Starting point is 00:00:00 You are Locked On Hawkeyes, your daily podcast on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome back, Hawkeye Nation, to a Wednesday morning episode of the Locked On Hawkeyes Podcast, your daily podcast covering your Iowa Hawkeyes on the Locked On Sports Network. As always, I am your host, Andrew Wade. Excited to be back for another show today. And as I teased to you, we are joined by the man, the myth, the legend, the peacock, the original peacock himself, Frank Garza. Frank Garza is going to be joining the show.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Talk about Luka's mindset going into the tournament. Talk a little bit about the tournament and talk about the Elevate program that he has been working with Luka on for many years to get Luka's mind right going into his basketball journey. So we're going to talk all about that with Frank. Before we get into that, if you do like the show, give us that five-star review. Subscribe wherever you download this podcast at and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. That being said, let's get into our conversation with Frank right now.
Starting point is 00:00:59 All right, so Frank, we're back. We've had you on before. Last time we talked a lot about your time in developing Luca and the father-son relationship and also the father being a friend and how that has all kind of played out. But now we'll be back for a different reason. First and foremost, Luca Garza, named Unanimous All-American today as we're recording. I want to quickly, I didn't tell you about this before we started, but what is your reaction to that? You've got to be pretty excited, right? quickly i didn't tell you about this before we started but what is your reaction to that you got to be pretty excited right well yes i certainly it's what a what an honor and to be the only one unanimous and i talked to a couple reporters that thought that he should have been unanimous last year but one person didn't vote for him out of the 63 so he wasn't able to get it but uh it's such an
Starting point is 00:01:40 honor to be in the same breath as many of those players and certainly those that have been able to achieve that designation as a unanimous so yeah full of pride on that one and and uh so thank you for asking yeah yeah so you're down in indianapolis we uh we're all excited for for saturday that's the big day iowa versus grand canyon university but we're not here to necessarily just talk about that game we're here to talk about how we got to this game and more specifically how maybe Luca got to that game and some of the teachings that you do with your program Elevate. So let me just kind of kick it off to you. What are you seeing coming into this game with Luca and the mindset and what are you working on with him right now to get him into that mode? I'm sure he's pumped up and ready to go,
Starting point is 00:02:23 but how do you almost maybe calm him down in a sense yeah it's a really great question i mean the uh you when you think about his season uh this year uh and just focusing on him if we can for a month because the other question because it's pressure for everyone but yep imagine and his his 90 well it's 100 year old great grandmother was sitting around watching this because she's in California with my dad. And she was sitting around going, man, this must be awful for Lucas' teammates to see every time the TV's on, Lucas' face is there. Every time you mention college basketball, his face is there. Every time you mention Big Ten, his face is there. Every time, every commercial about college basketball lucas face is somewhere there and she said his teammates must hate that to
Starting point is 00:03:10 constantly see that you know just you know because just the natural reaction when i keep seeing lucas we have a whole team and then she said andrew which was also good and she goes he must hate it too right so my point is imagine playing where the expectation, based upon what you did the year before, and the fact that you're coming back now, except that now every program has been studying you for over a year intensely. And now with COVID, all they have to do all day is watch your film. They have nothing else to do.
Starting point is 00:03:43 They have to go to class. They don't have to do that. Even other players in the big 10 have taken his moves as they should i've even gotten texts from them some of the players saying hey man thank you for that move that was great you know they mean it they mean it in all sincerity but the point is could you imagine facing every game with that load of expectation where what are you going to do now when are you going to break the record what are you going to do now? When are you going to break the record? What are you going to do here? Are you going to be player of the year? Are you going to do this? You can do this. Just nothing like it was last year.
