Starting point is 00:00:00 Milan Mom Chilovich has been given KU3s for years. Is there any way a donor could stroke a check and make him a Jayhawk for the upcoming season? You are Locked on Jayhawks, your daily podcast on the Kansas Jayhawks. Part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. What's up, Derek Johnson here, and on today's episode of Lockdowne Jhawks, we are deep diving, breaking down Milan Mom Chilovich in his game. Obviously, he would make sense for any team in the country. country. How would this even come about for Kansas? And we'll get into a scouting report and fit with
Starting point is 00:00:40 KU, all that and more on today's episode. We'll start right here. Mom Chilovich is a six foot eight, 225 pound wing forward. You can play him at the three or the four. He would be a senior in the 2026 to 2027 season. But, you know, I guess potentially with five and five, you could have two seasons left, but that's unlikely anyway, because there's a chance he just stays in the NBA draft. Anyway, He is in the NBA draft process right now, and there's, you know, absolutely a chance that he just stays in the NBA draft and ends up going off to the pros. And that makes it, you know, it's not just that like, this is a guy who's beloved by Iowa State and really loved his time at Iowa State. And he is now in the NBA draft process, like you would really have to overpay for this one if you were at Kansas. So like this would be a donor coming in with some, you know, bleep you money and making,
Starting point is 00:01:32 something happen, right? So he was originally a four-star prospect, top 40 in the country in his high school class on 24-7 sports when he was Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin goes to Iowa State where he spent the last three seasons. His first year there, he was all big 12 freshman team, average about 11 points, three rebounds per game on 36 percent from three. Then as a sophomore, he went for 11 and a half points per game with 3.3 rebounds per game on almost 40 percent from three. This past year, was his best yet. He was all big 12 second team averaging almost 17 points per game with 3.1 rebounds per he shot 51% from the floor, 49% from three on seven and a half takes per game. He also shot 88% at the free throw line. But you're talking about one of the best three point
Starting point is 00:02:20 shooter. If he comes back, he's probably the best three point shooter in college basketball. He's the first career, 43% on three is on over 600 attempts with a career 46, 40, 4,000. 43 85 shooting line. And it's the consistency, too. Like, it's not like he's having one game where he's making eight threes. And then the next game, he's 0 for eight or something. He had zero games this past season where he made no threes. So you're always getting something out of him.
Starting point is 00:02:47 He had four games where he only made one three, right? Now, on the flip sides, you only have four total games where he made zero or one three. He had 17 games where he made four or more threes. And he had six games where he made seven or more. threes, which is like a fine number for a team to have at a game if you're like seven of 20, you know, but he is 19 of 53 from three in his NCAA tournament career. That's down a little bit, but it's still 36%. He also shot a tad over 40% from three in his 69 career games against Ken Palm Top 100 opponents.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Again, best shooter in the country if he comes back. Metric wise, 99th percentile on RIPM and win shares per 40. He's in the 88th percentile in P.E.R. 98th percentile in wins above replacement player. The on-off numbers are super impactful too. I mean, just the gravity of having him on the floor is so potent. Iowa State was almost 12 points better with, you know, pretty equal offensive and defensive splits per 100 possessions when he was on the floor. Over the course of his career, they've averaged out at being about nine points better per 100 possessions when he is on the floor. So really impactful player too with what he can open up for other players. He's the number
Starting point is 00:04:01 three ranked transfer at on three, number four at the athletic, number seven at Evan Miyaka, and number two on 24-7 sports. Obviously, this is a take for Kansas. This is take for any team in the country, if you can afford it. And that becomes the big challenge here. It's not just if you can afford it, though, it's also, you know, is he can even come out of the NBA draft and then what schools would he even be interested in at that point in time? And to be honest, like, I don't think Kansas can't afford it. But we've said it before. We'll say it again. All it takes is one donor being like, I would love for Milan Mom Chilovich to be a Kansas Jayhawk. Here, I'll write a check for him to come to Kansas, you know.
Starting point is 00:04:40 So let's break it down a little more on the scouting board and what the fit would look like. This is locked on Jayhawks. Starting point is 00:05:40 Scouting report on Milan Mom Chilovich. You'll never believe what one of the strengths is. It's shooting the basketball. 49% from three is obviously bonkers. It is even crazier when he's on a 99th percentile for three-point attempts per 40 minutes. He's launching him up and he's still shooting him, you know, like about similar to a percentage of Utoka Azabukee free throws. It's just incredible, right?
Starting point is 00:06:03 Speaking of free throws, also shot excellent at the free throw line. He also shot really well on long mid-range twos at 50%. He had a 98th percentile true shooting percentage, a 100th percentile perimeter sniper rating. He can shoot it short. He can shoot it on long threes. You're talking 47 percent on long threes, which are 25 or more feet according to CBB analytics.
Starting point is 00:06:26 And he's zone proof to. You want to stick him in the corner. You want to have him shoot it from the wing. You want to have him shoot it from the top. His worst zone, the worst shooting zone he had from three. was 43% from one of the wings. So his worst three point shot was still an elite three point shot. And his best, by the way, he shot an insane 72% from one of the corners.
