Locked On Hawkeyes - Daily Podcast On Iowa Hawkeyes Football & Basketball - TRUST THE COACH? Iowa Hawkeyes PATIENTLY Target Andrew McKeever in Transfer Portal Amid Fan Anxiety

Episode Date: April 14, 2026

Iowa Hawkeyes face a tense transfer portal season as fans wait for a key commitment, but patience could soon pay off. Will Ben McCollum’s selective approach land the right big man and lead guard to ...reshape the roster for a Big Ten push? The Hawkeyes are targeting 7-foot-3 Andrew McKeever from St. Mary's and Belmont’s Drew Skarnowski, aiming to address their rim protection and rebounding needs after last season’s loss to Illinois. Point guard options like Ace Glass (Washington State) and Tylen Riley (Tulsa) emerge, but NIL dynamics and competition from heavyweights like UConn and Michigan add intrigue to Iowa’s recruiting race. David Eickholt from 247 Sports joins to assess portal strategies for both Iowa’s men’s and women’s basketball squads, breaks down Dani Carnegie’s impact transfer for the Hawkeye women, and weighs in on spring football buzz—highlighting wide receiver Tony Diaz’s injury update. Can Iowa maximize portal opportunities and build rosters built to contend? Starting point is 00:00:00 We're a week into the transfer portal season, the Iowa Hawkeye men are still without a commitment. Why now is not the time for Hawkeye fans to be freaking out. You are Locked on Hawkeyes, your daily podcast on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. Hey, welcome in. I'm Trent Condon, and this is the Lockdown Hawkeyes podcast, your daily Iowa Hawkeye podcast. A busy show is the Transfer Portal continue.
Starting point is 00:00:34 to heat up. We're going to talk about the Iowa wrestling team picking up a big commitment for the next two seasons, potentially at 133 pounds and some ammunition in the lineup for next season and also a couple other big names that are out there. We'll be joined also by David Eichold from hawkye insider.com. David will join us with the latest in the transfer portal, what he's hearing both for the Iowa Hawkeye men and the women. And we'll talk some spring football with David as well. But we begin today with the news that we're all waiting for. are the Iowa men going to land somebody out of the transfer portal? As we now are a week in after the portal opened up right after the national championship game. After that one went final and we flipped the calendar over to a week ago Tuesday, here we are still in a holding pattern. Now the good news is Iowa has had prospects on campus already, including one that is currently there in finishing up his visit at the big man, 7 foot three center from St. Mary's Andrew McKeever,
Starting point is 00:01:31 who is definitely at the top of the wish list for the Hawks. guys. Now, this sounds like certainly one that Iowa is fully invested in, that they're looking to, if they're looking for that rim protecting center, this is the guy that is the most realistic option and at the top of their list. And the one thing that I really like when you go through and you look at McKeever is you look at the counting stats from a year ago, eight points, nine rebounds. I know it doesn't get you overly excited, but you look at his skill set and then you imagine kind of what that does and how that translates coming from the West Coast Conference, making his way into the Big Ten and the way that he fits.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Shot block numbers are not incredible at 7 foot three, but they're good. Most importantly, though, you look at some of the other numbers that are out there. You just talk about to some scouts that I had a conversation earlier on Monday about him, but the one thing that says doesn't show up always in the stat sheet. It's just the amount of shots that he also alters with that big frame that he has. He has one of the best offensive rebounding rates in the country, a good defensive rebound. And again, getting back to what we talked about so much,
Starting point is 00:02:36 including the finale for the Hawkeyes last season in that loss in the elite eight to Illinois. It was just the sheer size of the Illini that in the end was too much in the final eight minutes of that game as they pulled away and punched their ticket into the final four after Iowa had the big lead early on, had the lead at halftime, had a lead with eight minutes to play. But the size ultimately was too much. McKeever, though, another thing that really jumps out for a guy of his size, His assist rate, very good, a guy that can, look, he's not going to be crossing people over. That's not the handles that we're talking about.
