So, Nick, let's just get right into it. Some off your first purchase. Terms apply with game time. So Nick,
let's just get right into it. Some fun crossover questions here. Teased it off the top. What do you think has a better chance of happening? Kansas basketball winning the national championship,
cutting down the nets at the end of March Madness, or KU football winning the Big 12 title?
I know what my reflex tells me. I know what conventional wisdom would tell you is that Kansas basketball is a
powerhouse. Of course the answer is them,
but we know how random March madness can be.
You could be the number one team in the country.
You could be a one loss team,
a two loss team heading into the tournament and weird stuff happens.
And all of a sudden your season is over and you have nothing to show for it
with football though. It's a little bit more cut and dry like you're just asking me do i think
kansas can be one of the two best teams in the conference for three and a half months and then
can they win that game against whoever it would be in the big 12 championship i'm actually going
to go kansas football here because of the fact that like, yeah, they could stink,
but we don't think they stink. We think they're a good football team and there's less randomness
involved. There is not the NCAA tournament that is just weird and funky and hard to predict.
So because of that alone, I feel like I have to go Kansas football.
Okay. So I'm going to, I'm going to ask you a question that I'm already regretting that I am
asking you this because it is kind of a numbers-based question,
so this could go horribly wrong.
If you just had to throw a percentage on Kansas basketball winning
the national title, what would you put that at?
10%.
Okay, so this is not the be-all, end-all, but ESPN-FPI gives Kansas
a 17% chance to win the big 12 in football i don't know how you how are they how do
you calculate these numbers it's kind of like um you know when they do uh in basketball specifically
but they do it during in nfl as well they'll say you know with five minutes to go in the fourth
quarter so and so had a 2% chance to win the
game. And then they went on a run to win it. And then you go, Oh, wow, that's crazy. What does that
tell me? All it tells me is they were down by a lot and then they went on a run something my eyes
already told me. So I don't know. 17% seems really high. It seems really high, but I guess
you get to that number by saying there are X amount of teams who just have no shot. Like all the teams at the bottom have zero chance to win.
And then you just kind of divvying it up between K state, Utah, Oklahoma state, like whoever else
you think has a chance. So that's kind of like, it does speak to the point though, right? Which is
that in the big 12, there are a handful of teams that have a shot.
Like simply put,
if you don't have the talent,
you don't get lucky in college football.
You're not going to win the conference.
Whereas in college basketball,
whatever that number is in the big 12,
that number is higher for how many teams can win the NCAA tournament.
Yeah.
And I think that if you were to phrase this as,
do you have for, instead of winning the national title,
Kansas just being the best team in the country,
being the number one overall seed in the NCAA tournament,
maybe that would be a little bit better of a conversation.
But even then, there are a lot of good teams out there
to where it's like Kansas could be one of the best teams in the country
and still be, you know, the fourth best.
And then, yeah, your odds might be like 10% or something like that
to win the title.
So I agree.
Yeah, and like whoever you think the best team in college football is this year,
like, what do you think their chances are of winning the college football playoff? Because
that's a much different question of, can this team win their conference? Of course, right. Just be
the best team and then win one game. Whereas like, okay. And then what? And then will they go and win a 12 team tournament? The number goes down dramatically once you're talking about these single elimination tournaments. it's three some years it's five i don't know why they just don't do a set number regardless having a new york city invite for the heisman or a ku football player
or i'm sorry a ku basketball player winning national player of the year
it's definitely a ku basketball player winning national player of the year and really you're
asking me will jaylen daniels get a heisman invite or will devin neal yeah I could but he's also a running back so what's the number
didn't say though I know but to even get invited as a running back what what are the what's that
stat line look like for the season it's a stupid it's a stupid stat line and you know it's like 25
touchdowns it's like 1200 yards I think it's probably like 1600 yards like 20 touchdowns
because he he has the boost of and you can say Ollie Gordon had like. I think it's probably like 1600 yards, like 20 touchdowns. Cause he,
he has the boost of,
and you can say Ollie Gordon had like 2000.
I think he just missed the invite last year,
but that was the exception for the most part.
If you have that much yards,
Kansas is going to have the story behind them.
If,
if Kansas goes 10 and two and you do that,
it in the same way that RG three had it behind Baylor.
