We will talk Monster. We will talk religious discrimination. We will talk how Texas Tech wants to leave their fans. We want to leave the Big 12 now. They're getting nothing out of this.

But I would love to start with the moment of Big 12 media days for the fellows who were in the room. When the guy stood up and mumbled what question that was and then Brett Yormark hit him with a stand up, say it again. Take me into the room during that moment. I was about three seats, three rows behind him. I'm one of the reaction face. I'm not a hands on my head reaction face. I regret that. I legitimately thought I was like, did he?

Did he ask that? I thought I had to have heard it wrong. And when he walked over and asked him to repeat himself, he stood up like he really got Brett. And he was like, misquote of me and walked away. I was like, oh,

now we just all look bad. Like, like, it was everyone started like, what just happened? Mind you, this is a question about Texas Tech after your mark opened by saying

he was not going to address these questions about Texas Tech and the sport. Like, he'd already. put that to bed and was still asked about this, but this guy, this feels, anyway, I'll, I'll let Jake talk about the other side of it because it felt like this guy's like, hey, there's no such thing as bad press for me. Yeah. The press who's now got my name everywhere. Well, I was on the opposite side of the stage from where it happened, but I'm standing there.

Alston, but your mark says stand up and ask your question. And he makes like a B line across that stage. Like, what is he going to do here? Are we seeing like the New York, New Jersey, Brett Yormark like going to come out and really like get after this guy. Then you misquoted me. I'm like, okay, in some ways, I thought that he actually backed himself down from actually saying, well, I think he wanted to say to that guy. But, man, what a moment that was.

Because, yeah, he laid the ground where I don't ask the question. I think he's name is what the guy's name is asked the question. He was, and he gets up. And it was, yeah, I was like, I don't know what's going to go down here. But I feel like I should be pulling out my phone to film a viral moment. If you've been under a rock, I do have the clip here for more context. This is as awkward as we've been describing it. Sean Dillon, Rock and pregame.

Commission, Texas Tech got fined over tortillas, and tortillas were banned out right. OSU paddles, broken always make a rule, has a tradition of exemption. Swordsby never played a snap. Big 12 sued them anyway, while Cincinnati hasn't been yet touched. You're selling greater than 12. Why should Texans believe in? Can you see, let me come closer to you. Stand up.

Ask that question again, and I'm going to give you the answer I want to give you, so go ahead. Texas Tech got fine for tortillas, and tortillas were banned outright. OSU has had paddles that were given a noise maker exemption back in 2012. SORSB never played a snap for the red radiators, and yet there is a lawsuit. Cincinnati has yet to be touched. you're selling greater than 12. Why should Texas tech fans believe them? No, I didn't say greater than 12.

You misquoted me. I said, we're going forward is 16 strong, and that's my answer to your question. But thank you for that question. Appreciate it. He did appreciate the question, to be fair. He did. Also, Sean Dillon's first time saying tortillas is a tough watch.

I'll give you the answer I want to give you. BAM. What do you mean? I was waiting on like to John Cena music to come out of the class to break and Brett Yormard go top rope off the stage on that dude. That would have been amazing. But I will say, this is why sometimes it's okay to be a strong proponent of bringing back bullying. Somebody in that building to bully that dude back into his place. Oh no.

What a point of course? To be fair, Brett Yormar kind of bullied him back into his play. I like it. Yeah, I should point out Top roped him. When this happened, Sean Dillon's Twitter was public and now is very much not.

Oh, no. Someone did as far as Cody's bullying goes, someone did apparently talk to me. Also, I didn't realize that whole clip,

Parker Rainesworth, just squarely in the back. You can see me taking my foot. I'm taking a picture of it. Yep. The Parker View. Brian Santiago is somewhere in there. Parker Rainsworth,

a couple of Waco local guys just done. unfounded with what's happening. Overall, and I guess this leads to Brett Yormark, political guy, I guess politically correct is what I should say. He comes out and he's like, I'm not going to say anything. And this isn't the time to answer these questions, which when else is the time to answer those questions? Did we like the rhetoric the way that you're, do we like the way your mark sounded at Big 12 media days as a collective whole? Yeah.

