Starting point is 00:00:00 Which Mariners are the best candidates to sign an extension? Colby ranks his top five coming up here on the Lockdown Marers podcast. Colby, hit it. You are Locked-on Mariners, your daily Seattle Mariners podcast. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. Ahoy, Sailors, it is Tuesday, February 17th, 2026. You're listening to the Lockdown Marrers podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, now the number one sports podcast network.
Starting point is 00:00:34 My name is Tiding Gazzalas, and I'm joined as always by my co-coast Colby Patnode. We're two lifelong Mariners fans who've been covering the team for over half a decade. And today, it's top five Tuesday. We spun the helm for Colby and he'll be doing top five extension candidates on the Mariners while I'll be ranking the top five rosters heading into this year's world baseball classic. And this is actually pretty good timing for Colby to get top five extension candidates. Because Mark Fein-San has been talking about the Mariners and extensions. He said, quote,
Starting point is 00:01:02 We've been talking about this great young Merritt's pitching staff. It wouldn't be surprising to see them try to pick one or two of them and lock them up on MLB Network a couple days ago. And then we also kind of going off of that, talked about some extensions, some potential extensions on the Patreon show yesterday. And we actually put together a couple of projections for those guys. So we're kind of warmed up on extension talks.
Starting point is 00:01:27 So floor is yours, top five extension candidates on the Marers. Yeah, a couple of honorable mentions or maybe footnotes is a better way to go here. None of the players I'm about to talk about are entering the last year of their contract. So no JP, no Randy or Rosarena, those guys aren't getting extended. They are going to go to free agency. They're going to leave more than likely. They're going to leave. They're certainly not going to get extended.
Starting point is 00:01:53 They will get to test free agency. Also, now have Brennan Donovan on the list, just because I think the Mariners are going to want to see him and see how he likes the city and all that. And plus Donovan's going to want to know that stuff too. So I just think it's too early for them to engage in extension talks. So, yeah, just, you know, keep that in mind. Also, there's not as many extension candidates as you would think. So based on, you know, my understanding of how the Mariners value everybody, and plus they have cow locked in long term, they have Julio locked in long term. Josh Naylor now locked in long term, like pretty much no real surprises there. So anyway, Who, start off here.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Number five, I'm going to go with Matt Brash, which is maybe a bit of an interesting one. He's got three years left of club control. So a guy like Gabe Spire, who I did consider as well as two years left, so you might figure he would be the priority. But you kind of look at the Mariners and the acquisition of Ferrer and they really like Ortiz. And now they've added Simpson. It just makes me think that maybe the Mariners are trying to set themselves up for for Rare to become the primary lefty, high leverage lefty. they kind of backfill with those other guys, you know, probably not, you know, the spring or summer, but maybe next winter if we get a winter.
Starting point is 00:03:10 So Brash is the guy for me. Munoz has already, you know, got his extension. He's already club controlled. He's already making pretty good money. So I don't think there's much incentive for him to sign another extension, although maybe. I mean, I wouldn't rule it out, but maybe. So I think Brash is kind of the guy that fits here. Ferrer, again, kind of like Donovan.
Starting point is 00:03:27 You want to see him, you know, pitch in Seattle. You want to see how he likes the city and all that. So yeah, Brash, to me, the injury concern obviously is something, but he's also a full year removed from Tommy John now. So I'm not sure how that factors in. But obviously, Brash is a guy puts a lot of strain on that elbow of his, and he's not the biggest guy in the world. So there is some wear and tear concerns here.
Starting point is 00:03:53 So there might be a reason for him to be interested in an extension. I came up with four and 25. I figured he's making 1.5 this year. Next year, he's probably making about four. The year after that, he's probably making about eight, give or take, for his three years. And then, you know, elite free agent relievers, he's not a closer, even though he could be. But typically, do you still get some money for saves as opposed to set up guys? So I think, you know, he's probably looking at 15 million, give or take for the free agent years.
