It is Friday on the Daily Drive, and we're going to wrap up our discussion today about what causes you and me to drift in a relationship with God. So far, we've talked about how we drift when we stop counting and we start comparing, when we stop gathering and we start isolating, when we stop resting, and we start running, when we stop praying, and we start panicking, when we stop climbing, and we start coasting. Let me just give you a few more today, and then we're going to download one of those songs we've been downloading into our hearts that just might keep us from drifting.
Starting point is 00:00:59 as much. I've also found that drift happens when we stop giving and we start grabbing. When we're not generous with our money, when we're not generous with our stuff, our time, when generosity does not define our lifestyle and it becomes all about acquiring more, we drift. Drift happens also when we stop serving and we start sitting. When we're living beyond ourselves, when we're using our gifts and talents and we're serving other people, it feels like we're hitting on all cylinders and life is a blast. But when we sit it out, drift happens. I think drift happens when we stop wondering and we start wandering. When we lose that childlike wide-eyed wonder of who God is and what he has done,
Starting point is 00:01:42 when you and I lose that sense of awe and worship and we start wandering, searching for that elusive next thrill, drift happens. And there's probably lots of other things I could list as contributors to drift. But I'm guessing you found at least one of those in the last couple of days where you went, yep, that's me. So if you want to stop the drift, just reverse this list. Stop isolating and start gathering. Stop running and start resting.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Stop panicking and start praying. Stop coasting and start climbing. Stop grabbing and start giving. Stop sitting and start serving. Stop wandering and start wondering. Get proactive and intentional about starting or restarting some of the things that will keep you anchored. So here's that anchoring kind of song that David wrote. It's in Psalm 42. He begins this way.
Starting point is 00:02:33 As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. You know, Jesus told us, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for God, for they will be filled. And David talks about drifting from that. He says, my heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be. I walked among the crowds of worshippers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration. So why am I discouraged?
Starting point is 00:03:07 Why is my heart so sad? Why have I drifted? Because I have. So I'm going to reverse that drift, and I'm going to drop anchor. He writes, I will put my hope back in God. I will praise him again, my Savior and my God. Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you. Each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
Starting point is 00:03:30 and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God. I will praise him again, my Savior, and my God. He's writing, I drifted because I stopped hungering. I drifted because I stopped thirsting.
Starting point is 00:03:49 I stopped trusting. I stopped remembering. I stopped thanking, I stopped praying, I stopped singing, I stopped praising, I stopped gathering, I stopped worshipping. So I'm going to return to the things that used to keep me anchored in him. Hey, drift happens, but we can start doing some things that will keep us grounded, keep us anchored so that we don't look up one day and say, how in the heck that I get here? You know, I pray this weekend.
Starting point is 00:04:18 You would head to a local church, much like Lake Point. and you would pray and you would worship and you would praise, you would gather, you would sing, you would thirst, and you would learn, and you would drop anchor. Man, I love you all and pray for you daily. Hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for tuning in today.