Starting point is 00:04:11 So in answer to your question, how do you combat all the outside noise? How do you diffuse that? And because you're not going to stop it. It's on TV everywhere. You can't go, well, I'm just not going to look at it. Or I'm going to, I'm going to look at it or i'm going to i'm going to slap myself every time i see it well you have a bloody face right and so what we had to do is is spend way more time on on silent not so much silencing the noise but diffusing it putting in its right perspective and and and keeping it in perspective. Because every time you go on the court, well, geez, if you haven't, you know, you're expected to have, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:49 it's like if Luka has a 19-point game and nine boards, it's considered a terrible game. Yeah, I actually had to talk about that on the show. I'm like, Luka Garza had a bad game. And I'm like, for Luka Garza, for 99.9% of American college basketball athletes, Luca Garza had the best game of his life, but for Luca Garza, it is a below average game. I have to bet every single time because the realist,
Starting point is 00:05:15 the expectations are so unreal for him. Yeah. So, and that, and that has an impact. So we've had to combat that because it's, it's nonstop and it's unrelenting and uh so it put a whole different level of of outside noise on him and then coupled Andrew with the fact you can't go out and relieve that stress by just going to class sit in the library hanging out going out to have a bite to eat just get just get some separation no he's everybody you know he's roaming the four other players on the team so it's like you you know you're you're just
Starting point is 00:05:51 constantly around each other and that has a toll and so um he had a little period where he had a little bit of a dip there where it kind of got to him a bit and we doubled down on it and um and he's processed through it and so he's grown so much because imagine, again, that kind of pressure where everything you do, you're being looked at. Triple check, double. I mean, even Beeline, you have guys, you know, Coach Beeline does a whole review of here's Lucas Tranks. So every coach is looking at that.
Starting point is 00:06:19 So they're preparing to defend that and they still can't stop them. And to me, that's just like a tribute to his teammates to make sure they get on the ball when it is. It's a tribute to Luca, how hard he's working and getting positional. And keep in mind, no one really talks about this when they're analyzing the players, but there's no other player in America who's, when they look at Iowa and they go, okay, we're going to prepare for Iowa that Lucas, what they're preparing for. Boom. Number one, they don't do that when any other team with Iowa or Illinois, they got four or five of them. Boom. It's not just Iowa. It's, it's Kofi.
Starting point is 00:06:54 You got it. You know? So it's like there's so many other ways where Luca is getting all that attention. Secondly, Andrew is you got to realize there's two, three guys coming in with fresh legs every seven minutes, bashing and pounding the living snot out of them. And he won't take it, but it takes a toll on him in terms of just the wear and tear. He was exhausted at the Illinois game because they only had five hours
Starting point is 00:07:16 sleep after the Wisconsin game. And then they had to get up and play. And that was, and then it was too hard for Joe. He was still hurting and same with CJ. It just wasn't enough time in between there. We're now we're in a position to be a little bit different. play and that was and then it was too hard for Joe he was still hurting and same with CJ it just wasn't enough time in between there we're now we're in a position to be a little bit different yeah I mean that was something I didn't even take into effect and take into account but they played the late game on Friday they're coming off they're tired they didn't have that much rest and you got
Starting point is 00:07:37 to factor in Joe and CJ Fran even said he didn't really want to play them he thought about not playing them because the ultimate goal is winning the NCAA tournament. And I want to get into that a little bit because when Luka decided to come back, he had bigger plans. He had plans of winning a national title with his teammates and having another amazing season with his teammates. It was not about him. It was about the team winning a national title. And when you talk about the elevate program one of the things you talk a lot about is manifesting what you want to happen right it's it's seeing
Starting point is 00:08:10 it so clearly that all you do is think about it and that when you're thinking about it you're there and you're a part of it i want to get a sense from you about how you've incorporated that with luca and how he has kind of embodied that for this season and what the ultimate goal is for the Iowa team. Yeah, no, it's like a great question, Andrew. It's, it's true. When, when we're talking about the elevate material in particular, and I know you went through it, I mean, since you, you know, you have you talking about it, but the point's this, we're already doing this as humans. We're already behaving internally in a way it's already going on.