Starting point is 00:04:30 So I have 4 and 25, but then there's two vesting options that are based on appearances or games pitched. You know, there could also be other innings pitched, you know, time on the IL, whatever. Basically, it's a durability vesting option. And those come with $10 million. Those are $10 million each, $3 million buyout on every year. So essentially, brash six years, about $45 million if he maxes out, at the minimum. He gives up one free agent year, and he gets paid about $12 million for that free agent year, which is a little bit below market, but he gets the money now, essentially, right? That's always the tradeoff with extensions.
Starting point is 00:05:13 You give up a little bit of long-term money to get the security now, and that's where Brash gives up the security. The vesting options, one could be a player option. I mean, there are certainly different ways to go so that Brash can hit free agency when he wants. But I think that's the way you start. You go $4.25. Again, it pays him about $12 million for that free agent year. And then the options are where you can kind of get creative and you can have team options or player options and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:05:38 So I think is an interesting one. I think he's the guy most likely out of this bullpen to be extended right now, even though he does have three years of club control left. I wouldn't say it's very likely, though, because again, he does have three years of club control left. So there's really not a big rush to get this done. Yeah. So a little bit of a different structure than the,
Starting point is 00:05:57 the Munoz extension, which I was just straight across the board, all club options. Kind of interesting that it goes from $15 million for the first year of free agency and then $10 million on the two vesting options each. I wonder if that might be a situation where it's like $15 million for a club option. Then if the mayor has declined that, then it's like a $10 million player option. And then if he doesn't want that, then you can hit the market. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:25 again with the $3 million buyout, minimum, it's $28 million in guarantees over four years, which pays him about $7 million, which he's probably not going to make that until he's at least ARP 3. So he's probably at least two years away for making $7 million a year. And he starts making that now. Like that's the incentive to sign the deal now. But yeah, probably some kind of, you know, dual option where it first goes to a team option
Starting point is 00:06:50 and then it reverts to a player option and all that. So, yeah, you can get pretty creative with, the options. There are a lot of ways you can do that. And the Mariners like to add them to their extensions. So obviously, Julio has a bunch of them. Does Cal have any options? I don't think so. I think Cal got a pretty straight deal. I know Evan White had some options. Munoz obviously had options. So, yeah, optioneer is not something the Mariners are afraid to do. Yeah, Cal, there's a conditional mutual besting option in 2031. Yeah. There you go. So who comes in an options?
Starting point is 00:07:28 So who comes in a number four? In number four, maybe a bit of an interesting one, because I don't know quite how committed the team actually is to him long term, but Cole Young, I think, is an interesting name here. You know, do the Mariners view him as the long-term second baseman? Do they want to kind of keep themselves open to the possibility that maybe we can go get somebody else there and then we end up trading Cole Young? So you have to be careful here because you want the contract that you give out to still be
Starting point is 00:07:55 tradable if you do decide to do that. And also, if you're Cole Young, you know, what's the incentive? You're going to be in the majors this year already, whether it's opening day or not. And you might be in a situation with a new CBA where you only have to play for the mirrors for five years before you hit free agency instead of six. So maybe you just wait. If you're Cole Young, let's see how these CBA goes. And that goes for everybody on this list. Maybe you just wait and see what the new CBA looks like because none of these guys are free agents this winter. So they don't really have to worry all that much about it. But yeah, Young, obviously, we know the Mariners like him to some degrees, top 50 prospect when he was, you know, actually a
Starting point is 00:08:34 prospect. Pretty good up the middle bat. Certainly feels like he's going to hit for some average. He's got some pop. Like, we know Cole Young is, good athlete. We know he's going to be a better defender. So I came up with $6.36 million. Basically, you buy out all of his club control at a $6 million AAV. Again, projecting four years in advance when he's R1, kind of impossible. But just kind of following a 4-8-12 type of model, 4-8-15 type of model, give or take, you know, that would be roughly 27-ish million. And then the three years of minimum or minimum would be another $3 million, give or take.