Starting point is 00:03:08 But for a big guy, sees the floor well, handles it well. And you think about those high-end screens that they do, the things that they do up top that we saw so much this season, Man Yao doing the handoffs, the dribble handoffs, and then the screens that they pulled along with it, I think he is a guy that watching his skill set, it's going to fit in. It is hard to decipher exactly what a lot of these players are. And when you go through and you find a two, three, four minute clip of them, it's highlights. That's what you're going to get. You're not going to get the low lights that also go into it.
Starting point is 00:03:39 But did watch him a couple of times this season. Watch St. Mary's one of their late night games towards the end of the regular season against Gonzaga. I saw them again in the WCC tournament. And of course, in the NCAA tournament where they were knocked off late. Still, a guy that I think fits the system more importantly of what they're looking for. And I get it. Look, us as fans, we want to see everything. happened quickly and in this portal environment. But one thing that I was reading a couple of different
Starting point is 00:04:05 places earlier here this evening on Monday night is they mentioned that some national guys, that this process is going a little bit slower. Yes, I know. You look at the cross state rival and you see what Iowa State has done already. They bring five guys in. They get five commitments. They're done. They are finished up for the portal season. They have things wrapped up. And you say, why can't that be Iowa? I was being very selective of what they are. And I think we also, and this is not fun for what I do on the radio, what I do here on a daily podcast with you guys saying, well, just trust the coaches.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Because look, if you've been listening me for any amount of time, that is normally not just the easy fallback because it's too simple, right? I like to think about it a little bit and allow all of us to think a little bit deeper than how the coaches got it right, they got it figured out and they'll be fine. But after what we saw in year number one for Ben McCullum, what we've seen out of him throughout his career as a head coach. It is a little bit where you have to take that leap of faith. You just have to believe in the coach at this point in time that he has things figured out.
Starting point is 00:05:06 And we'll see what they're going to do at the lead guard position. Look, if McKeever makes his commitment here in the next day or two, you're feeling good about the big. Another question is, are they still looking for another big to go along with it? Is that a direction that they're looking to go and spend the funds that they have in the NIL environment of going out there and going after two big guys. Could you have Drew Skarnowski, big guy from Belmont, 6'9, we talked about him a little bit yesterday, a guy with a different kind of skill set,
Starting point is 00:05:34 plays bigger than that 6 foot 9 range, a frame that he has as a wingspan, a 7-3, would they be willing to play both of those guys together or look to bring both of those guys in together? And then if they do get the commitment of one or both of those guys, of course, then the attention turns to the back court. and specifically trying to find that lead guard, the point guard to come in, play together with Kale Combs in the back court.
Starting point is 00:05:59 You got other options, the emergence of Tate Sage this year, who can play the two, play the three. He's got the skill set to do that, obviously, as we saw throughout the course of this season. We most definitely are talking about Ace Glass from Washington State. That's a big one. Tyler Riley from Tulsa, he showed up, but, boy, his offer list already is some big-time programs, and I don't know if I was going to be able to get involved on the. that front. Regardless, though, it's boring. It's not what I like to do, but ultimately,
Starting point is 00:06:28 I just believe in Ben McCollum of what he's doing. And something else stuck in my mind. We've talked about this a couple of times in the past and every dayers. I know you've heard me bring this up before, but I do find it really interesting is going all the way back to some recruiting times. And there was a question that was asked to him, one of the press conferences during the course of this season, during the regular season, recruiting came up in some instance. And one thing that he talked about. And we've heard also other prospects and other guys that have played at Ben McCollum, played for Ben McCollum back in Northwest Missouri State,
