Starting point is 00:01:10 GameTime. Okay, Nick, it basically is GameTime for KU. Take them on Lindenwood on Thursday night, 7 o'clock. What to you would be the most impressive thing that Kansas can do? Because this is obviously a game where they are favored by a lot. FanDuel has them as, I think, a 44. point favorite opened up at like 43 and a half. We're not going to walk away from this game if they win 52 to seven going, they're the greatest team of all time, because this is not the game you get the chance to prove that. So, so what specifically
Starting point is 00:01:37 do you think they could do in this game that you would walk away and be like, okay, that was impressive. Even given the competition. I think if the result of the game on Thursday, like if Linden would folded their program after the game, like that would be impressive if they're just like, what's the point? Should they run the score up? Because it's David Beatty's alma mater. Is it David Beatty's alma mater? I didn't know that wow um no no we're not gonna do that today is he still coaching by the way he's got i don't know i think i heard he was like an uber driver down in texas right yeah but i think he got like a offensive assistant job with like florida atlantic
Starting point is 00:02:17 or something i don't know rice um and the most impressive thing is that we don't have anything to talk about next week that's it because like i don't want to sit here and say uh oh well you know harry stewart rushed for 76 yards on seven carries like is he a guy to watch no i want the game to be so non-competitive derrick that we can't manufacture topics. I want Jalen Daniels to play two and a half quarters. And I want all the starters stats to be so unimpressive because they only played half a game that we aren't sitting here next week saying like, oh, so-and-so had a nice game. Like I just want everybody to get run. I want Cole Ballard to get run. I want Isaiah Marshall to get run. I want every single player who is on scholarship on this roster to get a snap in the game.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Because honestly, if you are the team that we all want him to be this year, this game against Lindenwood should mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. So do what good teams do to bad teams and annihilate them. Yeah. For me, I want to see pass rush because, yes, hypothetically, your pass rush could not be there this game, and then all of a sudden it flips a switch in week two and the rest of the season, sure. But in theory, there's no offensive line you're going to play that's going to be worse than this one, right? So if you're not getting a pass rush against this offensive line,
Starting point is 00:03:42 what are you expecting for the rest of the season? Yeah, but even if you do get it, like Lonnie Phelps two years ago, not getting a pass rush against this offensive line. What are you expecting for the rest of the season? And yeah, as much as even if you get it, like Lonnie Phelps two years ago, didn't he have like six sacks in a game or three sacks and he had four TFLs, but did that not give us an indication that Lonnie Phelps was, I don't know, maybe one of the best defensive players on the,
Starting point is 00:03:57 on the team. And, and you know, he was, you look at last year, the rest of the season, you know, how much did that matter the rest of the season? You know, how much did that matter the rest of the season?
Starting point is 00:04:05 I think it showed that, like, okay, the way I view it is if you're not going to do it against worse competition, then how can I expect you to do it against better competition too? Does that kind of make sense? Oh, it makes sense. I just, I don't, it makes sense, but just because you do it against bad competition doesn't mean you'll ever do it again.
Starting point is 00:04:25 No, it doesn't. This isn't like a nihilistic approach. This is more of my general philosophy that this game doesn't mean anything. You just need to beat the brakes off them and then move on to the games that will impact the rest of your season. Sure. The way I look at it, though, like Kyron Johnson, I think he had a sack in the South Dakota game. Austin Booker had a big game last year. I think he had two QB hits and a sack sack Lonnie Phelps had the three sacks like
Starting point is 00:04:47 Hayden Hatcher didn't do those things Jeremy Robinson didn't do it like there was a little bit more of an indication of who that guy was from that game in the past for KU against the FCS team uh so to that notion um is there a player that you would like to see like if I told you one player did have that Lonnie Phelps type performance, and that could be applied to any position, right? It could be five catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Who would you take? Who would you think would be most beneficial for KU or maybe just be most
Starting point is 00:05:16 fun? Well, most fun is Jalen Daniels entering the game, healthy, leaving the game healthy. Like that's just like, that's going to be a prevailing storyline all season long. Protect the goods, right? Protect the assets at all costs. And he's a guy where every single time he takes the field,
Starting point is 00:05:36 I'm going to be concerned about him leaving healthy, about him getting to the next game healthy. So it's kind of a cliche answer because I could probably say this every single week. He could play healthy football for two months, but in week nine, I'm still going to be kind of clutching a little bit about, is this guy going to stay healthy all season long? So yeah, I want to see him healthy. I want to see the wide receivers, man. Like I want to, I want to know if this new offense under Jeff Grimes is going to result in more production from the receivers. I know they were really excited to not have Andy Kodal, Nikki in the bowl game last year, but I just want to see how it's going to be different.