Starting point is 00:08:47 So Elevate's all about first making yourself aware that that's going on because we're not aware. No one taught us this stuff. You know, we didn't know about it. How could you know that that was happening until you were exposed to it, you know? And so there's that piece to not become a victim to your inner works uh but to become a master of it so when you talk about a national championship it starts with self-talk you know what are the teams saying you know you could pretty much hear everyone talking about that goal so the number one thing is get everyone reading from the same sheet of music which is what the purpose of why we're here what we're trying to do and then
Starting point is 00:09:29 the other thing is uh i always recommend is you know you know where the tournament's going to be you know what date it is you at least you should know what date it is april 5th right otherwise you're not really believing you're going to be there otherwise you would know what date you know how many days were left in the season until you played. You know, and so you know, Marlouk was aware of all that and the team's all aware of that. They played here before
Starting point is 00:09:53 and so they're aware of what the surroundings are going to be like. They talk among it, you know, talk about it among themselves. They have a culture about it. That, hey, what we're doing here, the reason why we're here is to win it.
Starting point is 00:10:11 And I think you've heard everyone talk about it in terms of this is what we're going to accomplish. All right, we're going to quickly pause that conversation with Frank and tell you about the episode and who it's sponsored by. It is sponsored by Bluetooth. Starting point is 00:12:44 And when I actually went through level one of the Elevate program and, you know, thank you for reaching out to me about that. It was, to me, it was amazing because I have experienced what you talked about one time in my life. And it was for about 11 months. And I told you this before, but it was when I was training for my Ironman, I have never felt so in tune with everything I was doing. Everything I was doing was training for my Ironman, I have never felt so in tune with everything I was doing.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Everything I was doing was all for one goal. I was sitting on the couch, watching TV, envisioning myself running that Ironman. And the entire year, all I thought about was that everything I did was for that. Everything I did was consciously to get to that level. But what I've never experienced outside of that is for the other 29 years of my life, I haven't had that. Everything I did was consciously to get to that level. But what I've never experienced outside of that is for the other 29 years of my life, I haven't had that. I haven't had that positive self-talk. I'm going to do this. I even told you this. I wish I would have understood some of those principles when I was a very above, I would know a very average, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:41 high school athlete playing baseball, right? I had some scholarship offers, but what had, what if I would have went up to bat every single time, knowing I was going to get a hit or knowing I can take on that picture as opposed to thinking, dear God, Andrew, I hope you hit the ball. And then I get, I got a hit. We're good. Like, what if I would have been able to embody that? And so having those principles were very huge for me to understand that I can still, I can still manifest these things without having to have a goal like an Ironman. You can do this on your day-to-day life. You can do this with everything you're working towards professionally and personally. And so to me, just those three sessions were – and I went to the first two and then saw the recording of the third.
Starting point is 00:14:19 But it was amazing for me. And even talking to Bakari Evelyn, uh had him on the show before the illinois game uh he spoke glowingly about it and how you know he started he started off the first half of the season he never had performance anxiety before and then once he started utilizing the principles that you teach he was able to get into a better mind space and felt like he had been better than he'd ever been in his entire athletic career which i think is amazing yeah. Yeah. Well, thank you for sharing that, Andrew. Cause again, I just want to point out to everyone. It's not like, um, we've got some kind of technology that was discovered in some cliff hanging
Starting point is 00:14:55 outside on tall years, something like that. No, this is, has been around as long as we've been humans. It's just, it's not conventional to teach inner skill development in school it's so outside driven and for some reasons are good and particularly a time like now wouldn't it be great if if some people knew how to use some inner skills with all this the COVID and stuff in fact I we had a couple teachers in that one class you had that are starting to teach pranayama with the science of breath to their their their students and finding great she said i couldn't believe that the the kids actually sat still in a meditation when they went through because it's fun to do when you do it it can be fun and then you look forward to doing
Starting point is 00:15:36 but my point to what you're saying and everything is absolutely right we're already doing it naturally and of course i use the examples of know, how did your mother tell you about school for the first time? Remember, perhaps your first Christmas or perhaps, Andrew, your first field trip where you were so excited about it that you thought about it. Your mind was focused on it. Nothing was going to stop you from from achieving it. You couldn't wait for it. So I'll just use the mother example for a moment. I love it so much. It's like a great mom that teaches you about school starts talking to you maybe as early as eight months in advance, a year.
Starting point is 00:16:16 You know, you're going to be just like your sister going to school. Let's tell you what school looks like. Well, first we're going to go shopping. Why would we need to go shopping, mom? Because you're going to get new clothes for school. Oh, wow. This must be huge. Yeah. We get a nice little lunchbox. You're going to get the snow white, some little princess, you know, on your little mug and you're going to, Oh, I'm so excited.
