Jerry Depoto has expressed confidence in getting an extension or two done with a couple current Mariners.
But who could that be? When might it happen? We'll discuss coming up here on the Lockdown Marrars podcast. Colby hit it.
You are Locked on Mariners. Your daily Seattle Mariners podcast. Part of the Locked on podcast network. Your team every day.
Ahoy, Sailors. It is Monday, March 23rd, 2026. My name is Taddy Gazzalas and I'm joined as always by my host, Colby Patnode.
Today's episode is brought to you by MLB The Show 26.
Visit MLBTHe.

Available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Ritted E for everyone.
And today we're going to open up the mailbag and answer some of your Marries questions.
We'll also go over the round four results of our top 50 Marries Moments Tournament
and kick off round five, the final four.
Let's start here with a question from J.B.
who wants to know, Jerry DePoto came out and said they are working on multiple extensions.
Which players do you think he is working on?
So yeah, Jerry was on MLB Network Radio yesterday and was asked about extensions and said that it's probably unlikely that something happens before opening day, but did say, quote, the likelihood of us doing something long term with one or more of our players is pretty high.
So I think it's safe to assume that one of those guys is Logan Gilbert.
but outside of Logan, who else do you think the mayors might be working on here?
Yeah.
You know, we've talked about other extension candidates quite a bit over the last, you know,
a couple weeks slash months.
It's a pretty popular topic.
So, you know, we've discussed our, we discussed our thoughts on, on George Kirby a little bit
and why we don't think that's going to be a likely extension candidate.
it. So I'm going to assume it's not him. Brian Wu could be an interesting kind of sleeper here because
he has four years from free agency, but he does have that, you know, long track record of injury.
And so there's a possibility here that Seattle might be able to buy out multiple years of free agency at a,
you know, drastically reduced cost. And so that's something that's going to be appealing to them.
But there's not a lot of urgency to get that done because he's four years from free agency.
And, you know, Bryce Miller prior to last year, did.
didn't have any of these injury concerns.
But, you know, we saw what happened to him last year, and this year he's already on the IL,
and he's four years away from free agency, too.
So, you know, I don't think they feel a tremendous amount of rush to get that done unless
they're going to get a bargain on Bryce.
And for that reason, I don't think Bryce is going to reciprocate those talks.
So, you know, when you move out off of the rotation a little bit there, you know, the pending
free agents, J.P. Crawford, probably not.
Emerson's the guy.
So Crawford's not going to be an extension candidate, I wouldn't think.
And Randy or Rosarena, probably not either, although that would be funny.
But it's certainly not likely.
Could you imagine, though, after how the last month has gone,
they announced, hey, we've signed Randy or Rosaranda to like a three-year extension?
Yeah.
I don't know how much Randy likes Seattle.
So, like, I'd be very surprised by that.
But, yeah, again, it'd be funny.
So you kind of move down the list there. Donovan is probably going to be a popular name, but he hasn't played a game for you, not a game that's mattered anyways. And you know, you don't know how he's going to hit a Team Mobile Park. You don't know how he doesn't know how he's going to like the city and how he's going to like, you know, playing for the franchise and all that. So I can't imagine he's too keen to sign an extension right now either. So I really don't think it's Donovan. Then you kind of look around at the other position players, pretty much everybody else is either locked in or their short.
term guys. And so you really do have to go look at the Colt Emerson and the Cole Youngs,
who the Mariners do see as part of their future. And obviously, you know, the Mariners do try to
get these things done with their young players. Sometimes they get it done with like Evan White
and J.P. Crawford. Sometimes they don't like Jared Kelnick, which, you know, worked out pretty well
for the Mariners, I'd say. But they do try. And so I wouldn't be shocked at all if they've talked to
Emerson about this, that talked to Cole Young about this as well.
So I do think, you know, we talked about the, oh, the, the Tiger's second baseman.
We talked about that comp.
What's his name?
Cole Keith.
Yes, we talked about Keith and his contract for Emerson.
