I thank God I was born on the good arms of the Midwest, and not on the battlefields of
the U.S.
It's a time of panic, and it's intercepted!
It's picked off right away!
Intercepted by Marty Hooker!
Pick six!
Eight seconds into the game!
Buffen sets up deep in the pocket, goes down the field for Smith!
Oh!
He's got it!
Smith!
Touchdown.
85 yards.
High on.
Touchdown, 10.
Taking a shot in the end zone.
It is caught.
No offense.
Touchdown.
That's either one or you have it.
Go ahead and three.
Yes.
Two-point lead for the Hawkeyes podcast,
your daily podcast covering your Iowa Hawkeyes on the Lockdown Sports Network.
We are back after a fantastic weekend of the Iowa Hawkeyes beating the Iowa State Cyclones.
I am one of your co-hosts, Andrew Wade, and I am joined here by Zach Cohen, my co-host.
Zach, how are you doing today, man?
What an incredible freaking win yesterday.
Hey, man, I'm doing good.
That was a great win.
It was a gross game.
It wasn't for the faint of heart.
I wasn't really excited.
That's what the national college football fan audience got to see of Iowa sports,
Iowa athletics, the sidewalk rivalry,
but anyone who's watched the rivalry going up and watching the games in the
past know that, you know, those are kind of how the game's going. Hey,
it wins a win. I can't complain.
Yeah, man. I think you summed it up perfectly there.
And also just a quick caveat.
This is probably the fourth or fifth time we kind of restarted this podcast
just because of audio issues.
So we're trying to get through it the same way we would have before,
but yeah, man, it is, it is tough. It was, it was a weird game to watch. I think
it was, it was perfectly imperfect, right? It was, it was such a beautiful game, but it was so ugly
in that sense too. I think people who love, you know, battle the trenches and coaching decisions
and going forward on third and one and, you know, running it down the middle, those are the, like,
that was, that was the game for you. Unfortunately you know folks probably weren't as you know appealed to
it wasn't as great of a game but nonetheless we're going to cover all that um throughout the show
today on segment number one we're going to give our reactions to the game on segment number two
we're going to start a new segment kind of we're going to call it changing the narrative we're
going to cover a few things that you know we either hear on twitter we hear from other friends
and fans and we're going to kind of give our that we either hear on Twitter, we hear from other friends and fans,
and we're going to kind of give our opinions as to whether we think it's
actually true or not.
And then finally on segment number three,
we're going to hand out some game balls to who we thought had a fantastic
game yesterday.
Also, if you are tuning into this show for the very first time,
make sure to like, review, and subscribe,
wherever you downloaded this podcast at.
And also make sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
We have some great giveaways coming up.
We talked about this on the previous recording or attempted recording of
this,
but we did not actually prepare appropriately to,
to release the details of the giveaway that we promised to release on
today's show.
We will do it by the end of this week.
Zach's kind of putting all that stuff together and we're going to get that
information released out to you,
but it is going to involve some of your interactions on Twitter,
Facebook, or Instagram, so stay tuned for that.
We're going to be releasing some of those details here
on the Lockdown Hawkeyes podcast.
Zach, do you want to give some more details on that?
Yeah, so this is like deja vu, but okay, guys.
So we know we're giving away a signed memorabilia
from an Iowa football player.
To be honest, it's Jordan Kanziri.
That's it.
But we are figuring out the details and logistics of that.
So if I was you guys, all the listeners, follow us back, comment, like, you know, rate us
on iTunes, leave a comment, you know, give us feedback.
The more interactions, the better it is for you guys.
And, you know, I wanted to say firsthand for me and Andrew, we want to thank everyone. We got up to a thousand followers, interactions and things were
great during the Iowa game and throughout the week. And we love you guys. We love all the
responses you give us in the comments and how interactive you guys are. And I think it's
awesome. It creates a great little kind of community of Iowa football fans and Iowa sports
fans. And like we said, we want to thank you guys so much. We really can't do this without you.
Otherwise, it would just be me and Andrew talking to ourselves.
So we really do appreciate that.
And more logistics and things like that on the autograph giveaway
will be coming up.
But just keep a lookout on Twitter and other social media outlets.
I love, man, the great giveaway coming up.