Starting point is 00:06:47 So again, best shooter in college basketball if he comes back. And it's not just the shoot. Like when you were this good of a shooter, you know, it's one thing to have a skill is, hey, you're a good shooter. When you were this good of a shooter, you were at the top of scouting ports every single game. And the gravity that that creates of how the defense has. to guard you on and off the ball of the energy they have to expend on you of how much that opens up the court for everybody else out there is so incredibly impactful right he's also really good on
Starting point is 00:07:18 transition play 96 percentile on efficiency on transition play um he's not somebody like that's the thing you would think if you're having to pay whatever i'd imagine it's going to be i don't know five six seven million dollars to get milan mom chilevich to you know come out of the NBA draft and go to your school. A lot of times if you're paying a player that much, it comes with like, hey, you're going to be handling the ball a lot and you're going to have the ball on your hands to make plays and stuff like that. And that can be a problem if you already have some of that on your team where it's like you're adding this late in the game and now there's somebody else who needs the ball in his hands all time. You don't have to worry about that with Mom Chilovich. He had a 97th percent
Starting point is 00:07:59 out turnover rate. Big reason why, not just good at avoiding turnovers, but because he's somebody who's just an off ball maestro. So he can slide into any team and kind of make it fit. And I think that's the beauty of it that he is kind of roster proof. He can play the three if you want to play big. You can play the four if you want to play small. He can be an off ball shooter for a good point card. He can be an off ball shooter for a good center you have. You can just do a lot with him and it makes it really, really helpful when you're building a roster. Weaknesses here rebounding. So despite the size, he doesn't get on the boards a ton. He was in the zeroth percentile, so very bottom of college basketball along forwards in offensive rebound rate.
Starting point is 00:08:37 He was only in the 17th percentile in defensive rebound rate. Now, because on offense, he's always shooting threes and away from the basket. It makes sense he's not getting the offensive rebounds. I would like to see the defensive rebound rate be higher, but that is something that you just kind of got to live with and trade off here, right? Now, if you're Kansas and you view, hey, we think we have really good rebounding, a lot of these positions, you can probably afford to have that. But he doesn't get to the free throw line either, right?
Starting point is 00:09:02 Mostly three points here. he doesn't really attack the rim or playmate get assists for others, but that's not really what you're asking him to do anyway, so whatever. Not really somebody who's going to create those shots for him, right? Like 88% of his threes were assisted. Seventy-nine percent of his remakes were assisted to, right? So he does a lot of his creation, so to speak, off the ball and what he's able to do. And he is deadly, but he's not somebody who, hey, there's five seconds on a shot clock. All right, just give Mila, Mob Chilovich, the ball 35 feet away from the hoop and watch him go create. That's not. what's happening here, right? He also doesn't really create chaos defensively. I actually think he is a
Starting point is 00:09:39 solid team and positional defender. I think it's a fair conversation of like, is the Iowa State T.J. Otsilberger like special defense propping him up on the defensive end because he's only in the 17th percentile on Hakeem rate. I do think he's at least a solid team and positional defender. I don't think he's like plus defender. I think he's a fine defender, right? But you're not getting plus defense necessarily there either. All right. So we know this would be obviously a take, but what would the fit look like if KU were to somehow scrounge up enough pocket change to make
Starting point is 00:10:09 this work? We'll get to that next. Don't forget. You join the everyday air club at locked on Jayhawks.com. That is locked on Jayhawks.com. Get the ad-free version of the show. So again, obviously, this would be a take for Kansas or any team in the country who could afford and get the services that Milan-Momtelovich would want to go
Starting point is 00:10:30 there, right? It more so just becomes about would you want to go to your school and do you have enough money to do so of which right now i believe the answer would be no for k you but you know if bill self approaches the donor is like hey because the donors are probably a little more familiar with a guy like milan mom tilovitch who's been in the big 12 and stuff that maybe some other players you might be approaching him about maybe you could get it done a little doubtful there but you know just takes convincing one guy you know who has enough money right um so if you do bring him in you're looking at one of two things you're either playing small where you're saying, hey, we have our two guards, we have Momchilovich at the
Starting point is 00:11:07 three, we have Stokes at the four, we have Dawes at the five, right? And that would actually be a really fun lineup. Dawes gives you plenty of rebounding even at the five. Stokes gives you plenty of rebounding at the four. Then you have the shooting of like Blighton and Bomchilovich with Stokes driving and stuff. Even Dawes can space it, right? That's fun. Or you can play super big and you can play Like you could play a lineup where you started Stokes as your point guard and you have, you know, whoever you want your two to be. It could be Kinney. It could be Blighton.
Starting point is 00:11:36 It could be Rosario, whatever. Your three is Mom Chilovich. Your four is Dawes and your five is the center. And that would still have enough shooting because you would have, you know, Bliden or Kinney or Rosario along with Mom Chilovic at the two and three. Dawes can at least shoot a little bit at the four. You could still make that work with a big lineup or a small lineup. And that would still give you some versatility there.
Starting point is 00:11:57 So again, like, this is just one of those where like it would, it would make Kansas like, like I just envision the world where Tyron Stokes is this dominant driver. He's finishing at the rim at a high level. He's getting to the free throw line a ton, but you can't over help onto him because you have Milan Mom Chilovich standing in the corner waiting to splash an open three. Like that would be such a deadly combo if you could get it done. It's probably a bit of a pipe dream, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to dream that dream anyway. All right, that'll do it for this episode of Lockdown, Jayhawks.