That might be a comp for Cole Young as well.
That could work for either one of them.
So, yeah, maybe it's one of the young middle infielders.
maybe there's like a deep like guess here maybe it's Ryan Sloan maybe it's it's you know hey Ryan
you want 10 years and you know 90 million right now or whatever right or maybe it's it's
eight years and then there's player options and team options and all that but I doubt it so
I think it's Gilbert and then I'm I'm going to say it's probably young
or Emerson.
And then I think Wu is is a possibility, but not likely.
And then everybody else I would just put as just not likely or too early to engage in extension talks.
So yeah, I think Gilbert's for sure the number one guy.
They're trying to get done right now, though.
All right.
Next question here from Mariners fan 22 is Garver over Kisner, the right decider,
the right decision, I assume you mean?
Any other surprises that made the roster?
I think it's a good thing seeing them go with Garver over Kisner because it's them saying,
hey, we think we're a better team with Mitch Garber than Andrew Kisner.
And even if it's, you know, a slight upgrade in our minds,
we're willing to pay the extra couple million dollars to get slightly better.
Sure.
This is like the one competition in camp that actually existed.
And we've never cared who they picked because to me they're interchangeable.
They pick Kisner.
I wouldn't be like, oh, they're cheap.
They didn't want to spend the extra $2 million.
Let's be clear about this.
Kisner nor Garber.
I've had a particularly good camp, at least at the plate.
Although, hilariously, Garber, you know, had a home run last night and another
RBI.
So, yeah.
So whatever.
But, yeah, I mean, again, is that surprising?
No, because as we talked about, Garber knows the rotation.
He's very comfortable in the clubhouse.
And he's got track record in the clubhouse and he works well with Cal.
And so, no, that's none of that's really that surprising.
Um, so there's more of a reason to think that you could actually get something out of the bat and that your backup catcher spot not might not be as much of a black hole as maybe, you know, most backup catcher spots are.
But that's all he is.
I mean, he's not even like, uh, like last year he was the backup catcher slash DH against, you know, left handed pitching.
He's not that this year.
Yeah.
Uh, you know, at least not to start. Um, so yeah, yeah, it, it was an interesting decision.
that they'd go to Kisner just because, you know, he's younger.
There's probably more upside there.
Also defensively, he's just better.
But, you know, again, the Mariners ask a lot from their catchers.
They're handling a very, you know, good pitching staff.
And obviously the familiarity with the pitching staff and all that probably weighed pretty heavily on their decision here.
We'll see, I mean, I suppose it is technically possible they could carry Kisner into the regular season and have three catchers because they do have a bench spot open still because J.P's
probably starting the year on the IL.
But it sure seems like they've made up their mind what to do with that spot.
I don't know we have a question on that.
I guess it is part of this question.
Yeah,
is the other surprises.
Yeah.
So it seems like Ryan Bliss is going to make the roster,
which,
all right,
fine.
But like,
you know,
like I said a couple weeks ago when we were talking about like
why I didn't think Bliss even had a shot of making the roster,
you better be willing to play him a fair amount.
It just,
it does.
For who?
it does him a disservice to just shelf him for most of the time that jp is out given how little he
how much do you play last year like 12 games total between the majors and triple a because like jp
what they're saying at least is that jp just didn't have enough build up to play in the regular
season you know it's not that the injury is going to prevent him from playing the regular season
is that the injury prevented him from having a normal spring training and therefore you know
he needs more time to get ready and i'm pretty sure jp
has as many at bats as Ryan Bliss because Bliss missed like two weeks of, you know, the of the
Cactus League.
So yeah.
It's kind of weird there.
I do wonder if we're going to, if we're going to see Cole Young at shortstop and Ryan Bliss at
second base for a good chunk of however long the stretch is going to be without JP.
I think that's a fair possibility.
Young got a couple starts at shortstop, you know, over the last week or so.
Revas, at one point, Rebos entered the game for Cole Young, who was playing at shortstop,
but then they moved Revis to second, they had Ryan Bliss play shortstop, which, what?