Starting point is 00:16:40 You're going to meet friends. You're going to have so much fun. And they're going to people and pretty soon she's pulling on, on her mom's legs and let's go to school today let's go to school it's like honey it's not for another six months but it's going to be so much fun so she prepared you she made it sure that you were oh well it's going to be fun your mindset was there you were going to accomplish it you had enthusiasm you almost lost slight sleep the night before you couldn't wait to get there just like a christmas can't wait you don't sleep for two days just to open the presents in anticipation so an elevate as you know now we're just giving you that i'll give you teaching you exposing that technology so that you can reclaim it reclaim it because it's not taught so pretty
Starting point is 00:17:21 soon it's running you it's managing you and no one's updated your software no one's updated what you want to do and so that's what that's all about just like a good mom talking to you about your first day at school and how much fun it's gonna be yeah i mean and it's it's like you said it's not it's not anything that people can't do right everyone can everyone can do and everyone can uh channel these things that you're teaching is putting them all together and being consistent about it and not just doing it once and saying, I'm good. It's doing it each day and being very deliberate about focusing on your mental energy as well, just as like you would do with your physical energy. When I was training for my Ironman,
Starting point is 00:18:00 it was all physical, right? But I realized just as much as the physical component is important, you need to be able to train the other pieces and recover and worry about the mental side of things as well and not focusing on other negative energies. So I'm curious to maybe tie us back to Luca a little bit. What does he do? I mean, when you have these teachers, what is he doing on a daily basis to right the ship, I guess I could say, practice and work? All right, one more pause of the conversation with Frank because I've got to tell you about BetOnline.ag,

Now let's wrap up with our final segment covering the Elevate program and Luka and Frank's journey with Frank Garza. Yeah, great question.
Starting point is 00:19:40 And I want to share it like this. We're already doing it. We're just victim to it. we're non-conscious to it so the issue is do you want to keep being having some old archaic program you may have learned as a kid uh that now is dictating what you do as an adult and the problem though andrew is it's hard to know what it is if you're non-conscious to it in other words can't see the picture with the inside the frame right can right? You can't see your own ear. So that's why this exposure is so important, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:09 is to, because it's not a one-time improvement, it's a lifetime improvement. It's now I can take it and put it in every area of my life that I want to do. And that's the beautiful thing about it. But let me be real clear about it.
Starting point is 00:20:23 What we're really talking about here is what we call in the language of where this is all rooted is a biopsychosocial approach. That's one word, by the way, biology, psychology, sociology. We must take a 360 view to one's development, which says you can't just work on biology. You just can't stuff new drills and pound and pound on the outside. Right. That's just only one. You've got the other two pieces. What have you done about the psychology and the sociology? Well, if you haven't done anything, it's a disservice to your people. And so what this all adds up to, Andrew, is what we call in the biopsychosocial world, what we call coherence. You're only going to perform on
Starting point is 00:21:06 the outside in a manner that's consistent with your inside. And to the extent that your inside is not matching your outside, you're not in coherence and you will not, you're only going to perform in a manner at the level of your coherence. So when mind, body, spirit's in alignment, you're at an elite performance level consistently, not just one time, every time. And conversely, when you're not coherent, you're going to perform at the level to the extent that you're not in coherence. So what does Luca do? Well, we have a daily meditation routine, deep pranayama work, deep breath work, visual mode of rehearsal, you know, where what we're trying to do is you experience that, Andrew. And I don't know if that was the first time you meditated when we went through our stuff.