And obviously, the Jordan Canzeri thing, if you aren't aware,
if you are tuning in for the first time, we did an interview with him
a couple weeks ago.
It was a fantastic conversation.
Great dude.
Probably going to be back on the show later on, but he's also been willing to give us,
you know, do some autograph stuff for us for the show.
So stay tuned for that.
We're going to jump into segment number one, though, reactions to the game.
And what a crazy game.
Three hours worth of delays.
You know, stop and start, stop and start.
I was saying earlier, you know, I was at Sports Column. Got there at noon for the iowa iowa state game because i wanted to make sure that
i got there with plenty of time to get a seat two hours for kickoff there was one table left we got
it not a big deal had some beers we're getting pretty excited listening into back in black they
even played the george kittle hype video so we were getting pretty freaking psyched at this point
the game starts iowa drives down has a fantastic drive only gets a field goal like all right not a big deal then it's a rain delay like
all right that sucks we're still pretty pumped 50 minutes later we're still excited get into it I
would say drives down the field you know gets a touchdown like oh this is not good that wide
receiver pass was just kind of a deflating moment delay delay a game again. Just a hard – I mean, God, I cannot even imagine being a player
in that situation trying to keep yourself up.
As a fan, it was even just tough to really stay not into it
but just energized, right?
I don't know what your thoughts were watching that game,
but it was – dude, it was a mentally exhausting game overall
just watching it.
Yeah, I mean, it was – I woke up early watching game day like I
was up I was getting ready for it you know a lot of my day was planned around the game you know
my family over and my girlfriend was over too like we were all watching the game we're really
excited for it um hyping the game up the rivalry it was really exciting and then it's just like
everything like it first of all first of all it may have been a blessing in disguise because Iowa played atrociously in the
first, before the first delay and after the first delay.
So maybe the second delay was a blessing in disguise, but Hey, like I,
like I said before, a wins a win guys. I mean,
I know everyone's probably down on the team. Like, Oh, our defense stinks.
Our offense can't move the ball.
We're just relying on a field goal kicker.
But listen, that game was an anomaly.
There's usually not three-hour rain delays.
There's usually not a field that's disgusting.
I mean, we had kids and Iowa State kids running out of the field.
They got torn up.
That's not a real game.
This was basically like if we lost the game, it just sucked.
But if we won the game, that just showed the grit, guys.
If anything you should take away is Keith Duncan is amazing.
Having a field goal kicker in college sports,
as if anyone watched any of the games this weekend, the kickers suck.
They mostly stink.
I mean, it's so rare to get a good college kicker these days.
And the fact that this kid nailed four field goals in terrible field conditions,
that's amazing.
That's awesome.
The Big Ten doesn't play big shootouts,
so field goal kicking and field position in special teams is huge.
So, if anything, we should feel pretty confident about ourselves.
And you know what?
So what did it one off the Iowa State players back?
A win's a win, guys.
When the Bears lost in the double doink, the Philly fans weren't like,
you know what, guys?
You guys deserve to win.
You should win the game.
No, a win's a win.
We'll take it either way.
But one big takeaway we should take from the game
is that our special teams is awesome.
It's great to have that this year.
And also, too, we showed a lot of grit and determination.
We had so many injuries and so many players.
Our defensive backs were decimated, absolutely decimated.
And we still found a way to win.
So come on, guys, be a little positive,
and let's take away the good from the bad.
I'm not saying everyone was negative,
but I did see some comments and people still talking crap about Iowa football,
but you know what guys, a win's a win. We'll take it. And we're three now.
Okay.
Yeah, man.
I think the big thing for me is it's okay to be disappointed in the
performance, but not disappointed in the victory. It's college football.
You have to think these are teenagers and 20 and 21 year olds out there
playing a game there's gonna be bad days there's gonna be good days that's what the beauty of
college football is because there's so much less predictability because of how much variability
there are in these kids because they are really just kids and you factor in the weather delays
you factor in playing against your in-state rival Iowa State was ready for that game they were pumped
they also had a week extra to prepare.
So, I mean, just a lot of things kind of not going in Iowa's favor.
Again, I'm very happy we won.
I think there's a lot of opportunity there as well that we can improve on
going forward.
