I'm praying this stuff is helpful to you.
Starting point is 00:00:38 It's super informal. We're just hanging out talking just a few minutes every day. We're just challenging each other and trying to listen to God, say to us in this brand new year. Come on, walk this way. I had the old, you know, aerosmith guitar lick in there. Walk this way. But there are a much better paths to walk down that lead to fulfillment and adventure and deep satisfaction and legacy and life. and God's inviting all of us to get on that road this year.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Now, anybody else a walker? I played sports all my life, which meant I ran a ton. I did distance running for a while. I've done lots of sprints and what they called suicides in the gym and a lot of jumping, a lot of cutting, a lot of starting stopping, and it did a number on my knees. So now I just walk. The only time I sprint these days is when my flight is already boarding in another terminal.
Starting point is 00:01:27 I'm a walker. I'm just a walker. And I try to get in like 15,000 steps a day. And I found it helpful when I'm walking to do these four things. I got to map my route. I got to download a new playlist, something to listen to in my mind. I got to find somebody to walk with me. And I just want to keep a steady pace.
Starting point is 00:01:44 And I'm finding the same strategy is true for walking with God. You choose your direction. It will determine your destination. And you download some good stuff into the playlist of your mind that can help you change the way you think. and rewire some of those neurological pathways, a new healthy perspective on life. And we've been talking this week about the importance of finding some good people to walk with.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Now, I've said this a bunch of times before. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. You know, people who might be struggling to beat an addiction, they never do it until they join a group. People who want to lose weight and get healthy have so much more success when they're not trying to do it all by themselves. Those who need to heal up from, you know, some relational wounds, they often find
Starting point is 00:02:32 healing and support groups of people that have been there and found healing themselves. It's just the way God designed life to work. It works no other way. Your brain, your heart, your soul, your body all respond to relationships with other people. Relationships are where we get our fuel. It's where we get our motivation, our sustaining power, and more. In fact, did you know that the Chemistry in our brain changes when we know that we have support. You may have heard about a test they did with a monkey in a cage. They put him in like a very high stress situation. Loud noises, bright lights, crazy music, all this stuff,
Starting point is 00:03:16 and they measured his stress hormones. They were like off the chart extremely high. Then they did nothing whatsoever to change the environment. all the exact same stresses, but they put another monkey in the cage with him. Exact same environmental surroundings. But the stress levels were cut in half just because there was a buddy in there with him. So I don't know, maybe the lesson for us to get some other monkeys in the cage with us, right? Here again is our walk this way verse for this week.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Proverbs 13, 20, whoever walks with the wise will become wise. Whoever walks with fools will suffer harm. so let me ask you who you're walking with. Praying you'll take a risk and find some wise friends today. Have a great day. We'll see you tomorrow. Thanks for tuning in today.