Starting point is 00:21:55 I don't think you've seen it when you thought about that. You may have hated it. So I may open myself up here for, you know, I hated it, Frank. But, you know, in terms of that, for Luca, what we're trying to do is to go from your brain down about 12 to 14 inches to your heart center, because that's where all activity goes on. So you got to, through breath is the currency that we use to get into our inner. So in other words, just the opposite of the outside stuff, right, Andrew? Outside skills, running, jumping, lifting weights,
Starting point is 00:22:30 pounding stuff, no. Breath, you know, your heart rates up, you're sweating, you're like, well, no, when you're doing pranayama, you know, science of breath, you're slowing the breath down to one to two breaths per minute at a minimum. And where the level we're at, it's one to two breaths per minute at a minimum. And where the level we're at,
Starting point is 00:22:45 it's one to two breaths per minute. And then number two is as a result of slowing down your breath, you're slowing your heart rate down by maybe 10 to 20 heartbeats a minute. And why do we have to do that? It's the only gateway to your insides. In other words, it shuts off all the outside noise. So now I can be with who I am. And that person is down there just waiting for you to go say hi, go visit. Now, you do visit that person. But when do you visit them, Andrew? Well, in financial calamity, in some terrible thing where all the outside noise stops. And now you're looking at your life for real. And you're talking to that person. The other time you do it,
Starting point is 00:23:29 particularly when you were a kid reading a great book or, you know, just, I remember Luca reading like Jonathan Livingston Siegel or some, you know, we read the dragon, Aragon, right? You could see you'd be reading it. And then his mind would go because when you read a great book and you're fascinated, everything slows down. You can actually hear your heart rate while you're doing it and what's happening is your voice is coming out you know who you are is that voice that speaks to you when you're in that state of total calmness or you're like reading a great book or you're
Starting point is 00:24:01 sitting in a bathtub totally relaxed all of a sudden your voice comes out. Oh shit. You know, some people call it intuition, excuse my language, intuition, somebody that, but no, that person. And I call it your potential. It's just sitting down there waiting to come out, but you got to go invite them out. They won't come out and play because the outside noise is too much. It's too much. Oh, I don't have time to meditate. Why the outside noise is owning me. Well's too much. Oh, I don't have time to meditate. Why? The outside noise is owning me.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Well, we put a stop on one idea and no more. The insides are going to own the outsides, not the outsides owning the insides. And when you do that, it's such a liberating thing because you're reclaiming your power. I think breath is your superpower. You're reclaiming that. You're reclaiming how to use it, how to update your software. And now you can pretty much go out and do whatever it is that you so choose to do. Yeah. And I think I can speak from personal experience. I have
Starting point is 00:24:53 dabbled in meditation previously before we did that in the Elevate program. And probably the only issue I had was that 95% of the time I fell asleep because I was getting so calm and all of a sudden I would just pass out. But there was, and so I started using it almost as like a sleeping mechanism to calm myself down, to shut out everything. So I'd get a good night's sleep and I would wake up four hours later. I'm like, Oh my God, I am rested. Like it was like, I could finally shut everything down because I was waking up with work dreams, just thinking like, Oh my gosh, I got to get this thing done for work.
Starting point is 00:25:28 And it's like 1130 at night. And I've been sleeping for three hours. And when I started meditating, that allowed me to do that. What I also found was that the other 5% of the time where I would meditate and I couldn't fall asleep, I was so alive and so incredibly focused that I would just crush everything for the next four hours. And so what I realized when I got away from it, when I realized I'm going through the program again, was that I need to be significantly more deliberate about incorporating that into my daily exercises. It is an exercise. It's not a, it's not a body exercise. It's next size of the mind. And again, like you said, pulling out your potential and pulling out what you can do and
Starting point is 00:26:09 pulling out everything that you can possibly bring to the table, whether that's basketball, professionally, whatever you are passionate about. So that was something that really spoke to me. And I've been trying to incorporate that as much as possible. And for me, it's about schedule. I had to schedule things out. I did like, Hey, at noon, I'm going to do this. And I still have to set an alarm just in case I fall asleep because that does happen. But I do wake up at that time and I'm feeling ready. And I'm feeling ready to go. And every problem that I had, I realized is not a problem. It's just,
Starting point is 00:26:40 it's just noise and things that I can get past. And so it's, it's been really, really incredible for me as well. Right. Well, that's a, you know, it's a great point. First off, you can't mess up meditation. There's just no way. So it's just, I want everyone to know out there. You can't, it just takes repetition. And then some of the techniques we use that alternate breath and the, the cosmic strong routine,
Starting point is 00:27:00 all those things are fun to really zoop it up, but it's like taking your mind to the gym because here's the truth of the matter andrew every day outside noise is happening whether you want it or not so the question is what are you doing about it well if the answer is you're not doing anything about it well then you're being controlled by it not not because you chose to not because oh i want the outside to control me but, it just happens because that's the way our structure of our life is set up. So it really comes down to is you've got to invest in yourself, love yourself enough to say, no, I'm not going to let that stuff make me a victim. I'm going to be a master of it and have tools to be able to deal with it when it comes because there are going to be tremendous challenges. There are going to be pitfalls.
