And today is our bold predictions episode for the 2026 Mariners season.
We'll also quickly go over how the marons might construct their lineup against lefties and righties out of the gate.
But we're going to start with our bold predictions.
So I have seven, and I believe last time I checked, Colby, that you also have seven.
So we're going to go back and forth here over the next two segments.
and see how on hinged we can get.
You want to kick us off?
Sure, but I feel like we should point out
that bold predictions aren't actual like predictions.
We will make Mariners predictions next week.
Team awards, team MVP, team Syung, all that stuff.
Yeah, how many all-star, blah, blah, blah, right?
If you've been around here for the last couple of seasons
and ramping up for the regular season, you know how this works.
You know we always do a bold predictions episode
and then like an actual like normal regular predictions episode.
Right. So we have bold predictions and then we have like predictions of what we think will happen.
Bold predictions are more like, you know, I'm just kind of throwing this out at the wall and see if I'm going to be right in a couple months.
Yeah, let's get weird with it.
Yeah. I mean, so I kind of went on a sliding scale, so to speak, of like not that weird versus like that's kind of insane type of stuff.
So we'll start with a more tame one and unfortunately we'll start with a bad one.
But I think, yeah, all the rest of mine are pretty good.
like in terms of like positive.
You did a bad one?
I mean, why am I surprised?
Yeah.
Yeah, of course I did.
I didn't do any bad ones.
No, I mean, that's because you're not a realist.
You know, bold prediction things.
So I just said you have to be very realistic with your bold predictions.
Yes, I have Victor Robles getting DFA'd by May 15th as my first and my mildest.
Wow.
What a way to start.
Yeah.
That dude can't hit.
Like, let's just call it.
is he can't hit.
We'll always have 20-24 Victor, and that was a lot of fun,
and it's a shame he couldn't get into the playoffs of 24 Victor and 24 JP.
But you didn't, and he just hasn't looked anywhere close to the same sense.
And honestly, he never looked close to the same before that two-month stretch.
So, yeah, I think the mayors are going to be in the market for a new right-handed hitting fourth outfield type pretty early in the season.
so yeah
Victor he's not making it to
Memorial Day
so yeah
sucks but you know
so does Victor swing right now so
well aren't you just
a ray of sunshine to start this episode
I started there and then we're going to build
I've got some fun stuff
my first bold prediction this guy sucks
he's going to lose his job
I mean I don't even think that's that bold
to be honest
looking at the numbers and watching the guy play for the last year.
All right.
He's having a bang up spring too, by the way.
All right.
Where do I want to start?
Let me start with the most vague one.
J.P. Crawford finishes his time in Seattle and submits his legacy in Seattle with the biggest hit of the season.
now could that take them to the world series could that win them the world series who knows but after
so many people have spent all offseason trying to figure out how to get rid of jp and move on
from jp as quickly as possible jp is going to have the moment that we all think back on 2026 and
remember first so your bold prediction is the best high leverage hit on the team as a high leverage hit
cool yeah real bold there today jp has
he has the Gino
grand slam the
Jorge Polanco walk off
like he has that moment of
both of them wow that's sure
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
he can be his own 50-50 matchup
and you know
well this off season's bracket because
again with the lockout I hope you guys like brackets
I hope you guys are ready for the top 51
Merrin's moments tournament
yes I've always been a big bracket over
parentheses guy grammar job
so is that it?
Is that your lame first prediction?
Sure, sure.
I figured that one was the best one to start off with because it was so vague.
Okay.
Yeah, it's pretty vague, but that's fine.
Mine get pretty specific.
We're going to get very specific soon.
Including a couple that come with exact dates.
Wow.
Yeah, yeah.
But anyways, my next up on my list is a little spicier,
a little bit more bold.
Brennan Donovan is going to steal 20 bases this year for the Mariners.
All right.
Well, I guess I might as well say my next one.
I had Brennan Donovan doubles his career high in steals, which would be 10.
So you're doubling that.
No, so yeah, so yeah, 20 steals.
Yep.
Vernon, 20 steals.
He's not a burner by any stretch, but the Mariners are aggressive on the bases.
And obviously with Eric Young Jr., does a great job over there at first base.