Starting point is 00:06:14 If it's going to open up more downfield shots for some of these playmakers, because I do think Kansas has really talented receivers. The offense just hasn't lended itself to those guys putting up, you know, really big numbers or taking those shots downfield consistently. So I want to know if that's going to change this year. Could you make the argument based on what you said with Jalen Daniels that maybe the most important performances in the game are like the backup court? Like what if Isaiah Marshall goes out there as the third string and he, I don't know, you play Cole Ballard in the third quarter you play Isaiah Marshall in the fourth quarter things are going well and Isaiah Marshall in the fourth quarter goes seven for eight for 130 yards with a touchdown and runs for another 30 yards
Starting point is 00:06:54 would that be about as important as anything because that would make you feel a little bit better about that backup quarterback position but then again like you said earlier it is Lindenwood yeah I mean I'm going to be excited to see those guys at all times like at least last year even when Daniels went down whether you liked him or not you knew what you had in Jason Bean you knew what that experience was which is you're gonna get a little bit of everything we really don't know what you're gonna get with either of those guys we saw Cole Ballard versus K-State but it's kind of a one-off not enough to draw any conclusions from and yeah Isaiah Marshall is a complete unknown. So that's why I want to see those guys get run. I want to see both of those guys go out there for at least a couple
Starting point is 00:07:32 of series just to, if nothing else, like you're not drawing any conclusions, but you're just, you're eager to see what they look like for a team that has high hopes and that you hope can have a little bit more quarterback depth than we think they have right now all right we're gonna get on to some season props these are gonna be fun and then whose stat line is it anyway this is locked on jayhawks our episode today is brought to you by game time which has a new feature called game time picks that makes eating tickets for your favorite live events even easier game time picks filters out the fluff to show you only incredible deals on great seats.

Starting point is 00:09:43 slash LockedOn to download America's number one sportsbook and official sportsbook partner of the LockedOn Podcast Network. All right, continuing on here, we're going to get to our season prop bets. Some of these come from FanDuel. Others are just self-created here. Okay, so Jalen Daniels, over under nine and a half started games. What does your gut tell you? My gut, well, what does my gut tell me?
Starting point is 00:10:11 What does my heart tell me? What does my brain tell me? I'm going to say over. I'm going to say over. Listen, I know that there is going to be this level of fear for all KU fans about whether or not this guy is going to be healthy or not. But every indication we have right now is that there's no concern. Like he's been practicing. He is healthy. He's going to play. It's going to be a storyline. It's going to be a concern. But if I don't have any data other than like, oh, he's gotten injured the last couple of years
Starting point is 00:10:43 to suggest that he's going to get injured again. I'm just going to assume, I'm going to take these guys at their word and assume that he's healthy and he's going to play. So I'm going to go over. Yeah, I'm just going to pull a quote here from Captain America on Avengers. I know it is because I don't know what I'm going to do if it doesn't.
Starting point is 00:11:00 So we're just going to go with over and I don't know what's going to happen if it doesn't happen that way, right? I know what scene, that's when they go to space, you know, yeah. And back in time to get the stone, the bad guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:11 All the things happen. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Over under 1500 rushing yards for Devin Neal. That would be a single season KU record. I'm going to go under just because I think there's a lot of mouths to feed. I would take the under on a lot of offensive stats, like whether it's whatever, if you throw a lofty number for Jalen Daniels, touchdowns, any of the receivers receiving yards and Devin Neal, because I do think it's going to be spread pretty evenly.