Yeah, but let's also not gloss over the fact that we're trying to compare paddles to to throwing something on the field. They're trying to draw a correlation between. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech and Brennan Sorosby and gambling. I don't know, fellas. I thought it was a little... I mean, a attempted low blow. I think it's pretty clear that there's no world where you

would be able to compare a Texas Tech to Oklahoma State. Right, that's just not fair to Texas Tech. I did like that. He just started throwing a 8. If we're going down, we're tearing all you guys down with us. Tortitas. Don't forget that Texas Tech just arrived

in the last like nine months. Calm down. Oh, it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous, man. Like, they're Utah again, right? That's what's happened. It's almost like you give somebody the mantle. You give them the brass ring and they can't help themselves, right?

So I've dealt with it a lot. I really have, like, I keep asking people, how does this happen? But they feel slighted. So Paul lives out east. I will say, honestly, Houston and Texas were only the conference for a year. And so I don't want to like act like I had a lot of experiences of media. person. This feels like living in the state of Texas with the Longhorns

though. Like this is like, it feels like that to me more so than Utah because before Texas got the announcement they're going to the SEC, there was a lot of that kind of were better than this thing anyway from them and Oklahoma for what it's worth for a while.

That's interesting. I would say that because Texas ultimately is what caused the conference to almost fall apart. So it would be welcome. It'd be crazy. I went on long rant about Texas Tech recently and said they went from like the equivalent of the American dream in college football where it was a non-traditional powerhouse sort of ascending to the top of college football because they have a new source of money.

They're their new blood, right? And they were sort of like the encouragement for every other program that wasn't a blue blood. And now I feel like Texas Tech is becoming the schools that they were so adamant against like three years ago, right? Texas Tech complained. They become like what they hate. Like they look in the mirror and they can't like what they have to see.

and they're also acting like they're martyrs about everything. Like every single thing they go through, they're acting like they are just the sacrificial lambs, and it's this poor me act that never ends. Well, and Kevin, they were the baby face, and you're right. They were the bootstrapped. Oh, they turn heel. And they turned heel real fast.

out of the Big 12, we should just leave. It's a little extreme for yours, truly. Yeah, they have one Big 12 championship in their however many years. Colorado has as many, and they left the conference for 13 years.

So it's like they're acting as if they are just the Crem de la Crem. And just because they got a little bit of money now, and it's like if the SEC or the Big Ten wanted you the first time around, they would have taken you and they didn't want you. You are in a undesirable market, no offense to the nice people of Lubbock.

We love Chris Lovell and the people that I've interacted with are all very nice, but Texas Tech really is acting like they are just a blue blood program. And I would, I mean, maybe they'll get a pass to the ACC, who knows, which is a lateral move at this point. So good luck. I don't know where they go, but I do think this is quickly approaching this like,

they're just never, we're just never going to get a long again thing. And there was a Delinger article that came out the morning of second day of media days, I think very intentionally time that talked about like a steak dinner. And I cannot imagine sitting intensely when everyone has a steak knife in their hand between Cody Campbell and Brett Yormark. But a steak dinner where like things were hashed out. But then clearly things aren't hashed out, at least amongst like Texas Tech media. Maybe maybe Cody gets on. And I want to say before we get. too much more bashing on them. I thought McGuire handled everything very

professionally over the course today. I thought it was very intentional and smart to leave Cody Campbell at home. He's been at Media Day a few years in a row. He was not there. Those things were I think good steps. The Twitter beef guy wasn't still in the news. I mean, he wasn't at Media Day.

Yeah, he talked to Ross Dellinger. He was a big part of that Delinger piece. But could he be... The interesting part is if they're going to meet a cattleman's where they went in Fort Worth in the Stockyards, right? Is that where they were at a mistake dinner? And if they've hash this out, maybe the projection is that the media and the fans themselves

think they're going to leave the Big 12 and they're better than this. But maybe the, you know, the powers that be, the Lawrence Scovenecks, the Cody Campbell's, maybe they have made their piece. There might be somewhere where there's a disconnect

between like the media side of it and the actual power players at TTIU. Drake, I have a question for you because you love a good realignment discussion, right? Where would they go? Because the SEC and the Big Ten, we're both lining up to not play them. If Brennan sort of got to play, you think they're just going to throw that away

and be like, yeah, actually, we hated you two weeks ago. But yeah, we'll welcome you. No, this is, this is FIFA. This is we hate corruption until we realize, what if corruption kind of good for us? That's where I think it's like the SEC's here, big 10's like, wait a second. They're doing it how we do it. And that's maybe a cleaner. It's a fair point.