Starting point is 00:07:00 is he asked guys not to be out there talking about their offers, not going on social media, blessed to have an offer from Northwest Missouri State, now blessed to have an offer from Iowa. I have a feeling there's a lot more going on behind the scenes, a lot more that is happening back in the background that we just don't know about because that's the way that he likes to operate. And because of that, we're not getting the same, probably information that is out there, some other programs that are a little bit looser with the information,
Starting point is 00:07:32 why to get those positive vibes out there. Ben McCollum in the recruiting world feels like he's a guy that likes to fly under the radar. He's going to evaluate guys in his own realm. He doesn't care what the recruiting services think. He doesn't care what other coaches are thinking at this time. He anticipates and trusts his own assistant. coaches and what they're doing and he trusts obviously his own evaluation of what he has. So just something to also keep in the back of the mind as you're seeing all these offers and
Starting point is 00:08:00 everything going out, Ben McCollum & Company feels like they're playing things much more closer to the best. What other guy I want to talk about here? So Cyan Evans is a guy from North Carolina, another one that we just kind of mentioned in passing. He played this last season at North Carolina, played a lot of point guard and maybe not the best fit for him. guards overall.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Hubert Davis has not done a great job historically, maybe outside of RJ Davis at the back court during his career at North Carolina. And after coming from Colorado State a year ago, his numbers very much dropped. He shot nearly 45% from three at Colorado State. His last season there went to North Carolina and it just didn't work this year. Average four points, two and a half assists per game and definitely saw his shooting percentages go down this season. Six foot two, again, not a typical point guard, a guy that can play
Starting point is 00:08:48 there, but did he kind of imagine him and Kale Combs playing together, how that would fit very well? Very much intriguing guy has Kansas City ties, and obviously the ties going back to Northwest Missouri State for Ben McCollum. Definitely a guy that could make a little bit more sense. A's class, I think, is at the top of the wish list currently for Iowa. A lot of people that believe Kay and Evans of North Carolina, maybe Minnesota, is a place that could be leading for him at this moment. A guy that has ties to Nico Medved, going back to the Colorado State Days, a couple of years. years ago. So a lot of connecting dots here, but certainly a name at minimum. I think we need to have on our radar for Iowa and one to bring up once again here on the show. Let's get David Eicholt in here.
Starting point is 00:09:29 He's going to break down the portal. Both the men and the women get some perspective from here. A lot of names to throw about, a lot of ideas coming in from David Eicholt. We'll talk with him, including what I talked about a little bit earlier. Does Iowa, are they willing to go out there? Is it just one big guy that they're after in the portal? Or could it be two? We'll post that to David Eicholt. Plus, we'll talk a little bit of spring football as well as we continue. Stay right there. This is Locked on Hawkeyes. What if sports were traded like markets?

He covers Iowa for 24-7 sports. Hockey Insider.com. He's with Miller and Cond. Hello, David Eicholt. How are you? Doing good, guys. I told Trent, I'm out of coffee,
Starting point is 00:11:44 so it's a little bit of an unfortunate development. But we'll continue to push through and we'll see what's to come over the next. Two weeks, because let's face it, there's nothing's slowing down by any means. Love it. If you're even ahead, you're behind, honestly. Yeah, love it, love it. Maybe not Iowa State men because they feel theirs.
Starting point is 00:12:03 They're done. They're very quickly, but they might, they're certainly not the norm. Anyways, let's get into Iowa. We'll start with the men since that's where we're at. Fulgaris, I think everybody, Trent said the same thing. You said it last time he joined us. It seemed like it's just a matter of time before he made his plans known. he has. Do you have any idea what kind of reception he's getting? How many schools are at least
Starting point is 00:12:27 kicking the tires that do want to get in touch with him that do want to, you know, get him for a visit? How's Fulgaris's business? Any idea? Yeah, I mean, it's big time. I mean, he's a pure stretch four, in my opinion. He wants to play the four. I don't think he's a five. I think he wants to play. And probably a little bit more of an up-tempo system. him, I would imagine he's going to land in the Big East when it's all done because you think about this, how many prominent schools in the Big East that have the broadcasting rights deal, all that money goes toward men's basketball, right? So I think maybe, you know, maybe a Villanova would make sense for him.