Again,
I almost view,
I think there's like a token running back that gets an
invite to New York city. Again, I think last year was maybe a little bit different, but it's almost
like, Hey, you're a running back. You're not going to win this award, but we'll give you a free,
free trip to New York. Here you go. Yeah. It would be different if K you had like a stud
wide receiver who you thought could catch like 18 touchdown passes this year, because you really go
back to the history of
the college football playoff there are certainly exceptions like with jayden daniels last year but
for the most part it's put up crazy numbers and also be one of the four best teams be on one of
the four best teams in america and last year was just kind of a weird year where nobody really
emerged and that's how jayden daniels won on the numbers alone but for for devin neal at running back it's not just put up crazy numbers
it's also go to the college football playoff which could happen but now you're asking for a lot of
things whereas with hunter dickinson we already know he's one of the 10 best players in college
basketball we thought that before last year he validated it with his performance and now with
zach edie gone,
it all of a sudden kind of lines up to where you're going to put up crazy numbers. It's just
a matter of like, how much is Kansas going to win? And are those numbers good enough to just
like thrust you over the rest of the pack? Yeah. I think if, if Hunter Dickinson has the same
production, but Kansas is just the best team in the country, as opposed to what they were last
year, like that gets you in the discussion. So i would agree with you there but i i think there is that outside shot uh kenneth
walker was sixth uh that would have been just outside of an invite a couple years ago he had
1618 touchdowns i don't i don't know if he played in the bowl game i feel like he probably would
have opted out uh so maybe that's kind of what you're looking at there in terms of getting to
that point okay next one uh having a first round draft pick KU football or KU basketball.
Okay. The only guy I feel like would be a first round draft pick from basketball.
I feel like it would have to be like Flory Badunga or something, right? Or like Rakees
Passmore comes on the scene and it's just, it's gotta be a freshman.
And I think that's just kind of how basketball works.
I don't know.
Zach Eaddy ended up being a,
he ended up being a first round draft pick
and nobody thought that a year ago, right?
Like a year ago, you were thinking mid second for Zach Eaddy.
And then he was so good.
It was undeniable.
And then a couple of teams fall in love with them.
I don't know that i see that
happening with hunter dickinson but again um i guess it just did happen with football
devin neal's the best pro prospect i feel like a kobe bryant um but you gotta have a crazy year
you gotta have a crazy year get a lot of picks be a shutdown corner like be a shut down corner they
can put you on an island all of a sudden you wind up getting drafted like 18th overall so i came up with two possibilities
neil i don't think is a first round pick jalen daniels i don't i don't really know it's his
health like and he's undersized even if he has a crazy season i still think there's enough
uh dings that they'll have against him so hunter dick Dickinson, Flory Badunga and Marquis Passmore versus Kobe Bryant.
I think I'm going Kobe Bryant.
I think I'm going KU football.
Yeah.
And so Kobe Bryant,
obviously undersized in terms of the weight,
Emmanuel Forbes was a middle first round pick for Washington.
It was what a year ago,
two years ago.
And he was like 158 pounds or something at the combine.
Like it can happen if you have the production.
I would actually go KU football as well.
Maybe like a guy like Logan Brown.
He's a former five-star recruit,
like top 25 recruit in the country.
He has the body for it.
If he goes out this year
and let's say he were a second team All-American,
would that be that unthinkable?
No, probably not.
I'm going to have an episode on the KU basketball one
with could they have a first round pick
because every title winner has a first round pick. I'm going to do that on tomorrow's show. So there's a little
teaser for that, but maybe AJ store would be the answer. I don't know. Okay. Last question here,
Lance Leipold leaving for another job after the season or bill self retiring after the season.
Oh man. I guess it's Lance Leipold. I'm just going to go with the fact that Bill's been doing
this for 20 years and I just don't see him retiring right now. Like he's had so many
opportunities at this point. Like you finally got the FBI stuff in the rear view mirror.
I just, I don't see him slowing down this year. If you told me five years, like in the next five
years, weirdly enough, I might go bill self but like
this coming season i don't imagine i can't understand how it would be his last year whereas
if i'm lance leipold it would be kind of a 30 seniors gone yeah dude you were leaving the
cupboards bare like if there were ever a time to be like you know what i'm good here it would be
after this season and i know this by the, because of my online dynasty with KU football and the new video game, it's a big reason.