And we know that Donovan.
is a smart baseball player.
And if Josh Naylor can do it, Donovan can do it as well.
Now, there's kind of that whole thing if it's like, well, I'm painting to get on first
so that Cal and Julio can drive you in, not get thrown out at second.
So we'll see just how aggressive he wants to be.
And, you know, Nailor's probably just a better base runner in general than Donovan.
So even though Donovan's faster, it doesn't necessarily mean he's a better base dealer.
But, yeah, I just think the Mariners are going to be pretty aggressive on the bases this year.
I think they're going to have to be to make up for some of the probable loss of home runs.
And again, you know, this is a team that is not afraid to put guys in motion.
I mean, Cal Raleigh had like, what, nine steals last year, 10 steals.
Obviously, Nailor had like 22 with the team, or however many it was.
So, yeah, I think that I think Donovan's going to add some stolen bases to his arsenal.
But I don't think he's going to necessarily be great at it.
I don't think he's going to go 20 for 22 or anything like that.
But I think he'll run a little bit.
And I think he'll get pretty darn close to 20 if not 20 exactly.
And yeah, I just, I think might set a new career high in home runs too.
Maybe.
I don't know.
I didn't put that on my list.
But yeah.
What would that be for him?
15?
Like, yeah, 15.
Yeah.
So I will not predict he's going to double that.
But I will say that he could, you know.
Yeah, 15 exactly would be
Yeah, would be a career high for him.
So, yeah, and then 10 stolen bases would be
would be double his career high.
Yeah.
So I don't know, 20-20,
Bernie Donovan season?
I don't know.
Could be fun.
All right.
You want to do another one since I already technically did my second one?
Sure.
I'm going to go with a Julio one.
O'O goes 40-40.
So I had that.
on my list and then I was like Colby
Tolly has that on his list. So I took it
off and I was right. So there you go.
Julio goes 4040.
You know, you went 30 30
last year.
He's got 30 30 twice, right?
20, 30 year.
I believe he also.
Believe his rookie year.
Yeah. Okay.
Yeah. I think he gets to
4040.
Now there is kind of a timeline here where
2020. 23 year, right.
Yeah.
There's kind of a timeline.
here where it's like Julio's going to stop trying to steal as many bases because it's just not
going to be worth the potential injury risk to keep him running like Mike Trout back in the day
where he would just steal a ton of bags and then finally it was like year five or six he just stopped.
He's like, nope, we're not even going to risk this.
Now, Julio hasn't had the injuries that Trout has.
So there's no reason to think he's going to stop running this year.
But yeah, I just, I feel like, you know, we've already seen him get to 30, 30.
That's really not that far of a stretch to see him get to 40-40.
It's just when you look at the totality of players in baseball who have done it,
it's such a small number that it is.
It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to get an additional 10 home runs and
additional 10 steals.
I mean, heck, if he's just above average in the first half alone, he probably gets there
because the last two times you got to 30-30, he had a really slow first half.
But yeah, I think this is the year.
I think this is the breakout year for Julio breakout.
Like he's not a Hall of Fame trajectory player right now.
I think it's the next step,
Julio season, essentially.
It's the season that, like,
everybody thinks Julio is capable of.
It's the MVP type of season.
Now, again, these are bold predictions.
So am I saying Julio is definitely getting to 40-40?
I don't think I'm falling for that trap again,
where it's like,
this is the breakout for Julio.
But in a bold predictions, you know,
segment, like,
this is kind of the perfect one
because this is historically,
extremely difficult to attain.
And Julio is very much capable of doing it.
And he's one of the only guys in baseball
that's capable of doing it.
it right now. Yeah, I'm going to stop like fully like seriously predicting that kind of season for
Julio going into the year. But we should definitely acknowledge the possibility of it every single
year because absolutely could happen 100%. He gets off to a hot start. Absolutely. That's the tone for
him potentially doing that. All right. My third one here,
I don't know how much I actually believe this, but screw it. We're going to do it. The
mayor is lead the league in ABS challenges one.
I think Cal is going to be a huge.
I think Cal is going to be a huge part of that.
The part where it could get a little messy is on the hitter side of things.