Starting point is 00:13:05 You know, again, I think of an uptempo system. It's kind of funny. I don't know if I told you guys this, but I've been talking behind the scenes with some people, Alvaro Fulgaris would have been awesome in Fran McCaffrey's system. What do you have not? Just with his shooting ability with how up-tempo he likes to play
Starting point is 00:13:22 with the freedom he would gain offensively. If he gets in that sort of system, I'm not going to be surprised if he really plays well next season. But yeah, I mean, you guys have seen the numbers float around when it comes to some of these high-end prospects. I would imagine Fulgaris is going to get two and a half, three million dollars
Starting point is 00:13:40 when it's all said and done. It's a lot of money. And Iowa allocating their sources, resources in other places, including for a big man, a rim protector. A couple of the names that have been bandied about a bunch, Inter McKeever, 7, 3, 8 points, 9 rebounds a year ago. Pretty good shot, Blacker, not a leap, but solid on that end, but certainly has the size to go along with it.
Starting point is 00:14:00 And you couple it with Sharnowski out of Belmont, different type of player, 6 foot 9, but does have long arms. So tell us about those two bigs and would they be willing to take both of those guys if the price is right. Yeah, I think that's kind of the interesting question at this point, right? I mean, I've tried to gain sources. You didn't ask them about this. McGeever is also one of those things where, like, you don't want to be brisked,
Starting point is 00:14:23 I should say, by the shot blocking numbers, guys. It's all about altering shot, right, and making, like, difficult, making him try to try a floater over a 7-3 guy. But the flip side of it, too, as you mentioned, the Belmont guy, yeah, he's only 6'9 and some people are thinking that might not solve the size issue. Well, when you have 7 foot three wing spam, that tends to overlap it, especially when you have the athleticism that he has.
Starting point is 00:14:47 So McGeever is on campus currently right now. I do know the Belmont guy was on campus this past weekend. But I'd also say this. I think they'd be foolish not to take them. But based on who McKeever's kind of kicked the tires with, I don't know if you're going to be able to afford the two of them because Yukon's kicked the tires with McKeever. Michigan at one point was kicking the tires with McGeever.
Starting point is 00:15:09 And you know, those are some very heavy, heavy hitters. So again, I'm not saying it's impossible that Iowa lands both, but you think about the kind of money that those sort of guys would draw in. If you get both of them, how much does that leave you left in the pot for a point guard, which obviously Iowa still needs. Yeah, no doubt. How many years McKeever got left? McKiever has two years of eligibility left.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Okay. And when ultimately... And it's also worth this. The numbers he had were only in 23 minutes a game last season. Okay. And his rebounding rate was among the... the bestness conference and the country. So maybe a little bit more strength and conditioning.
Starting point is 00:15:43 You can only do so much when you're 7-3 and 285 pounds. But I would envision he would get a little bit more time than he had last year. And those numbers obviously would go up a little bit. And where are they looking as far as a point guard? Who are they looking at? Yeah, I mean, I still think the number one prospect is Ace Glass, the Washington State transfer. I think he makes a lot of sense.
Starting point is 00:16:04 In my opinion, with this group, I think he's a good passer. I think he's a smart shot taker. he's a big time bucket getter. And another name that's kind of emerged here over the last week, I think Minnesota's probably the favorite because there's a lot of hometown ties, is Keon Evans, the North Carolina Guard who transferred from Colorado State this past off season. Iowa was in the running for him last year.
Starting point is 00:16:25 But, you know, when North Carolina has the money that they have, they can throw things around. And, you know, who knows, maybe Michael Jordan ended up calling him. It's pretty hard to tell Michael Jordan no, right? But he did play for Nico Medved at Colorado. state, but I do know that Iowa is tracking him. Evans has said he wants to get on campus before he makes the decision, but how many times have we seen the sort of thing play out? Maybe not Iowa State, because Iowa State got everybody all received, which is far from the norm. That's for sure.