Starting point is 00:27:43 There are going to be tremendous things. And the way you be pitfalls. There are going to be tremendous things. And the way you process through that is through going inside. Now, here's the truth of it. You're either going to process it or not. You're going to deny it, and it'll come out maybe in the form of cancer or some other terrible health reason because you swallowed it. Or with the use of these techniques, you can process it. And like you said,
Starting point is 00:28:09 what happens with meditation is pretty soon that voice tells you, is this really that big of an issue? Are you seriously? Let's gain some perspective, Andrew, but that's that calm voice that's all knowing. For instance, let me ask you this, Andrew, have you ever in your life had this like sense that, gosh, I should do this. Like this intuition, like, oh gosh, I should do that. And then you didn't do it. And you were sorry afterwards. Like, yeah, I started, my body told me I didn't do that. And then conversely, if we ever acted upon it, and then were you sorry because you did it? I don't honestly think I've ever been sorry for acting on some sort of intuition, but a hundred percent, when you think about something, you don't do it. You're like, man, what if I did do that? And I think,
Starting point is 00:28:50 you know, what I want, I didn't tell you this, but after we did that class, I started being a little bit more deliberate about what my focuses were and writing stuff down and doing all those things. So two things here, I think you're going to enjoy this. I'm now in an MBA program. I've always wanted to get my MBA. I'm officially an Iowa Hawkeye. I got into the online program. So that was a big thing.
Starting point is 00:29:12 I was like, if I don't do this, I'm never going to do this. What is holding me back? Why am I being held back? And I was like, you got to do it. I also started my own LLC to do some event planning around here in Denver. So it's been a big couple of months for me, Frank. And I do want to say thank you for helping with, with some of that, that process of that and see the tools, some of the tools. And again,
Starting point is 00:29:35 I'm only through one of these programs. I'm excited to go through elevate level two and, and continue to build on some of these because it's not just meditation. There's other aspects of it that you teach and incorporate. So I think it's very important for people to understand that as well uh meditation is fantastic but there's other components of it that you are teaching it's it's seeing what you don't see it's understanding what is out there and so um thank you so much so i really it's been amazing for for me the last couple months as well oh you're most welcome i'm
Starting point is 00:30:00 so happy to hear that and and again you know, you know, that potential was just there. You just had to open up the valve. And you're right. There are, the thing that we've done at Elevate is put it into a structure that hopefully people go, got it. And now we can, how do you see what you don't see? Well, there's a technique for it. So now we can see what we don't see. Well, what a gift that is, right? Just that, that, that concept of being able to do that. And then what are the other stuff is, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:24 that we go through in the program, which is great. So thank you for saying that. And what a great tribute, because imagine if you would on a daily basis and in nighttime, you know, rehearse the future. And that way, when you go to bed, your mind's going to work to accomplish your rest is going to work. That's one of the concepts in a program. I go to work to get it all done versus just going to sleep to go to sleep and being subject to whatever the last outside noise you heard, maybe you saw a bad movie and it's on your brain versus programming what you want your mind to do. And that's it. Take back over your mind. Don't let your mind keep taking over what you do and how you respond and how you
Starting point is 00:31:06 react i mean people react to events before they even go there but that's how that's how the mind i mean that the mind will not even allow them to go see a new event based upon something in the past that has nothing to do with the present or the future but it will dictate what they do in the present moment and that's just limiting. Imagine a photographer who was a great photographer, but never, never knew about heights. Right. And then all you learned about how to take a picture of a height.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Well, wow. Does that open up a world of potential? It's the same thing. These are tools, tools we are already subject to. We're just taking them back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:43 And the proof is in the pudding i mean again i gave you a couple personal examples i've spoken with bakari and then we look at what luke is doing and not saying it came out of nowhere you got also factor in the fact that he had a basketball size cyst removed out of his you know abdomen and that was a a big helper from a physical standpoint but mentally what he's been able to doing be able to do and block out some of that noise as he's continued in his second season. That first time, when you break out in the scene, it's not nearly as difficult, as you said, as replicating that.