I'm not really sure who exactly I trust in the lineup from an offensive standpoint to do it.
I would think that you would really want to save those for the pitching side.
Yeah, it's just kind of one of those things where it's like, yeah, Cal will probably be great at it.
I think the Mariners have like an 80% win rate right now in spring training.
70 to 80% win rate.
And like the major league average or well,
the average last year in the miners in AAA was 50,
like 51% over like.
So it's usually a 50,
50 coin flip, but the Mariners have already,
well, at least so far they've,
they've handled it pretty well.
And keep in mind, that's,
Cal hasn't really been challenging many of these.
He's been away for, you know,
the last two and a half weeks.
You may not notice that because, you know,
he only played in three games in those two and a half weeks.
I'm sure that's done.
wonders for a swing but you know they seem to have something figured out
you're all right on that double so yeah the other four out bats
not not not too good but you know whatever colby buying into the one game sample says
no I'm buying into the idea that cow's going to get off to a slow start because like you say
often all right we can't discount not getting enough reps in spring training and sometimes
you don't get enough rest the bold prediction right now make the bold prediction right
That's not my bold prediction list.
Cal Raleigh, worst catcher in baseball.
That's clearly what you're saying.
No, that is not what I'm saying.
By the way, you know what is not a bold prediction for all you people who are going to leave it in the comments,
saying Cal is going to regress to hitting 40 home runs.
That's not a bold prediction at all.
That's just standard.
I think we're going to, I think we're actually going to see the opposite of that.
I think we're going to see a lot of people that are like Cal hits 60 again.
Cal actually hit 70.
Sure.
But anyways, yeah, Julio goes 40-40.
And yeah, the ABS thing.
Yeah, I think that's fair.
Well, I mean, they already made fun of George Kirby for a terrible challenge.
I don't know if you heard that story.
They gave them a trophy.
Yeah.
Worst challenge.
I didn't see they give them a trophy for it.
They gave him a trophy worst challenge at the Cactus League.
That's crazy work.
They had the plaque put like upside down on on the trophy.
Like it was a literal trophy.
That's awesome.
Orler apparently drove to a trophy shop in in the Phoenix area and had them make it for him.
it's so funny too because like
I think I think it was pitching
Ninja when he was down there at Mariners Camp he asked everyone
he was like who do you not trust
to use the ABS system and everyone said
George and then low and bold
it's interesting too
because like
the seeming like strategy is like
Cal will do all the challenge pitchers are not
allowed to challenge yeah
I wonder if anyone will go rogue
oh George George will 100%
go rogue
absolutely
that
That trophy will only make him want to do it more.
Like he might do it just, he might just like,
He's got a chip on his shoulder this year.
He's going to waste too early in a start on pitches that aren't even close
just to prove a point.
Be like, I don't even need that.
So, yeah, take that, Mariners.
But yeah, the ABS will be a net positive for the Mariners.
All right, we'll go over the remainder of our bold predictions in just a moment.

And that's starting to wind down here.
Colby, how's that all looking right now?
Yeah, three blowouts and one 50-50 matchup, as has been the case in every single round.
There's been one matchup, at least in every round, that has been decided by about a percent, one percent.
or less. So crazy.
And right now we have 580 responses.
So already, you know, tracking very well here compared to the last two rounds.
And yeah, right now we have, I can tell you guys who's winning.
But the 4-5 matchup, Gino's Grand Slam versus Polo's walkoff is decided by 0.6% right now.
So still very much go either way.
by the way, when I checked, I checked a couple hours ago when I got up this morning.
And the side that's winning now was down 2%.
So there's been a wild swing.
And that's not uncommon, by the way.
Like I see 51.5 to like 48.5 regularly.
And then I'll check back in in a couple hours and it will swung the other direction.
So I don't know if there's a bot out there, just, you know, filling in ballots for one side.
and then they'll, oh, that'll be enough.
And then I don't know.
But yeah, it's pretty crazy.
Someone has taken this so seriously that they coded a bot.
I mean, I don't know.
It's weird because the swings happen like every couple of hours.
It's very weird.
But, yeah, as far as I can tell, one of these matchups is up by three votes.