Starting point is 00:09:20 So about $30 million. So you're paying a little more than you would have. You just let it play out. But you're also getting two team options at 15 million apiece. So if he is the three or four win player, if he is the all star that the Mariners think he can be, they end up getting him for eight years at about $66 million, which is a very good value. Obviously for him. And again, if you're Cole Young, you were a first year on traffic.
Starting point is 00:09:42 You're not hurting for money, I wouldn't assume. So you might just wait and see what the news see. Because if you only have five years of club control and you sign this deal now, well, you just gave up a year of free agency for free. So you might as well wait if you're calling on. That's why I don't think there's too many extension candidates actually on the roster. It's part of it is the CBA that's coming up. But yeah, I think, you know, six for 36.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I think that more or less is going to align with what he's going to make in the first six years of his career. Obviously, you know, last year, but he might be super two also. So the extra little money that I gave him that might account for him being super two if he gets to that mark as well. So I think $36 million is about what he's going to make over the first six years. And you just get the two team options. And $15 million a piece. Maxes out at $8 and 66 is what I came up with for Cole Young, which feels appropriate. All right.
Starting point is 00:10:38 We'll go over Colby's top three extension candidates on the Mariners in just a moment. Starting point is 00:14:13 So it's top five Tuesday. Colby's doing his top five extension candidates on the Mariners. This went over number five and number four. That was Matt Brash and Cole Young. Who's number three, Colby? Yeah, number three is Brian Wu, which, you know, obviously, I'm sure the mayors would love to get something with Brian Wu done. Wu is four years away from free agency. So there's still that aspect of, you know, why would Brian Wu sign an extension right now?
Starting point is 00:14:39 He's four years away from really getting paid. He didn't hit the Super 2 number. He just fell short of that. So he's not even making arbitration this year. He's making minimum. Now, he got some kind of like performance bump. pay, but he's still drastically underpaid and even R1 guys are underpaid, especially if you're as good as Brian Wu.
Starting point is 00:14:58 And also, Wu has a bit of an injury history, a bit of an injury bug. So there are actually quite a few reasons why Wu might be interested in cashing in right now, getting some guaranteed money in his hands right now. And when I was looking for a comp, I looked at Spencer Strider. Now, Strider certainly a higher ceiling than Wu and had performed a little bit more than Wu. than Wu. When he signed his deal, he was also a couple years younger.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Strider got 6 and 75, I believe. And so Wu is probably, because you do have to adjust for inflation and all that, Wu is probably looking in that range, I would think. You buy two years of free agency
Starting point is 00:15:39 with a six-year extension. He gets paid earlier on the arbitration numbers. And the numbers I came up with, I think you're looking at six and somewhere between 65 and 70. is probably a pretty reasonable spot. Now, if you want 6 and 80 and you're offering 6 and 70,
Starting point is 00:15:57 like are you really going to a balk at the $1.6 million extra per year? Maybe not. And maybe you could just find you, maybe you could just, you know, close that gap with options and incentives and things like that. But I do think Strider is a pretty good comp here. They both had roughly the same amount of club control left. Again, Strider a little bit better,
Starting point is 00:16:16 Woo's a little bit older. But, you know, I, I think, they're in the same range in terms of what their agent or what his agent would be looking for. So I came up with 6 and 66, 11 million per. Six and 72 would be 12, obviously. And so I think that's about the right range. I think we would be looking for around $10 to $15 million. If you're the Mariners buying out one free agent year, I mean, it's better than nothing,
Starting point is 00:16:42 but this early in the process where you still have them for four more years, you're looking to make the best deal you possibly can. And so buying out two free agent years is probably what the mariner's would like to do. So I think there's some mutual interest here. I don't know that for sure. But I think Wu, it makes a lot of sense for him to be interested in getting some money locked down right now. And the Mariners obviously, you know, locking in his cost control years and then also getting a couple free agent years. I think that would help quite a bit, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Logan, Gilbert, and George Kirby.