No, I haven't left. I stuck it out because I've got character. I've got Moxie and I'm not,
right. I want to leave this in a better place than I found it. So we're rebuilding things,
but yeah, there's going to be a lot of holes to fill going into next year.
Yeah, no, I agree with you for what it's worth. All right,
let's get onto another episode of who cares.

All right, continuing on here with Locked on Jayhawks,
we get a little Who Cares edition.
Jason Bean went number one in the UFL draft to the Memphis Showboats. He is with the Colts, I guess, squad trying to make the roster right now.
So we'll see what ends up happening there.
So that or Jalen Wilson winning NBA summer league MVP.
What do you care more about?
I'm going to go with Jalen Wilson winning summer league MVP only because,
you know,
not super locked into the Memphis showboats and their prospects.
I don't know much about that quarterback room.
Like,
is this a situation where Jason being walks in and like,
he's the guy or is he gonna
have to earn that spot like is there a chance he's coming off the bench that's that's tough but
with jaylen wilson winning summer league mvp it's kind of exciting only because i feel like
ku's had a history of doing this uh frank mason was really good in the summer league back in like
2017 uh i this is annoying because for anybody 99 of people who I would ask this to, they'd be
like, I don't know, but I know you'll probably already know this. You know, who the last KU
player to win summer league MVP was. I do. I'm going to flip the question on you. Uh, it was
Josh Selby who was actually co-MVP. Do you know who he was co-MVP with? Yeah, I do. Damian Lillard
and slightly different career paths for those two guys
after that day. But you know,
what's odd is I was looking at this last week or whenever that he won the MVP
and I saw that Jalen Wilson and Josh Selby are the only players since 2006 to
be summer league MVPs and not be first round picks.
Everybody else is a first round pick.
And then all of a sudden these two guys just kind of come in and steal the show. Jalen's one of
those guys where like going into his senior season at Kansas, you're kind of like, I don't really
know if he has one of those leaps in him. And then all of a sudden national player of the year
candidate. And then he goes to the NBA and you say, okay, well, this is where it kind of falls
off. He's kind of a tweener. He's
not a good enough shooter, not a good enough athlete, et cetera, et cetera. And now all of a
sudden, you know, he gets a, he gets a fully guaranteed contract with the nets last year.
Now, all of a sudden summer league MVP, he's just one of those guys. I'm not going to count out
like whatever you think he's going to do. I'm not going to tell you you're wrong because he
kind of keeps proving people
wrong.
Yeah.
I don't know if you've looked at the Brooklyn Nets roster,
like bad.
I don't know.
He could start like,
it's not,
it's not unthinkable.
Like there is a real world out here where we're talking about,
I don't know.
Christian Brown might start for the nuggets too,
but like,
is it that crazy that Jalen Wilson ends up having like a more
successful NBA career than like Ochai Bajie, for instance, you know, which it's that would
have been crazy. At this point, at this point, no, because Ochai hasn't really done enough to
make you think that this is going to be a super successful NBA career. And I mean, it's, we're
talking two years in, and if you want to judge or you want to judge the impact or the success
of a player in the NBA, tell me what they do on their second contract.
Tell me if they get one. Right. There have been a lot of guys who will find the right situation.
Wayne Selden, perfect example. He found a situation where all of a sudden he's playing in the NBA.
I think it was with the Grizzlies and like getting some run.
And he looked like, OK, wow, this guy is going to make it work.
And then all of a sudden, you know, he probably could have,
but then he decided to take more money overseas and that's fine.
But a lot of times it's the right situation, but also it's like,
can you sustain it? Can you do it? Okay.
You're going to put up good numbers on the worst team in the NBA. All right.
What about two years now when you're a free agent, can you go somewhere else?
Can you be a role player and still have that impact?
Are you going to be someone who other teams around the league value as opposed to
just the team who right took a lottery ticket on you so no it wouldn't shock me whatsoever if you
told me that he was the most successful pro from that national championship team dude i got a fly
in here and it is trying to keep seeing me during that i saw it land directly on your face, which is a bold fly. I
got to give credit to that, to that fly. It's just a sucker for the camera. Okay. Next one.
Nelly has headlining the 40th late night in the fog in October, uh, that or Darius Acuff Jr.
picking Arkansas. What do you care more about? I think I care more about Darius Acuff Jr. I love Nelly, but I was really pumped about the idea of getting Darius Acuff. KU has been
pretty good about getting these elite big men, getting some elite wings, but they haven't been
able to land a ton of elite guards. I mean, you can count them on one hand. I mean, Devon Dodson's
the last really good one. And he was like a top 20 guy, Darius Acuff, number one guard in the
class, probably a one and done NBA teams are probably salivating big, strong lead guard.