So that's the difference right now.
That's crazy.
So we'll see.
All right.
Get to voting.
Link in the district.
description all you have to do click the link check off the boxes it submit that's all you got to do
all right so let's get back into these bold predictions here colby so we've gone over three each we both
have four each left what's your next one yeah so i've got one here that is uh we're starting to climb up
in the spiciness meter you know if the first couple were like a two or a three i think we're in
you know five territory now and then i think we're going to jump to like seven eight here
pretty quick. So, uh, buckle up. But on the 28th of July, the Seattle Mariners are going to acquire
Cade Smith from the Cleveland Guardians. Dude, you have that too? Yeah. What the hell?
Did you come up with the cost? There were so many guys that we could potentially do like a trade
prediction for. How do we both land on Kate Smith? Like I have another one. I mean like I get it. Like,
you know, they tried to trade for Duran last year.
Like, I mean, that was the reason.
Yeah, I didn't come up with a cost, though.
I was like, I was going to be like, I was going to be like, well, you know,
Farmello and you're going to have to probably say bye by by to like Kate or Sloan.
I was, I was going to be like, yeah, maybe it's like Farmello and Lazz and like Hugis or something like that.
But maybe, yeah, depending on the years.
Cleveland sometimes does bulk and all that.
Yeah.
But, yeah, Kate Smith.
what date did you have then oh you didn't have i didn't have a date so i'll give you the win on this one
boom by the way i have another trade uh coming up later that is not connected to this one so don't
think i'm predicting the whole deadline here but yeah i don't i don't have any other uh trades on my list
so that's good yeah that's good but yeah kate smith we know that the the mariners really want to add
that like elite bullpen arm they tried last year with deron they thought they had a deal done uh to make
the wrong thing happened and it just, you know, last second.
And they had to pivot to Caleb Ferguson.
That did not work.
And as a result, their bullpen was exhausted and gassed by the time they needed it the most.
And I think they've maybe learned their lesson.
They're going to be super aggressive.
And it may not be Kave Smith, but I was looking for a team that might be mediocre,
a team that would be willing to sell.
And a team that had, you know, high leverage relief arm.
And Kate Smith was the one that just made the most sense.
And I was throwing a Kate Smith and Stephen Quantre.
but I thought it's like ah
Sam Sam yeah so I also
considered Abner you Rebe
and
and McGill but I was like that's not as exciting as Kate Smith
No but I mean like I think the idea here is the bold
predict the Mariners trade for like a legit bullpen daddy
At the death I mean like a really
Rebe would be
Irrebe would be very very cool like don't even remember but I was like
Miguel too but like McGill too but like McGill's not like a super like
bold prediction
type of like oh my god they're going to trade for Trevor Miguel it's like oh yeah they're going
to trade for Trevor Miguel yeah I mean again in reality they probably go a step below that
because I don't think they're going to give up the Mason Miller package which might be what it takes
to get Kate Anderson to get Kate Smith so yeah uh probably a step below that but yeah I was
thinking who's the biggest you know baddest bullpen arm they could reasonably acquire yeah
and there's like probably Kate Smith is probably the guy most likely to to check all
those boxes.
Yeah.
It's so funny.
I mean, maybe we have another.
This is what we get for not swapping bold predictions before it.
So maybe we have another similar one or something.
All right.
Well, because I already did my fourth one.
You got another one?
Sure.
I'm trying to decide which one of these.
I'm trying to decide which one of these is spicier.
Okay.
I'm going to go with.
Kate Anderson
who produces more war this year
than Colt Emerson
okay
that's not super spicy
I think the idea is
that Kate only gets up in like October
or whatever September October
and obviously Emerson has to be up before
May because like J.P.
Crawford's a scrub. Am I right people?
So like yeah.
I don't know. I just I just kind of feel like
you know, Cade is only going to make like, I don't know, five to eight starts or something like that.
And he's just going to put up a win and a half.
And Emerson at 20 years old is just going to be like, okay, he'll flash.
And you'll be like, okay, yeah, no, you can definitely see it.
But he's 20 years old.
And he's facing major league pitching.