Starting point is 00:17:14 To have one of these guys in your back pocket already for the next six years knowing that you have him. I think that could free some things up. So I think Brian Wu is a name to watch here. Maybe the biggest sleeper of, you know, extension candidates on this list. Yeah. And if you're Wu, I mean,
Starting point is 00:17:29 you've had multiple elbow procedures in your past. You haven't been the healthiest in your major league career either. You know, guaranteeing yourself some money might be the best route to take here. But we'll see. We'll see what his level of interest in that is. I mean, obviously he's just boomed,
Starting point is 00:17:46 you know, so quickly. in his career, you know, going from, you know, what he was in college, which was really an afterthought to one of the best pitchers almost seemingly overnight in Major League Baseball. So, yeah, he's a six round pick. He didn't have the big signing bonus to kind of, you know, sit on. So, yeah, we'll see. But Wu seems pretty invested in Seattle and the Mariners. And he's very much a mariner type of guy.
Starting point is 00:18:13 So I do think that there's going to be some mutual interest there. Yeah. All right, who comes in a number two? Number two is Colt Emerson. No surprise there. You guys will never believe who number one is. But, yeah. Josh Snailer.
Starting point is 00:18:30 I nailed it. Double extensions. Yeah, Colt Emerson, we talked about this. The Mariners have tried. They succeeded a couple times or well once. Tried to get these pre-debutt deals done. They tried it with Logan Gilbert. He said no.
Starting point is 00:18:46 They tried it with Kelnick. he said no talk about dodging a bullet there and they got it done with Evan white so didn't dodge that one whoops yeah so I mean it's a hit or miss it really is but Emerson is obviously you know an elite or near elite prospect he is part of your future whether it's a third base or second base or shortstop doesn't really matter the Mariners went to build around him he's kind of the the face of the next wave, so to speak. If Cal and Julio are the face of the old or the previous wave, Emerson's going to be the face of the next one and probably Sloan too.
Starting point is 00:19:28 So yeah, it's a little bit of a tricky deal to figure out here because, again, you have him, I mean, you keep him down in AAA for two weeks. You have him for essentially seven full years before he's a free agent. And these deals, they're a little more common than they used to be, but they're still pretty rare. these pre-debut deals. And, you know, Ty and I were talking about this yesterday on our Patreon and the Colt Keith comp came up. And he also signed before his debut. And, you know, it was a pretty reasonable contract.
Starting point is 00:20:02 So just kind of looking at that, I figure for the first six years of Colt's career, being really aggressive with the R of numbers and assuming he's Super 2, which, again, he might not be. He stays down there until May. He's not going to get to Super 2. if that's even a thing in the new CBA, again, that's the big caveat to all of this. I came up with about $40 million over the first six years.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Yeah, because Colt Keith, for reference, he got 28 and a half for his arb years, or for his pre-arb and arb years. Right. And Keith was considered to be around the 20 to 25th best prospect in the game across the board. Top 10. Yeah, Emerson.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Emerson is pretty consensus, like 8 to 10. 11. Yeah. Somewhere in that range. Plus, Emerson is a couple of years younger than Keith was when he signed his extension and also inflation. So you kind of try and factor all that in.
Starting point is 00:21:02 I got to 6 and 40 and was part of that for the easy math that I'm about to lay out? Yes. Yes. Honestly, yes. Because I have then after that three team options at $20 million a pop. So your deal maxes out, you get nine years, $100 million, which is a little bit more than what Colkeith got, which makes sense because Emerson's a little bit better of a prospect than Colkeith was. And that is pre-escalators, right? Are you also having escalators in the deal for-I didn't write those out, but yes, there would be escalators.
Starting point is 00:21:34 And maybe even a team option turns into a player option if you finish, you know, top five in the MVP voting or you finish top 10 twice. Julio's escalators could be in play here. Like obviously not that extreme, but like, remember, Julio's deal is on its essence. It's like nine years, $2,200 million. And that's with, you know, obviously six months of all-star slash MVP level production under his belt. And then the escalators for the MVP stuff,
Starting point is 00:22:04 that's really where things jump. So you can get really creative with deals like this. Does Colt want to sell three years of his free agency? I don't know. Maybe not. Probably not. but he gets the money now. He gets to be in the big leagues right away.