But just a lot of things to kind of improve on.
We have that bye week coming up as well,
which honestly couldn't be better timed at this point.
But lots of great stuff from that game.
Winning 18-17.
Just so happy that we got the win and obviously you still hear Iowa State fans talking all about it on Twitter
at this point dude just suck it up you lost it was a great game Iowa State played well can you
just be happy that we have two pretty good teams in the state of Iowa Zach any last quick reaction
before we jump into a few quick sponsors and then go to segment number two.
Just, you know, every season's not perfect.
If you guys, obviously, I'm an Iowa fan.
During the 2015 season, we went 12-0 during the regular season.
We had a lot of close games, right?
We weren't blowing teams out.
And the fact is that the thing with Iowa is that I've grown to know is that we lose a lot of close games.
All the games last year, I think, were under 14 points, all of our losses combined.
So you know what?
This could easily have been one of those losses.
It could have been a two-point loss, could have had a game-winning field goal.
But guess what?
It didn't.
It took a lot of lucky bounces our way.
But, you know, at the end of the day, we're 3-0.
We have a bye week coming up.
Just like Andrew said, it's perfect.
And keep in mind, too, I know Iowa State looked pretty good in the beginning
and they looked good against their defense,
but this is a team that had a bye week that so much time to have to prep
for this game.
The game day wasn't Ames.
They said that there was 150,000 people going to the stadium for that game,
making it like the second largest city or town in Iowa. Like it was
incredible. And I don't know if you guys watched the game, but to be honest, there was not that
many Hawkeye fans there. I think there's for every Hawkeye fan, there was like five or six state fans.
So you know what, they had a big home field advantage. College game day was in Ames. I know
it was at our game, but it was in Ames. So they have a lot going for them. People want to talk
about Ames and Iowa State. So at the
end of the day, this could have easily been one of those close games. We lose, you know, three out
of our eight out of 10 games, but you know what? We did it. We won. And like I said, it just shows
our resiliency. Definitely, man. Well, Hey, we're going to jump into a few messages from our
sponsors before we do that though. I want to make sure our listeners know about a fantastic platform

narrative, something we wanted to do just because there's a lot of, I don't want to say, I'm trying
to think of the right word here, but there's a lot of kind of takes being thrown out on Twitter. I
think it's pretty easy to get kind of overreact to a few things, and I wanted to kind of take a
time, take some time to say whether or not we really felt like they were appropriate overreactions or appropriate reactions, or maybe,
maybe not. And the first one I wanted to cover is Nate Stanley. And, you know, he didn't have
the best game of his career, right? Through just over 200 yards, no touchdowns. But you hear stuff
on Twitter. I heard someone in the bathroom, a sports column saying, Nate Stanley's garbage.
Let's put Tyler Wiegers in. I said, hey, man, you realize that you really can't talk
when you don't even realize our backup quarterback from two years ago is gone.
But even then, right, I want to talk about that.
I thought Nate Stanley did a fantastic job of leading the team.
He did what he had to do to win the game.
Those two third down runs were absolutely crucial,
especially because he's not a running quarterback.
Wanted to get your thoughts on that.
Do you think Nate Stanley had a good game, great game, or a bad game?
So I think that he had a good game.
I wouldn't say the great game yet.
He didn't have the Ohio State game like he had a couple years ago.
But I think he was composed.
I really think during that game it would have been really easy
to kind of let the emotions get the best of you.
Obviously, our offense wasn't doing much.
And I think it would have been easy to get down on yourself,
easy to kind of sulk about everything and how the game was moving
and the progression of everything and the weather and the delay.
I think it would have been really easy for him to kind of, you know,
not giving up, but kind of been like, man, this stinks,
and been down on himself.
But it looked like he didn't.
Like you said, those runs were huge.
I mean, I don't – we've – I haven't seen Nate Stanley run
like he's doing this year.
I don't know if it's – there were kind of –
Ferentz is telling him, hey, if you have an opening, like those are easy yards.
You don't need to throw it away.
Don't take the sack.
I don't know if Ferentz is telling them or giving a little more motivation
to do things like that, but it's really opening the game.
I mean, QB spy on Nate Stanley.