So I just feel like the, like I think when you look at our poll that we did, like which young player, blah, blah, blah.
Like Emerson outpaced Anderson by a mile.
and I just kind of think like you know Anderson even with significantly fewer you know
opportunities at least on paper he probably can provide more value than Colt Emerson so that's
why I went with that one all right well I'm going to go I don't know which one should I do
because all these are like relatively in the same well no there's one that kind of sticks out here
so let's go with that one Josh Naylor is going to successfully steal home at some point this
I like it.
Yeah. I like it. Okay.
He's going to catch a pitcher sleeping.
You know, maybe there's like,
maybe there's like a questionable call.
Pitchers moping around on the mound, whatever,
not really paying attention. He just takes off.
Catcher lobs the ball back to the pitcher and like,
yeah, he just takes off.
When's the last time we saw a mariner steal, like straight up stole?
like I know they did the double steal a couple.
Julio stole home technically, but it was the play where you try and swipe second
and then you wait for the throw to go down.
And so it's like that's a steal of home.
But like, how about a straight steel of home?
I don't remember any Mariner ever doing that.
I'm sure it's happened.
Why don't I want to say like Malick Smith?
Oh, maybe.
Maybe on like a throwback to the pitcher or something like that.
I don't know.
I feel like I vaguely like have this like memory of.
Yeah, I think so too now that I'm thinking about it.
I think it was like in Oakland.
But I don't know.
You guys let us sell.
Yeah, you guys know.
again we're talking about like a real not a not a first and third play yeah yeah yeah like a straight
steel of home or like either they take off in the wind up or it's like the law back to the not a pass ball not
you know again not a first and third not an attempted back pick just a straight steel of home i can't
think of any um although there is some vague recollection of like mallex doing it in oakland or something
like that so maybe maybe maybe malix tried it and he got thrown out i don't maybe that seems more
like Malick Smith to me.
Yeah, I don't know.
I just kind of have this like vague like
Abraham Almonte maybe. I don't know.
Yeah, I don't know. But yeah,
Josh Naylor, I mean, if anyone would steal home
on this team, it's obviously,
obviously, Josh Naylor.
I mean, Randy Rosarine has literally
done it in his career. Yeah.
So in a playoff game.
Yeah. So, you know,
he's probably on the list too.
Do you have any Randy?
Any Randy?
I was I was I was thinking of like is there like a funny like Randy Cal thing that I could put on here but I don't know my my brain wasn't wasn't working on that level
Randy and Cal get into a fist fight and then make up two days later with the Mariners chocolate moose moose it looks good by the way I'm telling you man I would unironically do a segment on this show about all the food they got at T-Mobile Park this year yeah I'm just trying to figure out like
like, yeah, so I'm just trying to figure out like how I'm going to.
We're down to our final two, right?
Yeah.
I'm just trying to figure out.
Yeah, Malick Smith did it against the, uh, the Red Sox in May of 2019.
I don't know if it was a straight steel phone on my other video later.
But yeah.
The last Mariner to do it was Julio, who did it and the double steel.
Also against the Red Sox.
So Josh Naylor against the Red Sox stealing home.
There we go.
Obviously.
Yeah.
Off to see if I can find the video.
Against crochet, clearly.
See if I can find the video of Malik Smith stealing home.
So I can see if it was a straight steel or a double steel.
But anyways, my number two bold prediction, some might say this is the spiciest, but I have one at number one that I think, you know, is probably more ludicrous.
I don't know if it's spicier.
But anyway.
Looted.
Yeah, number two, Col Young makes the All-Star team and leads the Mariners and on-base percentage.
Ooh, that's spicier than my Cole Young take.
Well, okay.
Kind of.
I just, I was looking at last year, do you remember who made the All-Star team at second base tie?
No, I don't.
It was Glaber Torres.
Oh, right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then like Brandon Lau also made the team.
So not exactly overfilling with options at second base in the American League.
And keep in mind, fan voting.
I kind of think the Mariners might have a jump in their fan voting,
just like the Tigers did the year before.
And obviously the Blue Jays, they'll have to contend with the Blue Jays and all that.
But I don't know, I feel like if it comes down to a fan vote,
the Mariners fan base, more energized than ever.