Starting point is 00:22:17 That's probably part of this as well. And he gets $100 million. And he gets to hit free agency at 29 years old. Yeah. Like so he still gets a second or a, I guess now first shot at a big contract, mega contract while he's still technically in his prime. So, you know,
Starting point is 00:22:36 maybe he only wants two team options and then a mutual option. But again, this is where you can get really creative with the, with the incentives. right and you can make it like hey if you do this then we'll jump that aav on the option to 25 and if you do this we'll only have two team options the other one becomes a player option or whatever right so you can get really creative with it but i think that's kind of the baseline here is emerson's going to want about a hundred million dollars i think to get this thing going seattle's going to
Starting point is 00:23:01 protect themselves and i think the best way to do that is with the team options and then you get really creative with the incentive package uh and you just kind of see how it goes so Is Emerson the guy who wants to do this before he even debuts? I don't know. It's impossible to say. I really don't. Logan didn't want to do it. You know, Kellnick didn't want to do it.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Worked out well for one of them. Didn't work out so well for the other. You know, I don't know where Emerson's head's at. It's impossible to say. But you don't lose anything by approaching it and trying it. And people are like, oh, well, you could offend him. And it's like, yeah, because Logan Gilbert was real offended of the Mariners. It's just business, guys.
Starting point is 00:23:40 It's business. The players know what's up. The agents are there to walk. through it. There's no, I mean, geez, Louise, Ozzie Albi signed like a seven-year deal worth $35 million. Like, this is just the business. So I don't know if Colt's going to be interested in this, but I'm, I am absolutely going to make sure that he's not. I'm going to make him tell me no, rather than assume that he's just not going to be interested in the extension. So that's what I would go to him with to start and then you just kind of negotiate from there.
Starting point is 00:24:10 all right Logan Gilbert he's number one clearly uh no number one is randia rosarina oh even know you said at the start of the show Randy a Roserrida is not on this list
Starting point is 00:24:25 number one is Leo Rivas seven years 175 million let's get this done Leo Rivas what have you done sign on a hundred million dollar contract that's right yeah number one's Logan we all know it two years left
Starting point is 00:24:40 this is about the time you get it done because if you can't get it done now, then you really have to seriously consider trading him this winter before you get nothing in return. So this is the time to do it. The Mariners typically prefer to get these things done in spring training. You look at Cal, you look at JP, obviously Evan White. Julio was in August. So was Luis, but Luis got it done after a month of pitching for the Mariners. So once the Mariners, you know, lock in on a contract extension talks,
Starting point is 00:25:10 They like to get it done, like, quickly. So this is the time. It's not impossible, but if Logan isn't signed to an extension by opening day, I think the odds of him getting traded next winter go up significantly, to be honest. So I think they're going to really hone in here and try to get Logan done. We've talked about his contract a lot. Logan Webb is a really good, you know, starting point for him. You have to factor in inflation.
Starting point is 00:25:36 That was five and 90. Five and 90. Yeah. So I have five and 100. Could it be 5 and, you know, 115? Sure. Could it be 5 and 90? Sure. I think the range, though, is about 20 million a year. He's got two years till free agency, right? So that's, yeah, he's got this elbow thing that he's dealing with also. So that's a concern as well. So there are some incentive. And also, you know, he loves, he loves the org. He loves Cal. He wants to be here. He said he wants to be here at least. So there's incentive to get this done for him. And obviously the incentive for the Mariners is, is, you know, if you don't get them done in the next two years and you want to keep them, you're going to pay him $35 million a year to keep him here with that elbow and with, you know, so that's the tradeoff, right?