Starting point is 00:32:12 And it's going to get harder when he goes to the professional level because you're going to have guys that are more talented, stronger, bigger, faster than what he's getting on a day-to-day basis, even in the big 10, which is the toughest conference, one of the best conferences we've ever seen. So it's going to be very important for him to continue to practice these concepts as he goes into the professional basketball world as well, because it's going to get a lot tougher in that area too. No, absolutely. And it's like every level that you ascend, you know, when you're, when your best is needed, the more you need to spend inside. So yeah, if I'm spending three hours on the outside and I spend zero on the inside,
Starting point is 00:32:52 it's almost a waste of time, those three hours because you're not going to perform any better. You may perform 5% better one game. You may perform 50% better, but overall you're going to be within 5% of what you did the year before, or because everyone else got better and you didn't, you go down. So how do you go up? Well, you go up on purpose.
Starting point is 00:33:11 You remember our saying, it can be accomplished on purpose, cannot be achieved by accident. So we're doing it on purpose and rehearsing the future rather being subject to the past. And again, for those that may be beating themselves up out there about all this stuff, because that's the first thing to do.
Starting point is 00:33:28 What I learned is like, man, how many years I've been wasting. Well, stop it. The issue is it's all about the future. There's no future in the past. The past is relevant insofar as it illuminates the future. So it's all about not allowing it to happen anymore. And once that happens, it's just an ocean of possibility. I couldn't agree more.
Starting point is 00:33:48 And speaking of manifesting the future and what the future brings, Iowa has a couple games to achieve their goal for LUCA right now. Wanted to get your quick thoughts on that, and then I want to get into the Elevate program and how people who are listening to this could maybe be a part of this and learn some of these techniques. What's the prediction, Frank? What do you think is going to happen the next month? Well, great question.
Starting point is 00:34:13 Well, you know, actions are a manifestation of belief. So I've got my room down here until April 7th, because I'll probably be up late on the 5th and bleed into the 6th a little bit on the end of time and rest and recover before I get on the plane. So that's where I am. I'm here for the championship game to which we'll be playing in and then winning
Starting point is 00:34:31 and then celebrating with everyone. So that's my plan there. And, you know, it's like what reminds me of what Lincoln said. I was telling Luke about this earlier. He said, he says the great thing about the future is it comes one day at a time so you know the trick during this period of time or the real key is that not future trip too much just be present just be dealing with
Starting point is 00:34:54 what i got here and let the future take care of itself because it's coming right it's here you know you're not going to stop it um and you've got tools that that have allowed you to to be able to help create it and um so you're right you know the fact that he has this you know the other benefit of you know the the inner skill work andrew uh is your lung capacity is greater too so you're actually working on your lungs and how many athletes work on their lungs well i spread it well how about expand the capacity? Well, how do you do that? Long, slow breaths, holding it in. Right. So you expand it out. So now your capacity for, uh, recovery, uh,
Starting point is 00:35:35 like Lucas lungs are one and a half, two times out of his, who he faces because he's been doing this for a while. He's been down the court all the time and he's never had a breath, never tired. He wants to say in the game, 40 minutes a game, if he could. I know he does. And he's the slowest guy all the time and he's never out of breath never tired he wants to say in the game 40 minutes a game if he could i know he does and he's the slowest guy but the first one down what's the you know how's that for that a bit of a plotter yeah yeah yeah so i can lie yeah that's mini life all right you know those that could be down there first aren't the one that can't be down to the first is you know so uh anyway that's my that's my two cents there well i'm excited frank uh that when iowa does win that title it is going to be a wild night in the wade household as well i will be
Starting point is 00:36:12 i'll be pumped up uh but where can so i've done the elevate level one um i'm i'm thinking there's gonna be some people who want to probably try to get into that program as well um what are some of the course offerings you have coming up yeah we're just going to release some dates and then go to our sportshood.net and the trainings will be there but so we'll do another level one training and that'll be april 20th 22nd 26th it'll be in the evening now 7 to 8 30 and then we'll do level two there's like seven levels so this would be level two which is very it's one of my favorite ones. My first was one of my favorites, but this one takes it deeper and expands upon it. And that's going to be the April 27th, 29th, and then May 3rd,
Starting point is 00:36:55 seven to 830 PM central time. These are all central times. And so we're going to do those and just, and, and, and take the next round of it. And then based on that, we're going to do those and just and take the next round of it. And then based on that, we're going to, you know, we're looking to potentially certify some other people in Elevate to do more of this. Because I want I want I mean, our goal is to have every every kid, whether it's middle school to be introduced to first. Like what some of the teachers are doing, they're introducing it K through six, but just breathe it, nothing else. And then they're practicing, making sure they're talking to the kids, right? Using reticular activating system, all those concepts and how they interact with their students.
