Victoria Miller is visiting KU.
Does he make sense?
Could he add some three points shooting to the fold for Bill Self and KU?
You are Locked on Jayhawks, your daily podcast on the Kansas Jayhawks.
Part of the Locked on podcast network, your team every day.
What's going on to Derek Johnson with another bonus episode of Lockdown Jayhawks?
Deep dive into another potential transfer portal target.
Victoria Miller, well, probably not potential because he's visiting KU.
So we'll get into his potential fit with KU, scouting report, and latest news on Miller.
Who is victorious Miller?
Great first name, although it hasn't always led to a ton of victory so far in the collegial level.
But he is a 6'5-190-pound shooting guard who actually KU was recruited a couple of times.
I think KU recruited him a bit out of high school.
And then I think last year when he was in the transfer portal, I think there was a little bit of,
I guess, flirting, you would say, from KU and Miller.
But obviously neither time it materialized to him.
him coming to KU. So maybe the third time's the charm.
Sounds like he's visiting KU today.
He's going to be a junior.
This upcoming, so potentially two years left to play.
Although, who knows what's going to happen with the five-year stuff.
But Miller was a four-star top at 90 prospect coming out of high school when he was originally
recruited by, you know, KU and others in the class of 2024.
He then goes to LSU out of high school, plays 25 games as a true freshman, 19 minutes per game.
So solid role player there.
Average is about nine points per game on 45 percent from the first.
floor, 32% from three, and then leaves to go to Stillwater, where for the Cowboys this past season
had a pretty good year, 10.8 points per game, points in rebounds per game, 1.1 steals. He shot 42% from
the floor, 37 and a half percent from three point range, and then 86% at the free throw line. And
you're talking about almost four attempts per game at nearly 38%. This guy can clearly shoot it
from the outside. And interestingly enough, like just at the beginning of the season, the first five games for
Oklahoma State, they probably thought that this dude was on like his way to being like an all
conference level player because over the first five games, his season low through the first
five games was only 13 points. And he had games of 21, 24 and 30 points through the first five.
So to the first five, they're like, oh my gosh, like we got, we got a store in the making here,
right? But then really over the course of the season, it was very boom or bust for victorious Miller.
He had 10 games with 14 or more points.
He also had 10 games with five or less points.
So it was very much like just not his day at all or it was a really good day at the office, basically one of two.
Now, I say this all the time.
Shooting, consistency, defensive awareness, those are the things that typically get better as players stay in college a little bit longer.
And so the idea that he's a talented player and a good shooter, but maybe he's not super consistent,
well, next year going into another year of college makes me think, okay, one of the
of his bigger, I guess, weaknesses you could say should get improved on a little bit, which
makes him even more appealing to what he already does well.
Now, metric, you're talking about a guy who has very different metrics for the offensive
side versus the defensive side.
He's in the 80th percentile on offensive RAPM.
He's only in the 44th percentile in defensive RAPM.
He's in the 70th percentile for offensive windchairs per 40 minutes.
He's only in the 33rd percentile for defensive windchairs per 40 minutes, above average
to good at both of those overall.
He's also above average in both PER, basically his efficiency and wins above replacement player.
The on-off numbers, it's basically Oklahoma State was on defense, whether he was on the floor or off the floor.
The Cowboys were about a point and a half better per 100 possessions offensively when he was on the floor.
Interestingly enough, though, if you go back to his year prior at LSU, the Tigers were like 17 points better per 100 possessions when he was on the floor.
So a little bit better at Oklahoma State, not a ton, but much better when he was at L.A.
you. And you look at some of the places where they have him ranked in the transfer portal rankings on three and Evan Miyakawa have him in the top 130 and then 24-7 has him in the top 85. So in general, just a consensus top 130 transfer portal prospect that is out there. And this is a player that to me feels like one that is probably not going to be a bank breaker, but has experience at the power five level and in the big 12 can do something that you need. Three-point shooting has one.
one that you've had interest in before.
He has the, I think, prerequisite athleticism to play at this level.
This is one that I think makes a lot of sense in a lot of different ways.
So let's get further into the scouting report, what exactly you would bring to the table
and what exactly the fit would look like at KU next.

And we'll get to the scouting port now for Victoria's Miller visiting KU.
Let's talk strengths first.
Really strong three-point shooter, right?
You're talking over 37% on the season on about four attempts per game, but he was also an excellent long mid-range shooter.
According to CBB shot charts, 48% on long mid-range twos.
What that tells me is it kind of furthers the idea of him being a good shooter from distance, right?
And it overall leads to him having a 79th percentile in perimeter sniper, which is a basically shot on, or, you know, a opportunity where it would be an assist for somebody given the ball to you.
So a lot of catch and shoot opportunities, right?
So very good in that area.
And I think when you relate that to this next one,
he is a good, low usage player who can play off the ball.
We've had some conversations about players of what's the fit
because they need the ball in their hands.
You don't have to worry about that as much with victorious Miller,
which makes him an easier fit for a lot of different rosters, right?
He had about an average usage rate.
It wasn't too high.