Everyone's going to worry more about having coverage on the receivers
in their zones.
No one's going to be looking at Nate Stanley just because, in general,
he's not a running quarterback.
So when he's doing things like that, he's altering the defense.
He's making the defensive coordinator make adjustments.
Whereas before they wouldn't have to,
and they could just know that Nate Stanley would stay in the pocket and wouldn't really move. So I do agree. He scored our only touchdown,
which is great. He made some good throws. And at the end of the day,
he won the game. He's our quarterback. He made no mistakes, no field,
no interceptions. So like you got, you got to take things like that,
you know, with, with how they are. So I just don't think that – I don't think he had a great game,
but listen, he did good enough to win, and that's good enough for me.
Yeah, I mean, I couldn't agree more.
I think as far as the Nate Stanley thing with Kirk Ferentz,
it sounded like they actually knew that Iowa State would drop a lot of guys
back in coverage and there would be opportunities to run.
So, actually, both of those were kind of not preplanned,
but something he read in the defense and knew that it was going to be an
opener or a possibility. So I'm love seeing that. Like you said, gives,
gives Iowa a bit of an advantage and makes defensive coordinators think a
little bit more. Another one I wanted to cover is AJ Epinesa.
I'm saw some Iowa state fans,
especially on our lockdown Hawkeyes Twitter account say, well,
obviously AJ Epinesa didn't do crap, had a pretty, you know,
small stat line. I believe he had one tackle.
The one thing I want to say to that, I do agree it would be fantastic
to see Epinesa get a little bit more pressure on the quarterback,
but I would actually rather see the other guys get a little bit more pressure
because Epinesa is doing his job.
They are either chip-blocking him, they are double-teaming him,
they're triple-teaming him, or one of the things they're doing,
or at least what Iowa State did,
is they ran away from him.
If they're doing an RPO, they're doing it away from AJ Epinesa.
If they're doing a bootleg, they're doing it away from AJ Epinesa.
If they're doing a passing play, they're doing it away from AJ Epinesa.
So I do think AJ Epinesa, I would love to see him get more statistical production.
That's just me wanting to see that.
But I think he's doing outstanding.
I mean, his draft stock is still fantastic.
Teams are game planning specifically to avoid him.
So I think that is another take that I was not very happy with.
Yeah, I just think that, like, guys, like, seriously think about it.
He's not a superhuman.
He's a great athlete.
He's a great player.
And what defines a player in some draft that isn't necessarily always with the stats, it's kind of a lot of the intangibles, a lot of things that he's a great player and what defines a player in what gets them drafted isn't necessarily always with the stats it's kind of a lot of the intangibles a lot of things that he's doing
during the game he had a lot of qb pressures and if you watch the game he made he made purdy make
a lot of different decisions i know they're by the red zone and he was going to throw to the side
it was like a quick uh drop step drop step to the left and aj put his hands up made brock step up in
the pocket and it's just a lot and made Brock step up in the pocket.
And it's just a lot of those things are not in the stat book.
The QB hurries, the pressure, the knockdowns.
A lot of things like that are just really good intangible things that are not going to show up on a stat sheet.
And I think that the people who look at the stat sheet
or look at their games and are like, you know what?
He sucks because of this, this, and this.
Listen, you're not really watching the game.
It's fine to be a casual fan.
It's fine to watch football and root for the team,
but you really can't be sitting here yelling at a guy,
or not yelling, but kind of talking down on a player
that's still a top 10, top 15 NFL draft pick.
It's been three games this year.
You can't call quits on him.
You can't think he's a bust or anything like that.
So it really does frustrate me when people have those arguments. I don't know about you andrew yeah i i couldn't agree more um
i do want to get to one other kind of uh you know changing the narrative and this is the secondary
right so the secondary had a rough game let's be honest um some people were saying you know this is
you know we have a terrible defense we have have a terrible secondary. What the hell is going on? I just want to say I don't necessarily disagree,
but we are very young and we're very freaking injured.
All right.
And DJ Johnson even, you know, he was,
he's arguably the fifth corner on the team.
And I know he's going to be the starting cash.
I think just his performance at the beginning of the game showed why he
maybe wasn't as ready or maybe why we haven't seen as much 4-2-5 in Iowa's defense so far.
