uh i don't i don't know uh i i get that and the big 12 is tweeting about him and all this stuff but they they're probably missing the opportunities on kelsey too because he's yeah he's a big you know alum too but i feel i was gonna say with the mahomes thing I don't know. I was going to say with the Mahomes thing, I don't know that there's any living athlete who is more important to their school's success in terms of getting it out there. Michael Jordan doesn't have his own brand. But North Carolina is among the school, Drake.

It's one of the great college basketball teams. They're signed onto the guy's brand. No offense to Chris. Another dozen colleges wear Jordan brand. Like the Jordan thing's pretty large. What is tech in the grand scheme of things? Patrick Mahomes puts them on the map on a national

scale. North Carolina was already And that's not bad. Correct. Yes. There's nothing negative about it. I mean, you know, and he's got his own logo. They're putting his own logo kind of like the Jordan thing on their uniform. I mean, you know, this is – because not even like, you know, Tom Brady and Michigan, they weren't really even synonymous with each other.

But there's really no athlete that's like the face of the league like Mahomes is. What, like Brady won a Capital One Bowl or something? He didn't really do anything. The Orange Bowl. True. I mean, Mahomes didn't do a whole lot of winning at Tech. The deal was on individual stats, right? He scored 63.

Yeah, he was a great player here. They didn't win near enough. I mean, I was around Graham Harrell over this past weekend. He just is going to get announced that he's going to get inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame in December. He was a better quarterback at Texas tech than Pat Mahomes was. However, and we actually talked about this in one of our recent shows.

Like if you did a Mount Rushmore of Texas tech football players, Mahomes probably wouldn't even be on it. However, when you factor in all the stuff, I mean, he's a very important figure in, in Texas tech right now. And that's why there's so many people around here that,

that love the Chiefs, right, wrong, or indifferent. I think so. So we have to establish he's the greatest pro athlete in Big 12 history, unless you're counting swimmers and stuff. I mean, Arizona. I think, you know. The world's gambling's okay.

Yeah. I mean, you're not. All the world's being better, though. You're not far off. Yeah. I mean, it's hard to win Super Bowls. And he, I mean, it's hard to win Super Bowls. And he just goes to – the craziest stat that's associated with him right now is all the AFC title games and the Super Bowls and the wins and all that stuff,

league MVPs, winning 17 one-score games in a row is asinine. That just does not happen, especially in that league. And it's because of him. It's great that the second best tight end of all time is from the Big 12, but lest we forget, the actual greatest tight end of all time is also a Big 12 legend, Rob Gronkowski.

being a thing that doesn't really exist anymore. It was actually a very enlightening conversation. Maybe the first time we actually talked about sports on this show. And I want to revisit it because it seems like nothing has really come of this. Here's my question that I really want answered by someone that exists in the void. If I am a college or an athlete, why wouldn't I just unenroll from my university and enroll somewhere else? Why would I enter the transfer portal and the few stipulations that exist with it?

Why even have those or go through that process when I can just say, hey, peace, I don't go here anymore, and then just do whatever I want, Borba? For the guys that don't have major markets, like Carson Beck, when everyone knew he was going to transfer, he had all the options. So he knows what's out there for him. But the guys who don't really know where they're going to go, they need to go into the portal to get those money options to see what their value is. They have to test the waters. That's the whole point of the portal is to test your value. It's the whole point of figuring out where your money is coming from.

So I don't know if you eliminated the portal, how those guys would figure out how much money they're getting paid. Yeah, it's, it's, I'll tell you this. One thing that most people don't know about entering the portal is that God, his voice is good. You guys hear that? That is just unbelievable. Our old Morgan Freeman. Magic Mike, baby. I've been told that before. The, there is a 48 to 72 hour window that athletes have once they enter

their name into the portal where they can withdraw from the portal and their name is not entered. So the school has to wait that mandatory period. I think the story that doesn't get told enough is how many kids get lost in the portal once they enter. Right. Like you enter. They don't have to take you back and they end up with without a school. So it is still a dicey proposition. I thought Kevin made a good point about Carson Beck. Look, man, he knew. As a matter of fact, they were probably tampering on Carson Beck before he entered the portal.

His people were floating things out there. They've got their agents working back channels right now. He says he's not fans about BYU's meddling in the portal. Let's go. Yeah, schools are tampering like a mother right now. Is it safe to think that anybody that has a do not contact has probably already been tampered with?

So when he was at BYU, one of his final games at BYU, he had a team walk up to him in a postgame, like the postgame scrum, and said, hey, if you want to come back to college next year,

we'll pay you X amount of dollars on the field after a game while he's still an active college football player. Which luckily Kalani Tatake was classy enough to do it postgame during the handshake. Hey, yes. It's like the movie The Program. Yeah. The other bit I'll do, though, is kids recruit kids, right? Come on, the kids right tell them it's your turn to talk

you put your foot down i was just gonna say when the guys re-sign deals with their programs like why do you think they're re-signing deals it's because people have talked to them and they gave their school a number and said hey hey, X school is offering me X amount of dollars. Can you match? If not, I'll leave. Sorry. Leverage. I'll leverage. And it's the simple thing.

I mean, Jake mentioned guys talking to guys after the game. It's also like, hey, I went to high school with a guy that plays at ABC College, and their starting running back is getting this. If I don't get it here, I'm just going to transfer to there. And it's not even necessarily that they've talked yet. It's that the kids know one another that well, because there's just only so many circles of separation from it all. It's the weirdest way I've ever heard circles said.

There was a notable SEC starting quarterback who reached out to one of KU's all-big-12 corners this past offseason, asked if he would be willing to come to the school, found out how much he was making at Kansas, and just was like, oh, never mind.

We don't have that much. So left for it. So it's wild.