Starting point is 00:26:20 And there's probably going to be language that includes like if you miss, if you spend X amount of time on the IL with an elbow injury, we get a, you know, team, you get a 60 year option at like a discounted price. It's what they did with Luis. They did it with Felix Hernandez too back in the day. It's very common to attack those extra years, those cheap years on at the end. and if there is an issue, particularly with a pre-existing, you know, kind of concern like Logan's elbow. But yeah, I think overall, five and 100, there's probably some language about IL time that gets them a sixth year at like $15 million a year instead of $30 million year.
Starting point is 00:27:00 But I think that's the right range. I think it's somewhere between the Luis Castillo slash Robbie Ray contract and the Logan Evans contract on the low end. I think that's what you're looking at. And you're listening to the Locktime Mariners podcast, part of the Locktime Podcast Network, your team every day. As always, if you want to hear from me and Colby even more and help support the show, we have a Patreon. It's called Control the Zone.
Starting point is 00:27:24 And on there, we talk Mariners, Seahawks, all that good stuff. For more information, go to patreon.com forward slash control the zone. Link in the description of this episode. So Colby's top five list is all wrapped up. Top five extension candidates coming into number five, Matt Brash, number four, Cole Young, number three, Brian Wu, number two, Cole Emerson, and number one, Logan Gilbert. So now it's my turn here on top five Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:27:48 I spun the Ed Helms yesterday and got top five World Baseball Classic rosters. So, of course, the World Baseball Classic going to be kicking off here pretty soon. So I come through all the WBC rosters with Colby last night, actually, and created my top five. So coming in at number five is team. Definitely not Chachia. I did not recognize a single name on the They have an English teacher on their team.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Okay. They have like five guys. And a nuclear power. They have Homer Simpson on their team, a nuclear power regulator. Like, I mean, they have,
Starting point is 00:28:26 they have like five guys named Martin on their roster. There's Martin Schneider. Martin Serveka. Like these guys are blue caught. These guys have blue collar strength. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:36 There's Martin Servenka. Martin. Cervanka spelled differently. Yeah. Those are two different people. They're really the same people. Martin. Martin Music.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Yep. M. U Z-I-K. Yeah. It's probably, it's probably pronounced differently than that, but yeah. I wanted to be Martin music, though. That would be great.
Starting point is 00:28:58 But yeah, no, it's definitely not Chetia. Coming to number five is Mexico. Okay. It's Randy. But okay. For Randy,
Starting point is 00:29:06 obviously. Randy. the Ureas brothers, Thales Andres Jonathan Ironda Olihaner Kirk Yeah No it's a solid roster Jaron Duran Ran
Starting point is 00:29:17 Browdy Tollos But Yeah Yeah who's starting for them Tage Bradley Javier Assad Yeah Taiwan Walker is on this roster
Starting point is 00:29:31 Yeah Andres Munoz is like By and large The best pitcher On this staff to be fair he'd be the best pitcher on a lot of staffs just not the team i assume you have a number one but uh yeah yeah no but uh yeah brinin bernandino another former mariner on this team yeah but uh yeah the the starting pitching is the uh the issue here for team mexico Mexico also has a top five
Starting point is 00:29:58 hat it's great hat it's great hat but yeah obviously i had to put randy's team on here I mean, I think they also are one of the five best teams. Yeah, they're really good. Yeah, they're really good. Yeah. Coming out of number four, they would have been number three, if not for some bad news that literally came out this morning. Well, we had kind of known that this was potentially heading in this direction for a little while. But yeah, today, Pablo Lopez, apparently going to need season ending elbow surgery.
Starting point is 00:30:30 He was going to be the ace of this Venezuela staff. So team Villasuelo is number four Just to get that out of the way They were going to be number three though But you know they still have Ranger Suarez So like their starting rotation is in okay shape But obviously you lose Pablo Lopez And that's you know
Starting point is 00:30:47 That's a pretty big blow But you know it's a bizardo It's Alvarado in the bullpen It's a pretty good you know One two punch there William Contreras and Salvi as the catchers The infielers Michael Garcia Gino Suarez
Starting point is 00:31:02 Glambert Torres Andreas Jimenez, Wilson Contreras, the outfield is dope. The outfield is super dope. Ronald O'Cunia Jr., Williur, and Jackson Turyo. That is nasty. Yeah, B minus Mariners' outfield.