Also, the secondary depth has hurt that as well.
But he did improve throughout the game and got better as the game went on.
But those growing pains are going to happen.
It happened last year at Purdue with Riley Moss and Julius Brent getting burnt left and right.
It's just something that we're going to have to kind of live with as we want to see this team grow.
And the fact they were able to do that, still get out of the game successfully, they're going to come back.
They're going to look at those things on tape, get better, prepare, you know,
use middle Tennessee state as kind of a warmup game and get ready to,
for big 10 action.
Yeah, I completely agree. I think that also, like you said,
I think that AJ and AJ is learning, he's doing things like that.
And I also think that when you're talking about in relation to, you know, DJ Johnson, our secondary, these guys are all learning. He's doing things like that. And I also think that when you're talking about in relation to, you know,
DJ Johnson, our secondary, these guys are all learning.
AJ is trying to figure out how to work with all the pressure.
DJ Johnson, our secondary,
trying to figure out how to work together as one team, as one unit.
And like you said, he's going to be starting at cash and things like that,
but he also had a pretty good game.
I know I'm pretty sure he had the pass interference of the game that sucked,
but ended up not being called. But I just want to also shout out to Andrew, like shout out to the secondary,
those guys back there, because man, we were hobbling. We, they even showed the injury report
and even the announcers were like, these Iowa players are missing four to five DBs, like starting
DBs. And let's put it this way. If we can still be at Iowa state at Iowa state college game day
and have basically a decimated defensive back.
That means our line, our linebackers,
are still doing enough job to get the job done
and also that our secondary was playing up.
And like I said, Andrew, I've been saying this the whole year,
whether it's with Aleric Jackson's injuries or Hankins and our DB's injuries,
the next man up, and it just shows that Iowa has all these guys
getting ready to get in the right mindset, even whenever their number is called absolutely man well hey that'll cover it for
changing the narrative we're going to keep this going hopefully for the rest of the season just
trying to cover some of those hot takes that people have about the Iowa Hawkeyes before we
jump into a few messages from our sponsors make a memory that lasts a lifetime and let the Vivid
Seats app help you get to your favorite live event enter promo code kickoff at checkout to receive a
discount of up to $100 again I don't know why you wouldn't take advantage of this if you want to your favorite live event. Enter promo code KICKOFF at checkout to receive a discount of up to $100.
Again, I don't know why you wouldn't take advantage of this if you want to go to an Iowa Hawkeye football game.
Check it out on Vivid Seeds.
Get to the game right now.
All right, man, we are back with segment number three,
our final segment of the day.
We're going to quickly run through our game balls for the day.
I want to give out three.
Zach, I'm not sure how many you want to give out,
but maybe I'll kick it off and then I'll just kind of let you go.
And then we'll see how many we end up with.
Yeah. Hell yeah, man. Well, I think the first one,
and you probably are going to agree with this.
Keith Duncan deserves fricking MVP for it last, you know,
yet last night's game four for four 12 points on the day.
The weather conditions is what really got me.
The fact that he had to go out in the field, fell on his butt.
When he was kind of warming up had to kind of re kind of figure out what he's going to do and how he's going to actually kick the ball putting more pressure on his plant foot
that way he wasn't going to slip and fall when he actually kicked the ball those weather conditions
were nasty he did a fantastic job especially after a two-year hiatus um you know we have a we have a
kicker man and i i would i would put him up there against anyone in the country. Yeah, I mean, I agree. Obviously, my game boss is going to keep Duncan as well.
Like I said before, I was special teams haven't been great. I mean, they've been decent over the
years, but having a kicker like Keith Duncan, who you can rely on so far, it's just incredible to
have, especially in such a league where kickers are – a good kicker in college football is really hard to come by.
Like I said earlier, if you watch college football this weekend,
a lot of teams had outcomes of the games change,
the momentum shift changed all by missing field goals.
And I'm not even talking about like 50-yarders.
I'm talking about like 30-yarders.
If you saw the Michigan State game, I'm sorry, but that was hilarious.
The kicker literally made the first one.