We've seen them stuffed the ballot box before.
So I feel like maybe that could be a way in.
But also I think Cole Young is going to be a deserving All-Star.
in this bold prediction.
Would I predict him to be an all-star?
Like when we do our real predictions?
No, I'm probably going to be like, yeah, he's a two and a half one player,
three-win player.
But for a bold prediction, yeah,
Cole Young in a not-so-great second-base class,
All-Star.
All right.
Well, kind of going off of that logic,
Cole Young, top five finisher and F-4 among all second baseman in baseball.
Yeah, it's pretty much the same thing.
Yeah, yeah, kind of.
I mean, because like you look at second-based
in Major League Baseball.
It's Horner.
It's Terang.
It's Cattell.
Those are like the clear top three.
I mean,
Brennan Donovan was a top five finisher last year and he's,
by all accounts,
not going to be a second baseman in 2026,
at least so long as Cole Young is around.
And in this reality that we're talking about here,
Cole Young is very much around and playing second base for the,
for the Seattle Bears.
So like,
could Cole Young have a better year than Rice and Stott,
Xavier Edwards,
Claibor Torres,
Marcus Simeon.
Jay Cronomworth, Daniel Schneeemel like yeah, yeah, absolutely.
So yeah, I think those are two very similar
because if he's top five in war,
he's probably making the all-star team.
If you were top five and more,
you only had to get to three wins
at second base last year.
Could Cole Young get to three wins?
I mean, I feel more like two, two and a half
for Cole this year.
Didn't you get to like 0.9 last year?
maybe B.
It's hard to know because
yeah,
because of the defense and then yeah,
I don't know what the difference was between B or
and that and that's the
that's the thing that we have to say here.
Right.
Like it all comes down to really the defense and like
was what we saw last year and how poorly he
gritted out. Is that actually real?
Because that's not at all what the scouting report was on Cole Young.
Or was he actually limited by the
whatever was.
What was shoulder elbow? Yeah, he was negative.
0.3 last year on fan graphs.
And a big reason for that again was
how poorly he graded out defensively.
So he's going to have to make
pretty significant strides defensively
and hopefully those issues last year
were more so because of injury
than anything. And we can kind of just point to that as like an
outlier rather than who Cole
ultimately is. But yeah, if he's going to get to two and a half
three wins, like he's going to have to be
pretty good defensively.
but I like the call on leading the the team and on base percentage
it's kind of wild
I think it's for a team that has possibility yeah I mean for a team that has
Brendan Donovan and Josh Nailer and J.P. Crawford like Cal Raleigh just
from you know pure like let's not pitch to this guy although not in April
because he's going to suck in April because he didn't get the at bats in spring
training he needed all right there's your ball predictions no that's not number one
number one is Boulder okay on the 20th
4th of July
the Seattle Mariners are going to
acquire for their
playoff World Series run
won Mr. Terrick Scoobel
from the Detroit Tigers
in exchange
for Luis Castillo
yeah
yeah in exchange for Luis Castillo
Johnny Farmello
and Las Montas. There you go.
All that for two months of
Terrick Scouble. The
Mariners are going all in to win the World Series.
In reality, they'll probably be like 58 and 50 and like, I feel like the tigers are going
to go down with that ship no matter what.
I mean, that's fine, but they're idiots, but that's fine.
I mean, they've been idiots the entire time they've had scuba.
So why change now, but that's what makes it a bold prediction.
I'd lose my mind if that happened.
There you go.
Would you agree that's my spiciest, my spiciest bold prediction, tie?
Yeah.
Yeah.
that's pretty spicy. That's a lot
spicier than mine, my final
one here. I think it's pretty spicy though.
I doubt it. And I'm
kind of surprised that you didn't have either of these
guys, particularly one of them
on your bold predictions list here.
Not for nothing. Total accident.
July 24th is a Friday.
So,
Thai might not survive till Monday if they trade for
Tarek Scouble on a Friday.
I'm doing my world
serious celebration that weekend.
