I just tell you, everything else does. And so here
is the deal. There are so many of us and we are going to yesterday's manner and we're picking up
yesterday's manner that is moldy, that is stale, that has no nutritional value anymore and we're
trying to suck nutritional value out of something that God is finished with. So I wonder where the
Lord might be telling you it's time to move on in some area of your life. You know, when I think I started
doing certain things in ministry, working with young people and if I loved what I was, I loved what
I did and I love doing it with a passion. But the Lord had, not that you ever graduate from that,
because we're always young at heart, always we'll stay young at heart, but the Lord had a different
realm of ministry for me. Now, I've got to tell you, it was women's ministry. Now, at the time,
I thought that would be women's miseries. And I was so sad, I thought I must have done something
really wrong for God to want to move me out of youth ministry into women's miseries.
And the fact is, I'm to say that very tongue in cheek, because that was my stereotypical, that was the way
I thought it was going to be. But what God was wanting me to do was to step into women's ministry
and bring all of that youthful component into it and unite the generations so that the young and old
would be working together. Now, I'm saying that to say, imagine if I just got stuck in what I was doing.
And I was saying, no, I can't move on. I can't do anything different because this is how it's always been
and this is how I like it. We love to be comfortable. We love things to just be normal. We don't like to
change some of us. We don't even want to take a different route to work. We don't even want to
go to a different restaurant on a Tuesday night because this is the restaurant we always go to. This is
my question for you today. When was the last time? You did something for the first time.
See, as Christians, we love to get comfortable. We love things just to be secure. We love to get in a rut.
And the Lord's like, behold, I do a new thing. Do you not perceive it? And sometimes when we don't
recognize the new thing, we think, oh, because.
this is not how God's always done it. It mustn't be God. And God's like, no, no, no, I'm just bored with
the way that you're always doing it. We're doing a new thing. We're reaching more people. We're doing
things in a different way. Churches that continue to be relevant in our generation, to reach this
generation, they've got to be prepared to shake some things up. So how about we shake up maybe
how we get into our Bible reading? We're like, I'm bored. Have you tried to do it maybe a different
way? Try it a different Bible reading plan. Now, of course, you're always going to listen to this podcast.
But in addition to that, maybe there's a different Bible reading plan.
Maybe you think, gee, I'm feeling bored with just the way things are at church.
Have you thought of serving?
Have you thought of getting involved in some area of church life?
And you're just like, well, okay, that's going to do something different.
Sometimes it's just a small tweak that's going to make a massive difference in your life.
The Lord here, he's saying, hey, I'm not doing it how I did it.
In fact, in the promised land, he said, you're going to plant your own corn, Joshua.
you are going to basically make your own bread and plant your own corn.
I'm not dropping it out of the sky anymore.
There's a demand that God puts on us when we are mature believers as we grow in him.
He says, you know what?
I'm going to dig into the deposit that I've put on the inside of you
and you're going to start pouring out.
There was a time I did it a certain way,
but now as you've grown and you've matured,
it's time for things to be done a different way.
So I want you to consider today as you go through your day.
What might the Lord be asking you to change up a little bit
so that you can step into the promise.
Where have you just gotten into a rut?
And be careful, because sometimes we dig a rut long enough,
it becomes a grave, and it's the end.
And God has so much more for you.
So ask him, where can something be different in your life
that might breathe fresh fire and fresh life into your spiritual walk?
Thanks for tuning in today.