And of course he goes to Arkansas, right? Because KU has lost so many recruiting battles to Arkansas
over the years. I think interestingly enough for like just general college basketball
interest,
it certainly disproves any theories that John Calipari isn't going to be
able to continue recruiting at a high level at Arkansas.
But once again,
my quest for KU getting like,
I don't,
I don't want just like an elite guard.
I don't want like a good college guard.
I want a guy who's going to go on to,
to make like all NBA teams.
And a cuff kind of looks like he might be one of those dudes.
Oh, could get Darren Peterson and then a good to go there.
So we'll see what happens there. I do agree.
It looks cool too, though. Right?
Like you just imagine him in a Kansas Jersey. He looks kind of sick, right?
Well, I, I hate making this comparison because we do this all the time.
It's like KU legends, but like watching some of his highlights, there was a little bit of a reminder of Frank Mason,
not in terms of the overall game and everything, but he had that great first step
and then was able to keep you on his hip and you would never get off it.
And that was something that Acuff had that you see it with Bill Self-Guard
who could really attack, like Devon Dotson had that too to a certain extent.
But yeah, I don't really care about Nelly playing at late night in the fog I just want to let you
know by the way that myself as well as everybody watching is now on fly watch oh I know the tip
it's on the tip of your microphone a few minutes ago it landed right on the bottom of your headphones
it's like I can hardly focus on what you're saying because I just want to see where this fly is going
well if you're listening on the audio side of things, just know you're missing out to make
sure to like, and subscribe on the YouTube page. This is great content. You guys are missing.
Okay. Let's get to whose stat line. Is there any way to finish things out? I guess
real quick, rapid fire one. Uh, what do you care more about new scholarship numbers for,
uh, KU and NCAA or Arkansas working on scheduling an exhibition game with KU before this season?
Arkansas.
I want to see what Calipari is going to do.
I think that's so fascinating that he left Kentucky for Arkansas.
And this is generally how coaches careers kind of like Peter out.
I want to see if it's going to be different for him.
I'm actually more interested in scholarship numbers just because I have no idea how these
schools are going to handle that.
Like it's 105 for football, 15 for basketball.
They ain't going that deep,
you know,
like we'll just give them to walk-ons or something.
All right,
let's finish things up.
Who's that line?
Is it anyway?

All right, finishing things up.
Whose stat line is it anyway the stat that we have
to ask nick for today is about jaylen daniels he's appeared in 25 games for ku
how many times does he have three or more interceptions in a game
i know he had at least two picks in the arkansas game i want to say i feel like some of his biggest
games he's had what i would perceive to be a bunch of picks but how many has he had three or more
i i don't think it's that many i'm gonna go two correct answer is zero he's never done it before
and that even goes back to the true freshman year when he was playing with the you know behind a basically turnstile offensive line now ask me how many times i've thrown three
picks in a game playing with jaylen daniels can i guess more than more than zero more than zero
like nine that much yeah um kind of impressive you know it was funny about him and like the
heisman talk is there was that stretch two years ago when KU started
five and oh, and he had like, I think 19 touchdowns in five games.
He's never really been a guy that though, like is gonna have like a five touchdown game,
unless it, the situation calls for it where you're passing, you're down late. If like
a triple overtime game against Arkansas. Right. But when you go back to like the Heisman
talk, he is he like, I, I kind of, I come around a little bit up on the idea of, of Devin Neal,
when you're just saying the takeaway injuries, just who who's more likely to have monster numbers.
I think history would probably tell you it's Devin Neal just because Daniels has been more risk averse than he has been this like monster stat producer yeah um by the way quick follow-up to that
question how many times does he have two interceptions in a game two I'm sticking with
Arkansas West Virginia and then Oklahoma as a freshman. How many games does Jalen Daniels have a punt?
One.
Three.
So he has the same amount of games with a punt as he has two interceptions.
I don't know if that's – I guess that's good.
A little threat.
A little threat, baby.
Here we go.
All right, Nick, where can you find your work?
What do you got going on right now?

next season and why it is important to winning the national title.