Starting point is 00:16:53 I mentioned that earlier. It is far from the norm. But these things change so ridiculously fast in the NCAA transfer portal. Just think about this. The Iowa women are supposed to get Ellie Brugamon on campus this past weekend, and she commits to Oklahoma State and canceled the Iowa-Nabraska visits. It's just it's the way of the land until things get trained out. You mentioned the back court, Ace Glass, the third, great name, and a guy that certainly goes,
Starting point is 00:17:18 you know, what thing I found interesting, and they're just metrics. Look, I don't know these guys well. I watched a new name that popped up out of Tulsa, Thailand Riley. You watched him in the NIT. He was tremendous. He was the only guy, though, of the guards that they were looking at, at least reportedly looking at that would be considered a good defender.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Most of these guys, Finley Bisjack, that was one of the first names we heard, kind of a negative defender. Same thing with glass. A few of the other guys that have popped up here. It feels like prototype-wise and what we kind of anticipate out of McCollum, they don't exactly fit with, I thought, what he would be looking for. Any insight into that and those defensive metrics sometimes don't paint the whole picture, too. Yeah, I only can paint the picture. And McCollum's been adamant about it's all about the type of system that those guys play in. And he's also just looking for certain traits and qualities that he can extract out of the players
Starting point is 00:18:05 to make them perform the best. But the other side of it, too, is, If you think about how much length Iowa could potentially have on the floor next season, I mean, again, Trey Thompson's going to be here. Ethan Harris is going to be here. If they get McKeever, he starts at center, you have a seven foot three. That eases up to paint a lot. You get those six foot seven to six point eight to six foot nine hybrids. If you have three or four of them on the court, you probably don't need the most elite point guard defender.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Just because you've got so much to be able to make up for it, as long as the defender has a high basketball IQ and doesn't miss his rotations. I think you could get away with it. Another name I do think we should mention because there is a visit schedule for this upcoming weekend. Illinois State Guard, Tyreek Coleman. His numbers will not blow you away just based on what he showed last year, you know, over 10 points in a game, two assists, the steal. But he shot 50% from the field, 42% from three point range. And again, McCollum likes those sort of guys that if he can extract some of those qualities out of them,
Starting point is 00:19:04 and it makes sense with the chemistry and the hybrids of his teams, he's going to take it. And McCollum also, I think he's pretty confident in his point guard developing ability. So he might be willing to take a little bit of flyer or a guy that he believes in over, let's say, the five-star point guard. To the women, Carnegie is Georgia Tech.
Starting point is 00:19:24 She was somewhere before that, right? Georgia Tech, Georgia. Georgia, then Georgia this past season. Right. She moves around. Now she's decided to call Iowa City home for this next year, reuniting with the former teammate of hers. Pretty good get by all accounts?
Starting point is 00:19:40 Massive. I mean, this is an all-SCC first team guard this past season. And I think I can't tell you how many times I've been on this show with you guys. And what have I said? Three-point shooting and they have a lack of shot creators. ISO scores. Carnegie solves that. She's able to get to the rim as a wide variety of different ways to put the ball in the bucket. Great mid-range pull-up, five rebounds a game, three assists.
Starting point is 00:20:02 A lot of interesting connections here, though. You mentioned it. She reunites with Chit-chat, right? They played together at Georgia Tech, but also Lassandra Barrett. Remember, Lassandra Barrett was Georgia Tech's assistant during their time there. That was a big reason why Iowa ended up getting chit-chat. And also, Carney, I get the moving thing, but you think about this, the Georgia Tech coach got fired this past season.
Starting point is 00:20:23 They go to Georgia, you know, Abramson, I believe, steps down. So she's going on her third program in three years, but she really hasn't had a staying power in continuity with the coaching staff as well. So I don't necessarily want to say that's a rest of the rest. flag by any means, but I'd also point to this, give Lassandra Barra a lot of credit here, because we know how important of a hire she was just from a recruiting connection, you know, being from down south, you know, coming to the Iowa city. I think a big thing is the reception that Barrett got in the atmosphere that Iowa, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:56 continue to show her and support her. And I think Barrett coming to Iowa, you know, as a black woman in prominently white territory, it's been a very big deal for how welcome she is. And that's something that she told Carnegie is like, look, chitchat writes to the same thing about how welcoming the community Iowa City is. And it does take a lot to kind of get some of those, you know, down south players or maybe those players from the coast, those elite sort of prospects. So I think Barrett knocked it out of the park with this one.