So it does seem like Ryan Bliss is going to make the opening day roster.
I mean, A, that's cool because I like Ryan Bliss.
He seems like an awesome dude, and he's a fun player.
He's certainly got some great raw power, and he's a good base runner and all that, good athlete.
But like you said, like, this guy needs to play.
He needs to get his baseball legs back under him.
And he's not going to do that.
You know, the best spot to do that is not facing Cam Schlittler and Tanner Bybee.
And he needs to go down to AAA and get his, you know, get his feet wet and get his legs back under him and, you know, play four or five times a week and slow build into this thing.
And the Mariners, they have a, they have a veteran who could do what, you know, Bliss is doing, going to do for you for a couple weeks.
And you don't care if he gets at bats or not.
and Will Wilson and they just for now at least it seems like it's going to be Ryan Bliss and
everything how they've managed the last couple games should make you think that Ryan Bliss is
going to be on this roster and that's weird to me the the Kisner or the Garber over Kisner thing
a little weird I get it though I mean it's not that hard to understand why the Bliss thing again
I'm not upset about it it's just it's weird it's just a little weird to me that they would go
that route when they have I mean I guess unless JP is going to miss like six weeks
weeks, but if he was going to do that, wouldn't it be Colt Emerson then at that point?
Like, I don't know what the cutoff line is.
So when he does start, you're taking at bats away from Cole Young, who you kind of are
basing a lot of your, your build on him.
It's probably more so Rivas, right?
Yeah, but you're taking a bat's away from Rivas, who's going to be your utility player once
JP comes back.
That seems like a guy who, this is a great opportunity to get him as many at bats as you
can so that when you do move him to a bench roll, he's seen a lot of pitches and, you know,
he could get into that flow.
So, again, it's not.
I'm not complaining.
I'm not upset about any of it.
It just,
unless they think Bliss could be better than Rivas.
I mean,
it was pretty clear over the course of 2025.
They didn't like Leo Rivas that much.
They didn't bring him back up until September.
Yeah.
But they liked him enough to not go get a serious utility player
when they could have had one for like two million bucks.
So,
yeah,
uh,
I mean,
Renhifo and,
I don't know.
It's,
it's strange.
because I feel like you only put
Bliss on the roster if you plan on playing him.
So this tells me they plan on playing him
and if they're not planning on playing him,
then what's the point of this?
Then just have Will Wilson on the roster.
It's entirely possible that they know Ryan Bliss is nothing for them
long term anyway, so they don't care.
They're just whatever.
Yeah, maybe maybe he's on that bucket.
I don't know.
Yeah, maybe he's on the 40-man fodder territory
and they're just like, yeah, whatever.
we'll ride the power speed upside for a couple weeks and then we don't really care about
his development because he's not a laundrom asset for us.
So maybe that's it.
I don't know.
Like I said, just just odd.
Just a little bit odd more so than upsetting or anything like that.
But it's just a little weird.
Just a little like, okay.
Not what I would have done.
But no.
Yeah.
Surprising.
All right.
We'll answer more of your questions in just a moment.

Let's get back into your questions here on Mailbag Monday.
PR wants to know what direct TV channel is Mariners TV on in the Seattle area?
We don't know.
And we're probably not going to know until the morning of opening day.
Yeah, which is super unfortunate.
So, you know, for those of you that might not be as in the loop as maybe we are on stuff like this,
Major League Baseball now is operating everything for the Marers broadcast.
And so even the Marrars don't know what's going on.
They don't know what channel the Marys TV is going to be on for Comcast, for DirecTV, for what have you.
They're not negotiating these deals.
Yeah, Ryan Divich has written a lengthy article about this over on the Seattle Times.
I'll link that in the description of this episode so you guys can check that out because that has all the information.
that you need to know right now
and all the information that's just available.
But a quick explanation of this is that
the way that I understand it is that if you had Roots Sports last year
on your TV plan,
and as long as you haven't changed your TV plan
and the specific package that you have,
you will get Mariners TV.