Starting point is 00:11:37 This is not an offense that's just going to run through the quarterback or it's just going to run through RB one. There are going to be a lot of guys getting touches, but that's not to say he's not going to have a really impressive season. You know, you go for 1350, 1400 yards. That's still a really, really good season. Not to mention whatever he provides in the past game, but 1500 is a lot. So I'm going to go under. I'm going to go over on this. I think he's going to break the record. Obviously, you've got to stay healthy to be able to do this. I go back to that 2021 season when Jeff Grimes was at Baylor. They will feed the top – they'll feed both running backs, but they really will feed that top guy.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Abram Smith, who is a good running back, but I don't know. Abram Smith hasn't had this illustrious NFL career since then, and I think Devin Neal is going to be drafted. I don't think Abram Smith was drafted. He had 1600 rushing yards in Jeff Grimes offense in 2021. So I'm going to take the over here on the Devin Neal one over under one KU receiver. It can be any KU receiver you choose with a thousand yard season,
Starting point is 00:12:37 which would be the first thousand yard KU season for a receiver since the Desmond Briscoe, Carrie Meyer days. I'm going to go over there I'm gonna go over because a thousand yards is not like you're not an all-american at a thousand yards you're not even first team all Big 12 with a thousand receiving yards and I think specifically it's going to be LJ Arnold I I think again I'm just kind of buying into the hype about the offense and more downfield shots,
Starting point is 00:13:05 more explosive plays in the past game, especially if Jalen Daniels is healthy. I just think one of these guys is going to boom. You could take your pick. It could easily be a grim or Skinner, but I just think LJ is more of a complete wide receiver. He can play the X. He can play outside. He can play in this lot.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Like I, I just, I like his skillset to the point where I think, you know, it doesn't have to be a crazy, but like 60 catches, 70 catches, a thousand yards. Like that's a really, really good season. I would take the under on this. This is one where I do expect them because the way they run the football, because the way that they spread everything out. So it went from like, I think LJ led him two years ago, like 750 to last year is closer to like 800. Maybe it's like 900. I don't know. That's not
Starting point is 00:13:49 like that far under, but it's just with the way that they have those three receivers. And I also, I don't know, I guess I would go LJ there, but I did do a look at all the games that Jalen Daniels has played. And in those games where he like started and finished the game it was Luke Grimm who's the leader in uh receptions and receiving touchdowns not LJ Arnold Arnold though I think was right there with Grimm in terms of yards so um I think it's just gonna get spread out because I think Trevor Wilson's gonna play a big role on this team too I think Doug Amelia will get some run here there they're gonna run it with multiple running backs even Jalen's gonna run the football I I just don't know if they'll have the one guy get it, but it wouldn't surprise me because I think if like you had a receiving core
Starting point is 00:14:29 where you only had one of those three starters they have and the other two were just like average players, I think it would for sure happen. You probably have one guy, you know, get like 1,200 yards or something. Over under, KU's leader in sacks at six. What did Booker have last year? Like Booker had like eight, eight and a half.
Starting point is 00:14:48 And then I think Phelps had like six and a half, seven. It'll probably happen. It'll probably happen, but I don't know who it's going to be. There's no obvious candidate. No. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:57 You can say Robinson, but I mean, he hasn't done it each of the last two years. So it'll probably just happen. Like, I feel like it's just an odds game of you're going to play 13, 14 games. Somebody's going to have to benefit from a consistent pass rush.
Starting point is 00:15:13 So I don't think it'll be anything crazy, but yeah, I, somebody will do it. I always think it's funny going back and looking at the, uh, Oh eight orange bowl team that their leader in sacks had like three and a half.
Starting point is 00:15:23 And it's like, that's just so uncharacteristic yet. They had ton as a team because it was just like everybody had like one two or three yeah um i don't know that i'm predicting that yeah i'll say over on this for somebody i don't know maybe it's dj warner maybe it's dean miller uh maybe it is jeremy robinson kind of breaking out okay over under 0.5 ap first team all americans that's so hard to do. I'm going to go over and I think it's a defensive player. I think it's Kobe Bryant. Yeah. And honestly it's, I think it's Kobe Bryant, but would it shock you if it was Melo Dodson, if he went out and got seven or eight picks this year, like he's,
Starting point is 00:16:03 he is absolutely capable of doing that. Both those guys are. So I think it's just too tough at the quarterback and the running back positions. Those are the obvious candidates. But cornerback, get a bunch of picks. Man, like, that's kind of it. All Americans are going in off PFF grades, off coverage rating. Like, they're going in based off counting stats,
Starting point is 00:16:24 and both of those dudes get picks and bunches. So yeah, I think it's one. I think I'm going to take the over and I think it's a defensive player. Yep, I'll go with that too. And then over under three and a half NFL draft picks for 2025. I'll go over.