Starting point is 00:31:19 Luis arises on this roster, Colby. Your favorite? And that's why they cannot win. Yeah, on hell Zerpo is also in the bullpen. It's a pretty solid bullpen, Keeter Montero. Yeah. but yeah obviously the uh the loss of paula lopez stings quite a bit uh coming in number three
Starting point is 00:31:39 the defending champs team japan so tani it's yamamoto you know it's murkami it's okamoto and a bunch of guys we've never heard of and a bunch of guys that we've never heard of that are probably also really good that are saus suzuki is also breakishly good yep yeshita's on this team yeah going to be really good they're probably going to be in the final again and then coming in number two is the dominican republic this team is stacked jesus the one the one kind of issue quote unquote that i have with it is the starting rotation it's christopher sanchise you know as as the ace of the staff which i mean he's fantastic he's amazing and then it's like sandy al contara who i really like but obviously he's struggled over the last couple years sure you know brian be oh it's okay louis severino
Starting point is 00:32:29 okay. It's pretty good location, but yeah, not stacked up to the number one team. Yeah. Catchers, Augustine Ramirez and awesome Wells,
Starting point is 00:32:40 pretty good catching tandem there. It's probably going to be Wells who catches, though. Yankees Legends. Yeah, Yankees Legends. And then the infield is,
Starting point is 00:32:50 too, the infill is ridiculous. This infield is nuts. Junior Caminero, Vladdie Jr., Mani Machado, Cotel Marte, Heraldo, Perdomo, Jeremy Payne, by the way, only four of these guys can start. And then there's like a Med Rosario and Carlos Santana or whatever.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Then in the outfield, Julio, Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr. And then O'Neill Cruz on the bench, along with Yon Ross. But like, Julio Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr. with that infield as well, like that's, that's correct. All those names you listed. And then there's Carlos Santana. He's just going to be the Joanne Howard of this run. Just on the right team at the right time, baby. He's the Garrett Temple of the Dominican Republic roster.
Starting point is 00:33:44 Yeah. And then the quandary digs is probably an actual, like, real accurate. Like, used to be great, but. Yeah. And then the number one, no surprise here. It's team USA. say this team is disgusting it's disgusting how stack they are i look forward to their quarterfinal exit
Starting point is 00:34:03 now they took a little bit of a hit with corvin carroll getting hurt yeah but this team is still just ridiculous just rotation that's all you need dude dude you gotta face terrick scubel and right after that yeah it should be should be cool right nope now you got to face paul skeins i mean that should be cool right no now you got to face Logan Webb which like that that's a pretty steep drop off from Paul Skians but sure logo was really freaking good too like a Rolls Royce to a Mercedes yeah and then it's Joe
Starting point is 00:34:39 Ryan it's Matthew Boyd and then the bullpen is disgusting too it's Mason Miller it's David Bednar it's Griffin Jacks Gabe Spire Brad Keller Garrett Clevenger and Clay Holmes like dude that team is that's And then we haven't even gotten to the position players. Yeah, right. Cal starting catcher with Will Smith as his backup. Alex Bregman in the infield with Bobby Witt Jr. Bryce Harper.
Starting point is 00:35:10 I'm not Bryce Miller, Bryce Harper, Gunter Henderson, Bryce to rang. Like, dude, come on. And then the outfield, Aaron Judge, ever heard of him. Byron Buxton, ever heard of him? Roman Anthony, Pete Crowe Armstrong. Dude, this team is disgusting. It's so good. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:35:29 It's that pitching to me that is the difference. The pitching is nuts. The Dominican lineup might be better. I mean, at the very least, it's comparable, right? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:35:39 the Dominican lineup is better. I'll give them the advantage of them. One through nine, I think it's better. But then that gets neutralized pretty quickly by Terek Skowl and Paul Schoen. Keep in mind, like, they can come out of the bullpen late.