Starting point is 00:21:22 And she's a big reason why Carnegie is going to be in Iowa City this upcoming year. Need to build depth. You know, David, how tough is that going to either players from the mid-major saying, You're probably not going to be a starter here. We want to bring you in. You're going to be a bench piece. And then even further than that, you know, filling in those 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th positions on the roster, where you're probably not going to play at all.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Is that in a way maybe even more difficult than getting a star like Danny Carnegie? I think it's just as it's not more difficult. I think it's a really good point because I can give you a name on campus right now. That would be highly sought after. And that's Reagan McCowan, the Western Illinois guard, right? I mean, she had 17 points of games, six rebounds this past year. She was her conference as freshman of the year two years ago. Well, it's the fourth leading sophomore score in the country last season.
Starting point is 00:22:11 This is a big time player, but you also look at her coming to Iowa City if she does end up committing. You can't promise her a starting spot, guys, because you're not taking out Chit Chat. You're not taking out Taylor Stremlow. You're not taking out Danny Carnegie, the all-SCC performer, right? You're not putting Bullets go on the bench. I would think because of what she's shown this past weekend, too. it's a very tough thing but i think that's what it comes down to fit and about culture look at molly davis she's an all-conference performer uh central michigan before coming to iowa for her final
Starting point is 00:22:41 years and obviously we we saw how great of a match that was so if they can get mccallin that's an absolutely massive sixth player maybe seventh player but i got to tell you man i'm not gonna be surprised if iowa rolls in with 11 maybe 12 maybe 11 players this upcoming year uh and they're just going to kind of rely on the 2027 class to fill everything out. Because the other interesting part of this is also, guys, Iowa has no seniors on the roster next season at this point. They're all juniors are lower. Wow.
Starting point is 00:23:11 So, I mean, if you're stock in the house, it's a little bit difficult when nobody's going to end up leaving outside obviously the transfer portal. And even a one-year stop gap, well, I'm going to go here and there's going to be a bunch of younger players. Yeah. This is proving to be maybe a little bit more difficult than we thought for Jan to fill out the roster. Carnegie's a great stop, but going to be interesting.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Little football for you, David Eichol, as we get ready for the open practice, the final look at them. You had a chance to see them last week. But the 25th is coming up very quickly. And Tony Diaz, he has been the buzz guy, certainly of the spring. Now, there's a rumblings that he got dinged up in practice, anything that you can report? I mean, it's just more so behind the scene stuff. I know I'm not the only person who said, yeah, I mean, it sounds like Diaz is going to be out for the remainder of spring. this is not something that's going to carry over into summer workouts.
Starting point is 00:23:59 A little bit disappointing, just considering how much we've heard from it. I mean, if you guys show started, I think, but they released a mic up with Camari Molton about an hour ago. There's a highlight big Tony Diaz touchdown in that, right? Like, that's what we kind of wanted to see. But by all accounts, he'd rather him be shaking up now than the fall. I think he's proven already that he can be wide receiver one or wide receiver two. He's already turned some heads. And like you said, Kurt Farrantz is gushing about our.
Starting point is 00:24:26 wide receiver, you know it's pretty real. So I would tell Iowa fans, just relax. He proved what you need to prove. Get them healthy. Wrap them in bubble wrap and get going in summer workouts. So what do you get this week as far as availability with the practice one? A week from Saturday, right? Yes, that's correct.
