And now let's dive in to today's devotional.
Hey, welcome to the Daily Drive podcast. My name is Mike Bro, and I'm honored to spend a few minutes with you each day. As together, we navigate this thing called life. You know, God just longs to do life with you and me to walk with us in a real and intimate relationship, and that's what we were created to do. And I've been praying that this time we spend together in His Word will just help us all get to know him better and love him more and maybe trust him a little bit more with our hearts. We're walking through a letter that's called Colossians. You can find it toward the back of the Bible.
You can pull it up on an app like you version and follow along.
But we are in chapter one, and we've been identifying some characteristics of this church that
Paul writes to that ought to be true of all of us.
We have seen so far that, like difference-making churches like this one, are full of people
who, first of all, live a distinctive lifestyle.
They're full of people who pulsate with a passionate faith and overflow with an inclusive
love.
Now we're all the way down to verse five.
I know we haven't gone too far.
And six, but Paul talks about how the word of truth, the good news, the God,
possible has come to them. And then in verse 6, he says this, the same good news that came to you
as going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives just as it
changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God's wonderful
grace. So here's a fourth characteristic that dynamic churches are marked by. They're marked by
people who embrace life-changing truth. I love how he says, it is bearing fruit everywhere by
changing lives, just as it changed your life from the day you first heard and understood the
truth about God's wonderful grace. I'm telling you, it's amazing. How powerful the message of the
gospel is. I mean, the simple truth that Jesus Christ died for our sins was buried and raised on
the third day, when that is communicated in kind, understandable, culturally relevant ways,
lives are changed. Now, I know some of you know me only as the host of this podcast.
And some of you know me as a pastor, preacher, dude that's been doing this for a few years now.
Oh, okay, decades.
And those of you who have heard me preach or teach, you know, I love creativity.
I was in student ministry for a whole lot of years, and I guess I never really grew up.
But I want people to get it.
God's grace has radically changed my life, so I'm all about figuring out ways to help people in this culture grasp God's love for them.
So I love using props and video clips and art and humor and slices of real life and music,
whatever will help people understand.
In fact, I think those of us who teach are compelled to be creative and flexible
so that God can use us to really connect God's heart with people who might be pretty far from him.
And I've experienced that being relevant and current and creative will break down barriers
and give us a listening ear.
But make no mistake about it.
people are still saved and transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is a dynamic message of the good news of God's love.
That's what changes lives.
And one of the reasons I am so stoked that you would take the time
to do this little Bible study with us is that as you begin to download
the truth of God's word into your mind,
his truth replaces all the lies that have been stuck in there for, like,
who knows how long, your way of seeing God, your way of seeing this world,
the way you're seeing other people, the way you see yourself, your perspective on life,
all that starts to change.
And as your thoughts start to change, guess what?
Your behavior starts to change.
And the way we live is it's always a reflection of how we think.
And some of you heard me talk before about how you get a re-wallpaper your mind.
I love the remodel houses.
I love getting involved and all that stuff.
I do the demo stuff, putting it back together.
But I cringe, cringe every time I see wallpaper that needs to come.
come down. It is the absolute worst thing to do in remodeling. And I don't know about you, but when I came
to Jesus, I had a ton of outdated, nasty, untrue, evil junk plastered all over the walls of my mind.
And I had to ask the Holy Spirit to do a little demo to help me strip off all that old white
wallpaper and re-wallpaper of my mind with his truth. And it's a daily process, this mind-changing.
but it is life-changing.
So I just want to encourage you, even challenge you today,
to let this little book of Colossians help re-wallpaper your mind.
I mean, maybe after we're done today,
grab a Bible or an app and just reread what we've gone over
and ask God to speak to you.
And if you will do that,
I think you'll begin to see that Jesus was dead on
when he said, when you embrace the truth,
that truth will set you free.
Man, I hope you have a great day to day,
and that the good news of God's love will overflow in you
and touch the people that he puts in your path.
See you back next time.
Thanks for tuning in today.