They called the timeout or something happened. He had a re-kick and then he literally missed it
again. It was horrendous. It wasn't even that far of a kick, but just having, like I said,
in the beginning of the year to win games, you need to win two out of the three phases of the
game, special teams, defense, offense. And the fact that our special teams is this solid, we just need
to win on the offensive side of the ball, the defensive side of the ball, and we will win these games, I promise you.
So, like I said, I agree with Andrew.
Keith Duncan, player of the game, he has a ton of points this year,
and I'm so happy that we have a big kicker in college football.
Yeah, man, it is nice.
It's something that we're going to need,
especially because, like you said, Iowa plays a lot of close games.
You need to have someone who's clutch like that.
My other game ball is going to go to Nate Stanley. I think it might be kind of a weird pick, but I really felt
like he put the team on his back and was going to do whatever it took to win the game and him
running the ball. It looks so freaking awkward, but he did what he had to do to get that first
down. You knew he wasn't going to go down. I just loved his grit in that performance. I know he
didn't throw a first single touchdown, but I just, I really felt like performance. I know he didn't throw a first-ingle touchdown, but I really felt like if Nate Stanley was a difference maker
on the offensive side of the ball, that is my second game ball.
I have one more to give away, but Zach, what is your second game ball?
So I'm going to kind of pivot.
I don't know if we have the same one, but I'm just going to go with DJ Johnson.
Ooh, I like it.
Hot take.
I wasn't going to pick DJ Johnson, but it was one of the guys I considered, man.
Yep.
So, you know what, guys?
I know that – so I know that guy kind of got torn up a little bit,
and Milton looked like he was Antonio Brown out there, and it wasn't great.
But, I mean, DJ Johnson stepped in as a DB slash cash, that weird prototype role.
He had nine tackles, a sack, two two pass breakups and a tackle for a loss
and it's just like coming in and being able to do that ojo mudia wasn't doing that hankins wasn't
doing that so to come in and be able to do that have that much of an impact um i know that he
wasn't perfect you know guiding the receiver i know his coverage wasn't you know like lactite but
i mean i think it, he made a mistake.
His one big mistake was at the end of the game with the pass interference.
But, listen, he's really aggressive.
He's a ball hawk.
He has really good instincts.
And guess what?
It didn't end up biting us in the butt.
It was offsetting penalties.
So, I'm going to go ahead and give it to DJ Johnson,
coming into a big primetime game, college game day,
never really getting a whole lot of playing time
and filling up the stat sheet and helping Iowa win.
I love Matt. Well, mine is going to be a little bit off the wall here.
I'm going to give it to Devonta young.
And for those of you who probably didn't realize he's the one who recovered
that fumble from that punt return snafu where the, you know,
Iowa state guy ran the other Iowa state guy,
but I'm giving it to Devonta young.
And this I would say is more of a career thing.
This guy's story is fantastic. You know, I can't remember we came in on the offensive defense but either way he switched
from I think you I think he was a receiver okay so he came as a receiver switched over to the
secondary didn't get playing time there he is a senior now playing on special teams he didn't
transfer he didn't leave the program he stuck with it and he came up with an incredible fumble
recovery and I'll be honest that's not as easy as it looks. That ball came down.
He grabbed it.
Already had it in possession as he was sliding on the ground.
That's actually a pretty difficult play.
But what I was actually more impressed with,
I think I read this from somewhere on Twitter as well,
which kind of sparked that thought in my mind,
is the fact that the punt returner for Iowa State called for a fair catch.
Devontae Young still ran balls out for that play you know, for that, you know, play.
And then just in case something happened and something did happen, he was right there
at the right moment, making the right play. I got to give it to Devontae Young, man. I thought that
was just, it just kind of speaks volumes for what kind of a man and a player he is. I think that's
kind of just a, you know, nice freaking work. Thank you for sticking with it kind of game ball.
Yeah. You know what? That was – you dug deep.
That was kind of a deep cut for me.
I really appreciate that.
You know what?
I do give him props.
I do agree with you.
I think that that is an awesome story.
Anytime you get a guy who comes in the program and he works their butt off
day in and day out.
He's with the program.
He's lifting.
He's doing two-a-days.
He's doing conditioning.