Keep in mind, he's only
going to go five innings for you because he's going to take himself out of the game because
obviously he's got to go get paid but that's totally something he did last year which by the way
if he did good for him screw the tigers yeah it helped the mayor so you go king merri's legend
already terrick scoble i kind of feel like leo rivas would have hit a home run against them either
way all right uh all right so my last one here is um dominant canzone and luke raleigh combined for
50 homers. Ah, that was on my list. But I couldn't decide. I was like, do I want to do 50? Do I do 60? Like, how bold do I want to get? And then it's like, I already had seven. Like, that's probably good enough. I had a lot of like stolen base ones initially. I had one where it was like Cal, Naler and Donovan combined for 60 stolen bases.
Yeah. But I mean, I had some, I had some other by himself last year. Yeah. I had, well, yeah, I mean, like they, they technically combined for 49 last year.
but yeah
Canzon and Rayleigh combined in for 50 homers
making up for the lost power in the middle
of the Marin's lineup. Yeah, that was
under consideration as well for me.
So we had very similar list
at the end of the day. I just
decided to stick my chest out and
demand the Terrick Scoobel trade.
If you don't trade for Scoobel, you're not
even trying. After I started the offseason
being the trade for a scubal guy.
Yeah, trust me,
this is probably the last time.
This is the last time I'll see.
you'll hear me be like the Mariners are going to trade for tariff school never going to say those words again so enjoy it today until uh until they do yeah i mean the tigers are 33 and 48 or whatever we can have a different conversation well there you go there's our bold predictions if you have bold predictions leave them in the comments below all right so how might the mariners construct their lineup coming out of the gate to start the season we'll go over that in just a moment but first a reminder this episode of the long time marries podcast

So we are less than a week away from opening day where the Mariners will face Gavin Williams and the Cleveland Guardians.
What do you think that first lineup is going to look like against Gavin Williams, Colby?
All right, quick cut here to clarify that the Guardians actually announced their opening day started this morning.
And it's not Gavin Williams.
It's Tanner Bybee.
But Bybee is a right-hand pitcher as well.
So everything that we're about to talk about still very much applies.
But just wanted to hop on here real quick and clarify, it's not Gavin Williams.
It's Senator Bobby.
So I wanted to clear that up.
All right.
Bye-bye now.
Yeah, so I think we're going to, I think we pretty much know.
It's Donovan's going to lead off.
Cal's going to hit second.
Julio third.
Naylor, fourth, Randy, fifth.
And then it starts to get a little bit interesting.
I think we'll see Canzone hit sixth.
I think we'll see Rayleigh hit seven.
Then I think we're going to get Young hitting eighth.
And then ninth, I think we're going to get Leo Rivas.
I don't think JP is going to be ready to go on opening day.
There's a lot of lefties stacked in there in a row, but that was going to be the reality.
Either way, the Mariners didn't add that right-handed bat that we thought they needed.
And, you know, they have Rob Ruff Snyder off the bench when they, you know, when Tim Herron comes into the game or whoever.
So it's not like the Mariners don't have any punch coming off the bench from the right side.
But, yeah, I think we're going to see all those lefties stacked in in the six through nine spot.
And I mean, technically, Rivas is a switch hitter.
But Donovan is, Donovan's a lefty too.
So you can have seven lefties in a row going up against Gavin Williams.
Eight, I mean.
I've been kind of out of the loop today.
Did we get an update on Rob Ruff Siner?
No, not that I'm saying.
Because that does potentially impact the conversation we're about to have here,
specifically about how they're going to roll out, you know, their lefty lineup.
I think they're going to face Joey Cantillo at some.
some point in that guardian series.
So we'll see it fairly early on.
But obviously, you know,
Ruff Snyder, well, if you guys missed it,
Ruff Snyder last night in the game,
exited, I think it was in the sixth inning.
After he was hit by a pitch on the,
on the elbow, he doesn't wear an elbow guard.
Now,
it's possible that,
you know, his night was coming to an end anyway
at that point.
But they brought in a pinch runner for him.
I was listening back to the radio
broadcast because that's all there was last night
and Ryan Healy said you know kind of
just analyzing body language there
it seemed like
Rough Center wanted to go down to first
and Dan was like hey we're taking you out of the game
like anyway
So that's kind of really the only information we have
right now but that's something to potentially
keep an eye on here so hopefully rough center is okay
and if so the question is at that point
is he the lead off guy
against Joey Cantello or whichever
lefty they first face. Maybe it's Max Fried in the Yankee series.