Starting point is 00:37:34 So that when they get to middle school, the students will be aware of it and then heavy into high school so that they've got life skills that last a lifetime, not just a one time. I think so. We're excited about that to see where that is. It's been fun to bring it out. It's exciting stuff. So, I mean, people can go to sports hood.net, get more information on those sessions. Um, if you want a personal testimony, just listen to me. Uh, you can also listen to Bakari Evelyn, who's also going to be on the show pretty much every single game for the NCAA tournament. He's going to be helping me break down. Oh game. Oh, that's fun. I love Bakari.
Starting point is 00:38:08 I'm not the basketball expert here, so I figured why not get one on, right? Bakari. That's a beautiful idea, Andrew. And again, Bakari is a really special kid. He's an amazing guy. Oh, yeah No. And, and what an athlete you talk about an athlete, my gosh. So anyway, how fun is that? That's great. Yeah. So he'll be joining the show. So everyone can check that out. Listen to Bakari. He's been talking a lot about elevate on the show as well and about how that's really changed his mindset. Uh, Frank, thank you so much for coming. Is there anything else you want to, I think, I think that was pretty much all we had on the rundown, right? Is there anything else you want to cover? No, I just thank you for having me back, Andrew.
Starting point is 00:38:46 Thank you for being an open mind and testing this out and seeing it. I had a sense you'd enjoy it because you don't do an Ironman without, you know what I mean? So I'm so happy about that. And then this big gratitude hug for everyone out there for being so supportive of 55 and through all that stuff and what's going on and being so kind to, to our family and to me. And, and you know, I say this a lot, I mean it because it's from the heart is that, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:18 Iowa city, the university has been our field of dreams and where we were able to manifest those things that when Luke was just a young person and it was just he and I and our belief that he could be something because there was no evidence that he would ever be a player. And all those times when no one was looking and what else was doing something else and we're out there doing it. And, you know, when no one cared and they didn't, they shouldn't care, but that we were, you know, seeing him do that. And he was able to manifest it in this beautiful state and this beautiful community. And so my heart's out to everyone out there. It's, you know, I'm a Hawkeye marrow deep as is Luca. And so I just want to thank everyone for that.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Absolutely. And I think we can all say the same back to you all. It's been amazing watching Luca and your family be a part of Hawkeye nation for the last four years, and it will continue to go on for the rest of y'all's life. And we have approximately, what is it? 20, 24 days, 25 days of Luca in an Iowa Hawkeye uniform. And so we should all really appreciate him and Jaybo and Austin and all those guys, the last couple of games we have with them.
Starting point is 00:40:26 And it's been truly an amazing run watching them grow and develop as a team. Super. Thank you again, Andrew. Thank you, Frank. All right, y'all. And that concludes our show. I hope you enjoyed it. We'll be back tomorrow. And if you like the show, give us that five-star review and subscribe wherever you downloaded this podcast at as always folks, I appreciate you listening and let's go Hawks.