Yeah, right. And so now that it helps them rules for the, but not for me, that's what the SEC subscribes to. Maybe then Texas Tech has a more formidable path. I shoot you straight. They are on a crash course in five years. It will not be today or tomorrow,

five years to be what Clemson has become. Clemson in 2009 had the same revenue in football as Bowling Green. That is not good in case you were wondering the context there. Oh, no. And guess what we heard that on, by the way? So them sucking. The 70 to 33 lost the West Virginia in the Orange Bowl. Well, that was good from then on.

They were good from that on, yes. Yeah. But before, that's Dabo, that's we're getting into Dabo. Prior to Dabo, they were terrible. And irrelevant. They re-evaluated. Dabo starts winning, and now Clemson is a Big Ten candidate or, you know, the SEC murmurs. I think Texas Tech is five years away from dominant football and investing to the point that a bigger conference,

a la Clemson, looks at them and says, we might take them. one great season, has it erased 30 years, though? No, no, no, no one, 10 win seasons since 08, three decades of just insanity of me. I mean, look, the Big 12 changes every year. So if it doesn't change and it stays Texas Tech, you're 100% right. They're going to be on that track.

I just need to see it for another year before I start to buy it a little bit. What I don't understand is, what I don't understand is, why would they alien themselves from the Big 12th? because it's not, it's not, they're kind of spoiled goods. They may, they may think they're, Paul nailed it earlier. They may think through Utah. They may think that the SEC is going to pick up the phone, the millisecond they start calling.

I don't think it's happening. The Big Ten's definitely not interested. So where's Texas Tech going to go? They're going to go to the pack 2.57 and a half. Is that where they're going to end up? Because to me, that seems to be the only destination that could make sense. Secondarily, I'm going to address the elephant in the room. why is my chunky bunny happy ass sitting at home while that goof troop Magoo gets to get in front of a microphone and ask ridiculous questions. What is this?

We need more of you guys here at Big 12 meetings. Parker and I were pretty lonely together. I mean, I tried, but I know. I know, trust me. I know that Cody and Philip, I know you guys tried, but the nice part is the tenor I thought around Big 12 media days, we had the media types of the Sean Dillans, et cetera. They were pretty, they're acting like,

Low hearts. That's probably the best way to say it about where Texas Tech sits. I'm interested to see, though, because to your point, Drake, I'm seeing if they continue to do what they're doing and there as dominant as they are, yeah, there could come a point where the SEC or the Big Ten does say, hey, maybe we do want to take them, but they have to maintain this. They can't backslide at all. Do I expect them to? No, but if they backslide at all, it's going to be very easily to write them off. It feels like regardless. There's also the really key thing here with that bill that may or may not go through Congress, but it's working

the way through Congress right now that locks the conferences including the Big 12. We should hit the, I think it's $700 million income threshold locks these conferences as they are like next year whenever it passes. Yeah, right? So

I mean, as much as fun as it is to talk about conference reallignment, if they're five years away from joining the big ten of the SEC and this bill gets passed this year, no, they're not. They're stuck. I love to talk about protecting college sports in a second. I will say though, I feel fairly confident, Cody, that you have a better

chance of being at the Big 12 Media Days next time and then Sean Dillon does ever again. I think that's fair. No, no, no, no. Okay. Did something go wrong? It is the school that kind of approved this and he just went to bat for him, right? I, the protecting college sports act could shift the thing. And I will say, I was fascinated that it basically, protecting college sports did not come up because while the media, I want to talk about tech leaving, whatever, all all 16 schools per their representatives at the deal were in the lockstep on, hey, let's sign this. And I thought it was interesting that even admit like this isn't the perfect solution, but it's like the start and we need to get fast it for right now. And they were at lockstep on that.

