My name is Mike, and we're just trying to spend a few minutes each day connecting with God
Starting point is 00:00:37 through His Word. And since the start of this new year, we've just been talking about hearing God say to all of us, come on, just walk this way. And we've talked about the importance of mapping your route, choosing to walk a new direction because your direction determines your destination. And then you've got to download a new playlist. Just start feeding your mind good and true and right and noble and excellent, healthy stuff. because great people, they just think great thoughts.
Starting point is 00:01:03 And then we talked about how crucial it is to find a partner, or two, or three, to walk with some wise, close, trusted friends who can just walk alongside of you to encourage you to speak truth in your life, to point out any blind spots you may not see to pick us up when we fall. I mean, God made us for community. We're designed to do this life together. And once you do all that, we talked about this yesterday, you just keep a steady pace. Because the truth is life isn't a sprint. and as much as we want to make it one, it isn't a competition either. It's just this daily, steady walk with the lover of your soul. Yesterday we introduced this walk this way verse.
Starting point is 00:01:44 It comes from the Old Testament. The Bible is Micah 6.8. Some of you may have heard it before, but it simply says this. He has showed you, oh man, old woman, what is good. What does the Lord require of you to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? for just for a few minutes today. Let's talk about the first part of that.
Starting point is 00:02:03 To act justly. I think you roll out of bed every day. I say, you know, I'm just going to choose to do the right thing today. I'm going to choose to treat people in the right way. I'm going to choose to look at other people through the eyes of Jesus. I'm going to choose today to see those that may be out on the fringes. I'm going to choose today the champion for the underdog. I'm going to choose today to walk with integrity.
Starting point is 00:02:25 You just say, God, with your help today, I just choose to act justly. I choose to react in the right way. I told you at the beginning of the year that I was going to walk down a different path and living this different way. So you know what, God, today I'm actually going to walk in it today. And as I choose to do the right thing, I'm asking you, just put somebody in my path today that might need to touch from you. So you just keep a steady pace.
Starting point is 00:02:49 You stay focused on your new direction, even when you don't particularly feel like it. Because if you wait until you feel like changing, I'm telling you, you'll never change. But if you just choose to do the right thing, whether you feel like it or not, the feelings eventually catch up to behavior. Some of you're familiar with recovery programs.
Starting point is 00:03:11 AA uses the phrase, fake it until you make it. Now, when they say that, not talking about being inauthentic, it's never inauthentic to just do the right thing. You just make the choice. So you know what? I'm going to act justly today. Even though walking this new direction feels a little weird to me, I know I'm on the right path.
Starting point is 00:03:29 because anytime you start to walk a new direction, anytime you start making a major change in your life, it's going to feel a little strange at first. I mean, the hyper-driven, out-of-control workaholic, leaves the office early. Now they're sitting down at the dinner table at 6 o'clock with the family thinking, oh, man, this feels so weird, I've got so much to do. Those who have drank or smoked for a long time, they're going, man, there's not a drink in my hand,
Starting point is 00:03:51 there's nothing hanging off my lip. And we get so used to the old that the new feels abnormal. But if you will focus on doing good rather than feeling good, eventually your feelings will catch up. Here's another verse that I might encourage you today is you just choose to do the right thing. I love it. Galatian 6 verse 9 says, so let's not get tired of doing what is good. Because that's just the right time. We will heap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Man, I'm just praying today. You'll keep a steady pace. Just act justly today. and keep walking this new direction. See you tomorrow. Thanks for tuning in today. For more biblical teaching and worship, join us for our church online live weekend services