And to be able to do that, stick it out, be on special teams teams as a senior not transfer out and kind of bail on everyone just to get more
playing time and I do agree I think that's like a really like a heart good heartwarming story and
just shows that you know obviously you could get more playing time somewhere else but just the love
and the family that Iowa is and just the environment it just shows that it's one of a kind um i guess my uh third game ball
is going to be um i mean we there's not a whole i think you had a really good one it just kind
of sucks i think you win this one but i'm gonna agree with nate i'm gonna agree with nate stanley
i mean he had a really good game dude like it's it's weird because you look at the stats you're
like oh 200 yards and how many 11 yards, 212 all-purpose yards.
But if you watch the game, the plays he made and using his feet
and the first downs he got and everything,
it's just – it changed the momentum of the game.
We would not be in position to get those field goals without Nate Stanley.
So, you know, Keith Duncan came through.
He got one of my game balls.
I'm giving Nate Stanley a game ball for this,
basically being a human assist, being able to drive us down the field
and get us in the field goal range in general.
So I think he looked good.
I mean, he still completed over 20 passes.
And, I mean, I know he's not Trevor Lawrence or 2-1,
things like that, like stat-wise.
But when you watch these games and you're a true football fan
and you see a flow of the game, he did a lot of things that, you know,
just because he wasn't blowing up the stat sheet,
he really did help us win the game.
And I really do hope the fans listening out there, don't throw him to the side.
Don't kind of give up on Nate Stanley because it was a weird game.
It was terrible weather.
But I am very confident in him being our leader.
I don't know about you, Andrew.
On a side note, do you kind of see him kind of of developing are you a little more confident with him at quarterback this year
yeah man i've always been kind of tough on a stanley but i after yesterday's game and even
the first two games of season i mean these are not this is not a streak that we typically see
from a stanley even kirk said at the end of the game yesterday that he's glad he's our quarterback
i completely agree i feel like we have a chance to do some big things
with nate stanley at the helm um and hopefully we can get maybe ricky sandsy back on and we can
talk a little bit about um being a quarterback in your senior year i think that'd be a really
cool conversation but i completely agree i nate stanley sold me yesterday man that what he did
like just the grit he showed just i'm sold man he's my quarterback but um i think i think that's
a good way to end the show man i thought that was that was pretty awesome i'm glad i i won that one i wasn't trying to beat you but i thought
it was a pretty good that was that was good that was sneaky that was sneaky i think you i think you
had the the tug on the heartstrings of uh a lot of the listeners out there so i'll give you props
hell yeah man well hey um that was a great episode monday morning episode of the lockdown hawkeyes
podcast coming off a fantastic weekend win.
It is a Hawkeye State officially now and forever.
And we are not actually – we don't have a game this week.
So we're going to be kind of switching it up a little bit.
We're going to be covering the Iowa State game probably over the next day or two
and then switching into some other topics as well.
And then we'll start our Middle Tennessee State coverage the following week.
But we will be here Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday,
this week and next week, even if there's not a football game.
We'll have some great stuff to give you on the Locked on Hawkeyes podcast.
Stay tuned for some of our giveaway stuff.
Zach, were you going to say something there?
Yeah, I was going to say, and guys too, since this week's kind of a weird week,
it's kind of a quiet week.
Normally they have a lot of games.
And then next week's Middle Tennessee.
If you guys want any things to talk about, if you have any segment ideas, if there's anything that you want to hear if we're not touching on everything um and you want to hear about different
things or different topics feel free to reach out let us know um any comments any feedback you guys
give us will make the podcast better i promise it doesn't matter what it is if you think it's
stupid if you think it's whatever just give it to us and we will consider it and if it's a good
idea we'll talk about it because, like we said,
these next two weeks are going to be kind of slow with kind of these big games,
but they will be ramping up.
But I think me and Andrew are going to work together,
maybe put in some more fun segments and things like that,
maybe a little off-the-cuff things.
But we will be dissecting Iowa State.
But, like I said, if you have any ideas, just let us know
because we always want to hear your guys' ideas.
Definitely, man. And if you did like what you heard today,
make sure to like, review, and subscribe so you can download every single episode going forward.
Again, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Hope you all had a fantastic weekend, Hawkeye Nation. Screw Iowa State and go Hawks. This is the Hawkeye State five in a row. go Hawks.