Starting point is 00:24:43 So I believe we're going to be able to talk to the quarterbacks and running backs on Thursday. So we'll get a chance here from Hank Brown, Jeremy Hecklinsky, which will be really interesting to see how they feel the battles going. Obviously, we'll get a chance with me with Kamari Molin. who's always a great interview. And then next week, we will actually be able to meet with the coordinators as well. So that will be really interesting. Talk to the new special teams coordinator, Chris Pelosi,
Starting point is 00:25:08 and obviously Tim Wester and Phil Parker. I have not confirmed this, but it does sound like we will be getting new running back coach, J. Norvell, before spring ball ends. I'm not going to be surprised if that's on Thursday. And it sounds like everything's going well with him and his ability to mesh with this running back group as well. So it'll be interesting to hear about his homecoming. Good stuff. David Eichold, 24-7 sports, hawkeye insider.com. Hotkey insider.com.
Starting point is 00:25:33 David, as always, thanks for coming on, man. Appreciate the intel. Thank you. Thanks, guys. Have good week. Appreciate you. You do the same. Good time.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Talk to you. Get some coffee. David Eichol, talkai insider. Thank you, David Eichold for his time. Iowa wrestling has laid their first commitment from the transfer portal. We'll talk about that next. Stay right there. This is Locked on Hawkeyes.
Starting point is 00:25:59 The NBA playoffs are here where every possession matters. Every matchup is magnified and every game can swing a series. Right now, FanDual is giving new customers a great way to get in on the action. You can bet just $5 and get $250 in bonus bets if your first bet wins. The app makes it easy to follow the action with player stats, trends, matchups all in one place. And during the playoffs, that extra insight really matters when you're looking at stars, role players, and key moments.
Starting point is 00:26:26 It just makes the entire playoff experience more engaging from straight to start to finish. I'm taking a look right now at my Timberwolves. Can they pull off the upset against the nuggets? Well, back-to-back Western Conference Finals, the path is going to be difficult this year. But I'm taking it all. And of course, lots of player props on Anthony Edwards in this playoffs for my Timberwolves. You can go ahead right now to Fandual.com to get started. That's Fandual.com.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Fandual, play your game. back with you one final time on the Lockdown Hawkeyes podcast. Thanks for being with us and making Lockdown Hawkeyes your first listen every day. We are your daily Iowa Hawkeye podcast. Well, we get into the wrestling side of things. And as we know, Iowa's going to be very active in the portal. A lot of holes to fill in the lineup going into next season. And though chasing down Penn State feels like an impossibility at this point in time.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Oklahoma State with all the young talent that they have. Still an opportunity for Iowa to build a program back up, give yourself a shot. And Iowa certainly has the funds to go out there in the portal and get some of the top guys. And they got one of them here today with the commitment of Ryan Crookham from Lehigh. Now you go back a couple of years ago to 2024. He finished third in the country that season. Great record. But injuries have derailed his last couple of seasons.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Back-to-back seasons that ended with knee injuries. Definitely a guy that wrestles a little funky. And because of that gets himself in some dangerous situations. And with it, that's a lot of times where he's. CD injuries and that is the knock right now. If healthy, this is an All-American. If healthy at 133 pounds, this is a plug-and-play guy that you're going to be excited about. It's going to be up there on the podium. Maybe he could be wrestling on Saturday night for a championship. That's the kind of upside he has. It's about health. Another name also in the portal sounds like it's down to two.
Starting point is 00:28:20 This is more of a long-range play for this one. Daniel Zepeda from NC State does have four years of eligibility still remaining for him. That's a possibility. Sounds like. It's down to Iowa and Michigan, according to some ports that are out there right now for his services. I was going to be active. There's still the lingering question. What's going to happen? Is there going to be a reunion of Ferraris in Iowa City? That is a big storyline as well, but we have it covered here for you daily on Locked on Hawkeyes.
Starting point is 00:28:47 But big news is Iowa gets a good one out of the portal as they get the commitment of Ryan Crookham from Lehigh. That'll do it for today. Back with you tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have some good news on the recruiting front. And of course, we got you covered. if there's a commitment, we'll be right there for you.