Starting point is 00:16:40 I'll go over. I think Kobe and Melo both probably drafted. Devin Neal is getting drafted. Devin Neal, yep. Devin Neal will get drafted. And I don't know. Jalen's undersized. I get it.
Starting point is 00:16:53 I feel like the NFL has kind of maybe become more open to just like, hey, if you're a good football player, we'll give you a shot. So I don't, I mean, I don't. I mean, if you think LJ Arnold's getting 1,000 yards, then he could be you know late on draft pick right yeah um maybe an offensive lineman maybe a defensive lineman steps up it's always like it'll always be like a guy who it'll always be like a guy who surprises you like not one of the star players who ends like daryl stuckey from the orange bowl team played as long as anybody in the nfl from that roster he was a good player but nobody was saying like that is that is your prototypical nfl prospect so yeah i i'm just gonna play the odds knowing that i think both of those cornerbacks are getting drafted and just saying
Starting point is 00:17:35 another couple dudes are gonna hear their name called too okay last one over under eight and a half wins that is the official win total over over over yes i mean if not now then when if you can't dream and get a little overzealous this season then when are you going to be able to i i want to see this team win 10 games right if you're pre-season number 22 i want to see them finish the season at number 12 like i know it's lofty i know those are expectations that are kind of unheard of for kansas but this is your last chance. You're losing basically everybody next year. I'm going all in with my expectations for a team that I hope goes all in on
Starting point is 00:18:13 the field. Yeah. I'm going over as well. If you told me Jalen's healthy for the whole thing, I'm kind of interested. You can get on fan duel KU to win 10 plus games. I think that's like plus three 50 there. So you can check that out there.
Starting point is 00:18:24 All right, let's finish up. Who's stat line is it anyway? This is Locked on Jayhawks. We're brought to you by Five Hour Energy. As a new parent who's constantly up at crack of dawn or dealing with things with the kid or you're just tired throughout the day,

This offer is valid until September 30th on one order. It cannot be used with other promotions. The code is not good on subscription orders. Just go to 5hourenergy.com today. Finishing things up with who's stat line is it anyway? Okay. So this is going to be maybe not a fun stat, but KU's playing an FCS opponent. We've kind of gotten past that point where it's like, I'm so worried about the FCS game just because of the past history but here's the question for today how many oops that's the wrong thing how many fcs losses all time does kansas have i mean was fcs a thing 50 years ago is this a relatively
Starting point is 00:20:00 new distinction um it was at least like 40 years ago. Okay, okay. Then I just assumed there's been quite a few scattered across there. And you said it was a depressing stat. So whatever guess I was going to have, I'm going to tack on a few points for that comment. I'm going to go like nine.
Starting point is 00:20:23 No, it's not that. When I said depressing, that was just by the memories you think of when you have them recently over the past 50 it's only it well only it's four uh they're 29 and four against fcs opponents which sounds a lot better than i would have actually thought um i don't know if you can name them all i'll give you this one 1987 was against louisiana tech they lost 16 to 11 so i don't think you would get that one. But I think you'd get the other three. No, because you know I'm bad at these. When I think back to the era, I know South Dakota State.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Yep, that was 41-38 in 2015 when Cozart couldn't get off the spike. Yeah, what was the one in like 2010 was that South Dakota? Speaker 2 That was North Dakota state. And that was the disgusting six to three game, but then they beat a rank to Georgia tech team right after. Speaker 3 Okay. And then there's been one more recently than both of those, right? Speaker 2 It was the nail in the coffin for David Beatty.
Starting point is 00:21:21 It was the nickel state game when they were in a quarterback draw with Myles Kendrick who hadn't been I could picture the logo. I could picture the logo in my head but I couldn't. Yep, that's right. That's right. Crazy enough actually Louisville Kansas State Iowa State all have seven Wake Forest and Oregon State each have six Cincinnati has five so even though Kansas hasn't been, you know, among other peers, the best against FCS teams, there are teams who have been worse. So yeah, do with that what you will. All right, Nick.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Yeah, there you go. Where can you find your work? What do you got going on right now? You can check out our podcast, Could Be Wrong, wherever you get your podcasts.