We just don't know what channel that's going to be on,
whether it's, again, DirecTV, Comcast, what have you.
Again, we'll probably find out more,
of opening day. That seems to be the, the consensus right now. And so you'll last year with the Padres.
So you'll just have to, you'll have to keep an eye on the Mariners socials. I'm sure they'll make
an announcement. They'll tell you which. If you're signed up on or email. Yeah. And, and they'll probably
let you know what, what channel it's going to be on on your, your TV provider. I don't think, again,
just kind of reading between the lines and all this. I don't think you're going to have to upgrade your
TV package. I think it's just whatever you, if you,
you had access to route you should have access to maris tv but we'll see you know you never know
with major league baseball so we'll we'll just all kind of have to find out together on on thursday morning
all right seesaw effect wants to know rank these three by most to least likely cal hits the same
or more home runs than he did in 2025 nailer steals the same or more amount of bags than he did
in 2025 and dominant can zone has the same or higher ops plus than he did in 2025 reverse the order
321. That's the likelihood.
I think I'm going
Naylor 1, Dom 2,
Cal 3.
Sounds like somebody's a Dominic Canzone
suppress a person over there.
That's right.
Might be a little hint into
something we're going to do tomorrow. I don't know.
Play it.
Not not yet. Not yet. Not yet.
We'll get there. We'll get there.
We'll get there.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean,
I could buy that. I mean,
easily the dead last option is Cal hitting 60 again.
Like that's not going to happen.
Again, seven,
seven players have done it all the time.
Yeah.
Cal's not going to do that again.
So that's easily number three.
And then the other two, like, yeah, I think,
I mean, if you watch him in the Cactus League,
Nailor looks like he wants to steal 70 this year.
So maybe he gets to 30 again.
I think that's certainly possible.
I don't think it's likely, but it's possible.
Should I put Josh Naylor 50 stolen base season on my bold predictions?
Josh Naylor, bold predictions.
Josh Naylor leads the American League in stolen bases.
That's a good one right there.
I mean, this is not hashtag gambling advice, but maybe there's a prop out there.
That might be a good one to throw 10 bucks down on because I imagine the odds are quite good in your favor.
Please gamble responsibly.
So, yeah, it's possible, but I don't know.
What was Canzone?
OPS Plus is what we're going with?
I know it was WRC plus was like a, what,
it was 140.
It was 141.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean,
I don't think any of these are,
are that likely to happen.
But I guess if I had to rank them in likelihood that they happen,
OPS plus was 142.
So basically they're within a point or two of each other.
So,
yeah,
yeah.
Yeah,
I guess if I had to rank these in likelihood,
I'd still go Canzone one,
Naler 2,
huge gap,
Cal Raleigh,
three.
Yeah.
But I think one and two are pretty interchangeable.
All right.
Well, we are into the final four of our top 50 Mariners Moments tournament.
Who moved on from the Elite A.

We are finally into the final four of our top 50 Mariners Moments tournament.
I'm looking at the matchups or the final four right here.
But how do we get here, Chloe?
Let's start there.
How did the matchups in round four shake out?
There may have been some fishy things going on here.
Yeah.
Because, Ty, we had more votes in this round than we did.
in round one.
There was over a thousand votes cast.
At various points,
there would be a almost drop on what,
Friday or Saturday, I told Ty.
Yeah.
In a one hour stretch,
we had like 110 votes cast.
And like 90% of them,
95% of them went to like Jorge Polanco
and his walk off.
and it's just like for a matchup that was 50 50.
And all of a sudden it's just that's a little fishy.
Again, I don't care that much because whatever.
But that's a little fishy.
But at the end of the day, with over a thousand votes cast,
2014, we do have our final four matchup in a surprise to no one.
The double beat Edgar's induction in the Hall of Fame 9010.
So again, you guys only care about Edgar.
when the accomplishment impacts you,
not when it's an accomplishment that he earned for himself,
but whatever.