They were locked step on a 2014 playoff. Even Utah, which is Mountaineer Paul's second favorite school in the conference, right? They were very like, hey, like 24 teams in this thing, right? And all of that. That was a interesting thing that was like basically the only disagreement between anything was one school thinking that a kid should play football after betting and everyone else saying no. That was the only screen was seen like any of the 16 schools had over the two days. Fellas, I haven't seen any talk about this private equity deal that everybody turned down. Has that been addressed at all as to why maybe it didn't work?

No, Cody. We're too busy drinking our monsters. Cody, what do you mean? I'm a monster now. Hold on. I haven't heard an adequate sales pitch for that. Like what? We get an extra million dollars.

It is the Dose Grande squad. And the launching point here. at college football tweets. UNLV is getting $2.2 million a year for a jersey sponsor. Learfield estimated some schools will get $12 million a year for a jersey patch. Monster will pay each big 12 school 1.25 mil a year. That's a Mark Harlan math right there. What are we doing with the monster deal with the Big 12? This seems super cheap.

I'm going to sound like a Texas tech reporter real quick here, but what's a million dollars is going to do for anybody. Like this is going to help what? Tennis? The right leg. It's free money. We can get one quarterback's right leg. Oh, yeah. It's not free money, Paul. It's not free money because that's taking up real estate. They could have sold for $6, $8, $10 million for that spot on the jersey.

Now they can't sell that. And Pepsi is irate. I can only imagine Pepsi, who sponsors a lot of Big 12 schools is pretty upset at the whole monster deal. Well, so we actually talked to Mark Harlan, Utah's athletic director Parker was there too. He was asked about that. So they have had discussion with Pepsi. Was he on the field at the star? Did he run on the field?

Yes, he was on the field. Yes, he was on the field, guys. He was on the field. Yeah, but he did say that they have talked to Pepsi. He said, he may sound like they've kind of smooth things over. I'm with you, Drake.

I don't think that Pepsi is thrilled that the Big 12 just went and sign the entire conference because it's a co-ciliated brand. But hey, I'm, I'm done on the gear just for this segment alone. Here we go. I am legitimately like literally drinking the Kool-Aid, so to speak,

I guess. as we sit here. I will say, though, I thought it was interesting was I thought what actually came out. This was Brett did a really poor job of announcing it. And I guess like when you start reading people that have done the reading on the deal, it is regular season Big 12. And so like that still leaves open idea of doing a difference deal for championship things. And it's still,

you're still able to have a second patch if you're, and it's going to be like looped into the big 12 logo on your jersey. So as our real estate goes, there's still the same real estate there was. for Kansas literally the second like the second morning of big 12 days announced a cryptocurrency logo patch sponsor. Excellent. And so some of that to me, it's like I'm kind of closer where Paul just was.

I'm like, you know, maybe it's because Houston just got the big 12. I'm like put it in behind it, make a ground. It's a big 12 logo with the in there. Like whatever. Philip, did you bring this up before we started recording? Also, additionally, every market that monster is in worldwide is going to have to have the big 12 logo affiliate. with Monster, like their products they're putting in these markets.

So that's going to be worldwide exposure for the league. This is better for Monster. This is way better for Monster than it is the Big 12. Like they're on all of our stuff. Plus, Brett Yourmark, he, maybe we need to have a discussion about Brett Yormark. He said, and I quote that the Big 12 is a mature startup. And Big 12 has been around for 30, 30 plus years. And it's like, why are you comparing it to like some AI company that's being started in some

dude's garage? Like we need someone who values the brand, like do this deal, but make sure each program's getting 12 or 10 to 12 million per patch, not one million dollars. Like that's not going to do anything. So Kevin, I hear you. It's not going to prevent it from doing other patches though. Like you can do. You know what I mean? So it's not like.

Yeah, but it's not the best deal on the paper. But we're in a. But we don't have another environment where people are, you know what I'm saying? Like I get what you got. It's just a high pressure deal where they're trying to get. all the money they can for everybody. I just see both sides of it. But they could have gotten more money.

If you look at those projections, they think they could have. You're wearing a monster hat. That's, I got, nobody, nobody's explained to me, nobody's explained to me yet why we should all be excited about an extra

million bucks. Like, I haven't heard. It's not a lot. Yeah. You shouldn't be excited about the extra million dollars, but how much is, you know,

big 12 advertising in 120 countries worth? That is a, like, you can talk about in-kind value that the advertising dollars that you would have to spend to do that to just put big 12 ads at 120 different Yeah, but what are they going to look? Is just the big 12 logo? Like, what does it matter?