Starting point is 00:35:53 You could stack them against each. So it's like, school gets to his like 65 pitches or whatever it's like all right here comes paul skeins to throw his 65 it'll be absolutely insane to watch japan be one of those two teams in the finals i know i know i know it's probably gonna happen it's probably i mean this isn't the first time team usa's run out of rosary you're like good god like that is and then they lost like they they get to the quarter final and they lose to like Puerto rico who by the way might have been the top five if they hadn't gotten absolutely should.
Starting point is 00:36:28 Mexico is probably still better, but like, they would have been in the conversation, at least. Dark Horse, you got a dark horse for this tournament, because I do. I feel like there's a pretty large gap between number five and the rest of the field. You got to remember,
Starting point is 00:36:45 it's based on the bracket, and it's a pool play. So the top two teams and every pool advance to the quarterfinals. So, yeah. I think Canada, He's got a pretty good roster. Yeah, Canada's got, yeah, I'll say this. Like, there's a couple of teams where I'm like, actually, that's not bad. Like, Italy?
Starting point is 00:37:03 Yeah. It doesn't have a, like, it's not a bad roster. Like, there's a couple of those teams where I'm like, yeah, that's not bad. Like, they're not going to do really much of anything in the tournament, I don't think. But like, I could see Canada or maybe Italy getting to the quarter final, but I just don't see how they beat the U.S. Or the Dominican or Japan. I don't remember what side of the bracket they're all on. but yeah, I don't see them beating the top five teams.
Starting point is 00:37:27 But it's one game of baseball. Anything can happen in one game of baseball. But also, guys, if you want another reason to root for team Canada, as if you need one, am I right? James Paxton is the ace of the Canadian squad. So I mean, yeah, Big Maple is back for probably one night only. Yeah, no, no, this is definitely his swan song. I mean, he was inducted into the Canadian baseball hall of fame like a month ago.
Starting point is 00:37:56 I really hope that he pitches the game that's on TV. Yeah. Because I want to watch James Paxson throw one more time. Yeah. Yeah. That's going to be that's going to be fun. Yeah, Philippe Almont is also on that roster, which is great. Abraham Toro.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Abraham Toro is on the roster. Yeah. Abraham Toro is on the roster. Obviously, Josh Naylor is on the roster with his brother. Just Mariner Legends all over the place on this Canadian team. Tyler O'Neill. Tyler O'Neill, Philippe, Abraham Toro, and James Paxton and Josh Naylor. Like, I mean, show me Tyson Gillies.
Starting point is 00:38:35 Adam Macco. Adam Maco. Boom, another one. Yeah, yeah. This team is like, you know, the Jack Serenic lottery. Yeah, so, yeah, there's a couple of, like, fun rosters, like the, you know, the, the, the deeper you you kind of dig but yeah there's it's pretty clear like the top five and then pretty large gap and then everyone else what are you top two i mean yeah yeah yeah yeah there's number
Starting point is 00:39:05 three gap yeah yeah and then there's four gap and then there's five yeah yeah like there's definitely like the s tier is definitely the u.s and the dominican and i feel like you almost have to put japan up there just out of respect because they win it every single time. Well, look, they have Yamamoto and Otani on the, on the club. And then like, say a Suzuki on top of that. You know, they're going to make contact. You know, they got some pop. You know, they're going to play really good defense.
Starting point is 00:39:36 You know, their pitching's going to be disgusting. Like, Japan is just very good. Their player development system that they have over there is just top notch. So, yeah, yeah. They're always a threat. In fact, they're probably the favorite. just by default. But roster talent wise, like, yeah, the U.S. and the
Starting point is 00:39:54 Dominican. So, yeah, they're just, I need to see those two teams play each other. All right. That's going to do it for our show.