Seems a little selfish, but what are you going to do?
Cal ends the drought.
That defeated the first of the original drought ender,
the 95 AOS championship.
In pretty commanding fashion, 8317,
they will face off against, again,
in another commanding performance,
Felix's perfect game.
garnered 86% of the vote over the comeback win in Toronto.
So in one round of our final four,
we have the drought ender,
the rainmaker,
Cowellie's walk-off homeward and the drought versus Felix's perfect game.
I mean, Felix's perfect game, man.
That seems to be riding high right now.
So we'll see.
And then obviously,
Edgar's double will face by a grand total of four votes,
Gino's Grand Slam
Edge is out
Polo single
50.2 to 49.8
4 vote difference
out of over
let's see
1,014 votes
4 votes made the difference
so it'll be Gino's slam
versus the double
So did you did you mention that after
we got that huge swing of votes
in Polo's direction that we then got a
huge swing of votes in Gino's
We did
Yeah
very weird
very strange yes it's almost like there were two competing bots going at each other
yeah but i don't know how they knew the result was close enough or whatever because if some
if one or two of you actually went the distance of making bots to vote on this thing
i don't even know what's said of that you should probably get some professional help
like maybe like get some else jumping off in your life
You seem a little too bored.
You should probably, you know, seek professional opinions on that.
But I did happen to snap this photo last night before I went to bed because I thought there'd be some overnight votes.
And I wasn't sure how this is going to go.
But with 992 respondents, as of last night, we had a straight 50-50 tie.
So.
Yes.
This final 16 votes apparently broke, well, no, not 16, the final 22 votes apparently broke with a four vote advantage to Gino.
And that is what made the difference.
So, yeah, 22 votes.
So that would be what 13 to 9 went to Gino.
And that was the difference.
And that is now three, every round, we've had a match up be decided by about one or two percent or less.
which is insane.
And I think we might have another one coming up here.
We have the double versus Genos Grand Slam,
but we also have the rain,
the rainmaker versus the perfect game.
Yeah.
That could go.
Yeah.
The,
I think the double wins.
I do too,
although again,
one in the ALDS,
one in the ALCS.
Sure,
but it's still the,
it's like the iconish.
Yeah,
yeah.
It involves Edgar and Griffey,
The next 50-50 matchup, though, is pretty clearly the drawdowner versus Felix's perfect game.
Individual accomplishment versus like the second biggest hit in franchise history.
Yeah.
I mean, there's been like 25 perfect games.
How many walk-off home runs have been hit to send the Seattle marriage to the playoffs for the first time in 21 years?
The answer is one.
So.
Yeah, it's.
It's Cal versus Felix.
Again, it's team.
accomplishment versus individual accomplishment
like it's
who are you picking here
I was at the drought ending game
like I saw the home run with my own eyes
so it's kind of tough to not pick that
and plus again I'm more of a team guy
versus an individual guy
so I'm going to go with
Calends the drought
I think there's an outside chance
this is like a 6535 matchup though
people love Felix Hernandez
so they do they do
I mean, we're to the point now where, you know, Pat's on back for us.
The one through four seed all made it to the final four.
So we know our audience, barely, barely by four votes, we know.
Our audience might also consist of some bots.
But yeah, it's, it'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
But I think I'd vote for the double still.
I think that one should be closer than it's going to be.
Yeah.
I mean, if they had won the ALCS or they'd won after that Grand Slam,
then that would be, I mean, well, what they did in the World Series would be the number one seed and all that.
So, you know, but yeah, and that probably would have made it closer.
But yeah, the Felix versus Cal, I mean, undoubtedly, two of the top four or five moments of franchise history and two of the most beloved players in franchise history.
So we'll see how it goes.
but I would vote for Cal, but yeah, it's hard to blame anybody voting for Felix in that regard as well.
There have only been a couple of moments in sports that have maybe shed real tears.
And only one of them is on this list here.
So I think I'm taking that.
Carol being fired.