No one is Amsterdam? You know, Australia? What is there's more and more line from Europe? What does it matter if people in Europe are seeing the big 12 logo? Like what I'm genuinely like, what is that? Maybe it helps with basketball recruiting a little bit and like there's more. What you don't understand, Borba, is that the courts are glass and the game is broadcast in Times Square.

and we're going to Mexico City and now in Amsterdam when they're having their little hangouts on the boat. Red light district. The big 12 logo is there. You just don't get it. I didn't think about it. We're not greater than 12.

Stop saying we're greater than 12. We're not greater than 12. We're 16 is one, right? That's what I was worried about the tortillas and I got ahead of myself. So I guess my thing is I think there is a lot of talk, though, about like this is a low ball deal

and obviously like when compared to like a single school deal where they're getting two or four like that's I think the ones the most I saw in one that was filed in public was Michigan State with their federal credit union got like close to four but A again think it's worth pointing out every school can get their own individual

deal still and B there's not a conference deal to compare here either like there's not there's not a direct comparison do you think this hurts us getting the other deals now because say Colorado was partnering with Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo Wild Wings goes well,

Monster only paid you guys a million. So why do we have to pay you more? Yes. What if we just decreased our own value by taking this deal? Or taking the the number. I don't because I think the deal with the conference thing is really more about like Colorado is going to get what Colorado is going to get and BYU is going to get what BYU is going to get because the brand of those schools will weigh

differently than the brand of all 16 schools. Okay. Because like you're also pulling in, look, I mean, I know that I guess Nick is over there being quiet because he's always here, but like you're pulling in Iowa State, right? And like, you're pulling in all 16 schools with this, right? Jamie Pollard just emailed Parker.

I just feel like it's kind of like negotiating against yourself. Parker, we're poor. Well, and please help us. Yes, I'm taking the million dollars because my basketball coach called me poor. I'm literally, I make my jersey on NASCAR. I want all the dollars.

Mark Carlin did say this. He said, that's $1 million we didn't have yesterday. He did say that direct quote into a microphone. He says, one million more dollars. And he's a Pepsi school. And he's a Pepsi school. Yeah. So I do, I do wonder, maybe they could have leveraged more money.

The other thing about this is the university presidents that decided to greenlight the cell. This is not a unilateral decision by Brett Your Mark to green light it. The university presidents do have to acknowledge. And if we ever get a chance to talk to any of them, whether in my case, Shane Reese, BYU, et cetera, there needs to be, I think, some explanation. why they accepted this figure and maybe that like made it the most they thought they could get but it feels like based on what other people are projecting they could have gotten more that's a

that that's a good question because the other the private equity deal it was you know you could opt in or you could decline yeah i don't think like i can't speak for everybody but i would assume that oklahoma state wasn't jumping on this extra million bucks so i'm not saying oakland state would have said no to it but i don't understand how all 16 University said yes, this is a great deal. Let's do it. The Redwood deal was for the red red was for several years at the same rate though. And I think Delinger mentions that because again, you got to get that like your market, I don't think presented for this very well. I think that's the most legitimate criticism because it there's this like the beginning of a relationship like

where this can grow as it goes. Right. So we're getting a million and and it's not set for a million five years from now. If both sides see it's about it. And I would rather be, I would rather have a monster patch, which is brand recognition with itself. It's not, it's a, it's a, it's a pretty legitimate partnership than I would have a redbird patch, which means nothing to me. And maybe that redbird patch is 1.5, 1.75. I don't, I don't know what company's going to give. I mean, we're the Big 12. At

some level, what company is going to be like, oh yeah, I need to sponsor that. We we still have a lot to prove in the landscape of college football, right? If the Pac 12 can die with Oregon and USC leading the way, the big 12 still has a ton to prove. Sorry, I think that you've, you've talk me into it. Now I, look, I still think Jamie Pollard to do a political campaign where he cold emails everyone. Help, it's Jamie Pollard and I need you. And it's just like him with a donation box. He's Matt Miller asking for funds. Do you need a hat then? Should I send this to you?