Like his usage rate would have been below Darren Peterson,
Melvin Counsel, Tray White, for instance.
He also shot over 40% on corner threes this season.
And KU loves to use their offball guys in the corner specifically.
Like I think of Trey White, some of the big moments he had.
So I think a lot of those lead to the idea that he can be a really good off ball player for you,
which is so nice when you're making a roster.
You have to have players who can have it on the ball to make that work, right?
But let's say if you can land a Tyron Stokes, if you have a Stokes and a Kinnie and who knows what else you can do in the portal,
you know, having a player like this can be the perfect common.
complement around some of those guys.
He also does, you know, sometimes you think of just like guys who are good three-point shooters,
like, oh, that's all they're doing.
You know, they're not driving.
No, like Miller does get to the free throw line a lot, too.
He had a 77th percentile or better in both free throw attempt rate and free throw attempts per 40 minutes.
He's also nails when he gets there over 85 percent at the free throw line.
So somebody who isn't just hitting threes for you, but is winning in another way that's
analytically solid as well.
And then he's a very good fast break score.
You're talking he's one of the better players in the conference in fast break points per 40 minutes.
He also had a 79th percentile in points per possession in transition.
So a very good fast break player as well.
Some of the weaknesses here.
He was below average on two point shooting.
That not really his forte.
And the biggest reason why is he struggled around the rim.
He was in the 16th percentile.
So that's very bad in layup shooting according to CBB analytics.
So not the best.
He was good to getting you the free throw line, but the layups themselves are not falling at a high rate.
Also below average passer, I would say.
It's not really a playmaker for others.
He's also a bad defensive rebounder.
So even though he's six, five, it's like, well, sometimes you can play a six, five guy at the three.
You probably don't really want to do that with Miller because you don't really have the defense or the, the defensive rebounding to make that work.
Now, one of the big questions here, I didn't put this in strengths or weaknesses, but is the defense to me?
because you look at the steel rate and the block rate, they were both above average for guards.
So that's good.
However, the team metrics did not like his defense.
However, Oklahoma State's defense this year was kind of a train wreck.
So how much of it was just bogged down by the situation around him, right?
Because if we go back to his team metrics at LSU, they're at least average to above average on the defensive end of the floor.
So I guess what I'm saying is I don't know that like, I don't know that.
I don't know that I'm going to view the defense as strength.
In fact, I'm not.
I'm not going to view the defense as a strength.
But I don't think I'm going to view it as a weakness either.
You know, I would almost view this as like an Isaiah Moss kind of addition with more potential
because he would have another year potentially.
And, you know, I think there's a little bit extra there with the ability to get to the free throw line
and being a former top 100 recruit.
So in general, is this a take?
What would the fit be like for KU?
We'll get to that next.
Thanks for joining us on Lockdown Jayhawks.

we can like and subscribe. And what would the fit be for victorious Miller here? Well,
he's a two guard. He's a shooting guard, right? He doesn't have enough playmaking to be a one.
He doesn't have enough of the defensive rebounding to be a three, in my opinion. So he's pretty
strictly a shooting guard. He would just be somebody that would space the floor and make lives
easier on a lot of other players, right? Like, you look at the spacing inside for Keanu Dawes,
for instance. That's going to get opened up by a player like Victoria Miller on the
outside. You look at the guys who are going to be initiators who are passing out like
Taylin Kinney. It's going to make his life easier and get more assists having a guy like
victorious Miller. I think this too, like I think the way I look at it is Miller is the type of guy
that if you told fifth starter, like again, going back to the, I said Isaiah Moss, you look at
Isaiah Moss and he was the fifth starter on a team with Doak, Dotson, those are two of the,
the top 10 players in college basketball that year.
And then you have a, what, a young O'Chag, Baji and Marcus Garrett, who's like the best
perimeter defender in the country that year.
And then you just needed a solid role playing fifth starter to fit in and in that situation,
be the shooter on the team and fill that role.
And that's how I view victorious, if he's a fifth starter, like, I think that's totally
fine if he's fitting that specific role.
Also, though, I think there's a chance that, you know, would he be in the conversation to
start. I think so. I think he'd be in that competition. Obviously, it depends on what else KU brings
at the guard position. Could he be coming off the bench? Could he be your sixth man? I'll say this.
If victorious Miller is your sixth man, that is what the best scoring and shooting sixth man that
KU has had since Remy Martin, you know, that would be a great thing for KU to have. But I guess point
being like, let's say KU brings in another guard and they were able to bring in Miller, for instance,
you have an open competition.
One is the starter.
The other is one of your best scores off the bench that you've had in several years.
That's not a bad place to be for KU.
So the idea and the beauty of a player like Miller is as long as the cost and what he is expecting of the role line up here,
he's the type of player with his archetype that can fit into basically any type of roster
and that I think would make him super valuable for KU.
All right, that'll do it for this episode of Lockdown, Jayhawks.
You can find a show anywhere you get your podcast.
I guess the bottom line, I didn't say that.
but yeah, he'd be a take for me.
All right, see you next time on another edition of LOJ.