Yeah, I think he probably is. There's just not that many great options aside from him.
So I think, you know, again, we'll assume that, you know, it's not a day off for Cal or anything
like that when we go through this. But I think it's going to be Ruff Snyder leading off, probably
deaching. I think Cal hits second. I think Cullio hits third. I wouldn't be too surprised.
if Randy hit fourth and Naylor went down to five,
but I'll keep it the same.
I'll say Naylor hits four, Randy hits five.
Sixth, I think is going to be,
I think it'll be Canzone in right field with Refznyder D-Hing.
So seven, you know, this might be where they jump Leo Rivas up,
but I think they really like him in that nine spot
because you can get on base and flip things around.
But I think Donovan hits seven.
I still think he plays mostly against the righties.
I just think he drops down to seven.
Lefties. Yeah, sorry, lefties. Yeah, Cole Young, I think because J.P.'s, you know, probably not going to be ready to go. He's going to have to face lefties early. So not that he can't do it anyways. And I think they'll probably give him opportunity to do that. He'll hit eighth. And then I still think Leo Rivas hits night. So I think the only real difference is Rayleigh's out of the lineup in favor of Ruff Snyder. And Ruff Snyder jumps to lead off and everybody else gets pushed back one spot. So, yeah. So in other words, you think,
Victor Robles is a true fourth outfielder start the year.
I hope so.
I wouldn't be terribly shocked,
but like Canzon hit lefties last year.
He was fine against them.
And Robles didn't hit anybody last year.
And he hasn't been particularly great against lefties for a couple years anyways.
So I think Victor should be a true fourth outfielder.
Do I think that the Mariners might, you know,
try and get him some opportunities early on against lefties
in particular.
Yeah, I think that's a strong possibility.
So I would put Canzone in the lineup against the lefty,
but yeah, Victor, if we're doing what we think the Mariners will do,
then I think Victor is probably hitting eighth against the first lefty that they face.
And, yeah, I don't love it.
But I mean, it could also just potentially line up with a day that they would put
Victor in the lineup anyway.
And it just so happens to be against.
Yeah.
Like Victor's- Or you can't tell you.
Victor's probably getting a start at least one in the first series,
even if there's not a lefty on the mound.
Like we're going to see him against Cleveland just because in general,
the Mariners will try and get, you know, everybody to start early in the year.
Unless you're a catcher, then they don't care about you.
Screw you.
Cow's catching everything.
So, but even we'll probably even see Kisner or Garber,
who had a couple of hits yesterday.
We'll probably see him on the Sunday game.
or we'll probably see them, you know.
Yeah, probably the Sunday game.
Because if Ruff Snyder is D-Hing,
I mean, I guess you could put Ruff Snyder in right,
but then Victor Robles is on the bench.
If you want to free up the D.H spot for Cal against the lefty or Carver, whatever,
then yeah, Ruff Snyder has to play the field,
and then there's no room for Victor unless you're benching Julio or Randy,
which you're probably not doing against the lefty.
So, yeah, it'll be interesting to see how it all goes,
but I would have Canzone hit against Lefties early.
I want to see if you can do it or if that's something I have to go address at the deadline.
I'm pretty confident Rayleigh not going to hit Lefties.
I'm not confident that Canzone won't hit Lefties.
And so I'd like to see them.
Yeah. As I'm Rayleigh actually, like, funny enough,
hasn't he been like pretty solid against Lefties in spring so far?
So in spring?
Yeah, I think he's actually been okay.
But, you know, we have 400 some odd played appearances of data that says he can't do it.
So.
Yeah.
Yeah, we'll see.
But yeah, if the Mariners want to treat that right field as a troop platoon,
then it's probably Ref Snyder, Cal, Julio, Nailer, Randy.
Again, those two might flip.
And then it's probably hitting sixth then is probably Donovan.
Seventh, I would guess, would be Robles.
Eight would be young and then nine would be Revos.
Well, that is going to do up for our show.
